I’m a monster, a beast, a creature of shadow and legend, something children are warned about while they snuggle up by the cozy fire. I am cold, frigid, lifeless death. I’m Jack Frost.
Cursed to an eternity of wandering the woods, reaping the souls of worthless humans once every year, my existence is bathed in blood and isolation. Until her — my litill snær. Her presence in my woods brings light to the dead of Winter for the first time in a long time. But could she truly learn to love a beast?
Elisa
I hate Christmas. All these cheery, happy, nuclear families huddled around the fire make me nauseous. It’s a time to celebrate with the ones you love. But everyone I loved died, leaving me alone. Which is why I decided to travel this year for the holidays. I thought that getting away for a while might help bring some holiday cheer back into my life.
I’ve never been more wrong. Now I’m stranded half way around the world with a man I’ve never met, isolated in a snowed-in cabin. And there’s something out there, something lurking in the shadows of the woods, something watching me.
Frost is a dark Christmas story featuring a monster that falls for a mortal. While the story does end with a sweet HEA, the path there is bathed in blood. Proceed with caution.
Thoughts Solid 4 purely because this was wild and just pure entertainment 💀 if you love dark reads and by dark I mean DARK check content warnings type of read then this one's for you -- I'm serious --
Plot Summary Frost is no fairytale—he’s a cursed, icy reaper bound to the winter woods, taking human souls once a year. His existence is cold, bloody, and solitary…until Elisa wanders into his forest and sparks the first warmth he’s felt in centuries.
Elisa, who hates Christmas and is grieving everyone she’s ever loved, takes a holiday trip hoping to escape her sadness—only to end up stranded in a remote, snowed-in cabin with a stranger. But something dark stalks the woods outside, watching her. When the truth about Jack emerges, she must face both the danger surrounding her and the forbidden connection growing between them.

This was such a fun, dark, one sitting Christmas read!
I don’t usually do Christmas books - but if you make it dark? Count me in!
There was enough plot to actually enjoy this story AND some yummy spice to go with it !
Jack Frost was a very yummy monster MC. I liked both of his forms, but his monster energy was delicious. Yes. Pls kill the bad guys and get hard over it. 🫦💀
And Elisa, our fmc. I felt for her. She just wanted to get away. I guess she found home in a very unfortunate way.
This was fast paced and fun, yet very depraved and I loved it!
Overall, 4 🌟, 4 🌶️!
Thank you so much to LO and team for allowing me to read an advanced copy of FROST !
Frost ⭐️ This started off really promising with an interesting background on the characters and build up and I was really into it. Jack Frost is hot and the play on Elsa was so exciting. It quickly took a turn once they met and I found every piece of dialogue between the two annoying and repetitive. If I have to hear either of the nicknames they called each other within the near future anytime soon I’ll go deaf. Her overuse of daddy and just clinging to him so instantly was so dumb. Also there could have just been SO MUCH MORE. I didn’t like the direction the story took and the plot turned into a fucking mess. I almost dnfed multiple times. UGH. And the smut had potential like lots of it and just also gave me almost nothing. HELP
This was the perfect Christmas monster novella, in my opinion. It delivered everything I want in a short, sweet, spicy holiday escape — and then some.
I am fully in my Lo Gold era. This is the fourth book of hers I’ve devoured this month, and I’ve loved every single one. But this one? Easily a top favorite. Jack Frost had me hot, bothered, and questioning my life choices with those icicle antics. 🥵 The clever, cheeky Disney references? Obsessed. The chemistry and saucy banter between Jack and Elisa? Five stars, no notes. I could 100% read a full-length novel of these two wreaking magical, horny havoc.
If you’re a novella lover like me and enjoy a delicious little monster-smut moment, definitely add this one to your TBR.
'I’m a monster, a beast, a creature of shadow and legend, something children are warned about while they snuggle up by the cozy fire. I am cold, frigid, lifeless death..... What would I need companionship for?'
Dark Spicy Romantasy Horror | Folklore-Inspired | Monster Romance | HEA | Fated Mates | Knotting
There's something wicked and appealing about the cover, promising horror and delightful wickedness.
'.... running from this beast, this monster, has me feeling alive, as if, in this moment, I’ve finally snapped out of the haze of trauma that’s been hanging around me for years.' (Ch 4)
This is not your mischievously cute trickster cartoon character Jack Frost. This is a disturbingly twisted and darkly monstrous punishing version, Faðir Winter / Jokul Frosti. If Krampus and Frozen's Elsa (or better yet, Batman's Mr. Freeze) had a baby, maybe Jack would be it.
