Double Booked: A Second Chance Christmas Romance

Rate this book
Megan Grant knew she needed this—a girls' only writing retreat over the Christmas holiday. What more could she need to get past her writer's block and start her next best-selling romance novel than this beautiful winter wonderland and the small town vibes at the cutest Lake Tahoe cabin around? Just because she isn't exactly the romantic type doesn't mean she can't feel the love in the air—for her characters.

When her ex-boyfriend walks into the cabin on night one of Megan's vacation, claiming—and proving—he paid to rent the cabin the same days she reserved them for, she fully intends to make him leave... except there’s a massive snowstorm threatening to shut the whole town down. Apparently, no one is going anywhere. No matter how miserable they make each other.

Stuck with the man who broke her heart five years ago, Megan is faced with no other choice—she has to play nice, write her novel, and get through this holiday week until the roads are clear. Watching as every holiday hope she had for her getaway goes up in flames alongside all the healing she thought she'd done since Seth Carter vacated her life, Megan will have to decide what's more important.

Her pride or her heart.

Double Booked is a dual point of view, second-chance, Christmas-themed romance based on the north shores of Lake Tahoe. It can be read as a standalone, although it is the first book in an interconnected series, where each subsequent book follows the story of a new couple.

With such a predictable formula, this book should have been less enjoyable than it was.
A fun, cozy Christmas love story, this book took me to a snowy house in Lake Tahoe, painting a picture of a truly white season.
I couldn’t quite get behind the main female character, feeling she overreacted in a few ways, and didn’t see any character development or growth in her self awareness.
I was also initially um convinced by a main aspect of this novel until towards the end (I won’t give a spoiler). This rectified a lot for me.
It was also a little long for not much happening in the first 3/4 of the book, but I enjoyed where it got to.
Strong writing from this author I look forward to reading again.

If you are looking for a second chance romance. Get to one clicking this one. I love second chance romance books, and this one is now top on my list.
Megan just wants a week away with her girlfriends to recharge and get her mind back on track to write her book. But fate and her meddling friends have something completely different in store from her. Her ex that she has not seen since the breakup is now spending the week in the exact same cabin thanks to a booking mix-up. But really was it a mix up?
Carter and Megan did not have a nice breakup. Both of them have been broken hearted and have not healed. So, seeing each other after all this time is not top on the Christmas wish list. Megan wants nothing to do with him, and Carter is just bitter. But will these two be able to see that there is something still there between them?
I love that a massive snowstorm is what brings these two together of course forced proximity always helps. But Sara wrote this storyline with some depth, and you easily learn to hate the characters but grow to love them. This was a very cute enjoyable enemies to lovers, slow burn, second chance storyline that had me turning the pages to see what was going to happen.

I received an advance copy of this book. I'm under no obligation to leave a review and my review has not been solicited. My review is my opinion and my opinion only.

A charming and sweet second chance romance. Megan and three of her friends are off to Lake Tahoe for a writer retreat and holiday getaway. After their white knuckle drive through a snowstorm, they get to their rented cabin and settle in. Just when they begin to relax the door opens and three guys walk in. One Megan hoped to never see again. Carter her ex-boyfriend, who broke her heart five years ago, entered with his two best friends. Apparently the cabin was double booked accidentally. With no other places available and storm settling in, they had no choice but to share the cabin. Fortunately, it was big enough to spread out.
The story is cute and delightfully romantic. The setting is beautiful and the camaraderie between characters is fun and engaging. One thing that bothered me was too much consumption of alcohol, but I’m sure most people are fine with that. It didn’t create any ruckus behavior and the story was able to stay a clean romance.
I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Both Megan and Carter are broken-hearted after their break-up 5 years ago.
There’s been a mix-up with their bookings, and they’re stuck on a mountain, in a storm, with their friends.

Now, the background just downright pissed me off. We don’t get the full story until the closing chapters, and frankly, he’s an a-z. I feel that this big revelation should have happened way earlier...
In his quest for success, he tried to destroy hers and wondered why she left him.

Without the forced proximity, a second chance would never have occurred, because he saw absolutely nothing wrong with his actions at all, and just saw her as the hysterical girlfriend who should just accept what he wants… Then, the nastiness in the cabin? Red flag for me.
I couldn’t connect with them as a couple, because I don’t truly believe that he loves her…

Objectively, the writing was very good, and the story flowed well. It’s just hard to truly get into the story when you don’t really like the MMC…

A Tahoe Getaway Gone Wrong (In the Best Way)

Megan & Carter’s winter getaway takes a sharp left turn when they realize they’ve double booked their dream cabin… with their exes—and the wildly entertaining crew that comes with them. What unfolds is a heartfelt second-chance story wrapped in snow, forced proximity, & a big lesson in communication. This book is such a good reminder of how important it is to have a supportive crew—the kind that wants the best for you, but also pushes you into uncomfortable growth. As they try to make the best of a very awkward situation, they collect both hilarious & not-so-fun winter memories along the way. I laughed, cried, got annoyed with the characters (in the best way), & felt like I was right there in a Lake Tahoe cabin with them. Double Booked is an absolute must-read, & I cannot wait for the rest of Sara Coombes’ Tahoe Christmas Collection to be released.

All the feels of a Hallmark Christmas movie in a book you won't want to put down until it's finished (and then you'll want another book about each of the friends).

The characters are believable and, at times, downright annoying (here's looking at you, Carter), but you'll love them anyway. All of them!

The imagery is perfect, and while I've never been to Tahoe, it was very easy to paint a picture in my mind of the locations and 'see' what was happening.

I was provided with a copy to read prior to publication, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

If you love a sweet, forced proximity, enemies to lovers, slow-burn second-chance romance, this book needs to be added to your Christmas reading list asap!

Double Booked by Sara Coombes

This was such a cute Christmas romance! I loved every bit of it!

Megan is a kickass self-published writer who has made it all on her own. She never planned on going it alone, but after Carter broke her heart 5 years ago, she’s showing the world that she didn’t need him…. Or so she thought.

I loved the fact that the friends in these 2 groups had such an active role in the books! And man, that extra chapter from Brock’s POV!!! I didn’t expect that!

This is absolutely a must read if you love cozy Christmas romances ❤️

🎁 Dual POV
🎄Christmas Romance
🎁 Reunited
🎄 Forced Proximity
🎁 Meddling Friends
🎄 Second Chance Romance

Definitely one I’ll be recommending for this upcoming cold season!

This such a great read!! Very clean, but also very captivating! I love how the characters developed, and the emotions they struggled with. The setting is beautiful, Tahoe is one of my most favorite places. The perfect setting for a romance!!
This is a must read! The perfect amount of Hallmark, without being too Hallmarky!
Can’t wait for the movie!

Wholesomely captivating.

Holiday fun, comedy, personal growth, and honest support. Not always something you expect when exes are involved. I really enjoyed this slow-burn romantic delight. I’m not a big fan of the cold, but I grew up in Washington and appreciate the beauty of snow and hot cocoa during the holidays.

Charming and heartfelt read

Sara Coombe writes in a fluid, lighthearted way with a healthy dose of humor. The descriptions of the cottage and its surroundings are so vivid that you’ll immediately want to book a seaside holiday yourself. The dialogue is sharp and full of banter, which keeps the story's pace brisk.
