It feels like I’ve loved him forever. He’s ingrained in my DNA. Torn, I’ve watched him slip away in torturous bits and pieces. Even in our deepest grief. He’s my true love. My only love. But I’ve lost him. ~~~~~ I think I’ve loved her since the moment I laid eyes on her. That will never change. But I’m haunted by the demons of my past. Unworthy of her love. And yet, she loved me anyway. We spoke those sacred vows . . . til death do us part. And we’re dying. Someone’s murdering us. Me.
***All books in the Jack 'Em Up series are standalones with HEA but if you'd like to enjoy them in order... Burnout (Prequel - Blake & Delilah: The Beginning) Crank (Book I - Blake & Delilah) Torque (Book II - Jesse & Rachel) Hitched (A Jack 'Em Up Wedding - Jesse & Rachel) Throttle (Book III - Trace & Tori) Rev (Book IV - Micah & Jewel)

"Well let's start with we're not getting a god damned divorce"
Okay that was angst-y. The whole time i was reading it, my heart was being squeeZed..
But there's too many loose ends to this story, the demons that he was fighting were resolved to easily and conviently. What about her parents? Or what about his brother and father? Is it always going to be like that?
I admit to liking this story because of the angst but other than that? Nah, this had so much potential and it was wasted on them pushing and pulling.
Blake and Delilah have been married now for ten years. The couple that was so in love, is now on the brink of divorce. Blake can't understand why Delilah doesn't want to try anymore. He still loves her as much as he ever did. And he's working hard to give her the life he thinks she deserves. Delilah just can't take it anymore. With the tragedies they have had, you would think it would have brought them closer, but it has only driven them farther apart. She is home alone now more than ever. Blake is more married to his autoshop than he is to her. She still loves him as much as she ever did, but the neglect has just worn her down. When Blake sees that she is serious about divorce, will he stop fighting all of his demons from the past and truly step up to be the man she knows he can be? Can Delilah trust that Blake will change and not take her for granted anymore. Can she trust her heart once again?
I could not put this book down. It is full of emotional upheaval and intense dialog between two heartbroken people who love each other but don't know if they're still right together. This is a must read series! I think this is the best Shauna Allen to date!
AAAHHHHH!!! I absolutely love Blake and Princess Delilah!!! I fell in love with them in Burnout and thought I couldn't love a couple any more, but Shauna proved me wrong!!! Thanks so much for another great story Shauna Allen!!! You never cease to amaze me at your writing ability!
Blake and Delilah got married at a young age and like all of us, have had their fair share of struggles to overcome in a marriage. I love how Blake never, ever gives up on Delilah and their marriage though. Blake has a lot of self realization to do in this book and he does not let us down. I loved how all his struggles were so real life that any of us could be going through them as well!! I could totally connect to both Blake and Delilah in this book and the struggles that they went through. If only all marriages were this determined and strong in our society today, there would be a lot less divorce!!
This book has a HEA for Blake and Delilah and I am sooooooo glad that it does. I absolutely love this couple and was always hoping the best for them. I am curious to see what becomes of the rest of the gang though!! Can not wait for the next books in the series. Thanks Shauna Allen for another great read, as always!!!!
I think this book is Shauna Allen's best yet! Such a hard book to put down and I enjoyed every minute of it and hated to see it end. Such an emotional story between two heart broken people that should be together. Make sure you have the tissues handy because you will need them. Blake and Delilah have been married for 10 years when Delilah is tired of being taken for granted and files for divorce. They seem like the perfect couple so much in love. Blake refuses to sign the papers and plans to win back Delilah. Blake needs to get over his past and stop thinking he is like his father and has to prove something. Can he do that and win Delilah back? Read the book today. You will not be sorry. I was sorry the story came to an end. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
I first read the prequel Burnout and then read Crank. Crank picks up ten years after the delicious high school love story of Blake and Delilah Travers. At the point we join this story, their marriage is in grave jeopardy and Delilah feels like she needs to end their marriage for self preservation. Blake on the other hand, is clueless and shocked by the fact his "princess" refers to him as a ghost. Really?
Fact of the matter is, they truly love each other: they just don't know how to communicate what they need to each other. So will true win out?
These characters are so real and they are surrounded by a whole compliment of characters who love and support them as they journey through their troubles. Their problems are realistic as a lot of marriages encounter misunderstandings and lack of communication after a period of years, be it the proverbial seven year itch or ten.
I felt compassion for both Blake and Delilah and was hoping they would reconcile their differences. The story is told in alternating chapters; the point of view shifting from Blake to Delilah. Both characters grew and developed as the story progressed.