'“And is that what you are? A predator?” I shouldn’t tempt the beast that has me clasped in his claws but I can’t seem to stop myself. “And I suppose I’m supposed to be the scared little bunny?”' (Ch 10)
Leaving quaint and cozy in the dust as this story is no such thing. Instead, it is nestled quite abruptly in a distrubing winter onslaught from a serial killer rapist to a blue monster with double appendages. Read the warnings before reading the book. It's a dark, steamy, depraved one.
'Father Winter hears all, sees all, knows all.'
I do wish there was a glossary, footnote, or brief definition within the same sentence or paragraph to let us know what all of the Norwegian words mean that they use throughout.
YES, daddy Frost!! This was exactly what I needed to start my holiday reads!! This book has me wanting to call Jack Daddy!
What if Jack Frost was cursed until he found his mate…
Elisa lost her parents tragically, and cannot stand the holiday joy. In a desperate attempt to get away she spends her entire savings to go on an exchange student adventure, and travel for the holidays. Only she doesn’t remember making it to her destination. She wakes up in a strange dream to a monster with 2 appendages, and a release that tastes like candy cane…
Jack is cursed to reap the souls every year of the truly despicable humans. Only this year is different because the woman who is in the clutches of his next victim belongs to him.
I devoured this, if you like a daddy kink, and some unique anatomy you’ll absolutely devour this!
Thank you so much to LO Gold for the opportunity to read this pre-release in exchange for my honest review!
Eh..not great. Not terrible, but not great. The story couldn't establish a direction and just hopped around to various themes and plot points, with no clear path or full development. There was some sex in it, but not as much as you'd think. And the sex was fairly bland, especially with the characters involved. For instance, let's talk about cum. I know people wince at that word, but it's a part of life, so let's all be adults. In a story like this, our one lead, Jack, in all of his supernatural abilities, just came a bunch like a human? Ok, it may have had peppermint qualities, but whatta missed opportunity. Why not have it be a poof of snowflakes? Or an icicle that fires out like a torpedo, that he struggles aiming away from his mates, for their own safety? Or maybe he blasts out a snowcone? I dunno, but I was left underwhelmed. Again, I don't think this was bad, but it desperately needed a good content editor to fine-tune it all. Maybe it needed to be two different stories or just cut out a bunch of the noise and focus in on certain aspects. Who the hell knows, but, above all else, that sexual content needed to be overhauled and amped up.
While the premise and a Father Winter/Jack Frost monster were intriguing, everything else fell flat. Elisa is far from the brightest crayon in the box. She takes a pill from a stranger, wakes up in a secluded cabin deep in the woods and doesn't fully trust the man there. Yet, she drinks alcohol with him after trying to escape barefoot in the snow drenched woods. UGHFDHJGDFG I will say the atmosphere is beautiful and the level of gore rejuvenated me. There were moments that felt too sudden. The daddy kink just happened out of nowhere, the witch really steered the plot and would appear randomly. Desperately wish I could have enjoyed this more but wasn't for me.
Two things: forked tongue & double appendages. That’s it—you already know you wanna read it.
“A monster with no fear to feast upon is no monster at all. And I’m nothing if not a motherfucking monster.”
It’s honestly no surprise I devoured this in one sitting. 🤭 This book is the perfect short holiday read! Packed with smut, violence, and just the right amount of bloody chaos that feeds my little feral heart. Daddy Jack can ruin me and all my holes whenever he wants. 😏
“You can run, love, but when I catch you, I will make you pay for it.”
Elisa just wants to make the holidays hurt a little less. A foreign exchange program feels like the perfect escape, so she flies across the world in hopes to not be alone. What she gets instead? A remote cabin, a total stranger, and the unsettling feeling that someone or something is watching her.
Jack is a cursed monster, tasked with cleansing the woods of the wicked. When he arrives at a cabin stinking of wickedness, he expects just his next prey. He was not expecting his snow angel. A human who ignites a feral, all-consuming need to claim, keep, and possess. After all she is his.
“Father Winter hears all, sees all, knows all.”
If you wanna read a quick smutty holiday with a shifter, a virgin FMC, revenge plot, double peen, knotting, primal and temperature play then look no further this is the perfect book for you.

