Hazel Lewis has a serious problem. The guy who hired her to conduct a seance before he died turned out to be a serial killer with a demonic contract, and the seance itself was a trap. Hazel escaped with her life, but not as she knew it: the bite of a demon is spreading through her body, letting the supernatural bleed into the world around her, and the now-dead serial killer is waiting to take over her body if she dies.

Hoping to contain the damage, Hazel moves to a small house in a remote location. She figures she'll stay on her own until she gets a handle on her new dark reality, but she soon finds out that she's not alone. There's the reporter demanding answers, the friendly neighbor with chemistry she doesn't need and problems he can't talk about…and the mysterious face she sees beyond her window, watching her every night with glowing red eyes.

Making her hunger.

Hazel knew a little bit about the world beyond the physical. Now she's learning how much she doesn't know, including who she can trust...and who she can become if she trusts herself enough to give in to the shadows stalking her dreams.

A medium gets lured into a sham exorcism so a dying serial killer can use her as bait. She gets “bit” by a demon and slowly the otherside begins to morph with her reality.

‘Want Me, Take Me, Haunt Me, Make Me’ (mouthful i know), follows Hazel, a medium, as she tries to figure out what the hell she’s supposed to do about her situation as she’s become a conduit for essentially the supernatural. Hazel’s an easy character to root for, has a dry sarcastic humor and a maturity to her.

I’m always a sucker for psychological horror romance, the more insane the better, and I love when a plot has the character’s reality distorting. I had no idea how much this would delve into romance, but it takes up a lot of the plot. (Note, there is explicit sexual content in this book btw)

I felt this story didn’t need to be as long as it was, the plot felt a bit bloated with extra scenes when I wanted more ghost/demon conflicts. The first 25% (primarily Part 1) was exciting, I was hooked by the conflict and thought it held a lot of promise. Part 2 slowed down for me and trudged along in a fashion I sadly didn’t enjoy. I was expecting this to be more horror-esq, less of relationship building between Hazel and the love interest. It felt like this became a whole new story on its own and sadly, it lost my attention.

Thank you to the author and the publisher, Sourcebooks Casablanca, for sharing an ARC of this book with me on NetGalley!!

“The house didn’t look haunted, but few of them ever did”

“Every life has risk. We all hurt, we all die. Might as well get some enjoyment out of our time here”

A medium. A hunting demon. A cute neighbour. A mystery I couldn’t wait to unravel. I loved loved loved this book !!! What a marvellous story. What an intriguing plot line. What enchanting characters. And such a dark and brooding and crazy and interesting MMC, I simply couldn’t help but love him. It was funny. It was spicy. It was action packed and it was intense. It was one of the best ghost stories I have read in a while and one of the best romances. Every second was a marvel. Every chapter was a mystery and every dynamic between the characters was enjoyable. It had really no faults in my eyes. There was not a moment I doubted I would have given this book five stars. And the aesthetic and gothic vibes of a medium working side by side with a demon who was sent to spy on her … dang it, that will always get my attention! Everything was delivered so masterfully by the author that I honestly can’t help but wanting more !!!!

“He doubted that would end well, but he couldn’t regret it”

“The world outside went away completely. Even better, for a few seconds, he did too”

“And if you can’t … I’ll still have been more fortunate than I ever could have imagined”

Want Me, Take Me, Haunt Me, Make Me • Isabel Crowley

One phrase: haunted, hungry, and demon kissed 🖤👻

“The house didn’t look haunted, but few of them ever did.”

This book had me hooked immediately.

A medium trying to survive the aftermath of a seance gone very, very wrong? A dead serial killer with a demonic contract waiting to steal her body? A remote house that absolutely does not feel safe? A mysterious watcher outside her window with glowing red eyes?

Yes. All of it. Immediately.

Hazel Lewis has always known there is more to the world than what most people can see, but after escaping a supernatural trap with a demon bite spreading through her body, she is forced into a much darker reality. She moves somewhere remote hoping to contain the damage, but of course isolation never means peace in a story like this.

Because she is not alone.

There is a reporter digging for answers, a cute neighbor with chemistry she definitely does not need, and something darker stalking the edges of her life and dreams.

