I had the privilege of being an early reader for this compilation of stories. They were all fantastic! My favorites were Love to Die For, Silent Retribution and Queen Bee. Each story in this book was edge of your seat reading. I highly recommend this book whether you are familiar with all the authors or they are new to you. None of the stories will disappoint!
I was interested in this thriller collection due to one of the participating authors whom I have followed for over a decade. Her novella Queen Bee was exciting to me, not only because I enjoyed her references to her previous thriller (I love it when individual stories "connect" in their own universe) but also because the setting featured a derecho weather event. My family experienced the same derecho that the author did in the summer of 2012. It is a fitting setting to create the feelings of helplessness and entrapment that are often featured in thrillers. I appreciate that the novellas in this collection are not long since I have limited time available for pleasure reading. I have found in the past that these collections can be great ways to try new authors and find new series.
Don’t Blink is a collection of 12 faith-filled romantic suspense novellas. Melanie Snitker and Lynn Shannon are two of my favorite authors, so I read those two novellas first. They did not disappoint! Each is a fast-paced story, and each has plenty of substance and kept me captivated. The other 10 novellas were by authors whose books I’ve not read. All are compelling reads filled with unexpected turns, engaging characters, and a bit of romance. This is a great collection, whether these authors are familiar favorites or new to you.
Wonderful collection of 12 thriller novellas by various authors—some authors whose novels I have read before and some new to me authors. Each thriller is well-written with suspense, danger, and intrigue. I devoured most of the collection yesterday and then finished the rest this afternoon. I received a complimentary copy of this set. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Don’t Blink is a collection of 12 faith-filled clean read romantic suspense novellas. I have been following some of the authors for a while but some of them, this is the first I have read anything they have written....but it certainly will not be the last time I read their work. Each of the novellas are well written and enjoyable. There is smart plotting, action packed suspense, and well developed characters considering each was in a novella. I thoroughly enjoyed each novella and the characters in each one. They each grab hold and make you want to finish the story before you put it down. They were all incredible with great plots. This is a great buy and you will not be disappointed if you purchase this box set. But I will warn you, buckle up because there is nonstop action. Enjoy!
Most of these novellas are very engaging. Because they are short, the suspense is short lived compared to longer novels. Many of the authors I have never read before. I will be reading more books by several of them. If you like mystery and suspense, I’d recommend this compilation of stories. I received a complimentary copy of this book. My opinions are my own.
This collection is well worth picking up. Some of the authors were new to me, some were the draw for me to order the book. (Then I scored an advance review copy. My own copy won't arrive until release day.)
As with any collection, not every story worked for me. The ones that weren’t to my taste will be another reader’s favourites.
Here are some of the ones I most enjoyed, in order of appearance:
Queen Bee, by Heather Day Gilbert: 5 stars, tense but heartwarming. I liked the setting and the bee details. I was pretty I’d identified the villain, but there was a lot more going on that totally surprised me.
Abandoned to Darkness, by Jordyn Redwood: 5 stars, even tenser but somehow Isla’s blindness and having to trust Asher, her rescuer, helped me keep enough distance that I wasn’t too frightened.
Murder by Accident, by Vikki Kestell: 5 stars, and my personal favourite in this collection. Miss BD Finch is delightful—feisty, direct, and determined to avoid the gangster who wants to prevent her testifying at his trial. Be warned, this novella doesn’t resolve that. It stops at what I’d call a pause point. Not a cliff-hanger, but where the next stage of the action will begin in book 1 of The Tahoe Mysteries series, Number 1 With a Bullet. Ordinarily, that’s a deal-breaker for me not to find at least partial resolution... but I’d already decided I’ll be following Miss Finch and her pets into the next book.
There are 12 Christian, clean suspense stories. I enjoyed them and below are short thoughts about each story in this book.
Love To Die For by Terry Toler Paige joined a reality dating show. She tries to keep her Christian beliefs, but they are challenged. One of the other contestants dies and all things point to Paige. The storyline was interesting, but I felt like some of it was a little far-fetched.
Silent Retribution by Cynthia Hickey Heather is being targeted by someone and trying to stay alive. Ryan, a local deputy, is trying to help her stay alive and find out who is targeting her. This was a good suspenseful novel. I think I figured out who was involved near the end. Definitely some twists and turns. Good story.
Queen Bee by Heather Day Gilbert Twila’s foster daughter is being stalked. Twila tries to hide her. When she is at a at a safe house with other women, she comes upon a man who has injured his ankle. Jude is helped back to the farmhouse. Is this the person stalking her foster daughter? Can Twila keep her safe? This was a really good story with a lot of twists and turns. I really enjoyed it.
