I've been thrown out of a plane and dropped on an island full of gorgeous, massive men.

Did I mention that said men are all magical fae guys competing for the right to marry me?

Yeah, it's a mess.

Every man on the island has the same two

Defeat his competitors, and win my heart.

Luckily, I know one of the guys.

We're not exactly friends, but I can kind of trust him.

Working together secretly, we have to keep the truth hidden and play the game alongside everyone else… because there's no way off this island without becoming someone's mate.

🌴Bookish Thoughts
I was sold on this book the second I realized it was basically a magical reality show where the Fae compete to win a human mate. Instant yes. Lola Glass has officially become an auto buy author for me, and this book only made me love her even more. I had such a good time with this story and I am already planning to binge the rest of the series as soon as possible.

As for the audiobook, do yourself a favor and listen to it. I loved the narrators!

This book was fast fun and full of drama. I devoured this book in a day and left NO crumbs. With my love of reality tv and Romantasy, I should have just dived right in. I was a little hesitant to try it though, if I'm honest. I haven't ever read anything that combined reality tv with Romantasy, but it did NOT disappoint.

Humans had nearly ended the world with nuclear warfare, but Fae came out of hiding and changed the fate of the world. In exchange for saving the world, the Fae required that every female's blood be tested for compatibility, and if they are compatible with Fae, then they are required to participate in a season of the Bachelorette or Survivor-Bachelorette before their 25th birthday.

Molly May is just shy of her 25th birthday, and she has absolutely no interest in being mated to a Fae male, but she has no choice. A Fae male guard has been assigned to her as soon as Fae took over the world, Mac, and she's has been waiting until she can't wait anymore to be forced into playing the Bachelorette. Little does she know, she won't be in a nice comfy mansion, but stranded on a remote island with any number of un-mated Fae males in the Survivor version of the Fae Bachelorette. Apparently, some of the older un-mated Fae males didn't want to compete in a comfy mansion, but rather in the grueling conditions of a remote island.

I ate this book up. With the combination of reality tv shows and a pack of ultra possessive Fae males? I was done for.

Every second of this book was males going out of their way to be nice to her and try and show her how good a life with them would be. The stakes were even higher, because Fae males fade away/die if they don't find a mate after a certain number of years. All of the males on Molly's show are near the end of allotted unmated years. Highly recommend for all Romantasy readers and Reality tv show watchers.

Themes/Tropes:

Rating : 5 STARS

The perfect length for a romance novel!!
->Review<-
I ATE this book up! Lola Glass's books fill a romance void I didn't know I had. As a major romance reader, she has quickly placed in my top authors list. The angst is top-notch given the circumstances (The main character Molly "Lolli" is on a survivor-style game show where the winner is her future mate), and like most of Lola's new series, you can find which characters will be featured in the next book.

My biggest dislike with this book is that Lolli didn't want any of this? By the end of the book, Lolli BARELY accepts her fate to be tied to Cameron, because he makes decisions HE thinks are good for her, without consulting her and her feelings. This was a hard pill for me to swallow, but overall Cameron does have good intentions, just possessive..

I hope that in the next book, we get to see a bit of Lolli and Cam down the road and a glimpse into their developing relationship. This is something Glass has done in her previous books and one of my favorite features!

Overall, you can't go wrong with buying this book! And you'll likely have to buy it from Amazon (only like $4 <- SO WORTH IT). I guarantee you, once you read one book, you'll be reading all of her books!!

Cute and Short Read!

The storyline is a love game show that's a mix of the Bachelorette and Survivor. Women who can be matched with Fae are sent to this remote island with the competing Fae men to find out who will be her mate.

This book is a simple storyline. There isn't a lot of character development, complicated plot or twists. It's a simple and cute read but definitely a read you have to go into managing your expectations so that you aren't disappointed. I had an opportunity to complete an immersive read on this book and despite its simplicity, I still enjoyed the story. The narrators do a great job delivering a clean storyline and making Molly and Cam entertaining. I do wish we had more storyline and time to connect with the characters. I didn't feel a strong connection to any character in the story and was just going along for the ride.

I'd consider this book to be what I would call a palate cleanser (A book you read when you are trying to get out of a slump and need something different). Short, sweet, and cute but not for everyone.

This book was basically Survivor x Bachelorette, but make it fae. There was barely any character development or challenges, so I think it’s safe to say that the story was accessory to the smut. It’s still somewhat entertaining, but I think there’s better options out there (even from this author). I won’t be continuing this series.