What I loved most was the atmosphere. This book is gothic, eerie, intense, and full of that “something is watching from the dark” tension that makes you keep turning pages. The haunted house vibes, supernatural mystery, and demon presence all worked so well together.

And the romance? Deliciously dark.

The MMC is brooding, dangerous, strange, and completely fascinating in that “I should probably be scared but I need to know more” kind of way. His dynamic with Hazel had such good tension. Medium working alongside a demon who was sent to spy on her? Obsessed.

This had humor, spice, action, mystery, horror, and romance all wrapped into one wild little supernatural spiral. Every chapter gave me another question I needed answered, and I loved watching Hazel figure out who she could trust while also learning what she might become if she stops running from the shadows.

✨ Tropes and vibes:
👻 medium FMC
😈 demon MMC energy
🏚 haunted house vibes
🔮 seance gone wrong
🖤 paranormal romance
👀 mysterious watcher
🌙 gothic atmosphere
🔥 spicy tension
🩸 supernatural horror
🕯 dark mystery
🏡 remote house setting
💀 serial killer curse

📚 Read this if you like:
Paranormal romance with horror vibes, haunted houses, demons with broody energy, mediums, gothic mysteries, and books where the romance feels as dangerous as the haunting.

This was spooky, sexy, intense, and so much fun.

I devoured this book. I had such a hard time putting it down, and when I did, it consumed my thoughts. It was incredibly intriguing, and the strange situation alone was enough to grab me. Hazel is a medium, hired by a dying man to do a séance and winds up getting attacked by demons. As a result, Hazel finds herself slipping in and out of material reality and in grave danger. I loved Hazel. She's very shrewd, and a multifaceted character that is both brave and terrified, resilient and breakable. She was great. Ligat was fun, and I loved watching his arc unfold. The first half of the novel had heavy emphasis on horror, and Ligat can be a very spooky dude. Maxwell stole my heart. He's not actually a little guy, but this nerd is a certified Little Guy to me. Honestly, all of the characters were great.

If there's one word I would use to describe this book it would be visceral. Every action scene, whether it be a haunting, a fight, or a sex scene is a full body experience. Crowley's ability to set a mood, to create and atmosphere, and engage multiple senses makes everything feel real, even when what's being described is more surreal than anything. The scene with the floral wallpaper is going to live in my head rent free soley because of the sound. A lot of the gore in this is gross, but in the way gore is supposed to be gross. It's not over-the-top just for the sake of it. It is weird, though.

One thing I enjoyed was that not everything is spelled out for the reader. Characters will do things, make plans, and keep secrets without the reader knowing, and honestly it was refreshing. I knew where some of it was going, but there is a certain enjoyment in not having things confirmed until the characters act. I like when I don't know everything, it adds to the tension and raises the stakes (even though these stakes really couldn't be higher).

This was a great read. I had a lot of fun reading it, and it hit on so many of my favorite tropes. It's not a genre changer, but it knows what it wants to do and does it well. The book was solid from beginning to end, especially when it was stressing me out.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC that made this review possible.

Hazel is a medium, showing up for what she believes to be just another job. Instead, her world is turned upside down, and her life is now in danger.

With the clock ticking, she will need to find a way to save herself and potentially the surrounding community. She expects this to be a challenge, but what she doesn't expect is to befriend (maybe more) an enemy who ends up proving to be more than just an ally.

This was an enjoyable enough read, but didn't become a favorite. The world-building in this book is absolutely wonderful, interesting, and unique. I loved learning all about these aspects of the story!

The characters fell a bit flat to me. Their backgrounds were briefly hinted at, but nothing too in-depth was discussed or shown. I was interested enough in the characters to keep reading, but I didn't fall in love with any of them.

The story held my interest, and I was curious to see how things would work out. However, I thought that the pacing was a little off because there were numerous sections in the middle of the book that felt really slow and started to lose my attention.

The romance aspect was fine, but I felt that it started fairly out of the blue, and it felt deeper than what I expected. Maybe it was because I wasn't as connected to the characters that the depth of the relationship felt a bit off?

I also thought the ending seemed a wee bit anti-climactic. Don't get me wrong - there's action, drama and all that good stuff, but it just felt like there was such a long lead-up to it, and then it was over pretty quickly.

