****FULL REVIEW**** *This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of AudiobookBlast dot com, at my request.
Episode 1: Ainsley is back in her home town after years of being gone. Ainsley is determined to finish cleaning out her parents home, get it on the market, without a large amount of social interaction and get back to her life in New York before the next full moon. The wolves need an Alpha though. Her father was the pack Alpha and being the Alpha's daughter, her lineage is what makes the next Alpha emerge, by picking him to be her mate. Many would do anything to be Alpha. But there is one she knew when she was young that even though drawn to her, cares what happens to her. But Ainsley doesn't think he's her type.
Addison has a young feel to her voice. She sounds as she's talking to me full of enthusiasm and emotion, and through the strong persona of Ainsley. She does do some vocal differentiation for characters as we meet new ones.
Ainsley's attractions rise while she's home. She has a terrible memory of the first time she turned and the lose of her boyfriend at the time has haunted her since. But she starts to wonder what it would be like to be with a man who's another wolf and she wouldn't have to worry about losing her control and harming him. But she's determined this is not her.
The story feels fast from the start. I feel like the story is a tad rushed. It makes me anxious. Addison doesn't seem to be reading with a quick pace, but maybe it's the anxiety in her voice or Ainsley's anxiety of being home coming through. It could be the swift movement of the story too.
We get the story through the eyes of Ainsley and Eric. Eric is a handsome wolf that went to school with Ainsley, and was close to her in elementary school. But things changed and the Alpha, Ainsley's father, made it known that Ainsley was off limits to all. Eric now finds himself attracted to Ainsley and his wolf rising for Ainsley's attentions. Eric knows he's not the type of man Ainsley wants, but he's still drawn to her. Eric's concerned for Ainsley's safety and jealous of others with her.
In this first episode I found that Ainsley sounds like an ungrateful snob and only sees the man candy outside of the men around her. I know she's said she's a type A personality, but I hope she warms up some and grows as a character. I don't even feel much emotion from her for her parents deaths. She hasn't been home in years, so has she grown cold or does she have a barrier up inside to protect from the hurt, like when Brian died?
At the end of this first episode I am left thinking of the tv show Bitten. A strong female who wants NOTHING to do with being a wolf and to love a human. She'll fight to make it so. But! Ainsley is much more naive in the ways of wolves and pack than Elena is at this point. Ainsley is blind in the wolf ways.
Episode 2: Someone has broken into Ainsley's home. And then her fathers study at the College. Who is it and what do they want? Ainsley tries to get things tied up with her parents estate so she can leave sooner than later as the male wolves are reacting to her presence, and she doesn't want anything to do with Alpha.
The episode doesn't feel as rushed to me. I think Ainsley's anxiety of being home and wanting to leave was coming through Addison's voice with precision. Addison feels relaxed here, but still has a strong personality for Ainsley.
Ainsley is growing on me. She's strong in her determination and doesn't want to break from what she wants. I'm starting to think this is the Alpha material in her. She is feeling the draw of the handsome men around her, and she's noting it to herself now too. I think it has to do with the need for an Alpha in the pack and her lineage pushing to fill that gap, by her finding a strong mate. Though, at the end of this episode, I felt as if Ainsley is making a decision that is out of her normal ways and thinking. I don't know if it's all the hormones rushing around with the need for Alpha that's drawing her to this, she has mentioned that she's acting differently and her wolf is closer to the surface here so maybe it's the draw.
Oh Eric! Good grief. There is an attraction between Eric and Ainsley that Ainsley is fighting hard against. Though, her mind starts to drift to thinking about him and the vision of him naked in her home. Ainsley also starts to distance herself from the perfect relationship with Julian. Julian is human and Ainsley fears a dream she had, awaking the thought of what could happen to Julian.
Ainsley starts to see the importance of an Alpha in this area when Eric tells her of the property the pack owns and what would happen if other wolf packs find they are weak without an Alpha to protect them. All here could be lost.
We start to see the world open up more here. Grace, a dear friend of Ainsley's from school, arrives to take the report and check out the house after a break-in. She also brings a new element to the world, contacting the deceased. And in the end there is a hint of magic.
I think the decision Ainsley is jumping to at the end of this episode will be one she's going to struggle with. I'm curious if she does with the change or with her choice with what she'll do to who's in front of her (if she gets that far). It feels out of character for her so quickly. I know the wolf is becoming ever more present in her and that's mentioned, but this feels like a jump for her. Maybe if there was more build up to it, it would fit but these episodes are short and quick moving.
Each episode does end on a cliffhanger moment, but it's good to know that complete 6 series of episodes are ready to dive into.
