Emily Sinclair lives by the Rule of Three: work hard, stay organized, and never, under any circumstances, look at Finn Taylor as anything other than her brother’s best friend.
Finn has always been her safe harbor. The late-night phone call. The permanent plus-one. The only person who knows she’d rather temper chocolate than draft a legal brief. He is also the pro football star whose career just slammed into a brick wall of a humiliating season-ending injury.
When Finn’s confidence hits rock bottom, Emily does what she does best. She makes a plan. She will help him through rehab, and in return, he will help her transform a dusty storefront into the chocolate shop of her dreams.
Simple.
Except somewhere between physical therapy sessions and renovation dust, the lines they spent a decade drawing start to blur. Finn is not just offering tool-belt advice anymore. He is looking at her with a hunger that has nothing to do with truffles.
Breaking her overprotective brother’s one rule was supposed to be the hard part.
But as the friend zone disappears in the rearview mirror, Emily realizes the real danger is not losing her heart.
It is risking the one relationship she has never been able to live without.
Because if this goes wrong, she does not just lose a boyfriend.
Christina Hovland lives her own version of a fairy tale: an artisan chocolatier by day and romance writer by night. Born in Colorado, Christina received a degree in journalism from Colorado State University. Before opening her chocolate company, Christina’s career spanned from the television newsroom to managing an award-winning public relations firm. She’s a recovering overachiever and perfectionist with a love of cupcakes and dinner she doesn’t have to cook herself. A 2017 Golden Heart® finalist, she lives in Colorado with her first-boyfriend-turned-husband, four children, the sweetest dog around, and now Chloe, the wonder pup.
High powered attorney Emily has just won yet another case for a shady, entitled, and probably guilty one percenter and is celebrating by watching her brother’s best friend - who happens to be her crush - play professional football on TV in her favorite sports dive bar with an underling. In the midst of a brilliant play, disaster strikes and Finn is taken out of the game with a season ending and very delicate injury.
I liked but didn’t love this spicy romcom. All the elements were in place: a very self-assured FMC, a cinnamon roll MMC, lots of jokes about phalluses, etc., but the execution wasn’t the greatest, imho. It’s not a terribly long read, but I had difficulty staying engaged.
Finally Acknowledging the Inevitable - Emily couldn’t believe she actually agreed to look after her brother’s best friend whilst he recuperated from an injury, but she soon realised it was because she was no longer happy with her job. Finn wasn’t happy he was being forced to stay in bed to recuperate, but having Emily stay with him made it much easier to accept. Spending time together was initially awkward, as she had to help him with the injury that was in a delicate area of his body, but he was happy when she opened up to him about what she actually wanted to do with her life.
Emily finally got the courage to resign from her job and do what she really wanted, with Finn and her friends giving her the support she needed. Even though Emily and Finn tried to keep their relationship platonic, the sparks between them soon ignited into a situation where they could no longer keep their hands off each other. Unfortunately, not long after Emily and Finn began their friends with benefits relationship, her brother walked in on them doing the horizontal mambo, which forced them to finally acknowledge their true feelings for each other.
As luck would have it, Emily and Finn confessed their feelings and embarked on a journey together towards building the life they wanted. This scintillating romance story with superb writing and fantastic humor throughout was difficult to put down from the moment I started reading it. There was an incredible emotional depth to the characters, that made the story exciting and worth the time it took me to finish reading the book. I highly recommend this book to any avid romance reader.

I loved this friends to lovers to forever, brother’s best friend romance. The story had a wonderful balance of humor, heartwarming love, real life issues, light angst, and spice without any third act breakup. The story was warm and fuzzy and made my heart happy to read the book and just get lost in the love story. Finn is a professional football player who just suffered a severe groin injury during a game. Emily is a shark of a litigation attorney. Emily’s brother is also Finn’s best friend and agent and Finn and Emily have been good friends for years. Just when Finn is home recovering from his injury with Emily temporarily living with him to help out, she makes the decision to resign her partnership to open a chocolate shop. The forced proximity and Finn’s fears make it harder to hide the feelings that have always been there between them so they agree to an experiment. To get to their HEA there will need to be a bit of baggage unpacking, truth telling, leaps of faith, and of course, life course correction. The story was well written and included engaging dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and a captivating storyline. I am looking forward to reading more in the series in the Stallions series world. 4.25 stars.