Abandoned Into Darkness by Jordyn Redwood Isla has been blinded and is lost in Black Canyon. She has been held captive and escaped. Asher, with Black Canyon Search and Rescue, finds her. She is wary at first, but needs to rely on him for help. Both are being hunted by her captors. Can they escape? This was a really good suspense novel. Great story. Definitely on pins and needles until the end.
One of Us is Guilty by Urcelia Teixeira Five women in a book club bring after discussing a book, who would they kill and how would they do it. But then someone does die and they are targeted. Who actually killed this person? Can they figure it out? And can they figure out who is targeting them? Interesting book and storyline. Towards the end there was a twist that I didn’t expect.
Gavin (A Durham Private Security Novella) by Melanie D. Snitker Ivy is looking for her brother Brady, who seems to be missing. She turns to Gavin to help her find her brother. Can they find her brother as well as keep her safe? This was a really good book. I love the way this author writes and love her other stories. This is the beginning of the series. Looking forward to this series.
Bento and Betrayal by Camy Tang September Wong is a former bodyguard that lost her job due to being framed. Isaac Noguchi is the CEO of Mahina Security Consulting. She ends up getting him out of a sticky situation and he temporarily hires her. They are trying to find one of his client’s stalker. Can she help? It was a good story. It’s set in Hawaii, so you are also dealing with customs there. It was interesting trying to figure out who’s who in the story and why.
Unauthorized by Author Sherri Wilson Johnson Daisy finds some financial discrepancies in the company’s books and it looks like someone is embezzling money. Owen is a local IT guy at the company and has had a crush on her, but not acted on it as he feels like she is better than him. He helps her after she is attacked in the parking garage. Someone doesn’t want her to find the info. Can they stay safe while finding out who is embezzling? Good story and interesting.
Murder by Accident (A Miss Finch Prequel) by Vikki Kestell Miss BD Finch is a guest lecturer and an author. However, her book has put a target on her back. Her book explains how these car accidents are not really accidents, but a cover up for murder. You’re taken on an adventure how she tries to stay safe and who helps her. This was a good story, but I was disappointed that it was left in a cliffhanger. Looks like you will need to read future books to get the whole story.
Guarded by C.D. Gill Ashlyn is trying to finish her anthropology degree. She has to find a not well-known culture to study. Because her father is a politician and she could be in danger, a bodyguard is assigned to her. Houston is the bodyguard that will help her. Can he keep her safe? Why does the government seem to want her paper? This was a good story and a few twists and turns I didn’t expect. Good read.
Going Once, Going Twice (Guardian Sweethearts Book 1) by Jan Thompson Phoebe works as an office manager at Mendenhall Security company. Her husband, Keenan, is a security specialist and is not able to tell her everything about his job. They have a son who ends up being kidnapped. Keenan shuts her out as he believes it is someone from his past. Phoebe goes off on her own to find her son as her husband isn’t sharing information. Can they find him? This was a good story. TW – Touches on child trafficking. Good story, but Keenan should be sharing and working with his wife.
Deadly Pursuit by Lynn Shannon – Pages 1472 - 1618 Vikki Rodriguez is a Texas Ranger. She is called back home by Sheriff Colton Barnes as someone has been killed and the killer left a note for Vikki. Can they figure out who is the murderer is? What happens when they strike again? This was a good whodunnit. Trying to figure it out and thought I maybe knew and then a switcheroo. I kept going back and forth to figure it out.
I received an ARC from one of the authors and am leaving an honest review.
Each short story packed the power of a full novel. It is rare to be able to honestly say that. In fact, I often avoid short stories because of this prejudice. These stories fully developed the characters and drew me in while making it very hard to put the book down. More, please.
What a stellar line up of authors and stories! A couple of these authors were new to me, but none of the stories disappointed! Each story, while finished, left me wanting to read more from that author! Highly recommend these stories!
What a great set of books! Each book is different from the others. You’ll love the romance in each of these clean Christian fiction books. All but one author was new to me and I’m looking forward to finding more books by each of them!!
This is a really awesome collection of stories. I really enjoyed reading all of them and have even found a couple of new authors that I can't wait to read more from.
I'm enjoying this book of short thrillers. I'm reading them as I have time between books. I started with Queen Bee by Heather Day Gilbert because I love her books! This story was very exciting with a fast moving plot. I had no idea who the stalker was, so the conclusion was very satisfying! 5 stars!