Very sensual story. Romance and sexual. It seems Ainsley's hormones are on overdrive. This story is definitely for adult reading/listening. There are descriptive sex scenes present. The story starts off early with the sensual moment, so if you are listening at work put head phones in.
Narration - Addison Spear - Pretty good. She reads a little fast at times, but a lot of listeners prefer that. She does have a range of secondary character voices that are nicely done and stay pretty close to her natural narrator voice with slight variations in pitch. Some of the tertiary characters get a little more over dramatized as she stretches to differentiate them from the other characters, but not too bad.
The story centers around Ainsley, a young professional New Yorker who comes back to her home town after a tragic accident claims the lives of both her parents. Ainsley is a shifter but she's turned her back on that side of her life after her wolf committed an unspeakable act of violence following her first shift as a young girl. Now she's back in town and her only goal is to get her parents house in order, get it on the market and get herself back to New York and the life she's created away from the shifter community.
Problem is...she's the only child of the pack Alpha and now that he's dead, the pack expects her to choose a mate who will become the next Alpha and if she doesn't, the pack will be broken up and lose all of it's territory.
Ainsley has been gone for so long, she doesn't know which people are even shifters, how they operate, who to trust, why all the men go crazy whenever she's around or why someone keeps breaking in and digging through her father's things...she just wants to get back to her life. But there's a lot to figure out before she can head back to New York and the full moon is coming.
Is she really going to go back to New York? Me thinks she dost protest too much! But so far, I'm on board with this series. This does end with a cliffy and now I'm really interested in knowing what comes next, who's behind all the mischief and what's in that mysterious locked cabinet!

After her parents die in an accident, Ainsley returns to her childhood home of Tarker’s Hallow, a small college town outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to close her parents’ home and take care of their affairs. She starts to experience strange feelings and vivid dreams. She is now the Alpha of the Tarker’s Hallow Wolves, a position she does not want. This is a journey of self-discovery, love, and destiny. I liked this book as the author took a different approach to the traditional werewolf story. She did an excellent job developing her characters, and exploring the cognitive dissonance Ainsley has experienced since coming home. Ainsley’s childhood friends are still in Tarker’s Hollow, and I like how the author explores those relationships. I am especially intrigued by the relationship between Ainsley and her wolf, which has been triggered since Ainsley’s arrival home. Great Book and I highly recommend it.
I received this story in exchange for an honest review. May contain mild spoilers.
Tasha Black does a wonderful job of creating a new and unique world in something that is continually visited. Ainsley is a beautiful and independent woman who is looking to pave her own way in life and choose her own destiny. When her parents are tragically killed in a car accident she returns to Tarker's Hollow and her childhood home. From there the story of her destiny begins to unfold.
Of course being the strong woman she is she refuses to fold to everyone's words of how she needs to return home.
While she's back in town she runs into a number of old acquaintances and friends including her childhood BFF turned hunky construction worker Erik. She learns from a friend of her father's that he wished her to mate with Erik.
She also comes across a new resident in Tarker's Hollow named Julian Magie. She's immediately drawn to him for his good looks and love of Russian literature. But all is not what it seems with the enigmatic Mr. Magie.
Ms. Black's world instantly draws you in. I loved how there wasn't a huge build up to the story and how she had to go back home. She was instantly there and the story begins with an action filled dream. One of my favorite parts of the story is how Ainsley is constantly attracting good looking men. When her wolf mojo kicks in, no one stands a chance. She's quite the hot commodity.
I have decided that I'm Team Erik all the way. He seems so sweet and genuine. I think he would make a good balance for Ainsley.
I'm not sure why but I immediately didn't trust Julian. Something about him just didn't sit right with me. The end of Episode 2 leads me to believe that my judgement was correct. The only way I'll know for sure is to continue to Episode 3. I fully intend to do just that and believe you will too when you read the story.
Let me start by saying that if you choose to do audio, which I did, be ready for steamy sex scenes. About one per episode too. It wouldn't have been a big deal if I didn't have my five year old in the car with me. Needless to say, I turned it down during those parts and made sure he was otherwise occupied. Thank you, Angry Birds.
That said, I love serials. They are quick no need to think reads. Can't find a good show on tv? Listen to a serial audiobook. That's my way of thinking.
Curse of the Alpha was bought a while back and upgraded to audio for me. I found myself enjoying this book. Aside from the possible awkward moment of the sex scenes (thank god for an oblivious kid), I was pulled into the story.
I love werewolves. I probably love them more than vampires today. What I love about werewolves is the different take you can do with pack dynamics or even shifting. One book will have the shifting be painful whereas the other has it a fluid action. One book has a solid pack heirarchy whereas the other will have a hiccup in who is Alpha.