The story sucked me in quickly and I read it in a couple of sittings. A little bit angsty, a whole lot of heartache, and a very enjoyable love story. All good things are worth working for.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Crank is the follow up book to the novella Burnout and is the continuation of Blake and Delilah's story 10 years after they married just out of high school. I don't think you have to read Burnout before reading Crank if you aren't a fan of novellas, but it definitely couldn't hurt. It was worth it. These two have been through a lot. They've suffered some great losses and Blake's demons as well as Delilah's loneliness seem to be ripping them apart. Blake wants to provide a life for Delilah, similar to what she had growing up, so he spends a lot of time at his shop Jack 'Em Up. He wants to make a name for his shop, but for a lot of the wrong reasons. What he doesn't realize is the life Delilah had growing up was incredibly lonely and she would rather not have anything if it meant they could be together more. This is definitely a tear jerker, but it was so worth it. Highly recommended book, highly recommended author; you can't go wrong. Can't wait for Jesse, Trace and Micah's books!
We first met Blake and Delilah as love-struck teenagers in Burnout and now, we're catching up with them after a decade of marriage in Crank.
Unfortunately, not much has changed; Delilah's cold and emotionally distant parents never accepted their relationship and Blake is still haunted by his father's shadow. After suffering three miscarriages and years of neglect due to Blake pouring all of his energy into building up his business, Delilah feels the only option she has left is to file for divorce. Neither of them truly want to separate but with emotional distance and deep hurt between them, is love enough to salvage what's left of their union?
Anyone who's lost a child is going to be impacted by their story and I believe it's probably one of Shauna's best to date. We're right with Blake and Delilah as they go through the storms of life... so keep a tissue box handy while you're reading!
I so am in love with Blake. Such a beautiful broken boy in a mans body. Del was fantastic but damn her parents, I wanted to put them out with the trash. I'm very happy I got book 0 for free followed by the rest of their story. Oh and Trace, Jesse and Micha...loved them too!
We met Blake and Delilah in Burnout now we get to see the rest of their journey. Delilah and Blake are going through a big rough patch in their marriage. Blake has to find a way to win his wife back. When. all seems lost will the love these two have be enough? I really enjoyed this one. I had to have the tissues ready because I was tearing up in parts of this book. It shows you the journey of two broken souls that find the power of love.
Wow I was gifted a copy of this book for review and it is so great. I love these characters and how they are portrayed. The author does not sugar coat the struggles that happen behind the doors of marriage. It's not always rainbows and kittens. They are struggling with multiple losses as well as drifting apart. This is a terrific read and I definitely recommend it.
Sometimes in marriages people become complacent, and start to take for granted the emotional relationship they have with their spouse without even realizing their doing it. They get so wrapped up in their daily lives, and pouring themselves into their work, to ensure that their doing all they can to provide for their families, that they tend to forget about taking care of their spouses emotional needs and well being. When this happens the relationship starts to suffer due to the disconnect, and most times people end up losing sight of what brought them together in the first place, and ultimately divorce because they think there is nothing left to salvage. For Blake and Delilah this is becoming their reality, and while Blake is ready to fight for what they have, Delilah is ready to move on because she thinks no amount of effort can fix what has already been damaged.
Blake has been chasing his demons for years, and has never really came to terms with them, so they are always there in the back of his mind lingering. They have made him become a very driven person, who constantly feels like no matter how much he tries he will never be good enough for his wife or anyone else in his life. They have become so ingrained in him that he doesn't see them or realize that they are ultimately what is driving his wife away...that is until he's handed divorce papers and she is out the door. Now he must find a way to conquer these demons and prove to her that he can let his past go and be the man she fell in love with all those years ago... or he might just lose her for good.
Delilah is tired of being alone, and wants nothing more than to have the loving and attentive man she married back, but somewhere along the way she lost him. Old habits of from his past have dictated the way he lives his life now, and caused him to pull away from her emotionally, which has reeked havoc on their marriage. There is such a disconnect between them that she doesn't think it can be repaired, so she decides it's time for her to move on without him. The thought of letting him go breaks her heart, but she can't live with the shell of a man he has turned into any longer. He isn't so easily convinced that she wants to leave though, and he wants to work on things and try to rediscover what they have lost, but she is left wondering if that is even possible because those ever present demons are still there haunting him, and pulling him in the other direction...