Emily is disenchanted with being the best attorney at her firm. She worked very hard to get where she is but feels she's fighting for the wrong side. Finn is injured and needs help while recovering from his football injury. Finn and Emily have been besties forever, always there for one another. So when the attraction is strong it makes it so hard to risk their lifelong friendship. But Finn really listens and helps her find her way and vice versa. These two are a perfect match!
In the Friend Zone is a perfectly sweet, spicy heat, low-angst escape from reality romance, ala Christina Hovland and she does it so well. This second book in her Mile High Stallions sports romance series couldn't have had better opposites attract, friends to lovers and more MCs to fall for than Finn and Emily. I loved everything about them! Elliott, her brother, also Finn's agent and his life-long best friend played a smaller part, but the three of them have been close since they were kids.
I enjoyed getting to know Finn. This guy seemed like quite the catch- charming and funny, oozing cinnamon roll hero yumminess all day long. He's living his childhood dream until a bad play on the field takes him down in an all-time, embarrassing low. Is he out the game forever or just sidelined for the season? That's the big question. I liked that the story was focused on and highlighted these character's interconnected lives and relationships, not just the football side of the story.
Finn and Emily are each other's person, as friends, of course, because crossing the line into more could become the ruin of their long friendship, and that would crush them both. She was there for him in when he needed her most, and when the fear of losing it all was all he could think about, she was his voice of reason. I was rooting for their obvious attraction to go to the next level, even if Elliott wasn't seeing the writing on the wall...yet!
Emily has made her mark as a sharkish, ladder climbing lawyer, intense and driven in the courtroom, but dreaming of a completely different profession. Finn's injury has her examining her own life choices and the realization that something needs to change hits her like a freight train. Emily is a total badass worth admiring and seeing her in action was one of my favorite parts of this book.
Everything seems to fall into place when Emily finds the tribe she didn't know she needed. This was one of the most magical girl-power moments I've seen in a long time. They feel like missing additions to her found family and slid right in like they'd been there all along. Emily takes risks that pay off, in her 'sweet, chocolately' new venture, and also with Finn, who's a keeper in every way. His support and theirs give her the confidence to start over again and live the dream.
"This was it. This was the payoff. The risk, the leap, the life I wanted. The man I hadn’t meant to love."
The dual first person POV was a nice touch and a surprise I wasn't expecting in this one, but I thought it made their story even better, if that was even possible. The banter between Emily and Finn was amazing and witty, the humor, just right. They knew each other so well and cared so much and it showed in every aspect of their relationship. One of my favorite romance tropes is close proximity and I was not disappointed with this one- their's was tender, and so, so hot! They way they took a chance on each other? Swooniness to infinity and beyond.
Denver fans will definitely be all-in for Stallion sightings- so fun how the team-mates come though! They were there for Finn and the other surprises sprinkled in were such a nice bonus. My heart was full and happy with Emily and Finn's romantic HEA, and their 'those who dream together, stay together no matter what', story. I needed a feel-good book like this, and my wish was granted. I'm excited to see what comes next in this Mile High Stallions world. I would love for Emily's brother to find his special person. Can that be arranged at some point, please?
* I read an early copy of this book and am leaving this honest, freely given review of In the Friend Zone.
This is the first book I’ve read by Christina Hovland, and it will definitely not be my last. I admit I’m a fan of the friends to lovers trope, and this book did it so well. I loved everything about it. The writing was engaging, the story drew me in immediately, and the characters were interesting and fun.
The MMC is an absolute teddy bear of a guy. Finn was charming, funny, sweet, self-deprecating, thoughtful… I could go on and on. And Emily, the FMC, somehow managed to be both a professional shark and a complete softie for Finn. And I just loved their dynamic. The bantering. The shared longing. The way they encouraged and supported one another.