Right off the bat, Ainsling tells us she is a wolf. This isn't a person who turned into a werewolf and is going through that kind of trauma. This is a person who was born a wolf, but chooses to not change because of a different traumatic event. A traumatic event that is one of the central mysteries in the serial.
Each episode ends with a cliffhanger which only forced me to grab the second audio quickly. I'm not fanning where I want to shove it down my bestie's throat, but I am fanning to the point that I bought the second and gobbled it up right after the first. This is an erotic paranormal serial that could hurt the pocket if not for the gracious act of it being bundled.
I received this book free from the author. I am not sorry that I chose this book to read. Tinsley is into real estate in the big city. She returns to the small town she grew up in to finish her dad's affairs and pack up her childhood home. She notices while in town she is highly sexually aroused and she begins to have old dreams again. The whole town needs Ainsley to make an important decision and mate. She has a whole town to choose from. After Ainsley's dad passed it is her job to mate with another wolf so that man can become the alpha. The alpha protects the pack and handles all business. One evening she meets a human, named Julian. She has good conversation with him and there is a sexual attraction. After sneaking out of bed she heads home to find the door to the house open. The books that her dad leaves behind are worth a fortune, along with his office at the college. However, Ainsley can't find anything missing. Justin pays a visit to the house where they drink a bottle of wine. Ainsley is awoken to find Justin gone but she can feel his presence in the house. As she looks for Justin she can feel his presence in her father's library. She sees the azure blue of his eyes illuminating and crackling like lighting. Justin realizes he is no longer alone and the second episode ends! I can't wait to continue on this series.
CURSE OF THE ALPHA, EPISODE 1&2 are the first two episodes in the first book in the Tarker’s Hollow series. They do need to be read in the order of release.
The story is fast-paced, erotic, full of mystery, and filled with plenty of wolves. I couldn’t put it down and kept sneaking away to read another page or two (or chapter or two). It is written in old-fashioned serial style, and the cliffs are perfectly placed. I was thankful that episode 2 was an immediate continuation, but now I need episode 3&4!
I didn’t like Ainsley in the first episode. She’s with the wrong guy!!! I wanted to scream at her. By the time I got to the cliff hanger of the second one, I found out that I had guessed his secret correctly, but now what? I’m repeating myself, but I need the next book!
Narration: The narration is easy to listen, but it is not suitable for work. Don’t tell anyone, but I was listening during lunch break while nobody else was around – shhhh! I like that she was able to give so many voices to the characters.
Note: while I was given this book as a gifted audiobook copy, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
Title: CURSE OF THE ALPHA, EPISODE 1&2 Series: Tarker’s Hollow #1 Category /Genre: Paranormal Romance Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content Listenability: OK or NSFW Received from: Steaming online
I read this book to take my mind off writing (crazy but it works). I was immediately drawn to the heroine Ainsley. I love her know it all attitude, and the knowledge that she knows nothing at all. She herself finds out more and more about herself and family as she works through her family’s history. I love the interactions with the town, and her torment of wanting to leave, but realization that she has bond to the town. I love it when I fall in love with the hero, and I fell hard for Erik. I really enjoyed this book, and was looking forward to seeing how it played out. Then boom I was hit with three surprises at once. The first, I kind of figured out, (no spoiler, but who was breaking in her house and father's office). The second she was willing to shift and fight, the third and most important... the book ended with a cliff hanger and picked back up with book 3 & 4. I was livid, how could the author do that to me? I was hooked, I needed more, I needed to know what happened. I thought about it and laughed. She's a genius, I quickly downloaded on my Kindle book 3 & 4. Get this book I promise you'll be hooked too. I was impressed by the book's storyline, characters and the way it ended I befriended the author.
Let me start by saying, I really enjoyed these stories. Despite that, I had a hard time liking the main character, Ainsley. She very much frustrated me, and I wanted to bang my head on the table screaming "WHY???" In my opinion, that is a good indicator of how well this is written. When an author gets you so involved in a story that you get emotionally connected enough to experience happiness, sadness, frustration, etc. with the characters, he or she is really good at what they do. Other than the main character, I liked most all of the characters. I really just want Ainsley to get her crap together and think of someone besides herself for once! I can't wait to read the rest of the series to see what happens and to see how she learns and grows. This set is definitely worth the purchase!
This set is also available a boxed set Curse of the Alpha: The Complete Bundle (Episodes 1-6): A Tarker's Hollow BBW Shifter Romance. That is a FANTASTIC price for all three sets!!