WOW! Holy cow, I was not prepared for this short but spicy novella. You’re in for a monster of a treat with this Jack Frost reimagining, with Norse mythology thrown in, and SO much spice. This is dark, Jack is a monster, but like all good mmcs, he’s soft for her…metaphorically speaking of course. This man has two monster peens plus a knot and don’t even get me started on the candy cane flavored c*m and temperature play. Elisa decides to do an exchange program over winter break and travel to Oslo, Norway. She has terrible anxiety and decides to take something on the flight. When she wakes in a cabin deep in the woods with a strange guy, she knows something is off. Then there is the strange and spicy dream she had about a blue monster and his candy cane flavored c*m. Jack seeks to rid human wickedness from his woods. When he finds Elisa he knows she’s his mate. He ‘s determined to save Elisa before anything bad happens to her. Lo Gold has a talent for making a dark holiday monster romance sweet and spicy.
🚩Be sure to read the author’s note and content warnings before reading.

A Few Favorite Quotes: “I am cold, frigid, lifeless death. I’m Jack F* €k ing Frost.”
“Caught you. And now, you’re mine.”
“His darkness sets my soul aflame with desperate desire.”
“This year, all I want for Christmas is to be stuffed full of candy cane c*m by my Monster Daddy.”
Lo Gold has captured me y’all, and I’m not letting her get rid of me now!! This was my first book of Lo’s and I’ll definitely be reading more soon!
This was absolutely perfection!! This was exactly what I wanted in a dark monster romance with a bit of revenge gore and a lot of heat!!
Jack, aka “Daddy Winter”, was the perfect morally grey MMC! I loved how he had a mission to rid the world of evil through unaliving evil people (seems effective!), but he was really a good guy. What is it about us that’s like, “yeah, he can unalive people for the right reasons and I’m ok with it”? I don’t know, but we are, I am, and that’s that hahaha. I loved how possessive he was of Elisa and how he instantly knew she was his, leading to lots of “mine” moments and delicious spice! BUT he was also in love with her fire and grit. He didn’t want to control or tame her (at least outside the bedroom 😉), he wanted her as his equal, and that’s a win for me!
As for Elisa, I loved that she was a little atypical for a FMC during Christmastime. We tend to get FMCs who are bubbly and love Christmas, but that could not have been further from who Elisa was. I loved that she didn’t like Christmas and she really just wanted to get away from everyone and go experience life instead of stick around to have another glum Christmas (same, girl. Same).
I loved all the mythology that ran through the book, not just from a fated mates perspective, but from the perspective of the book Elisa found talking about witches, our monster man, and various other creatures of lore. I am a sucker for mythology being thrown into books, and this hit perfectly!
I am also a sucker for references to other works, but especially to fairy tales or Disney movies, and this book had tons of Frozen references!! From Elisa (Elsa) being our main character, to her searching for Anna, to evil man Hans, I loved each and every little reference that was peppered into the overall story.
Thank you to Lo Gold for the opportunity to read this book. The thoughts and opinions expressed above are honest and my own.
Ive just finished ACOTAR, wanted to read yet didnt want a full novel. One small, little look at Booksirens, and I found what i needed! Jack and Elisas' story is full of blood, guts and gore. Trigger warnings need to be heeded but my, was this fun! I read this in one sitting and devoured it. Bad guys get whats coming to them and Elisa finds her forever family.
Spicy as all hell, and I didnt even mind the pregnancy!
I received an advance review copy for free from booksirens.com, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This short Christmas monster romance was such a blast—spicy, addictive, and hard to put down! I flew through it and loved every minute. Perfect for the holidays, with icy winter vibes and just the right amount of monster spice ❄️🔥
What a storyteller Lo Gold is with Frost. A dark yet unique take on Jake Frost. A 127-page novella, it’s packed with d@ddy shm¡nk, pr¡mal play, and fated mates—a page turner for sure. I loved it.
This was my first book by LO Gold and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I absolutely devoured this and will for sure be reading more. If you want a quick and spicy monster romance, give this book a try. But please read the trigger warnings first.

