A supervillain plans to dethrone the local criminals and become the new kingpin of an otherwise peaceful city in this fantasy superhero series.
A kinetic manipulator who can turn vibrations into devastating shockwaves, Rattles has already torn through Eauclaire’s defenses. Buildings are in ruins, heroes are falling, and now he’s coming for the city’s criminal mastermind herself. But a certain gang of teenage girls—who wield powers drawn from the animal kingdom—stands in his way . . .
Loyal and cunning, they wreak havoc in the name of their leader, known as the Boss. And thanks to their fight to tip the scales in the war between good and evil, evil always comes out ahead. But the Boss is no hardened villain. She’s just Emily Wright, a college student with anxiety, self-doubt, and no real desire for world domination. Having accidentally summoned her devious sisters, all she wants is to keep them safe, even if it means breaking a few laws along the way.
All the while, attacks on the city persist, and Emily’s fragile empire begins to crumble. To protect her sisters and her secret identity, she must form an uneasy alliance with Glamazon and the Heroic Response Force to take out this destructive new enemy.
And despite the overwhelming chaos, Emily still hopes doing good deeds might balance her moral scales—or at least keep her off the city’s Most Wanted list. But Rattles has no intention of stepping down. The battle for Eauclaire will force Emily to decide whether she’s a hero, a villain, or something far more dangerous.
The third volume of the hit LitRPG fantasy series—with almost two million views on Royal Road—is now available in paperback, ebook, and audiobook!
A bird that likes comfy and happy things, and also knives. Once ate a god’s eye and awakened the ability to see all that is good in the world. Known to steal shiny ideas and baubles. Currently forbidden from writing his own bios.
Another super-cute entry. I was glad to see the "v-word" question get dug into more deeply this entry--right up to tipping point but doesn't quite topple over. I really enjoyed getting to know the new sister, Maple--her technology ideas are as much fun as the other sisters' antics. Emily is no longer the shyest in the group--she grows a lot in this volume, even to embracing her persona, leading to some very satisfying sequences. We also get to meet some new capital-H-Heroes and non-Heroes, all of whom were interesting additions. Maybe even flashes of romance? My favorite scene was in the hospital. The ending introduces one more sister who is very different. I'm really curious to see how she fits in to the new dynamic. But... female moose don't have a antlers. That's going to bug me. Still, #4'd better come quickly!
The whole idea of Emily waking up with powers she didn’t ask for and then accidentally summoning adorable little “sisters” had me grinning the whole time. It’s funny, quirky, and doesn’t take itself too seriously, which was a great break from heavier reads. There are lots of laugh out loud moments and some genuinely sweet interactions that made it hard to put down. I really liked how the story leaned into found family vibes and didn’t shy away from humor, even when things got a bit chaotic. All in all, it was a cozy, entertaining read that left me excited to jump into the next book in the series.
An enjoyable addition to the series. I feel like this one focuses a bit more on the situation in the plot and a little less on the big picture compared to some of the previous entries. It's like a great episode that pushes the big picture along in only little ways.
Cute. Not my favorite of the books, but still enjoyable for the most part.
There were multiple parts that were disjointed from the main story or situationally didn’t make sense (the school scene as an example), and it took me picking/putting down to finish the story.