All of this to say, I did enjoy reading the book, and I think I would recommend it if it sounds interesting to you. If this became a series, I might even read it as an easy, fun read.

Thank you to Sourcebooks Casablanca and Netgalley for the opportunity to read an ARC.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the e-arc!!

This is described as being 'The Conjuring but spicy' and that's perhaps as spot-on as marketing could ever be. This paranormal romance is at times both bone-chilling and gruesome, stubbed tongues and severed hands a necessity, while also having some tantalizing romantic and sexual tension. Isabel Crowley balances plot and romance with deft ease here, never letting one overpower the other. Her writing style is admittedly a bit awkward at times, but it's so fully committed to what it's describing that it's hard to find full faults with it, even if some sentences are clunky and it has one too many pop culture references stuffed into it.

Hazel is a delightful heroine. As confident and at times vulnerable as the iconic Lorraine Warren, it's amazing to read about someone so self-assured in her abilities. Hazel is whip smart, and I love a heroine that schemes and plans and researches. Do I wish we had gotten a more in depth exploration of her childhood? Yes. But for what this novel was, it works.

Ligat was a really fun foil and match for Hazel. His POV was an unexpected delight. Similarly to Hazel, he's confident yet vulnerable, and ultimately really fun to read about in all his duality.

The plot is a delightful supernatural romp. There are some full on horror scenes (the hand!) that scratch the itch I have for something creepy and gruesome. I would call it paced averagely - not too slow, but it's not progressing at breakneck speed either.

The few side characters we have are great. They're not fully fleshed out, but they really serve their purposes well!

For the romance, it's just fun. The tension simmers just right, and although it's not a slow-burn by any means, there's still some angst to it. I won't say it changed my life, but it was just so fun to read.

And that's ultimately what this book was for me. Just so much fun! I'm eager to see what Isabel Crowley does next :)

Want Me, Take Me, Haunt Me, Make Me can be in your hands when it comes out August 11th!

Hazel Lewis is a medium hired to conduct a seance for an old man on his deathbed. But she doesn’t know that the seance is a trap and the man is actually a serial killer who has made a deal with a demon to take over her body and continue his destruction once she dies.

The book was written in the third person, with some chapters focusing on Hazel’s POV and others on the demon’s right-hand man, Ligat's POV. I loved the book’s supernatural aspect and Hazel’s investigations into her own case. The paranormal part of the book was inventive and very well written, and I couldn’t stop reading.

It would have been interesting to know more about Hazel’s backstory and how she knew she was a medium. It was only touched on and never really explored, but if the author revisits this character, it could be interesting.

I appreciated the romance, but I wish it had been more longing and more of a build-up in the romance part of the story, but that might just be my personal preference in a romance book. I wasn’t really sold on Ligat as a love interest, but that might be related to the fact that I didn’t like how quickly the romance moved, since I like more of a slow burn.

When I read the book's description, I think what drew me in was that it was a different kind of romance, with horror and paranormal elements. The magic world was detailed, and the author certainly delivered and met my expectations. This would be a great book for a romance fan looking to explore the horror genre. Isabel Crowley has a great writing style, and I’ll definitely be checking out their next book.

This was such an enjoyable read from start to finish. I was genuinely hooked from the very first chapter and found myself constantly looking forward to picking it back up whenever I had a spare moment.

One of my favourite things about this book was Hazel. She was so confident in herself and knew who she was, which felt incredibly refreshing to read. It's always nice to see a female main character who doesn't spend the entire book doubting herself, and Hazel's confidence made her easy to root for.

I also really enjoyed the relationship between the FMC and MMC. Their dynamic was fun, engaging, and felt natural. They came into each other's lives at exactly the right time, and watching their connection develop was one of the highlights of the story. Their interactions had a great balance of chemistry, emotion, and lighter moments that kept me invested.

The pacing was another strong point for me. The story moved quickly without feeling rushed, and there was always enough happening to keep me interested. While the plot wasn't overly complicated, it didn't need to be. It had enough development and progression to keep things engaging, while staying focused on the story it wanted to tell rather than becoming overly convoluted.