I received a copy of Curse of the Alpha: Episodes 1 & 2 in exchange for an honest review.
Ainsley Conner was a werewolf. Her father was the Alpha. She had refused to accept her wolf. She wanted no part of the pack. She had killed the boy that she was making out with when her wolf first decided to surface. Now she is faced with her parents death and having to settle her parents estate. The pack needs and wants her to find a mate. They need an alpha and the only way they can have an alpha is her taking a mate.
I loved Eric in this book. Eric Jensen was this amazing werewolf and the chose her father wanted to see her with. She refused to let Eric know that he was her father's chose. Eric wanted what was best for Ainsley even if that was her taking another wolf though it will kill him. His feelings run deep for her though he was not aware how deep they ran. I am curious about Cressida and wonder how much if any trouble she is going to cause.
Hated Julian Magie. Ainsley finds him very attractive. Problem with Julian is he is human. What is he up to?
Ainsley has someone snooping around her father's things. Huge mystery going on. The book will keep you on edge.
Cursed by the Alpha: Episode 1 & 2 is the first book I have read by Tasha Black. I found this book to be different from other paranormal reads. I liked how the heroine, Ainsley, is wolf from the beginning, she is smart, and ambitions (she is a real estate agent in NYC). She is stubborn an refuses to listen to what everyone is telling her about finding a mate. Even though she knows deep downside what she has to do and who she is, she is not letting anyone tell her what to do. She is going to figure things our on her own and make her own decisions. I also liked Erik. He seems like an alpha through and through. He is intelligent and has the respect of the pack. He not only has Ainsley best interest at heart but also the packs. As for Julian, I did not like him much. Right off the bat, he rubbed me the wrong way. I would recommended this series to anyone who likes a strong heroine. I am looking forward to reading the next two episodes!
This audio book ranks highly for the quality of the narration and for the enjoyment of a well written, good, escapist read. The narration was excellently executed and was an easy listen. The story had so hooked I listened to it all in one session. I didn't have a favourite character. Thankfully, none of the characters were performed in an over the top way so I was able to concentrate on the story rather than be distracted by annoying accents. I enjoyed all the character performances but Ainsley stood out most for me, probably because she was the main character. The heightened sexual awareness and tension rippling through the town was both humorous and sexy. It was well written and I quite liked how Ainsley took opportunities to tease and converse with innuendo when she had the chance. The suspense and cliffhangers have ensured that I will be downloading the rest of the series
I received a copy via audio book blast dot com in exchange for a review.
As my first ever review, I would like to recommend Curse of the Alpha, 1 & 2, by Tasha Black. Right from the beginning, Ms Black had me drawn to the heroine, Ainsley, who is shown to be a wolf shapeshifter. After the death of her parents, Ainsley is fully aware of the pressures for her to find a mate after returning to her hometown to settle her parents estate. Ms Black casts a web that immediately draws you to Ainsley's old friend, the now extremely hunky Eric who turns out to have been Ainsley's father's choice of a mate for her. However, you can't help but feel sadness and annoyance when Ainsley's feelings grow towards her new friend, Julian. Is he all he makes out to be? There is definitely something about him that grates the wrong way. With sexual attraction, frustration and excitement from the outset, these books keep you coming back for more. I can't wait to read further editions in the series of they are as exciting as these first two.
So Ainsley is a wolf shifter...but her parents didn't tell her that until after she accidentally killed a boy from her school. So now she wants nothing to do with wolves...and I don't blame her at all. Because they thought she was better off she now has to live with being a murderer. So...her parents die in a car accident and she goes home to close up the house and settle their affairs. This is where she finds out she must choose the next alpha by mating with them....and apparently she will literally want to have sex with whoever she looks at, how would she make an informed decision in a situation like that? What really made me quit on this though was when she sees the guy she brought home with her doing strange magic type things in her fathers study...despite the fact that she has never accepted her wolf side she decides that her wolf is best equipped to handle the situation. How does that make any sense?!
She denies her wolf half, runs from home, and now is back after the death of her parents. There is much Ainsley doesn't know about who and what she is and it's important that she figure it out as a whole pack of wolves is in danger and someone is after something that was in her father's possession.
This was the first two episodes in the Curse of the Alpha serial.
Overall, I was hooked and eager to read through the story in spite of wanting to bop Ainsley for her need to live in denial and her self-absorption. I get it. She feels guilty about something and its a big matter, but yeesh, get your head on straight before it's too late.
I do like the slow-burn tension building between Ainsley and the male she wishes to deny the sparks and sizzle they share with just a glance. The mystery element is engaging, too. I'll definitely be moving forward with this one at some point.