I've read the first 2 stories now as well. I enjoyed both of them and would give the first one 3.5 stars and the second one 4.5 stars for the exciting plot and characters.
I loved the Jordyn Redwood story about Asher and Isla! It was very suspenseful and moving. 5 stars!
I enjoyed Melanie Snitker's story which had a really good plot and sweet second chance romance. 4 stars!
Review of "Gavin" by Melanie Snitker "Something wasn't right, and Ivy Ramsey couldn't put her finger on what it was. Ever since she woke up that morning, she'd had the distinct feeling that something bad was going to happen."
So begins the first book in the new Durham Private Security series by Melanie Snitker. What I am really going to enjoy about this series is that the family works together to help their clients. While Gavin may have taken the lead on this book, his siblings and even his parents are there to provide a refuge and an extra set of eyes to help solve the case.
Ivy's brother is missing. At least she can't get a hold of him. Even though not everyone believes her, she knows that he needs help. Thankfully Gavin believes her. With plenty of unpredictable moments and a sweet romance that isn't in a hurry, I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the rest of the series.
P.S. I am not finished reading this collection yet, but I wanted to review the title that I already completed. I did receive an advanced copy of the whole book and may review more titles in the future. I wanted to read and review the above book for sure. All opinions are my own.
Don't Blink contains 12 outstanding, Christian, romantic suspense books. Most of these are new to me authors but I am eager to read more books by everyone who contributed to this amazing anthology. There is a wide variety of styles, plots, and mysteries. I enjoyed everyone of the included tales. I would read three or four and then need a break to a different genre, but then I would go right back for more suspense! Just an FYI, Murder By Accident ends with a cliffhanger. I adored Miss Finch, but I will not be buying three more books to see how the story ends. Gavin is one of my favorites. I really enjoyed September and Isaac in Bento and Betrayal. The careers of the budget analyst and IT auditor in Unauthorized paralleled some of my major career interests. I really felt for mama in Going Once, Going Twice. Pre-order your copy now if you like clean suspense. There are enough books included that you are bound to enjoy several if not all of these.
This review and star rating is ONLY for Gavin by Melanie Snitker. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Gavin and Ivy. This was a novella, so it was not long, but it still packed in a lot of action. Gavin and Ivy had a little bit of history, so that worked well into the story and led the way for an immediate attraction between them. Gavin was obviously a protector, so he focused on protecting Ivy while his entire family worked together to solve this case. It was a great story that makes me excited for the new series that this book kicks off.
I did not read all of the books in the set as of yet, so I cannot give a rating for any of the other books.
This review is for only 3 of the stories: Queen Bee, Gavin, Deadly Pursuit. All three were great, action-packed suspense novellas that had twists and turns to keep your attention.
I was gifted a copy of this anthology by the publisher and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.
It was fun to be introduced to new writers, and to decide which ones I wanted to read more of their writings. These 12 are definitely filled with suspense, action, and even some mystery. I especially liked Melanie Snitker's story "Gavin", and even ordered the next book "Mac". "Mac releases in a couple of days, and I can't wait to continue the story.
All of the stories were short but interesting. I enjoyed the mix of familiar and new (to me) authors, and since many of the stories were introductions to new series I now have a list of books to find and read. It’s the perfect way to find new authors and series.
I have not finished all the stories yet, but the ones I have read have been very good. This set of books is extremely suspenseful. Most have good Christian content, but a few have none at all. I have only written comments on about half the books, but this is a very good set and well worth reading.
Gavin by Snitker
Ivy is searching for her missing brother Brady. Is he in hiding, or has he been taken? Is he a victim, witness, or villain? Ivy turns to an old friend, Gavin, to help her find her brother. In the process, they renew their friendship – and more. This story has good Christian aspects such as God’s protection and guidance and praising Him.
Going Once, Going Twice - by Jan Thompson
Phoebe and Keenan are married with a four-year-old son. Keenan works in security and must keep his work private, even from his wife. When their son is abducted, some of Keenan’s secrets may come to light. If Phoebe learns some of those secrets, will he lose her? Can he trust God to protect their marriage and to restore their son? Wonderful, very suspenseful story. Very good Christian aspects: prayer, using scripture for comfort and direction, trusting God. I love to put quotes in reviews, but this book had so many good quotes, I decided to just let you find them for yourself.