Delilah and Blake's story pulled me almost immediately and captivated my attention in a way that hasn't been done in a long time. Their story spoke volumes to me, each and every word laced with intensity, passion, and feeling, it grabbed me by the heart and had me hanging onto their every word. I knew after reading the book description that this would be a powerful story, but I was truly surprised at how much it effected me, it was truly a awakening and profound read. Ms. Allen is truly a gifted storyteller and I insist that you give this book a chance, it is sure to awaken your emotions and leave you dying for the opportunity to read more of her work. Definitely one of the best books I have read this year!!
This has got to be the best book Shauna has ever wrote, good lord the twist and turns this poor family has to deal with before they can even be a true family will blow your mind. Shauna is a very talent writer as she shows us in Crank, she takes you through a amazing journey that will leave you with your mouth open saying OH NO please no. just how much more can this family stand before they fall apart.
Blake has demons he has been chasing for years, he has never felt like he was good enough. He doesn’t know what to do to get where he needs to be or wants to be. Delilah is struggling to keep their marriage together with a man who is never home. She feels like she has no choice, she has made up her mind which leaves Blake hanging on to a bottle.
This story takes you through their day to day life, their struggles to make a life. Blake’s struggles to prove everyone wrong about him and give Delilah all she deserves that is as he sees it. Delilah could care less about money all she wants is her fun loving husband back. She needs them back to where they use to be but does not see any way back. She throws her hands up and the story beginning.
The author kicks this book off with a bam which leaves you thinking OMG as you see the pictures in your head and just want to cover your eyes. You think well he really did it this time. How in the world can anything good come out of this mess? This is when they author takes you on a whirlwind that keeps you turning the pages. You are so into this book you will read it at one setting, there is no way you can put this one down. You are going to want to cry and laugh but not at the same time through this heart-breaker. I will promise you this ending is well worth waiting. What an ending. Shauna has always been one of my favorite author’s from the first time I pick up one of her books. As a writer she gets to your heart, tearing it out and handing it back to you and you say thank you very much, when is the next book coming out….
Shauna you have out done yourself with the best read so far. I do have a few more of hers to read but I just do not think she can top this one. I am so looking forward to the rest of this series to find out what she has planned for the rest of her wonderful characters. You are so going to love this book with all it’s amazing characters. Delilah and Blake’s story is going to break your heart, it is a story you do not want to miss.
I received a copy of Crank to give my honest opinion and a review and first of all let me say Shauna Allen is one of my favorite author's for more reasons than one.
Crank follows Burnout in Shauna's Jack 'Em Up series. In Crank we find that Blake & Delilah have been married ten years & now faced with a new set of issues some stemming from from old ones.
Blake has made a success out of his business but still some of his old demons keep him from really enjoying his new life & marriage. Delilah loves her profession as a physical & message therapist, another disappointment for her parents that she didn't follow their footsteps into law like her sister Danielle did.
Both Delilah & Blake still have major issues with their parents, Delilah because she married beneath her, Blake with his alcoholic Dad.
Can the Travers save their marriage after facing heartbreaking loses they have suffered but can't seem to work through together? When they can connect and show their love for one another it's with pure passion coming from their hearts & souls but when Blake can't be there for Delilah the way she needs him to be she starts divorce proceedings, can Blake right the wrongs to stop this from happening?
Shauna Allen won't disappoint with Crank plus we get to catch up with Blake & Delilah's good friends & what's been happening in their lives, there might be some surprises with them too.
I have to add this, I won a contest that Shauna had last year for a chance to have a character named after them in her Jack 'Em Up series so if you missed the "Joyner" family in Burnout look for my name "Leta" & my beloved sadly missed son "Dwayne's" name.
At the end of Burnout Blake and Delilah were to be married.
Every marriage has its ups and downs.
Blake has his own auto shop, Jack' Em Up. Delilah is a massage therapist. Unfortunately, that is where the ups end and the downward spiral begins.
After three miscarriages the grief of the loss of their children has overtaken the couple. Blake kept busy at the shop and tried numbing himself with alcohol.
The one day Delilah decides to surprise her husband at the shop, she is the one who gets a surprise of her own. She finds Blake with another woman in a questionable setting.
Everyone reaches a point where they cannot handle anymore. For Delilah, that was her breaking point and she filed for divorce.
Upon being served, he was shocked. Reality slapped him in the face and he became determined to not only turn things around but, for them to find their way back to each other again.
They both still love each other but, has loss changed them so much that they lose each other?
I enjoyed this book! The story was well developed, heartbreakingly realistic and I loved the characters!