It’s a testament to the author that Finn and Emily don’t go beyond brief touches and glances before the halfway mark in the story, and yet I was so engrossed I didn’t even notice. The story kept me interested even without the two of them being romantically involved. But when they finally *did* act on their attraction…! And I was so happy there wasn’t any third act break up. Just two adults being honest with one another. Very refreshing.
I only have one complaint, and that’s about the renovation of Emily’s shop. As the daughter of a contractor, I was cringing while reading those parts of the story. No one in their right mind would ever do construction work the way the characters did. I shudder to think of it even now. But it’s a tiny part of the book, and something most people won’t even notice so I’m not going to let it affect my review. I just needed to get it off my chest.
All in all, this was a really wonderful read. I’ll be picking up more books by this author just as soon as I post this review!.

Emily Sinclair has three rules in life ~ work hard, stay organized, and never look at Finn Taylor with anything but friendship. Finn has always been a constant in her life, the person she can call anytime, and her permanent plus-one. He's also the only person who knows she'd rather make chocolate than practice law. Finn's a pro football player with the Stallions who suffers a season-ending injury that's both unusual and humiliating. When his confidence takes a hit, Emily has a plan. She'll help him through rehab and he'll help her turn a dusty storefront into her new chocolate shop. But somewhere along the way, the lines of friendship they've spent years drawing begin to blur. The friend zone begins to disappear and Emily realizes that the real danger isn't losing her heart, it's in risking the one relationship she's always counted on. If things go bad, she won't just lose a boyfriend, she'll lose Finn.
This is the second book in the Mile High Stallions series and it was an absolutely amazing read. The book was well-written with well-developed and likable characters while the plot is fun, full of humor, and fast-paced. I was immediately drawn into this captivating story and kept hooked throughout. I truly loved Emily and Finn, they made a fantastic couple. Then there were the other characters, friends both old and new, who had emotional depth to the story. The romance is both sweet and spicy without being graphic. Christina Hovland is one of my "automatic-read" authors and I was thrilled to get an ARC of this can't-miss book. This is my honest, unbiased review. I loved this book and am very eager for more from the series. I highly recommend both book and series.
A football romance that feels authentic, real, and emotionally grounded. This is a great storyline, starting with a football injury that highlights just how intense the chemistry between the two really is, and building into a relationship grounded in friendship that naturally grows into more. I absolutely loved Emily—a driven, capable lawyer who takes a leap of faith, changes careers, and brings along an interesting group of co‑workers who quickly become friends. She felt refreshing and relatable. Finn(makes an amazing friend and boyfriend) is a football star she has known forever: the best friend of her brother, Elliot, who also acts as his agent. That long history gives their relationship a strong foundation. Their connection has always been there, and the author weaves that familiarity beautifully into the story through their interactions and banter, while also unraveling their deepening relationship. Elliot delivers the expected “not my best friend dating my sister” reaction, made more complex by his dual role as both brother and agent, but it’s handled honestly and without being overplayed, making it feel realistic and satisfying when it’s resolved. The supporting characters—Dallas, Angie, Maya, Sharon, to name just a few—add further depth and emotional texture, making the story feel rich and well‑rounded. This was such an enjoyable read—a romance that made me smile and absolutely got those happy‑ending endorphins going.

In the Friend Zone by Christina Hovland is friends-to-lovers perfection with heart, humor, and just the right amount of heat. Emily Sinclair lives by her Rule of Three — work hard, stay organized, and absolutely do not fall for her brother’s best friend. Too bad Finn Taylor, pro football player for the Stallions, has always been her safe place… and now he’s temporarily sidelined with a humiliating season-ending injury and stuck at home with her. The forced proximity (rehab sessions + chocolate shop renovations!) brings years of buried feelings to the surface, and I loved every second of it. Their “experiment” to explore what’s always simmered between them is equal parts sweet and swoony, with spice that enhances the romance without overpowering it. Best of all? No unnecessary third-act breakup — just grown-up conversations, unpacked baggage, and real emotional growth. Hovland’s writing is warm, witty, and effortlessly engaging. The dialogue sparkles, the characters feel fully dimensional, and the side cast adds depth without stealing focus. Finn and Emily are the kind of couple you root for from page one — best friends, safe harbor, forever love. An absolutely amazing addition to the Mile High Stallions series and an easy auto-buy author for me. This one made my heart ridiculously happy.
