A tale of two sparrows is a wonderful adventure novel set in mysterious lands. I found the dual narrators to be effective, oftentimes Colin would be wondering what Molly thought about a certain situation or vice versa. And the story evolves in such a way that you get that answer in the very next chapter! I found it to be quite the page turner, as I would always be wondering what the other character thought.

As a lover of monsters, I found the soul devouring wilderness creatures to be very interesting. In my mind they serve as a metaphor for dark thoughts, trauma, or anything that can unwind a person. We see characters take remedy to stave off the creatures, but to me they are numbing themselves from facing uncomfortable truths.

The author does a great job of describing foods, due to the scarcity in this lands. I found myself craving a Molly apology bread or a sweet waffle in a winter village.

I would highly recommend this book as a cozy winter read! The relationship between Colin and Molly was the highlight for me, and I encourage anyone reading to focus on that aspect of the book.

And next time I go out in the cold, I’ll be sure to line my boots with goose feathers.
