Goal Line Attraction

Rate this book
When professional NHL goalie Ellis Karlsson shares a steamy night with rinkside reporter Monica Rose, neither expects it to lead to a life-changing a baby on the way. Bound by more than just their professional ties to the Minnesota Grizzlies, Ellis and Monica must navigate an unexpected pregnancy, living with one another, and the possibility of something more.

As they work together to prepare for parenthood, Ellis is also searching for the sibling he lost touch with in a Swedish orphanage, a ghost from his past he can't quite let go. Monica, meanwhile, is learning how to untangle herself from a childhood where she was forced to grow up too fast, raising her younger sister like a daughter and building walls so high that no one has successfully knocked down, until now.

Both are fiercely independent, both guarded by wounds that never fully healed, and both are terrified of falling for someone who could break their heart.

Surrounded by their tight-knit group of friends and teammates, Ellis and Monica slowly find comfort in one another. But love, like hockey, demands risk. And if they want to build something real, not just for themselves, but for the family they’re creating, they’ll have to face the past, trust the present, and fight for the future.

Goal Line Attraction has one of my favorite tropes—accidental pregnancy—and it was written so well. It also features sports romance, a one-night stand, and a beautiful found family element.

Ellis and Monica’s love story was so beautiful. The author didn’t rush it; instead, it built gradually until they couldn’t live without each other. It felt so natural and heartfelt.

Ellis is such a likable character, while Monica is a bit harder to warm up to, which is understandable because she’s guarded due to her past trauma. The author portrayed that with so much care and depth.

I also loved the side characters. They truly showed the beauty of found family and how they always had the main characters’ backs.

It’s a solid 4-star read and I definitely recommend it.

Thanks to the author and Elaine Proofreading for this ARC.

If you’re in need of an easygoing, cozy read and you love strong females, protective males, and a whole lot of love and friendship, Goal Line Attraction by Jordy Griffin might be just the story for you.

This second book in the Minnesota Grizzlies series tells the story of Monica and Ellis. Together with her little sister, Monica escaped her abusive father when she was just a teenager. Over the years, she’s managed to build a good life for herself and now works as the rink reporter for the Minnesota Grizzlies. Ellis, or as his teammates like to call him, Swede King, is the team’s goalie, and he has his eyes set on Monica. One thing leads to another, and their one-night stand has a consequence neither of them saw coming.

I love reading about strong, independent FMCs, and Monica is just that. Ellis Karlsson, the MMC, is what you’d call a walking green flag. He’s polite, protective, caring, and takes responsibility for his actions. It’s nice to see the dynamics shift between the two of them, although they stay true to themselves at all times.

The story is well-paced and sprinkled with some twists and turns. The biggest one at the end makes me want to read the next book in the series immediately, and I’m bummed that I’ll have to wait until spring 2026 for it.

However, Goal Line Attraction will be out in December 2025. In the meantime, you can read Defensive Play, book one in the series.

"I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.” Goal line attraction. When NHL goalie Ellis Karlsson spends an unexpected night with rinkside reporter Monica Rose, neither anticipates the consequences that follow including a surprise pregnancy that upends both of their lives. Tied together not only by their connection to the Minnesota Grizzlies but now by impending parenthood, Ellis and Monica must navigate new territory: cohabitation, vulnerability, and the potential for something deeper. As Ellis prepares for fatherhood, he’s also haunted by the search for a long-lost sibling from his past in a Swedish orphanage a mystery he can’t quite put to rest. Monica, meanwhile, faces her own reckoning, learning to heal from a turbulent upbringing where she became a surrogate parent to her younger sister far too soon. Both fiercely self reliant and wary of heartbreak, they struggle to let anyone in until they find unexpected solace in each other. With a supportive circle of friends and teammates, Ellis and Monica begin to build trust and tenderness. Yet love, like hockey, comes with risks. To forge a real future for themselves and the family they’re creating they must confront old ghosts, embrace the present, and believe in the possibility of something lasting. With the twist and turns wants you to know what’s more to come. Must read!💛

This book had me giggling and kicking my feet like a child—and I mean that in the best possible way. It’s fun, flirty, emotional, and somehow manages to feel both comforting and exciting all at once.