"Don't tempt a monster, pretty girl. Not unless you're willing to risk getting hurt"
Frost is a Nordic retelling of Jack Frost and will keep you hooked from the very beginning. Elsa signed up for a study abroad program to escape the dread she faces each holiday season after the passing of her parents. But it goes terribly wrong before she even arrives. In fact she doesn't even remember the trip. She does however remember a crazy dream involving herself and a strange monster who has c*m like a candy cane. Jack is determined to free Elsa before anything bad can happen to her. But little does he know, that the pull he is experiencing is much more than he originally thought. Maybe they both will end up losing themselves to each other in the process.
"I'm nothing if not a motherf*cking monster."
Thank you so much LO Gold for gifting me an early reading copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I’m honestly not entirely sure what the hell I just read… but I liked it. A lot.
This was dark, spicy & unhinged in the best way with a Jack Frost monster romance that somehow managed to feel brutal, seductive and oddly cozy at the same time. The fact that my brain kept overlaying Frozen imagery made me giggle more than once, which somehow worked instead of ruining the mood.
This was also my first shifter/monster romance and I fear it may have awakened something. The vibes were cold, bloody & obsessive, the spice did not play around… despite the chaos, I was entertained the entire time.
Do I fully understand it? No lol am I into monsters now? Would I read more like this? …Absolutely.
I was lucky enough to be an ARC reader for Frost by L.O. Gold, and this book pulled me straight into a world of icy danger, dark secrets, and a slow-burn tension that hits like a snowstorm. From the very first chapter, I was hooked.
In this story, we follow a heroine who’s dragged into a frozen, ruthless world where survival is never guaranteed. Everything is ruled by power, silence, and fear and right at the center of it all is a cold, dangerous, morally-grey man whose heart is as frozen as the land he controls. He’s the last person she should want… but the chemistry between them refuses to stay buried.
As the secrets begin to surface and the danger tightens around them, their tension shifts into obsession, protection, and that delicious, melting heat L.O. Gold writes so well. The winter atmosphere, the darker twists, the forbidden pull — it all blends together into a perfect dark romance escape.
⭐ This is a 5-star read for me, no doubt. If Frost isn’t on your TBR yet… you need to fix that ASAP. ❄️🔥💋
If Santa does not leave me a blue horned monster under my tree this year I am going to riot. The spice is spicing in this story in the best way possible. I love a protective MMC especially when that MMC is also a monster.
Elisa is trying to escape the holiday season after a tragic accident leaves the holiday season less than joyful. Signing up for a study abroad trip seems like the perfect escape but she ends up getting more than she bargains for but Jack is there to save the day... and her life.
Jack Frost has been cursed to the lands of the forrest cleaning out the evil doing in the world. Centuries of a lonely life until he stumbles upon his snow angel just in time to save her life.
This is a dark romance please check trigger warnings before reading!
This novella was okay, I liked it, but the whole daddy/princess stuff is just icky. So she's saved from being SA'd and then right after starts calling a monster "daddy" and it was just super cringe. It doesn't fit or flow with the story. It's more like an awkward moment. If you would have left it out, the writing would have been much better. The connection to her "darker side" is good, but it needs more to be more prominent rather than her being super submissive. It was over the top and annoying and hard to read, like you wrote it for a younger audience which is even more cringe and weird.
I'm not a big monster romance girlie but this was pretty good! It was fast paced, smutty as hell and has me viewing Jack Frost is a completely different light 🥵
This Nordic retelling of Jack Frost will have you hot and heavy!
If you are a fan of monster romance, and in the mood for a quick novella this would definitely be for you!
TW: attempted rape on page, death of parents (off page), human consumption (not cannibalism), knotting, daddy kink
Overall like 3.5-3.75 rating for me. I enjoyed reading this with a friend in our book group. It’s a great spicy short story that is great for what it is. I’d love a super short follow up to get more of Jack’s backstory and what he did to be cursed. But I loved it as is. The only issue I had was the daddy kink….
Not to yuck someone’s yum, but that killed a lot of the spice for me!

I was in desperate need of something to get me out of my reading slump and this spicy winter number was just what I needed. Was absolutely perfect for the season 🖤
Jack Frost the monster you are 🥵
I loved the story, the bloody horror and the absolute insane heat in this winter with not one but 2 peens I was sat the entire time and devoured.
Thank you so much LO for the opportunity to read this ARC 😭🖤 it was the perfect read.
Can we talk about obsessed?? As someone who loooves a good monster romance, a good double peen action, a possessive MMC, this was everything! If you haven't fantasize at least once about what Jack Frost would be like in bed... well why not?😂❄️