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Crank is the follow up book to Burnout and finishes the story of Blake and Delilah. I would recommend reading Burnout before Crank. I loved this book. The story picks up ten years after Delilah and Blake graduate from high school. They have been through a lot and old demons seem to be ripping them apart. They have suffered great losses and Delilah is upset that she is always alone. Blake has opened his own business and is obsessed with making the business a success and making a name for himself. But is Blake focusing on the wrong thing?
Blake is still at odds with his father, he still let's the man get to him. Delilah's parents still think she made a mistake marrying Blake and call her marriage a rebellion stage, they still do not really have time for her and do not really care about her.
This one is a tearjerker so grab some tissues. You are able to connect on a much deeper level with Delilah and Blake which makes this story so good.
Blake and Delilah have been married for 10 years, through thick and thin, through hardship and good times, and through extended family disfunction. The one constant has always been their love. But Blake has his demons from his past and he thinks throwing himself into work is the answer to all of his problems. The only thing is, Delilah is left alone more and more and feels like love may not be enough to help Blake get over his issues and realize that what they have is enough. Will they work through things and have a life, or will their love end through divorce?
This book touched me on a personal level. Shauna has been able to describe these lives as if they have really lived them, not as characters in a book. I highly recommend it to everyone. There is a prequel, and it should be read first, but Shauna has written this so that you can catch up quickly if you haven't read the prequel first.
I met Blake and Delilah. Fast forward 10 years and they are married and struggling to make their marriage work. Blake has a hard time getting over his past and Delilah has had enough of taking second place. Blake sees this and vows to do everything he can to win her back. Can he get over his fears of never being enough for Delilah?
This book was an emotional ride of two people trying to save their marriage. Ms. Allen did a great job of writing the story so realistically. It shows that sometimes true love is not enough to make a marriage work. There were so many realistic problems that everyday people find in their marriage. This story will have you laughing and crying along with the characters.
I love Shauna Allen's book and she does not disappoint with this story. You will be rooting for a HEA for Blake and Delilah. This is a great start to a new series.
I was given a gift copy in exchange for an honest review.
This story was Allen's first for me, regardless of backstory I think it could stand alone. The characters were interesting and the book is clearly set up for the series read so I may check them out. I was sent an ARC so I will preface my thoughts on that basis. Possible Spoiler alert- I liked the book but at one point I got tired of the back and forth of I love you- It isn't enough... It was a little too much. I even put it down for a bit. That said, I stuck with the story and the last third really showed some depth. If you are into trite, patterned romances- this is not for you. The couple's struggle is very real and it is beautiful to see the eventual happy ending. I will likely read Ms Allen again.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Blake and Delilah are dealt all the trials and tribulations life can throw at you and managed to walk through to the other side stronger then ever. You will feel as if you are going through this journey of love, pain and discovery with Delilah and Blake. With their marriage on the rocks Blake tries to mend their crumbling love while Delilah feels it's time to walk away. After a devastating loss it seems that the love they had has endured more than they can handle. As a last bid to heal Blake lays his soul down. Delilah gathers it close to her heart. The future is always a risk but together they manage to weather the storm.
In Crank we get to see how a grown up Deliliah and Blake are trying to adapt with changes that are happening all around them. Blake's self-worth issues still plague him and Deliliah has done everything in her power to make him see himself through her eyes.
This is easily one of the best novels I've read so far this year. The love and angst are so realistic that you can't help but root for the couple.
Blake Travers was a tortured bad boy who wanted more than just his painful past. So when Delilah wanted him he thought he had been handed the world. Now 10 years into their marriage and 4 miscarriages it seemed like they could never be as connected as they once were. Still in love with Delilah as ever, Blake is determined to not let the love of his life go.
Crank is a great book I loved it! Blake and Delilah remind me a lot of me and my husband. It is a great book about real life situations that will have you crying and cheering. I can't wait to read more from the Jack em up series! I highly recommend this series and reading Burnout the prequel to Crank!
The Jack 'Em Up series by the very talented Shauna Allen is going to be fantastic! This book is well written and the characters are detailed and have great interactions. Two people, on an emotional roller coaster, try to find true happiness as they dodge obstacles in their path. This is a great read and I am looking forward to more in this series.
Wow. Just wow. What a gripping follow up to Blake and Delilah 10 years later. They are two broken people trying desperately to stay together. Such a powerful gripping story. I would highly recommend it. And be sure to have your tissues handy!
Shauna Allen does it again. A Wonderful story about young love that has trouble as it gets old. Author Shauna has a way of bringing you into the story and keeping you there, as well as making you want more. I highly recommend not only this book, but others by Shauna as well. Enjoy!!