Overall, this was a really enjoyable read that kept me entertained throughout. If you're looking for a book with a confident FMC, great character dynamics, and a fast-paced storyline that keeps you turning the pages, I'd definitely recommend giving this one a try

This was moderately enjoyable. When I first started reading this book, I had to double check that there was actually going to be romance because the first 15 to 20% was extremely action packed and leaned heavily into horror. Overall, the story was enjoyable, but the romance itself felt underdeveloped. There was a strong insta-lust dynamic, but it was never really clear why the two main characters were so drawn to each other. There was very little emotional build up before they jumped into spicy scenes. That said, there were plenty of spicy moments throughout the book, though they never felt overly gratuitous.

The strongest part of the story was definitely the worldbuilding. The way the author intertwined demons, the dead, and mortals into one cohesive system was intricate and genuinely clever, and I found that aspect far more compelling than the romance itself.

My biggest issue was with the characterization. The main character did not feel especially unique or fully developed, and honestly, that applied to most of the cast. There were not many side characters, and while they did not play huge roles in the story, they still could have benefited from more depth and personality. I also figured out the plot twist very early on, so it did not have much impact by the time it was revealed.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

Thank you to Netgalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the ARC!

I’m a sucker for a book that might actually be a horror romance. Although this isn’t exactly that, it was pretty dang close. I’d consider this one a paranormal romance first, but with some horror sprinkled in. Honestly, the first chunk of the story has some pretty horrific moments (but I like that in a book). There’s this whole thing with flowered wallpaper that did wig me out a little. Not like nightmare scary but def something that will live rent free in my head for a while.

One thing I really did love about this one was the world building. The author created something I hadn’t read before and props to that considering the sheer number of books I read. Also, bonus points for having a lead character over 30. Hazel was someone I could relate to even though she was an accountant by day (and a medium by night) which is so not my jam. The male lead was also interesting and I liked getting to see what his whole situation was. The romance was fairly solid (if a little rushed) with a fair amount of spice (but not so much is boring or lame).

Overall, this was a fun read and I’m curious if there may be further books in this world. I’d be pretty stoked if that’s a thing. And if you’re looking for a spooky paranormal romance, I’d give this one a whirl.

'Want Me, Take Me, Haunt Me, Make Me' by Isabel Crowley mixes elements of multiple genres, including horror, dark romance, and mystery to create somehign that will make your heart race and will stick with you long after you finish the last page. Our main character, Hazel, falls into a trap when she agrees to perform a seance for a client. The client turns out to be a serial killer with a contract with Hell. Hazel is alive but ends up cursed by demonic forces beyond her control. She's infected, and her reality is warping. The supernatural is merging into reality around her. This book is filled with tension and a slow creeping dread that something is very, very wrong. Hazel feels like she is losing control as the demonic influence spreads and feels like she isn't alone and being watched. Is it just paranoia, or can she not trust anyone? The pace is quick and grabs you at the beginning. The middle slows down a bit but still keeps its hooks in you, and the end speeds back up. This book keeps a constant tension in the reader. There is a constant sense of isolation and fear, and it just works!
Im giving this book 3.5 out of 4 stars, rounded down. I received this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for my opinion.

Want Me, Take Me, Haunt Me, Make Me is a fun read if you enjoy paranormal horror mixed with demons and ghosts. Our world is laced with the supernatural through the protagonist Hazel Lewis who is a medium. The story takes readers immediately into the action in a work call gone wrong. It is interesting to see her navigate this new danger in a manner that I think is natural. She gives ‘final girl’ energy and I am here for it. At certain points of the plot, I was pleasantly reminded of Coraline, Alice in Wonderland, and The Conjuring and I think that has to do with Crowley’s writing style and its ability to seamlessly create a thrilling atmosphere.

This story has multiple POVs and the other POV that readers are introduced to make me enjoy the MMC more than simply basing him off of Hazel’s POV. At some points, their connection to one another is slow and I didn’t feel the chemistry as much as I would have liked except through specific scenes. Though I did like his character ARC and development as the plot progresses. Speaking of which, the pacing dramatically improves towards the climax and I feel fully transported into the story.

