This author is my college roommate's sister and I was excited to read her debut - especially since she writes one of my favorite genres!

This was a solid debut. I enjoyed the story and couldn't put it down. I really liked reading from multiple characters' perspectives and I thought it was interesting to add additional POVs as the novel progressed.

I really liked the underlying themes of women, and particularly women of color, not being listened to or taken seriously. I feel that the author handled this theme very well in the context of the story as a whole.

What didn't work 100% for me was the twist. I'll admit I didn't suspect it for a while but once I got it in my head I knew I was right. Still cleverly done though.

Lastly, there were some continuity and grammatical errors that took me out of the story a bit. In a couple of chapters she switched a character from speaking in the first person to being spoken of in the third person which I think should have been caught in editing...but as a first time publication I'm not going to hold it against her. It wasn't that big a deal at all - those things just really stand out to me as the child of 2 English teachers and I find them distracting. Truly, other readers may not even have noticed it.

All in all a good, fun thriller!

I believe this is a debut novel for this author and it was a good debut. I really enjoyed the first 75% of it - it was creepy, suspenseful, and I liked the dual timelines to gain backstory. I found the last quarter a bit too neatly tied up. There were some plot holes for me, some very unrealistic explanations for things. But overall I’d check out another book from this author.