The main reason for giving it a poor rating was this is not a series but a serial - basically a complete book sold in parts, so there is little in the way of beginnings or endings. If I was going to read something like this normally I would wait till the whole serial was published so I could read it as a complete book.
As I only have books 1 and 2 I don't feel as if I know anything, am struggling to comment on plot lines and at a loss on who the main characters are. The premise of the story is good and the characters are starting to be developed and in full book format I would probably continue to read as I was drawn into the story. Unfortunately as episode 1 ended abruptly I realised this was going to happen in episode 2 and I would be left hanging; and not in a good way. Therefore reading episode 2 didn't engage me knowing the book would finish before the story did.
** I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **
I am always skeptical about books with Alpha in the title, because I like strong female characters...and usually with the word Alpha in the title we get weak women...Not this book...Ainsley is strong...even though she has bee through a lot..and has denied her wolf...and now has lost her parents..and is kind of being stalked..she holds it together...She has the unwanted task of choosing a mate and an Alpha for her pack/town and she really doesnt want to do it...But Ultimately I think she has been pushed into a corner now..and she is going to come out with her teeth and claws bared! Good story...will be listening to book 3/4 asap!
Curse of the Alpha: Episodes 1 & 2: A Tarker's Hollow Serial (BBW Shifter Paranormal Romance) by Tasha Black is about Ainsley Connor who wants to turn her back on her shifter past. She lives in New York. Tarker's Hollow wants her to choose the next alpha wolf. I gave it five stars.
"Eric wondered how any small town wolf from Tarker's Hollow was ever going to convince Ainsley Connor to fall in love. He remembered her stubborn determination, even as a child. The pack might be in more trouble than anyone suspected."
There is mature sexual content in this book. It ends with a cliffhanger.
I was gifted this book by a friend and it was a real treat to read. I was not able to put it down for the life of me. The action is spell binding to say the least, the characters are magnetic and the overall story offers a real pull of delight that will tickle your senses, that is if you dare to take this book, open it's cover and dive right in it. Now, all I want to do is read the other chapters of incredible story, because I know I will not sleep at night if I do not.
I have read many other books by Tasha Black, but this one is the one that literally got me in it's grasp. So if you love stories that will leave you wanting for me, if you love wolf shifters, incredible sex scenes and a real page turner story, this book is definitively for you.
UPDATE: July 27, 2016. I listened to the audio. Great way to reread. Enjoyed even more the second time around. You can't fight your nature forever. Ainsley is learning that. She rejected her wolf shifter side and ran away to school, creating a new life in NY. At her parents death, she forced to return. She knew there were many sifters in her small town, but she was young and knew nothing about the life.
Now she is the alpha by heritage and is told she must choose a mate--not only chose but live with forever for the good of the town/pack.
How long can she resist the demands of her heritage and the pull of her pack's males, all interested in her alpha side.
. Äußerst übergriffig
Wow what a great story. The author put so much detail in to building this wonderful story. I literally couldn't put it down after something bad happen to her she runs away, off to college, off to the big city and never looked back but with the death of her family she is back to handle thing and yet strange things keep happening. What to do? Who to choice? And what's next. I cant wait for the next book.
I was just able to get the audio book on this wow it is awesome. So much fun to listen to. You got to hear it this book!
I am so glad I found this amazing author!! This awesome must read series is da bomb & somehow each episode gets even better than the fantastic one before :D ... A 6 part, page-turning, serial novel that is captivating & the characters are awesome, too! ... If you love reading contemporary fiction (even if paranormal is new for you like it was for me) you'll love this, too! It includes some hot steamy romance, suspense & cool modern day, hot werewolves and shifters!! I am now a new fan_girl for life :D
I both read the book and listened to the audio and there is one thing that remains the same across both formats... Ainsley is just not a very likeable character. I spent 80% of the time rolling my eyes every tie she went on with the "I'm not staying" monologue. At this point I'm not sure if I want to read the next 2 parts. I may actually give them a try in a couple of weeks, after all, I did enjoy the other characters.
Now this story is different. Not finding out you were a wolf until your late teens. Daddy's the alpha. Try hiding what you are and what you'll become with the full moon. Add a few sexy makes who would love to be alpha and a human who likes you and blends with you on so many levels. But, what is it that is being sought after?
Ok, so I've read all the episodes in this book. Yes I cheated but I promise not to away any spoilers. I LOVE this entire book! It's very unique and different and not your typical run of the mill shifter series. This is my first series by Tasha Black and she absolutely nailed this series. This really is the best shifter series I've read. Oh for Pete's sake just go get it and see for yourself.