I truly enjoyed this book, even though it was a bit of a journey for me. At times, the pacing felt a little slow, and I found myself struggling to push through certain sections, but the overall experience was absolutely worth it.
The opening of the story was fantastic, and I deeply appreciated the "slow burn" approach. What really set this book apart for me was the strong focus on the horror elements; it didn’t just rely on the romance but created a genuinely eerie and unsettling atmosphere. That said, when the romantic payoff finally arrived, it was incredibly satisfying and well-earned.
One of my favorite aspects was the aura of mystery surrounding every character. They don’t fully explain their motives or reasons, which kept me constantly guessing and intrigued. The vibe of the writing reminded me slightly of Anne Rice’s style… though the plot is completely different, it captured that same dark, atmospheric, and haunting essence that I love.
This is definitely a book I would have purchased for my own collection, and I highly recommend it to those who like their romance with a heavy, mysterious dose of horror.

This book was intense, unsettling, and completely addictive in a way that kept me turning the pages even when I wasn’t entirely sure how I felt about what I was reading. The atmosphere was dark and consuming, and the writing had this almost hypnotic quality that pulled me deeper into the story with every chapter.
What stood out most to me was how emotionally raw the characters felt. Their relationships were messy, obsessive, and often uncomfortable, but that’s also what made the story so compelling. Isabel Crowley really leans into the darker emotional elements, and while it won’t work for every reader, it definitely creates a memorable reading experience.
There were moments where the pacing felt uneven for me, and some parts could have used a little more development, but overall this was such a haunting and atmospheric read. If you enjoy darker romances with obsessive dynamics, emotional intensity, and a slightly surreal edge, this one will probably pull you in.

*Want Me, Take Me, Haunt Me, Make Me* by Isabel Crowley was such an interesting and enjoyable read. I really liked the way the story explored demons and mortals, and how every character was pushed to make difficult choices when they were desperate or in need. The book beautifully shows how those choices slowly shape who they become.

The dark atmosphere, emotional conflicts, and supernatural elements kept me hooked throughout. What stood out the most was the emotional depth beneath all the chaos and danger. Watching the characters struggle between desire, survival, and humanity made the story feel far more layered than just a typical paranormal romance.

And that ending — seeing the demon finally crumble while still getting a happy ending for Maxwell and Hazel felt satisfying at the same time. Overall, it was a good read with strong emotions, intriguing supernatural themes, and characters whose journeys stayed with me even after finishing the book.

This should have been a DNF. It was extremely underwhelming and could have put me to sleep at a few points.

The plot was interesting, if maybe a little messy, but the writing was dry, was slow paced and felt entirely too long. There were scenes and details that literally contributed absolutely nothing to the plot and just felt like filler to bump the page count.

I absolutely HATED several of these people’s names. I could overlook the side characters but spending 70% of the story calling the MMC something that sounds like gaging up a hairball should be illegal.

The FMC had zero personality. ZERO. She ranked at the level of wet cardboard.

The build up to the romance felt very drawn out. The two characters don’t even properly meet until 31% into the story.

And then the final battle was like the last 5% of the story and then BOOM, over

Hazel is a medium who gets called to conduct a seance for a man, Clarence Chapman, who’s on his deathbed. All hell breaks loose, Hazel is bitten by a demon and finds she was lured to the house to be used as bait to fulfill Clarence’s demonic contract. Hazel then finds she’s a conduit for spirits in the “ethereal,” as a result of the demon bite. Hazel can see beyond the physical world, experiences strange occurrences and has to learn which spirits in the ethereal can be trusted. The first part of the story focused more on the supernatural, while the second part was focused on the relationship she forms with the spirits. Hazel was an enjoyable, witty main character, as was Maxwell, but I feel it was a bit long and some parts could’ve been cut out. The premise and title of this book immediately grabbed my attention and had me requesting an early copy. That excitement definitely stayed with me but I ended up struggling with the pacing.

At times, the first half and second half felt like two completely different books. One leaning into supernatural thriller territory and the other shifting toward romantasy. I enjoy both genres but the blend didn't quite work for me and made the story feel slower than I expected.

That said, the writing itself was strong and the overall storyline remained engaging enough to keep me invested. While this wasn't quite what I was hoping for, it was still a solid read.

I'll absolutely be picking up this author's future releases because I really enjoyed their writing style and perspective. This one just wasn't the perfect fit for me.

