I'm happy to tout this as being London’s demure and sophisticated take on ‘Sex and the City’, in this heart warming, feel-good, laugh-out-loud, rollercoaster of an emotional, romcom drama, which tells the story of an ambitious twenty-something media whore; and that's media whore, as in being enthusiastic about working in the media industry, and not 'whore' as in 'whore'; where this ex-teen model, Katrina Yolander Love, who’s currently languishing at the bottom of the media job pile, has the good fortune of being lucky enough to live in her multimillionaire ex-boyfriend’s ex-flat, at the end of a tumultuous relationship with him, when he ups sticks to live abroad, and invites her to look after his Notting Hill apartment. And this very witty, emotive, and sultry, contemporary tale, in noughties London, covers the time that she lived there.
Thankfully landing on both feet, then, Katrina was initially hoping that mixing with the rich and famous was going to be enough to satisfy her, but now wanting to get to the top under her own steam and to have continued immediate access to this privileged lifestyle, she has to find a way to live in the area permanently, and with this in mind, she needs to make a lot more money than her receptionist wages can provide. However, Katrina keeps on getting sidetracked, by having relationships with the top media talent she’s working with, in a variety of different media outlets; a television studio, a radio station, and a film company; that she works at over this period. In the meantime, the lead singer of her favourite band, known as ‘The Mysterious One’, keeps popping up in the background around W11, where he also lives, and appears to be giving Katrina a visual and/or sonic guide, as she approaches each crossroad.
THIS FULL-BODIED, BLOCKBUSTER OF A PAPERBACK, FOR GENUINE BOOK LOVERS, WILL ALSO BE AVAILABLE AS AN EBOOK.
Katrina, obsessed with numerous life hypotheses, though, uses these compulsions to her advantage, where she eventually works out what’s really important in life, and with a few tricks up her sleeve, and a best friend, Missy, on her arm, Katrina ends up somewhere that no-one could have predicted, expected, and where she, herself, could never ever have imagined.
