Being honest, I normally stick to contemporary romance. I like love stories VERY rooted in reality with very few exceptions, so I wasn't sure how I’d feel about a Sci-Fi type book such as Luna.

N.J. Luca however created an alternate world so fascinating and layered that I found myself really sucked in!

The way N.J. mixes the real Appleton Valley with Luna was super smart. It didn’t feel like what I think a typical sci-fi book would be, but more like an interesting albeit tilted mirror reflection into our own reality.

There’s a line in the book that I actually had to stop and make note of: "Funny how that works, how we clutch diagnoses like security blankets in our youth, then discard them as inconvenient truths when we think we have outgrown them." WOW. That was so beautifully written and felt like it was such an accurate portrayal of how we as human beings use medical diagnoses. Not exactly the type of beautiful writing I expected to find in a sci-fi book of all things. Really awesome!

I also thought it was so cool that the protagonist, Logan, isn’t some "perfect" being. She’s messy and very real. There’s a scene early on where she ends up chucking a wine bottle off a balcony and it made her so much more authentic to me. That type of stuff made the more "out there" parts of the story easier for me to believe.

Speaking of "out there," this one scene with Ace totally took me by surprise, especially his behavior at the end of it. I did NOT see that coming! Ace is such a menacing, complicated figure along with being genuinely chilling to the bone.

The ending caught me off guard too. Wowsers!

Even though this isn't my normal genre, I'm stoked I read this book. Luna was such a cool read that managed to be an alternate reality type tale all the while keeping the heart of a deeply human story which I truly appreciated. N.J. Luca did a really terrific job here!