I have anticipated getting this book in my hands for months! It was worth the wait 🩵 Finn and Emily are magic together. When Finn received the big impact to the nether regions Emily rushed to Finn to make sure he was okay. He was relieved to have her there. He gives her the courage to open her own chocolate shop—he believes in her and he helps her get the shop ready! Finn is such a sweetheart 🩷 with . . . you know . . . a big package that a too small cup sidelined him the rest of the season for. So, Finn and Emily run this ‘experiment’, things are going . . . well, Elliott walks in at an inconvenient time—heh heh heh. While they’re both ‘walking blind’ for a bit, they get it together eventually—making this story adorably cozy, sexy, sweet, fun, a splash of angst, and a whole lotta connection. *** Recommended ***

Really good love story! Emily is a brilliant partner in a law firm that puts money and winning over people and doing what is right. I was tickled pink when she quit to follow her dream, especially how she delivered her resignation! It showed me exactly what kind of person she truly was, not the person they were trying to make her into. Finn is her brother's best friend and the man who has always been her sounding board. The one man besides her brother that she could trust with anything. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I gotta say the way that Finn gets hurt while playing football had even me wincing, although the banter that followed the injury was hilarious!! I loved the interactions between Emily and Finn, they really are quite perfect for each other. I enjoyed their mixture of legal and football quips and conversations. This is a really entertaining story with mild heat between Emily and Finn, yet they have you melting in a puddle of warm fuzzy feelings. I would have given this story a 5 rating if the author had turned up the heat a little or put more details into the heated parts. All in all, I did really enjoy reading this book and do recommend it to you!
I was excited to read the second book in the Mile High Stallions series. I really loved Finn and Emily individually and as a couple. Finn is rocked by the nature of his injury and his fears that he won’t be able to play football anymore. He hasn’t figured out what his life will do with his life after he stops playing. I loved how Emily took the leap to leave her law partnership behind to open a chocolate shop. She took a stand to do what she felt was morally right rather than the safe choice. Finn and Emily came together slowly but naturally as she helped him during his recovery. I loved the friends she made as she left her law firm and the friends both she and Finn had already. These side characters added depth to the story, and I hope to see some of them in future books in the series. This was a low angst romance with plenty of humor and some steamy moments. Christina Hovland is one of my favorite authors. The characters she writes are well rounded and pull me into their story. Her books are filled with great and quirky characters. I received a free copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
BFFs to More?, Career Crossroads, Well-Written, Can't Put Down Amazing Book!
I loved this book and did not put it down despite the chocolate cravings from the descriptions of Emily's confections (OMG!) and I wanted football season to hurry up and start. I loved Finn and Emily, especially together. They were both so driven, in touch with their feelings but still supportive of each other that there was no way they should not be together despite them both repressing their romantic feelings for fear of ruing their friendship and relationships with her brother. And I loved that she sought happiness instead of "career success" when law didn't feel right for her any more and she made new friends and success with her chocolates (with Finn's and their help). The book is well written, witty, the characters are well developed and likable and it's impossible to put down. It easily works as a standalone although it is part of a series and I can't wait for the next one - Enjoy (but have some chocolates available :)!)
I was sent an ARC by the author and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Super cute romance! A dash of snark, a pinch of humor, and a whole lot of chocolate ganache combine to make In the Friend Zone a hit.
