**This novella previously appeared in the On the Growl anthology.**
What’s a gal to do when a dog bite isn’t a dog bite and her boss makes her want to howl at the moon?
When her ex dumps her, the only thing Brenna Davis can think to do is drown her sorrows in a margarita—or ten. So she does, and all that got her was a serious headache and some weird bite on her arm. For some reason, she isn’t convinced it came from a dog…
Alpha of the Swan Mountain werewolf pack, Declan Ross, has two things on his to-do list:
1. Kill the damned rogue wolf in his territory.
2. Find the damned rogue’s newest victim before it chews its way through half the mountain.
Of course, when he finally finds the tempting, deliciously curved, blue-eyed woman he adds a third item to his list: keep Brenna Davis all to himself…forever.
Love this smexy read! Plenty of story to back up the steam. Brenna is snarky and fun to read. Declan is just so deliciously Alpha. Together they a fun read!
The steam is hot and spicy. This is a smexy read that will have you looking for a cold shower or ice cream to cool down!
The mixed narrative keeps you in the loop for what both characters are thinking. Great dynamic in an engaging read! Yummilicious
Waking up with a hangover from hell, Brenna Davis finds she has been bitten by something. With her life in shambles she visits her best friend and vet to look at it. Her whole world takes a different turn when she is told she is now a shifter wolf and Alpha of the Swan werewolf pack, Declan Ross comes storming in claiming she is his mate. Brenna freaks, not just because there is a creature inside that wants to come out and play but she has worked for Declan for years and he never looked her ay twice as a mate. Why now?
This was pretty silly. Brenna is struggling with her changing ways and also having issues with being a mate. Declan I liked but felt the chemistry could have been a bit more. Fun fluff.
Wow, this was just.... not my cup of tea I guess. No plot really. Whenever there was action or sex, it got kind of hard to follow and confused, which was much of the story. Almost no world building, character building or well... much of anything. Declan had no substance, and whats-her-name, the heroine was basically a whiny/bossy woman with no wit what-so-ever. Don't think I'll be trying this author again.
Received an ARC and I loved it. It was a great wee story with a nice uncomplicated plot. Awesome sassy sarcastic heroine with an alpha 'only has eyes for his mate' hero. A lovely intimate story that I will read again and again.
Liked the story, it was funny, had a strong female character, a good BFF, nice male character too, however, it was missing so much stuff.
I get that it was a super short book, but it wasn't KU, in fact it was $3 so I expected more. A better ending, more substance to the plot, because it had potential. Such a shame.
Brenna had the boys for her boss Declan but what Brenna didn't know was Declan felt the same but he could hide his desire for her so much better. Then one day Brenna was bitten by a rogue wolf.
You know a book is good when you finish it in a day! I can't get enough of Celia Kyle she is one of my favorite authors. Quick easy read to fill an evening or a little me time snuggled up to a fire. Prepare for some sass, some fun and a little danger.
111 pages at 99 cents is a reasonable price for a book by Ms. Kyle. Nice manuscript but suffers from her abrupt ending syndrome. Like bad sex where the guy ends things too soon, the story is only gotten you totally warmed up when it ends.
The relationship between Brenna and her best friend, the vet, make the book. Humor between them is great - and love the change and restoration after Brenna becomes an Alpha. Some of Ms. Kyle's best relationship writing there.
The reveal and resolution of the underlying plot (outside of the romance relationship) is too quick and just falls into the reader's lap. Would have liked that drawn out more - hard to do at the short story length. On the other hand, the story with the multi-storylines (relationship of Brenna with her friends, Brenna's personal journey as a were, Brenna's romantic/erotica relationship with Declan, Brenna's emotional healing after breaking up with her boyfriend, Declan's search for the rouge, Declan's relationship with his Beta who is taking on a little too much power, Declan's relationship with his pack, introducing Brenna to the pack, introducing were-Brenna back to her real life job, etc) was never meant to be just a short-story. Serious trimming of the extraneous matter needed to be done - or expansion - as it is too many threads just dangle.
I loved this book, from word one it had me laughing. I want to be Brenna when I grow up and I want my very own Alpha Wolf. Celia Kyle writes BBW we can get behind and cheer for, with their sassy attitudes and bravery even when scared. Only complaint I ever have with her books are they are to short. Well worth the time to read.

Yet another short book by Celia Kyle that is great. Everything that's needed for a longer length novel is included with maybe just a few details left out, but not details that going to be missed. I loved the snark brought in by the female MC, who has been working for, and lusting after, the hero for years. Only getting bitten by a rouge werewolf makes it so they can both explore their attraction to one another. And the hero, being a werewolf much longer to the point that he may be a born were, knows as soon as he scents the heroine that she is his mate, before he even finds out who she is.
Since the length is short, everything moves at a very fast pace, which is something I prefer from any length book. As Waking Up Were is not part of any series that I'm aware of, if you just want to check out Ms Kyle's writing style or you're trying to figure out the whole shifter craze, this is one of a few that are perfect for that idea. I'd also recommend it to any shifter romance fans.
Wow, what was this? Can we say DISAPPOINTED! And add WTF!
Waking up Were had no plot at all. Well except you count the whiny heroine who doesn't want to jump the hero's bones and the hero who doesn't want to do anything else.
I would have been nice to get the story the blurb promised. Instead I got a bitchy heroine and a sex crazed hero who finally did the deed in the end and the heroine thinks about marrying him because she got six orgasms???!!!
Pretty great. Sassy lead female. Alpha man. Not bad at all. Only thing was I found a little off was the end, it involved needing the toilet badly and food and letting him drag her back into bed with neither. If I need a pee no way I'm up for sexy fun times till I've been. Lol. Good short read though.
short. Mostly about her getting bit and what would happen. She didn't really fully accept H as her mate tell the end, she mostly denied it focusing on her soon transformation. climax Rouge walked in to her house in the middle of her shift and H fought him. they have sex at the end. it was basic as fuck..1.5/5. detailed but boring.
You got to love any story written by this author, Celia Kyle! This story was so much fun to read! It had me cracking up several times! I can't wait for more from this author!
Great story. I think this will be a good pack to follow. The story kept me interested and not wanting to put the story down. I'll keep following this story to see what happens next.
Fun story, love Celia's writing. But honestly I am tired of BBW catalogs and book covers using models that obviously don't fit the category! There are so many gorgeous BBW models...please use them.
Celia Kyle has quickly become one of my "one click automatically" authors. I just love everything she's written. The characters are all just people I love to read. There's humor, intrigue, drama, romance, all rolled into one. I love her books.
It was a quick read but it was just too quick it would have been better for me if there was more into the book, it was just like fast forwarding for me. Despite being a bit too short for me, I like the heroine, she got humor!
It's always a pleasure to read a book from this author. Excitement, erotica and action guaranteed. I have never been disappointed with any of her books. I really didn't suspect one of his wolves, nice.
This was a very enjoyable story. I loved Brenna's attitude and quirkiness. The humor Celia Kyle adds to her stories makes them all the more fun to read.