In Crank (Jack 'Em Up #1) by Shauna Allen, Delilah and Blake are meant to be together...but lately for Deliah it just doesn't feel like it used to anymore. She loves him with everything she has, but lately she feels neglected and forgotten as Blake works hard to make a success of his business, and in his mind, his business being successful will mean he can give Delilah everything she deserves. But all Delilah wants is Blake. A breaking point is reached for Delilah, along with her breaking heart, and she files for a divorce from Blake.
Blake is brought crashing to the reality of his marriage breaking up, and the feeling that Delilah has given up on them. He just knows he doesn't understand, and he doesn't want a divorce. Both of them have issues though and past events that haunt them. Blake is still struggling with his past and who he is (or isn't!). As he fights to save their marriage, can he finally leave the past where it belongs and focus on a future with Delilah? Or is it too late to heal broken hearts?
Shauna writes a story filled with emotion in Crank. Crank is easy to fall into and stay in. Blake and Delilah are both strong main characters, and I loved how Shauna managed to write Crank in alternating dual first person POV's so smoothly. This really made it easy to get into the characters heads and their feelings. Delilah and Blake have been together since they were quite young, and it was easy to hope for them and their relationship despite the struggles they are facing in Crank. Their relationship issues are realistic, and Shauna does a great job of portraying these in a believable manner. It is not only relationship issues between Blake and Delilah that are part of Crank, but Shauna weaves in other issues they have, making these characters dimensional, and leaving me feeling for them both. The deep connection Delilah and Blake have is palpable, even through their troubles.
I liked the mix of secondary characters who are a great supporting cast, and I can't wait to see more of them!
Feelings pour off the pages in this fast paced romance, and I like how Shauna brought Blake and Delilah to life. I'd recommend Crank to any romance reader!
Blake and Delilah have been married for ten years. Blake spends more and more time working at his garage thinking he's doing his best to provide for Delilah, but she doesn't see it that way. She recognizes that he's trying to prove that he's better than his father, while still not admitting that he's good enough for her. This, coupled with their three miscarriages, strained their once happy marriage.
All Delilah wanted was her husband. You can't help but feel for her because she's in a marriage yet she feels alone. She doesn't want all the things that Blake wants to provide her, she only wants him and he's not there. Not only does she have to deal with her failing marriage, but she also has to deal with her unsupportive parents, who would be thrilled if she divorced Blake.
Blake had a rough life and he wants to prove that he can provide for Delilah in a way his father never provided for his family. By spending all his time building up the garage, he doesn't realize that he's actually neglecting his marriage. When Delilah asks for a divorce it throws him for a loop and he tries to figure out how he can be both the man and the husband he wants to be.
I liked that Blake was determined to fix his marriage, even when Delilah thought there was no hope for them. At times though, I wished Delilah would have come out and told Blake the things that were bothering her. Sometimes it felt like he had to guess what her issues were. And while I liked that Delilah finally told her mother off, I had to wonder why it took her so long. Her parents had been badmouthing Blake for ten years and she just finally stood up for him? I would think that if she loved him, she would have stood up for him long before then.
Overall I enjoyed Crank and would recommend reading it. I'm looking forward to checking out the other books in the series.
**A free copy was provided in exchange for an honest review**
Ok...I have to tell you, if you read the prequel to this book (Burnout) before you read this book, it might be really hard for you to read the beginning of Crank. After reading the first chapter, I set the book down and didn't look at it for a week, because my heart hurt so much. But, if you can take a deep breath, and push past the emotional torture that is the beginning of Crank, I promise, reading the rest of their story is SO worth it!
Delilah and Blake have been married for ten years, but their marriage is falling apart. They knew about each others emotional baggage when they got married, but they were both very young, and it would seem they have different ideas about what 'taking care of your spouse' means. Their friends try to knock some sense into both of them, but they have their own problems as well. And by the way, their friends are great secondary characters, but some of the other secondary characters...if you're anything like me, you will HATE them! (The author does a fantastic job of raising my blood pressure whenever they're around.) :)
Yes, Delilah and Blake made me SO mad sometimes. But watching them fall in love all over again...it was beautiful, and heartwrenching, it made me laugh, and cry...it hurts so much, but it also heals.
Seriously, there are some very serious, very hard things that these two go through in their story. If you aren't ready to go on the emotional rollercoaster that is Crank, I suggest you wait to read it. But if you are ready, then prepare to FEEL everything (and keep a Kleenex box close by).