Elliott and Finn have been friends forever, and Elliott’s sister Emily has always found Finn attractive—so when he’s injured on the field, she jumps at the chance to help him out. Emily is a high-powered attorney, a total shark in the courtroom, but she’s starting to question her career when she can no longer stomach defending big businesses at the expense of the (sometimes only marginally) innocent.
I really enjoyed Emily and Finn’s banter—it’s playful, sharp, and full of chemistry. Elliott adds a fun dynamic as the mildly fierce, protective older brother. Fans of the series will also appreciate a few familiar faces popping in to help move the story along.
In the Friend Zone is a sweet read (pun fully intended), with plenty of heat and minimal conflict—perfect if you’re in the mood for something light, charming, and satisfying.
I really loved this friends to lovers, brother’s best mate romance. Emily and Finn are such engaging characters, and Ms. Hovland combines heartwarming with humour and plenty of steam (and no third act breakup!). Emily is a high powdered shark of a lawyer who ends up adult sitting Finn after a season ending injury on the football field. These two grew up together and knew everything about each other, secretly harboring feelings for the other, so living together it was hardly surprising they’d cross the line. However, I loved the excuse they gave themselves to take their friendship into the ‘benefits’ zone! While all this romance blossoming business is going on, Emily’s moral compass has her refusing to take on a client and quitting the law firm to open a chocolate shop. I loved this part of the story – her exit from the firm inspiring others to follow suit, the growing friendship with her former assistant Dallas, the girl power on show, and the friends that show up to make this a success. I was invested in these characters from the start and loved the story all the way to the end.
He is her brother's best friend, but has also been a good friend to her as well... so not just the 'annoying little sister hanging around.' Her brother also happens to be his agent, so not only is their friendship at stake, but his career. But then he suffers an injury while playing (NFL) so his career may be in question anyways. She's a lawyer, and while legalese is over my head, I loved how it was incorporated into the story in various ways. I also enjoyed just how lighthearted the book was. Even when the characters may have been going through something somewhat traumatic, there was a lightness about it all. I also appreciated how there were no games being played with the characters. They said what they mean and didn't beat around the bush. There was also no up and downs when it came to their feelings. No hot and cold. There is some spice, but it's not written in a 'smutty' kind of way. Not overly graphic. (There is however, a lot of talk about his junk.) ;) There is also some humor. It's easy to read and reads pretty quickly, as you'll have trouble putting it down.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a fun, easy read with a ton of characters, not only Emily and Finn, that I want to spend a lot more time with.
I adored Finn and Emily. Finn, I felt so bad for the man, I winced and yet I did have to giggle as he injury was laid out for the world to see, and though he hides behind his charm, he has a soft and good heart for those he cares about. Emily is driven and I loved watching as she turned her own world upside down and then found her own happiness. Their journey to their HEA was a lot of fun to watch. They know each other so well and have no issue calling the other out when necessary, while being each others safe place to land and I was very happy with how everything turned out for them.
If you’re looking for a fun friends to lovers read with very, very little angst and no outside over the top drama and a cast of supporting characters you want to get to know a whole lot more, then this is a definite one click for you!

I loved the first book in the series, On the Map, but for me, this book was even better!!!
I loved Emily! Yes, she was a courtroom b@d@55, but it was the fact that she realized she wasn’t happy and that she was not willing to destroy an innocent man’s life and character for a paycheck and a corner office. I enjoyed her easy friendship with Finn. But mostly I loved seeing them continue to support each other when things got rough. Finn was amazing! There’s nothing hotter than attractive guy in glasses! His injury had me cringing, but the “jokes” that ensued had me chuckling. I loved it when he went from room to room just to try to catch her scent. And when he realized that he’d been falling…wow! These characters and this story felt very real to me, which only drew me in further! This is now the second book that’s left me wondering what is going on with Elliot and Angela. This inquiring mind would love to know! I’m also hoping for more of Dallas! I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
Emily Sinclair is a brilliant lawyer who works for a firm that puts winning and profits over people and doing the right thing. Finn Taylor plays for the Stallions football team. Emily and Finn have been each other's person over the years. Emily's brother, Elliott, is Finn's best friend and agent who asks Emily to move in and look after Finn when he suffers a season-ending and possible career-ending injury. Will Emily leave her job and risk it all for her dream of baking chocolate goods? Will lines between friends and lovers blur as Emily and Finn spend time together? How will Elliott react when he learns of Finn and Emily's new relationship? I really loved In the Friend Zone by Christina Hovland. Emily and Finn are a great couple with amazing chemistry. I love Emily's gal group that followed her from her firm and work at her shop. I would highly recommend getting In the Friend Zone and the other book in the Mile High Stallions series by Christina Hovland. I received an advanced review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
what a cute romance book, i loved this one. I was exhausted and kept reading and couldn't stop. the pacing was so quick, it made it easy to fall into the story and just be immersed in this world. also the chocolate sounded so mouthwatering all the time, I really did not need that when I have no chocolate at the house.