Romantasy / Urban Fantasy / Faes / Reality Show

Love the Bachelorette/Survivor mash-up vibes! Big, broody fae men, wild competitions, and all the chaos I could ask for. The drama? The tension? The banter? Chef’s kiss! 🧑‍🍳💋 I had such a blast with this one — Molly and Cam totally stole my heart!

Amazing concept, slightly missed the mark. But a fun read!

Lola Glass never disapoints me!
I loved this concept! It was so fun! This would have definitely been a 5 star read if I felt there was a little more stakes for Molly and had better pacing at the end as the plot of the book basically ended at the 75% mark. I wish she'd been involved in the challenges, or that the show switched up at the end for some more drama and they found each other despite it.
Because although their relationship was pretty adorable, I felt we missed a chunk of their friendship, and what brought them together as it happened before the book. And then suddenly they're in love.
If Molly had to partake in the challenges it would have added some more interest cause the plot was an awesome concept, but just lacked the action part of survivor as we never actually experienced any of the trials.
As always the writing was really easy and enjoyable. Loved the dual POV. Usually Im not a fan of a series of standalones, but I want to go back for Rhett's story!

This whole series is perfect if you’re in a book slump.

It’s campy cozy Survivor-esque romance with a good amount of spice.

Reality show/supernatural is one of my favourite tropes.

If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if Survivor met The Bachelor with a sprinkle of magic and a dash of steamy romance, Lust & Lollipops by Lola Glass is the answer—and it's an adventure you won’t want to miss.

Imagine being thrown out of a plane onto an island where every single man is a gorgeous, magical fae competing for the ultimate prize: your hand in marriage. That's exactly the situation our heroine finds herself in, and let me tell you, it’s a wild ride from start to finish.

What drew me into this book right away was the unique premise. The stakes are high, the tension is palpable, and the setting is as enchanting as it is dangerous. Each fae man on the island has his own charm and magical abilities, making the competition fierce and unpredictable. And while our heroine is thrust into this bizarre and chaotic situation, she handles it with a mix of humor, resilience, and cleverness that made her an incredibly likable and relatable protagonist.

One of the highlights for me was the relationship between the heroine and the one fae she already knows. It’s not a simple friendship, but their shared history adds depth to the story and keeps you rooting for them as they navigate the challenges together. Their alliance is both a source of strength and a potential complication, as they must hide their true feelings and intentions while playing the game to survive.

Lola Glass does a fantastic job of balancing the intense competition with moments of levity and romance. The chemistry between the characters is electric, and the gradual build-up of their connection is both satisfying and swoon-worthy. The magical elements add an extra layer of intrigue, making the island feel like a living, breathing character in its own right.

Lust & Lollipops is a perfect read if you’re looking for something fun, steamy, and utterly captivating. The blend of magic, romance, and competition is done so well that you’ll find yourself flipping through the pages, eager to see how it all ends. And rest assured, Lola Glass delivers a happily ever after that will leave you with a smile on your face.

If you enjoy stories with strong, resourceful heroines, swoon-worthy fae men, and a plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat, this book is a must-read. I can’t wait to see what other adventures this series has in store!.

I mean... the sheer fun ridiculousness of these this series had me so hooked, I read all three of them (this, [[Glamour & Gumballs- Glass]] and [[Heat & Hard Candies- Glass]]) in two days.

As usual with Lola Glass, the worldbuilding is... vague. Humans were about to destroy each other in a nuclear war when the fae revealed themselves and stepped in. Now everyone lives in peace, with the price being that women get their blood tested to see if they are compatible to be fae mates. These compatible women are then given a bodyguard and assigned living, their careers not really taking off because everything in their life is temporary until they find a mate and then their lives change.

And, as a cherry on top, the way they typically find their mate is fae Bachelorette, a human classic rebooted in this post-war world. Out FMC Molly is expecting, reluctantly, to be the next Bachelorette, but instead she is pushed out a plane and dumped on a desert island with a bunch of fae males competing for her attention in a wild Survivor style twist. With Survival of the Mated, the men compete in challenges for rewards and vote each other off, so not only is Molly stranded on an island instead of a mansion, but she has very little say in who makes it to the final three where then and only then, will she have an official say in who she chooses.

In this world, mates for the fae aren't fated in the soulmate fashion, but it happens when two people choose each other. But, the twist is that fae aren't immortal until they have a mate. They live to be about 300 years old before fading away if they don't have a partner. So finding someone, anyone, to be their mate in order to not die is a top priority for many of these men.

Molly isn't happy about being used in this way. But fate has a twist when she lands on the island and sees a familiar face... Cameron, her bodyguard for the past four years. They didn't talk much about their lives but they would bicker for fun and he would make her breakfast... and now he is determined to show her that she is his mate. She's not sure about that, but she does trust him more than the rest of the random men on the beach. The only problem? They have to get Cam to the end of the competition without anyone realizing that he is a threat. Cue the shenanigans.