Debut author Crowley places a steamy romance inside of a horror story in this book about a woman dealing with the consequences of and exorcism gone wrong. Paranormal elements including hauntings and demons shape the setting and plot. However, the romantic relationship between Hazel, a human exorcist in her mid-thirties who is sort of turning into a portal to hell, and Ligat, an inhuman entity serving the demon who wants to kill Hazel to unleash that portal, is the emotional core of this story. While they may be stuck in a horrifying situation, their romance is actually kind of sweet. Action-packed and mildly gory, Want Me, Take Me, Haunt Me, Make Me is a unique addition to the growing genre of romantic horror. Suggested for people who enjoyed Supernatural (the TV show).

This book was a fun, quick read with a hefty dose of horror and tortured romance. All the details about the ethereal world and the magic rituals were fascinating, and the descriptions of the spooky creatures and demons were deliciously vivid and gross (definitely a compliment). Both main characters were well fleshed out and the romance between them was both sweet and steamy. I really enjoyed that the plot never felt like just a backdrop for the romance and was well-paced and satisfying in its own right. I also loved the side characters, especially Summer and Casper.

A medium finds herself in a sticky situation when she’s hired to do a seance in a home with a creepy AF dude who’s apparently dying. During the seance she’s attacked by a demon and finds out that the dying dude actually set her up and is sacrificing her to said demon! She escaped but now she’s trying to figure out HTF she’s supposed to survive with a demon, a demon’s (sexy) minion and monsters chasing her!

After reading this book I can tell you that I fell in love with a pile of sticks (what??? You’ll see), a ghost dog and of course the MMC.

This story has gothic horror (gave me the creeps!), action, heat + spice AND romance! I loved every second.

Thank you for opportunity to read this book early! Thank you for the ARC!

I have to say the title really pulled me in to what I wanted the story to be. I mean, it sounds like a book that I would love! Sadly I could not get into it!
A medium ends up moving to a small town to be alone, oh, and this is after she is trapped by a serial killer to do a seance. She ends up with a demonic contract, and new neighbors that seem to want more than just being friendly. She takes learning this new world one step at a time, of course at the same time as being haunted!

I have to say this book was not for me, but everyone is different! It look me much longer to get thorough this book than usual because it was not pulling me in like I hoped.

This took me a bit longer than usual to read. I kind of struggled with the writing style. I don’t mind books written in third person POV, but I really struggled to connect with the story. Despite my struggles though, I found Hazel to be an interesting character and I kind of enjoyed that she was a medium. She was a lot different than the FMCs I usually read. I think I would have enjoyed this more if there was more balance between the horror, the paranormal and the romance. I found myself lost sometimes trying to make sense of the different plot lines and keeping track of the characters.

It’s peculiar because I had anticipated a dark romance, but this turned out to be an unexpectedly heartwarming and delightful story. I didn’t mind it at all. Be warned, though, it’s a slow burn. The romance is sweet and not overpowering. The chemistry between the characters is palpable, and their banter is incredibly charming. I couldn’t help but kick my feet and giggle throughout the entire story. I highly recommend it. 4 stars.

This was not what I was expecting.

This has a seance, a serial killer, and demonic bargains. What fun!

This is horror with a touch of romance, but they didn't feel equally developed. I think more from the characterization would have helped a lot with that.

But this was a pretty quick read overall. And I stayed fairly interested and entertained.

Thanks to NetGalley for the e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!

This was a fun story. I really liked the worldbuilding surrounding Hazel being a medium, ghosts, demons and all of that stuff. The romance was very instalove and I would have liked to see their connection deepened out more. If the blurb sounds interesting to you definitly pick it up because it is a good time!

I'm not sure what I was anticipating here, but it definitely was not the reality of what I got! I thought, going in there would be a lot of horror/suspense- and there was some, but also a lot of insta love dynamic time that didn't fully land for me. Overall, this was a fine time! But the pacing felt uneven and I wanted more of a focus on the horror elements.

Thank you so much @sourcebookscasa for this eArc!

OK, loved this concept- a medium and a demon. The actual story line itself was great, it was dark and mysterious. At the same time spicy and hilarious.

It is 3rd person POV and I think that led to a lot of my confusion while reading- there is so much going on in this story that I just got lost and had to go back and re-read.

But, the story, characters, mystery- all of it was fantastic- 4 stars