Love to die for by Toler
Paige is a participant in a reality dating show. She loves Michael, the bachelor on the show, but her parents do not approve of him since he is not a Christian. His parents do not approve of her because she doesn’t believe in prenups since marriage is to be for life. When another contestant on the show is murdered, Paige becomes the prime suspect. This story has an extremely complex plot with a lot of twists and turns. Who is the murderer? Does Michael really love Paige? The Christian content is excellent. We must suffer the consequences when we do not follow God’s laws and his plans. All things do work together for our good when we allow God to have control.
Silent Retribution by Hickey Heather is a third-grade teacher. Ryan is a sheriff’s deputy. They were best friends as children, but then they both moved away. They are both back in town now, and someone wants revenge on Heather. Can Ryan protect her and find the culprit? This is a suspenseful romance, but it contains no Christian elements at all. Since this boxed set is listed as Christian, this was a disappointment.
Queen Bee by Heather Day Gilbert
Twila is the foster mother of a teen girl who is mute since she witnessed the murder of her mother. Isabella was only four when her mother died. Since she is now responding to therapy, the killer sees her as a threat. To protect Izzy, they move off-grid to a farm/women’s shelter. Good suspense, but no Christian content.
Abandoned into Darkness by Jordyn Redwood
Asher is with Search and Rescue and finds a hiker who has been missing for weeks. Isla was abducted by the serial killer who murdered her sister. His attack left her blind. Can Asher rescue Isla from the canyon and from the murderer? Who can they trust? This is a very suspenseful story with good Christian aspects such as prayer and salvation.
Twelve Christian, clean suspense stories. This retiree was familiar with several of the authors - Melanie D. Snitker and Jan Thompson. The stories I read in the collection.
Love To Die For by Terry Toler Paige joined a reality dating show, who tries to keep her Christian beliefs, but they are challenged. A contestant dies and the murder points to Paige. This reader is not fond of reality shows.
Silent Retribution by Cynthia Hickey Heather is being targeted and is trying to stay alive. Ryan, a local deputy, is helping to keep her alive while finding out who is targeting her. Relatable characters, twist and turn plot with a believable resolution.
Gavin (A Durham Private Security Novella) by Melanie D. Snitker Ivy is looking for her missing brother Brady. She turns to Gavin for help.
Going Once, Going Twice (Guardian Sweethearts Book 1) by Jan Thompson Phoebe works as an office manager at Mendenhall Security company, while her husband, Keenan, is a security specialist and is not able to tell her everything about his job. Their son ends up being kidnapped. Keenan shuts her out, as he believes it is someone from his past. Phoebe goes off on her own to find her son, since her husband isn’t sharing information. A page turning read with the contemporary issue of child trafficking.
Deadly Pursuit by Lynn Shannon – Abuse didn't have to be physical to leave scars. A murder case has brought Vikki Rodriguez, a Texas Ranger, back home by Sheriff Colton Barnes. Someone has been killed and the killer left a note for Vikki.
So far, I have only read one story in this collection. "Unauthorized" by Sherri Wilson Johnson is Faith-Based Contemporary Romantic Suspense. This novella is the prequel to the first book in Sherri’s The Silas Holcomb Legacy series, coming out in the fall of 2025. The author skillfully combines the tropes of “wrongfully accused”, “slow-burn romance”, and “protective hero” into a story that grabs your attention.
Daisy Blackwood, a meticulous budget analyst, plays by the rules, lives by routines, and works steadily. But when she makes a terrible discovery, she finds her career — and her very life—at stake. Owen Mackenzie, a sharp-witted IT auditor, prefers the comfort of a screen to the chaos of the corporate world. But an encounter with Daisy at work pulls him into the role of protector and winds up finding more than he bargained for in the end.
I love how the two characters develop and their storylines and relationship develop. This book takes you through twists and turns that will keep you reading. As the prequel of a new series focusing on a group of cousins, I have to say this book definitely makes me want to read more.
So if you want Faith-Based Contemporary Romantic Suspense, check out Unauthorized by Sherri Wilson Johnson, and prepare yourself to want to read more of the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
Unauthorized is such a fun novel and a prequel for a new series that you’re going to want to start reading immediately! It was originally released as part of the Don’t Blink boxed set of 12 novellas that are all thrillers! So if you need more to read, check that out. Otherwise, wait until December for the first book in the series to release!
This is such a fun little novella. It follows two main characters in Nashville trying to figure out a mystery before it’s too late! Daisy is an analyst who finds something off. But then the evidence is changed to implicate her! She didn’t do anything wrong, but will anyone believe her?
