Overall, it was enjoyable. The setting was fresh, but there is a level of sameness to the enemies that makes me wish the MC escapes the planet sooner than later. Only so much you can do with dinosaurs.
The middle had a stretch that dragged on for too long, and I am hoping this series isn't just fight after fight.
A bit disappointing to not see much of a structure to the book, it is definitely a web novel as it doesn't really resolve anything before it's over. The small attempts at world building don't really go anywhere and the first hints of the outside world don't inspire much.
Will read the next in the hopes it expands its scope a bit and adds some variety.

Me encantó el ritmo de la historia ya que no es un libro introductorio y la información que lo rodea esta envuelta en misterio, centrándose en la acción y el crecimiento continuo de la protagonista.
Me animé a leer este formato ya que soy fan de las Novelas Web Chinas y Coreanas de Hunters y Reencarnados y esta pintaba al estilo que más me gusta, evoluciones/subidas de nivel de la MC; solo un detalle me gustaría para los siguientes libros y es el hecho que concluye de manera abrupta, sintiéndose como un fin de capítulo y no como fin de un libro (cliffhanger), me hizo pensar que inicio como una novela web.
🦖Protagonista:
Alex como MC se adapta rápido y se nota su edad (20 años) en sus interacciones, pero sobre todo el como no da vuelta sobre los secretos y se deja llevar sin ser una cabeza dura (no hay canas verdes), algo raro en los libros que he leído pero me gustó, y eso volvió la narración más fluida.
🥓Trama:
Simple, llena de acción con una protagonista que pelea diariamente con dinosaurios, sin mucho trasfondo en su pasado y bastante indiferente de lo que sucede a su alrededor (ella cazando, comiendo y creciendo), lo que hace que el misterio del mundo y porque terminaron ahí la raza humana no avance mucho.
En fin, voy con el segundo de la Devoradora vs Dinosaurios Alienígenas.

First off, cliff-hanger ending. To me, this is a cardinal sin of writers that should never ever be done.
I really struggled with this book. It starts simple enough, but then it devolves into a huge, long, drawn out, GRIND for last half of the book. Almost non-stop grind. Worse, most of it, the MC is solo, out in the wilds. Sure, that lets her level fast, but it's just boring. boring boring boring. Cool combat is one thing, but cool combat for 5 million pages is boring.
Also, because she's out solo in the wilds, there's not much interaction with anyone else. That's a contributing factor to boredom. And the way her class is defined, I gotta feeling it's gonna be rinse and repeat for some of the later books. Haven't read them yet, still not sure if I will.
Once she does hook up with others, it gets better, and more interesting.
It is a novel world, where tech meets magic, and magic wins (no surprise). And there are hints of better things to come.
Some of the minor quibbles I have with the book:
1. Strange phrasing, quote:
"Before I could really think about it, I moved forward after branding another tree. The smell and sound were connected."
you can't have it both ways, not thinking about it, and taking time to brand a tree.
2 Why didn't Hawk do ANYTHING other than say good-luck when she left?
Later, it's sorta maybe addressed, John gets mad. That's not the problem. Literally, she goes to leave and he's like "good luck?" doesn't offer to help, doesn't explain nothing, doesn't do anything but say good-bye. And it's not like he doesn't understand that the shuttle she's trying to save is critical to his very life!
3 Just how many vines did that flower have anyways?
4 Level intimidation inconsistencies?
While on a hunting party, with several others, the Compies weren't afraid. I'm pretty sure they had several high levels with them. But her later, solo lvl 11, they were.
Then even later, she complains they were attacking again
5 Tone and style switches up a lot. I can't explain, it just seemed to be switching
6 Pronoun plurality when writing about/for Noseen. And Noseen's about MC

This was outstanding!
Alex is such a great MC. She's inexperienced and clearly the doted upon youngest sister/daughter.
She's part of a group who crashlands on a planet that works like an RPG. Classes and professions can be gained. It does appear to depend on you undertaking the right activity for you specifically. So anyone could hunt, but not everyone would gain the hunter class for example.
We are clued in early that something isn't quite right with Alex though. She's the last one to gain a class. She's ALWAYS hungry. She keeps gaining skills in various different things before she even gets her class.
When she finally gains her class, its very much an oh no moment. You can just see that this is going to be incredibly hard for her going forwards despite how powerful it makes her.
I also don't think she clocked just how many stat points she's gaining compared to everyone else, as this doesn't appear to be something you can see atm when casting insight. I'm very interested to see just how overpowered she is compared to others in the next book (I Hope).
There appears to be some political shenanigans going on with one man determined to hold power maybe. There also appears to be something that kicks it at level 20, possibly a quest that takes them away from their safe zone?
I'm so eager to get to book 2.

Survive book one of the That Which Devours LitRPG Adventure series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). This was an unusual blend of sci-fi and LitRPG, and it was Very well done. Alex's family crashes on a prehistoric planet that has a "system." I was caught in the first chapter and devoured (hehe, little pun there, sorry) books 1-4 in a back-to-back spree that completely disregarded my busy schedule. Terrific starter and the series gets more complex and surprising in each installment.

Pacing seemed slow
Story seemed fine and I was interested in a different litRPG story. It was nice to not have it be a series of tropes, but the story was moving to slow. After reading 150ish pages and feeling like the last five pages had been descriptions of trees and leaves that didn't affect the story, I felt like I was wasting my time.

got to 8% in. it is supposed to be a stand alone story, but it just felt like I came in at book 2. Ok, great, lets skip all that boring world building crap, but the story just wasn't interesting enough to continue. I don't normally dnf this early, but I don't want to continue so...

a good surprise.
A different take on the LitRPG genre. Good pace, writing not bad, typos minimal if any, world view is different and exciting. I’m definitely reading the next one. I’m not fussed with statistics and they were minimal. Good job.

Nonstop progression and grit

Good stuff. I liked the writing, the story, and most importantly. I liked the MC. Smart and hard working.