Emily and Finn are such cute friends but I also loved their light bickering, their support of each other, they way they both dropped everything to help the other, and just overall every scene together. I mean it literally loved every moment of this book.
I also loved the complication of Finn being best friends with Emily's brother, he was hilarious, a well rounded comedic side character and I also loved his scenes. I hope he gets a book as well!
this review is just that I loved this book so ill say it again. highly recommend this book if your looking for a fun, flirty romance!
Finn is having a wonderful football season until he is hurt where the sun doesn’t shine and becomes a total social media joke. Emily is his best friend/agent’s little sister who is determined to help him with this rehabilitation. While staying with Finn to help, Emily realizes she isn’t thrilled with her life. Staying employed to a cutthroat law firm is no longer an option when the next client who wants her is known for their terrible business practices. When she gives her good bye speech she doesn’t realize what an impact she will have on others who are just as unhappy as she is with that company and they decide to quit also. They work together to help Emily begin her own chocolate candy shop. This story captured my heart as the two of them worked together to make a life that would be best for them. Finn was so supportive of Emily and I loved the way he helped her in all situations. I can’t wait to continue reading this series!
This has all the heart and wit that you can expect from any Mile High book and I just adored these two.
Emily and Finn are best buds and to make things more "tight" - her brother is Finn's agent. So when Finn gets a devastatingly unique injury on the football fiend, Emily is there to help see him through recovery and rehab. In the interim, she faces some career challenges and decides to go in a completely different direction.
So while Finn is recovering, he is also going to help Emily achieve her dreams. And along the way - the dream starts to include them together. Swoon! The way they got there was a bit of a slow burn and a more unique way to get there...IYKYK! ;-)
"'And I didn't fall in love with her, Elliott. I just stopped being able to pretend I wasn't already there.'" OMG!!
This was a fantastic read with a lot of wit and warmth. Thoroughly enjoyable!
I voluntarily requested and read an uncorrected advance reader copy.
This was such a fun and sweet story! Emily and Finn were too cute together and I loved how they just knew each other so well. Their connection was so strong you could almost feel a physical pull between them.
Even though Emily was very straight laced, she still came across as relatable. I liked that she was a professional in everything she put her mind to. She was smart and analytical but could still step outside her comfort zone and be a little sassy.
I loved sweet and goofy Finn. He had such a light and fun loving personality. I honestly don't know how Emily resisted him for so long. He was so cute in all his mannerisms and had such great energy.
I loved how funny and lighthearted this story was. Finn's "accident" lead to some hilarious moments. I liked getting to see past characters and maybe a hint for something between others. It was a quick read that was well written and very entertaining. I enjoyed it immensely and would definitely recommend it!!
This is the story I didn’t know I wanted! Emily is a tremendous character and her moral compass coming to light is inspiring-“I wasn’t merely playing on the wrong team. I was their MVP.” Finn is so well done-I connected to him right away. His humor and all-around goodness are front and center-“A glow spread through me, because she was glowing now, too.” The slow build romance between them is perfect. The humor throughout the story had me laughing out loud and it all started with the Dedication-see for yourself. The turn of phrases is spot on; easily related to and encompasses the way the character thinks about life. The development of the secondary characters is terrific, and I know I will be wanting their stories-just putting the request in now, Ms. Hovland. Get “In the Friend Zone” as soon as you can!
