A poignant portrait of loss, love, anger, and all the things that make us unmistakably human. I had the pleasure of first encountering The Timing of a Day in my ensemble’s Acting Lab before its official publication. Studying the given circumstances of this world is extremely rewarding, especially considering each vignette is marked by events. Josh, Doug, and Paige are characterized so viscerally, the text transforming into an actor’s playground. I went to New York for the first time in January for graduate school auditions and after a long taxi from Newark, the first place I begged my best friend to take me was the Drama Book Shop. My fingers running down every spine, I screamed, jumping for joy upon finding a newly displayed signed copy of Panettieri’s new play. I loved seeing characters like the ones in the play reflected in real-life-New-Yorkers— a beautiful image of an identity esoteric to that moment in time. Flash forward to a somber flight home to Texas, I soaked in each word, eyes sprinting to the final words, hands closing the chapter, and finally feeling resolute. And then unfortunately, I ended up leaving the play on the plane (bad timing), but I hope it finds its way upon someone who needs to read it.