It's fun. It's ridiculous. It's romantic. It's an homage to Survivor in a way I never would have expected. Probably my favorite series of Lola Glass's yet.

🏝️ Molly-May?? Is Lola Glass a Love Island fan? 👀

Being dropped on an island with a bunch of hot fae male competing to wife me up? Hell yeeeeh

📜We get a little bit of backstory that there was a war or summit (Earth going to shit) and fae came out on top and for them to sort out the clusterfuck that is earth - compatible humans have to pair up and be mated to the fae.

If the fae don’t mate they perish when they get to a certain age 😮 BUT not all chicks are physiologically compatible tho they need a a wee test to see if are compatible and if they are, mate a make and become fae themselves.

I’ll let you listen to the audio for HOW they become fae 😏

ANYWAY wee Molly-May is one of those lucky females (not that she thinks so she’s pure livid) and she gets punted onto this island reminiscent of Survivor where the males perform challenges, get to know her and try to win her heart. She’ll choose her guy at the end.

👤Gonna cover characters first - I really liked them all! Molly was annoyed to be there but accepted her fate and she wasn’t overly annoyingly sassy but had a bit of cheek to her. Really liked Cammy and even Kyle while being a douche didn’t wind me up toooo much.

📜Requested Lust and Lollipops coz u love a bit of fantasy smut especially on audio 👌🏼 and I actually really loved this idea of it being like a reality dating show (I went bawz deep on love island during covid lockdown but don’t watch it anymore and I’ve never seen Bachelorette or Survivor)

I also liked that the males had different magical abilities and well canny go wrong with wings and horns 🫦

I enjoyed the dialogue and it was a fun fast listen - definitely had a giggle at times. Also the spicy scenes were NOICE 🌶️ 🪽

📊Unfortunately the execution overall was a bit lacking in terms of being on the island and the game show over all - I’d have LOVED for the challenges to be more in depth and detailed. Could have really been fun.

I also felt like the male winner was determined way too early so stakes weren’t really high - it was done well in a way but kinda took away the suspense

I definitely want a bit more of the world building to do with how the world and these shows are run, assuming the next book follows a different couple u hope that even in passing it will talk about how things have maybe changed or progressed in the world.

MORE CHALLENGES PLZZZZ

🥡Had a fun time with this one and would consider continuing onto book 2 but just hope there’s a little more to offer from the game itself

Probably the best part of the book for me - when Molly is snarky to the contestants

"I’m not giving anyone anything for keeping all of us alive. You bastards knew what you were signing up for when you joined this show. I didn’t. I’m not considering anyone who doesn’t contribute as a potential mate."

Me after this book:

Lust & Lollips or Survival of the Mated by Lola Glass follows Molly “Lolli” as she navigates a survivor-style fae mating TV gameshow. The prize? Her hand in mating.
This was a quick, easy read with some fun moments and decent steam. However, the romance left me cold, and the lack of connection between the main characters hurt the story’s impact.

What I liked:
The concept—a supernatural dating survival game—was unique, and I appreciated the mix of humor and fantasy. It had the potential to be a light-hearted yet exciting twist on both dating shows and paranormal romance.

What Didn't work:
Lack of Choice: Molly’s agency in choosing her mate felt limited, which clashed with her otherwise strong personality.

Hero’s Behavior: The hero’s actions and motivations made it hard for me to root for their romance.

Relationship Dynamics: Despite knowing each other for years, Molly and her eventual partner lacked chemistry and emotional depth.

If you enjoy quick reads with some steamy moments and don’t mind a problematic romance, this book might work for you. For me, the lack of emotional depth and rushed resolution made it hard to connect with the story.

Part of the Survival of the Mated series where you might wish to be the one thrown out of the plane 😊 needless to say our girl is thrown out of a plane on to an island with a lot of beautiful men all willing to do what it takes to gain her hand in marriage that sums it up pretty much now if that don’t make you want to get comfortable and read this one until the last page is read. Each of our fae men on the island have their own charm, magic abilities, thus making the competition fierce also, extremely unpredictable now throw our girl into all of that and now we have a whole hot mess going but it is an addictive hot mess. But throw in her friends whom she is attracted to but they both have to play the game hide their feelings for one another to survive the game but will they survive, where are the players headed, what is the purpose of the game, what happens when she picks the man she wants will the others allow her to walk away, and where is it all headed hot mess and all?