I’ll be honest: the surprise pregnancy trope isn’t usually my thing. But Jordyn Griffen handled it so well. Instead of being thrown in halfway through the story, it’s right there from the start—and that choice makes all the difference. It gives the story room to breathe, to explore love, trust, and growth in a way that feels natural rather than forced.

Ellis and Monica just click. There’s no grand explanation for it—they just work. Monica’s trauma is handled with such empathy, never sensationalized, and it adds a layer of realism that hit me hard. She’s strong, flawed, and deeply human. And Ellis… what a man. Supportive, patient, protective—but never overbearing. He’s the kind of romantic lead that ruins you for real life in the best way.

Goal Line Attraction is one of those romances that makes your heart feel full. It’s sweet and sexy, but it also has real emotional weight. Jordyn Griffen scored big with this one.

As if the grumpy goalie is an absolute cinnamon roll for his Monica!!! After a ONS, Monica and Ellis have a little surprise for them and whilst Monica is panicking about the prospect of becoming mum, Ellis could not be happier. He's in right from the get go, and lets face it, he was all in well before that already anyway but the news was just an added bonus to get closer to the woman he's been in love with for the longest time. Low drama because they have the best support group ever, Ellis and his team mates and Monica and her girl gang all get on fabulously - instant best friends group that I want to join too! Ellis is so patient and takes care of Monica, and it's been a long time since someone looked out for her, he makes my heart swoon! Accidental pregnancy done right and had me grinning cheek to cheek when the book finished. This is book 2 from the Grizzlies series, a stand alone with interconnected characters, following the players HEAs!

Book about professional NHL goalie Ellis Karlsson who spent a steamy night with rinkside reporter Monica Rose. They thought it was just one time thing and that they would go to their separate way but what they didn’t know that soon everything will be changed. Because a baby is on the way to them. Ellis and Monica have past and indeed they both went through a lot of things. But despite everything they both stood strong and become fiercely independent by themselves. They navigate through every situation to their hea.

This book is a slow-burn, hockey romance filled with emotional depth, finding family, and forever both on and off the ice. I so much enjoyed this book that I can’t tell. This one have everything you’re looking into a book. From starting to the end it keeps getting interesting. Focusing on characters, storyline and balancing everything is on top point.

Would recommend this book to everyone

What more can a girl want in a book? Goal Line Attraction is book 2 in an interconnected standalone series about the teammates on the Minnesota Grizzlies and the shenanigans they get into off the ice.

There were many elements that made me like it more and more - one being slight plot twists sprinkled within the story.

There is more plot than spice which is another yes for me but the spicy scenes were still giving for you spicy girlies.

I can’t wait to read the rest of the series as they come out!

I liked this book way better than the first book.

I seen that sibling twist coming before it was brought up. Which is kinda sad. I like twist I don’t see coming.

The stalker issue was solved much easier than I’d like.

Genevieve was a non working college student and could live in an apartment. But Monica being a working adult can’t afford the same apartment?? I mean I get she’s helping her sister with school. But how can one afford it without a job but the other can’t with a job. Please make it make sense 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I’d rate this at a 4 and half. But Goodreads only does full stars. And spice is maybe a quarter.

~ARC Review ~
I love this series & its adorable friend group. It has some spice, but it's not smut heavy & doesn't take over the story. I love Monica & Ellis together & how they didn't hesitate to take care of each other. Plus I love that they called the baby 'Puck' until they named him.....it was so stinking cute. Quick read, not too serious, loveable characters. I can't wait to read about our next two in the group 🥰.

Goal Line Attraction is a fun, steamy hockey romance with heart! I loved the chemistry, banter, and the balance of sports life with emotional growth. The heroine’s strength and the hero’s vulnerability made their connection feel real and satisfying. A perfect pick for readers who love slow-burn tension, found-family vibes, and a swoon-worthy athlete who learns how to love off the ice too.

Ellis and Monica are such a great couple, despite all the odds. This surprise pregnancy HEA was a fun one to read, with Ellis and Monica both having strong, hard headed personalities that clash more or less. The story development was easy to follow, the side characters played along well. I loved the story (and the spice 😏) very much!