I gratefully received an ARC copy, but all opinions are my own.
This is the second book in the Mile High Stallions series, featuring Emily Sinclair and Finn Taylor. Finn, Emily’s best friend since childhood, is now a cornerback for the Denver Mile High Stallions. However, he suffers a season-ending injury, prompting Emily to move in with him to help him recover. Emily, a formidable litigator who despises defending corporate malfeasance, dreams of opening her own chocolate shop. While staying with Finn, she quits her soul-destroying job and embarks on her chocolate-making journey. As they navigate their futures and careers, Finn and Emily must confront their true feelings for each other amidst their close proximity. I thoroughly enjoyed both Finn and Emily and eagerly anticipate the next installment in this captivating series. I received an arc of this book from the author for my honest review.
Right timing This was so good! I loved the banter, the football play and legalese analogies, the friendships and the unwavering support. Emily and Finn grew up together, and from the very beginning it was clear they had long held hidden feelings for each other. Each character had layers, vulnerabilities and doubts but they also had imagination, beliefs and total convictions. This was a joy to read. It’s a friends to lovers, brother’s best friend, slow burn, close proximity romance. There’s wonderful humour, emotion, sweetness, swoons and steam. A little angst, a little tension and some career showdowns. Finn definitely made it to my book boyfriend list, and my favourite line of his …. “And I didn’t fall in love with her, Elliott. I just stopped being able to pretend I wasn’t already there.” 🫠
#BrothersBestFriend #FriendsToLovers #ForcedProximity #Sports #ARC I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book. It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV. It can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA. Finn is charming and fun. When an injury upends his life, it is Emily who arrives on the scene to make sure he is ok. Emily is smart, a shark of a lawyer, a perfectionist, and a woman who loves making artisan chocolate. She is good at taking care of Finn and he is good at taking care of her. I love how they support each other. They have undeniable chemistry that is only deepened by years of history and friendship. I loved these two together. The author does an amazing job with both Emily’s legal world and Finn’s football world. When they come together, they are just dynamite.
Ahh, I loved this book. While I really enjoyed the story, it was the cast of engaging characters that really made the story for me. You can tell that Christina knows how to write and bring life into her characters. When I can connection to the characters, the story is made better.
Emily and Finn are so good together. Because they already are good friends and just want the best for each other, it makes their romantic relationship sweeter. This book features two of my favorite tropes...he falls first and forced proximity.
The way that Finn encourages and supports Emily is very endearing. Especially since he is dealing with something himself. Which I love how much Emily made sure that Finn knew what he was dealing with was just a minor bump in the road. The hints of spice are very nice. Christina scores a touch down winning goal with this book!
Christina Hovland has been one of my favorite rom com writers ever since I read her first book when it was released. She does a great job of balancing the humor with emotional moments and great relationship development. I always love her characters - even the secondary ones - and this book is no exception.
Finn and Emily have been friends for years and her brother is even his agent and best friend. Their relationship is solid, but their perspectives begin to shift when she moves in to help after he's injured. I really liked both of them and how they truly cared for and supported one another. Both of them are going through major career and life issues which complicates things, but they are so perfect for one another.
I loved this book from the very first chapter and it's a great addition to the series!

Another great read from Christina Hovland! She continues to be one of my favorite authors because she consistently delivers stories full of humor, heat, angst, and heart.
Emily and Finn were such a standout couple for me. Their friends-to-lovers journey was filled with tension, chemistry, and emotional moments that made their story feel both fun and meaningful.
I especially loved how their relationship developed—it felt authentic, with just the right mix of slow burn and payoff. Add in the football setting and a great supporting cast, and it made for a really engaging read.
If you enjoy character- driven romance with strong chemistry, a touch of angst, and brings the spice 🌶 then this is definitely one to pick up.