Lust and lollipops de Lola Glass Serie Survival of the mated libro 1

Argumento:

3.5-4 stars, depending on what you are in the mood for. I have determined that Lola Glass is a must-read anytime I need a palate cleanser and series is no different. Not a deep read by any means,
just light spicy fun. Her Burning Kingdom series has more meat to it for sure.
I had the chance to listen to this one on audio (many thanks to rb media and net galley for the opportunity💕). The audio readers are enjoyable, especially the FMC read by Neva Nevarre. She had me immersed in the dialogue quickly.
The MMC could have benefitted from a stronger/deeper voiced reader, given his character. But this is actually my first audio book- is that common? Overall a fun read.

While I ADORE Lola Glass, this book was a 2 and not even 2.5 star read. Zero world building, dialogue that is so boring, action that didn't exist, and the most boring FMC I've maybe ever encountered. She seemed irredeemable and unintelligent. Even Insta Love made no sense for me here, just really disappointed and read like a hastily-written novella. Normally a 1 Click Author but I find this book to be an almost embarrassing attempt.

I think I am in the minority here. I didn't hate this book but I definitely did not love it and probably won't read the rest of the series.

I wanted Sherrilyn Kenyon or J.R. Ward type of Paranormal Romance.
Goodreads told me this may be it. Or at least someone did when they put it on the book list.
I thought it was too elementary and not enough to make me want to hang on and love the other characters.

Maybe in the future I will try the next in the series.

Good but needed more substance

SPOILERS*****

Molly is one of the few unfortunate women found to be genetically compatible with the fae. Women like her get a bodyguard and have their life high jacked by the expectation that they’ll fulfill a government treaty to provide the fae with mates. At 24, she’s on the older end of eligibility because compatibility starts decreasing after age 25 for reasons unexplained. She’s an orphan weary of the the fae government who lives every day dreading the chance that she’ll be picked for the newest season of “Bachelorette”. The fae compete for one human woman on national television and she has to mate FOR LIFE with her final choice.

Molly is picked for a new show, a rip off version of “survivor”, because she’s the best of the aging out human women. She has to rough it on a deserted island with a bunch of aggressive fae who need a mate to attain immortality but can’t be bothered to follow the rules the glitz, glam, and mansions “Bachelorette” rip off demands of them. The men will vote each other off on a weekly basis until she is forced to choose from the final three. Amongst these fae men is Molly’s court-appointed bodyguard of four years, who lied by omission about his intended participation.

This would be an interesting premise if the “love interests” had been further explored, especially since this is going to end up a series where several of them get their own book. Why did they not want to be on “Bachelorette”? What did they look like? We don’t know. The bodyguard immediately confesses he’s in love with Molly after spending four years in her company, and convinces her to pretend to hate him for his dishonesty so the other fae don’t see him as a threat and vote him out. She agrees when he promises to feel the other men out for a secondary option in case he’s eliminated so she doesn’t end up with someone terrible. He is well-liked and respected by the other fae for reasons unknown to Molly, and uses that to form alliances.

Once the premise is set, a majority of the book is Molly meeting with her bodyguard in secret to hook up while attempting to sabotage the other men. I couldn’t tell you how many men there were or what the issue was with half of them, but there are a few especially unsavory ones that make it quite far because in this game it pays to take the disliked rival to the end with you so you’re the only reasonable choice. Molly’s bodyguard initially acts like he has her best interest at heart, but eventually schemes to have her second choice voted off out of jealousy. All of the other reasonable people are voted off over time because they were too intelligent/suspicious of the bodyguard. He played it cool until the final three and then goes all caveman when there’s no way for the other men to vote him off. The bodyguard gives her a few placating words about knowing he was really the only choice, and she settles for him in the face of the remaining unsavory options.

The bodyguard is secretly the next leader of the fae and super powerful, he was being sneaky and underhanded the whole time because of reasons I skimmed through. Molly is an orphan and has bad experiences with the fae government, but allows their next leader to sweet talk her into mating with him based on the idea that she can change things from the top. Never mind that he’s lied to her from the first moment, admits these demeaning shows will likely continue either way, and hasn’t shown any evidence that he would be willing to treat her as an equal. The main antagonist jerk competitor shows a random spark of self-awareness that will lead to some sort of redemption arc in his own book later down the line. The next female contestant and fae she’ll end up with are cameo’d in at the end. The male fae love interest for next book is the rude and mostly absent host of the “survivor” show who threatened to leave Molly at the mercy of the contestants if she didn’t participate, so I wouldn’t hold my breath for any books boyfriends in this series.

That’s it. I already am uninterested in the rest of the series. It could have been so much more if there was an actual chance of her ending up with someone else or if she chose to disrupt the process by picking no one at the end. Decent short read if you don’t think too deeply about anything, though.
