KYLO REN REACHES THE DARKEST DEPTHS OF HIS JOURNEY! KYLO REN battles his way through the darkest corridors of VADER'S CASTLE! Visions of VADER bring Kylo to his knees! Will the young tyrant be able to move beyond the shadow of his grandfather? Or will he be imprisoned within the LEGACY OF VADER?
Charles Soule is a #1 New York Times-bestselling novelist, comics author, screenwriter, musician, and lapsed attorney. He has written some of the most prominent stories of the last decade for Marvel, DC and Lucasfilm in addition to his own work, such as his comics Curse Words, Letter 44 and Undiscovered Country, and his original novels Light of the Jedi, The Endless Vessel, The Oracle Year and Anyone. He lives in New York.
In the depths of Vader's castle, the line between Force visions and the voices in Kylo's head dissolves in a rhapsody of lightsaber duels and hard confrontations with the living and the dead, all brought to vivid life through masterful artwork. Buffeted between suppressed truths and psychological traps, we finally see Kylo's impossible dilemma: unable to fully "kill the past," he is trapped in a present he cannot accept--one he has created for himself. A fitting grand finale for Legacy of Vader.
I like how even in-universe there's this reckoning of how silly it is for Kylo to want to be Vader. This book reinforces that there is still good within Ben. He brings it with him but tries to deny it.
There was a lot to unpack here on intergenerational trauma, yet the series somehow managed to end on a (literal) cliffhanger when I was really hoping for a resolution instead. Bonus points for a significant Reylo mention (Jedi girl*wink wink* hands *wink wink*) and for promising us a continuation/sequel.
As always, I loved how the artwork brilliantly captures the full range of Kylo Ren's emotions.