Owen, the IT auditor, comes to her rescue or at least is the only one who believes in her innocence! Can the two of them actually figure this out and bring those responsible to justice? They’re not the normal crime fighters, but they want to make sure justice is served.
You’re going to get suspense, but also just enough romance to keep you hooked, too.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review, nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
This is an anthology with twelve contributing authors. I will add reviews for each story as I read through it. I may not read and review every story as I’m not fond of every author’s work that is represented. However,I will add reviews here for the stories I do read…I started with my favourites and jumped around to find and read these first:
Deadly Pursuit by Lynn Shannon 5 stars! I always enjoy this author’s work. She did a great job, once again, with this story. Well worth the read!
Abandoned Into Darkness - by Jordyn Redwood 5 stars - WHOA!!! I don’t think I’ve read one book by this author that I didn’t love! She’s amazing! This story was hold onto your seat, action packed, gritty, more thriller than suspense, and I really appreciated that the main characters aren’t perfect, and they don’t escape unharmed. The ending is open ended and trauma filled, both broken but hopeful. Don’t read this one right before bed!
Unauthorized - by Sherri Wilson Johnson I have read books by this author in the past and, honestly, I’m not a fan. The writing style just isn’t a good match for me. I’m giving this one 3 stars.
Murder By Accident - by Vikki Kestell This story reminded me of Gracie Ruth Mitchell’s Juniper Resorts to Murder. The writing style is similar and the main characters are quirky. This story is a prequel to a series, so don’t expect a conclusion. This author is very talented and this book is very different from her other stories. I like that she can diversify her style in such a way. I will be keeping an eye out for the remainder of the series. This one gets 5 stars from me.
Guarded -by C.D. Gill Nope. Did not enjoy this one. DNF.
So far I've only read Gavin by Melanie D. Snitker from this collection. If the other stories are as excellent, this set is one that suspense readers will not want to miss! Ivy Ramsey starts searching for her younger brother when he misses their bi-weekly dinner after sending her some odd pictures. She seeks the help of her older brother's friend, Gavin Durham, who is a private security expert. The main characters are likable and believable. I love how Snitker portrays the close family relationships of both. The plot is well-paced and engaging. The plot twists are interesting and seem like something that could actually happen. The writing style, including the dialogue, flows well. The mystery/suspense part of the story is wrapped up well, and the couple end up with date plans and a kiss. I would definitely read more in this new series of Ms. Snitker's and am eagerly looking forward to reading about Gavin's brother Mac in the Durham Private Security series. I would be very comfortable recommending this to family and friends that enjoy inspirational suspense thrillers. I received a complimentary copy and am sharing my opinion of this thrilling story.
I have read two of the entries in this collection. Both were good. Here is the review I posted for one of the stories, Unauthorized.
This is an entertaining novella. Daisy is a good heroine. She is threatened when she begins to investigate possible fraud, but is willing to sacrifice her own safety to do the right thing. Owen is nice to help her and there is the possibility of romance. Johnson has done a fine job of creating a good inspirational romantic suspense in novella form. There were enough hints that the villain was not a surprise but it is still an entertaining read.
I received an egalley of Unauthorized novella through Celebrate Lit. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Abandon into Darkness, just one of the fantastic books in this anthology. Isla wants to find answers about her sister's murder by a serial killer. When she has escaped from the killer once and he finds her and pushes her off a cliff, Asher is the EMT who finds her and helps her. But in the struggle with the killer Isla has some evidence she pulled off of his jacket. And now Asher doesn't know who he can trust, plus as a result of the fight, Isla has been blinded by the fall. It's up to Asher and his faith in God to get them both out safely, while evading a killer or is it killers? You don't want to miss reading the other stories in this set either. All exciting and great!
This set includes 12 clean stories with their own, some unique plots, little twists and turns, danger and so much more. I'd bet there is something for everyone in the set. My favorite has to be Gavin, this is a really good story, great and caring characters, just to name a few - Gavin, Brady, Mac, Olivia, Asher, Lucas, Truitt and Cole, the family dynamics that is honest, yet still accepting, helping and supporting through good and not so good times - especially Ruth who not only loves her own chillins, but she also takes Ivy under her wings, in the town of Destiny.
Asher Pierce, searching Black Canyon finds Isla Thorne, kidnapped, abused and injured holding the patch of another member of the search team!?! Can you get me out of here so I can tell my story, knowing the killer is among the people you trust?
Sabotage, a hungry cougar and more - this one is sure to keep you guessing all the way through. Will Isla finally believe what Asher says, that all things work together for good, to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose? Is there light in the darkness?
