Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.

As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

One Piece, Vol. 73 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next ten chapters (722–731) of the on-going manga series.

This tankōbon continues the Dressrosa Arc. The final block of the Corrida Colosseum begins after Cavendish stopped the crowd from jeering Rebecca, which she manages to defeat her opponents by tripping them out of the ring. The defeated fighters of the previous block are dumped on in a pit full of toys with the others. Later on, Luffy and Bartolomeo meet someone who has been long believed to be dead.

Meanwhile, Zoro and Kin'emon try to find a way to enter the Colosseum to save Luffy, while Violet helps Sanji return to the Thousand Sunny to reunite with Nami and the rest of the crew. Sanji begins a fight with Doflamingo, but was defeated immediately. Before delivering the killing blow, Trafalgar Law came to deflect Doflamingo's attack and returned both Sanji and Caesar back to the ship, telling everyone to go to Zou as soon as possible.

Ricky reveals himself to be Riku Doldo III, the former king of Dressrosa. While Thunder Soldier tells the Straw Hats how the former King Riku lost his throne and the respect of his people – ten years ago.

This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Eiichirō Oda. For the most part it is written and constructed rather well. It continues the Dressrosa Arc, which is divided into three main stories – the Battle Royale that Monkey D. Luffy enters. The second story deals with the Straw Hats and their continuing mission to destroy the SMILE Factory. Lastly, there is a flashback history about Dressrosa and how the king of the island lost the respect of his people.

All in all, One Piece, Vol. 73 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.

This one was pretty cool. We have Luffy continue watching the battle of Rebecca and we learn the history of what happened ten years ago with King Riku and how Doflamingo orchestrated the destruction of his image amidst his people, history of the toys and the tontotta kingdom and how they are planning a resistance and take the fight to him and then next up while others make their way to Zou, some of them stay behind with their new allies to fight Doflamingo and enter Sabo which was a great scene and the big battle and escape is coming! This arc is just becoming epic and the art is next level good handling so many characters!

Oda does it again.

The plot of the Dressrosa arc is thickening well. It's the standard One Piece formula: the Straw Hat crew go to a new island (this time Spanish-themed) that seems nice on the surface but something sinister is bubbling under the surface. Yet, everytime the stakes are raised ever higher. This time with a little fairy revolution. The tournament battle scenes are awesome as well, which is a bit of a manga cliche but well done a testament to One Piece and Oda that it only took 70-odd volumes to do a tournament.

The new revelations about the secret history of the One Piece world are intriguing - the founding of the world government and Celestial Dragons and the connection to bigtime villain Doflamingo oh my! Can't wait to learn more about Trafalgar Law, and that mysterious 'not dead' fellow that got Luffy so emotional on the last page...

It's taking a lot of willpower for me to not illegally skip to the next pirated chapter, and I remain hooked on the official Viz-translated volumes. The following cannot come out fast enough.

Lights, camera, action!
We're not seeing much of Nami, Sanji or Brooke in this part. GLAD of it!
Nami was getting on my nerves. Sometimes the only assets she shows are the ones she shouldn't be showing. And I swear if I had to see Sanji spouting fountains of blood from his nose one more time, I would have made him spout blood out of a lot many more holes than what God intended.

Luffy is still the lovable, rubbery superhero but he isn't the hero this time. The hero is Sanji. And what a twist! I am lapping up the attention that he's getting. Just goes on to show how much potential his character has.

DRESSROSA ARC - PART 3
1. wait, traffy used the substitution jutsu but in reverse. i love this man with all my being. ALSO OMFG, traffy leaving his heart at the ship and putting caesar's heart inside his chest nfgnnhngnhnnhngh he is so smart

2. i also like that law allows the straw hat crew to call him traffy haha

3. i HATE DOFLAMINGOOOOO; his entire shitty spiel with king riku was insanely heartless, but what can you expect from a celestial dragon

4. nobody somehow gives a shit about traffy's plan LMFAO franky wants to help the little people, and luffy and everybody else is like "yep, i'm on board" meanwhile law is losing his mind

5. WHAT THE HELL IS BIG MOM DOING HERE

6. SABO? PLEASE TELL ME IT'S SABO

This MANGA. This manga is one of the best things I read in my entire life. I'm not exaggerating, I read plenty of English (and translated to English) and Arabic books as well as plenty of Mangas, and honestly from all of these... One Piece is the best.

Oda is great in world building. His characters are lovable that even if(and I'm speaking for myself) your favourite characters are not part of the main characters you STILL enjoy the story just as much! Since side characters (unlike MANY books) are strongly connected to the story and they never fade out and never get neglected. One of the reasons you never get bored is because Oda developed these many different friendships until the very latest chapter and every character keeps growing on you, and SEVERAL moments you witness these strong bonds between those characters that either make you extremely happy or just cry your eyes out from the touching and heartbreaking scene. And he manages to create all these unique and interesting people even though he has a large cast already, but you can't help but love them all!

Not only the main characters and their friendships but the sibling's bond as well. For example Ace/Luffy/Sabo.. you know how strong their bond is during the war, you know how deep they are connected once you read the last chapter in this volume.

Other than those things above. The plot! Oh God, the plot! It's perfection. And how Oda connects something from the first chapter to the 500th something chapter and your mind doesn't have the option but blows from awesomeness.

And this volume is one pile of crazyness and wonderfulness. We have all these new creatures and not only ONE but TWO Yonkou's involved somehow into this arc, while the Strawhats have to deal with an Admiral and a Warlord and also trying to aid an uprising to succeed! And in the midst of all this we have this old character coming into the story so the revolutionary army is also involved.

And what's lovely about all this? THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING OF THE NEW WORLD. Just imagine the rest of the story!

2025 reread : if I ever needed proof that Oda is troll the last few pages of this volume would be that proof.
Other important point of this volume : Zoro is so funny. Him wanting to cut into the coloseum had me in giggle. The man is hilarious.
I love seeing the connection between the strawhats. By this point they know how the others work so well that they can just go with the flow at any time (like when Usopp says they are legendary heroes and they all just roll with it, no questions asked).
Lastly : I feel like I forgot to mention him in previous volumes but Bartolomeo is a riot. I love him. He is so stupid. I think visually he would have fit into Kid's crew super well, but since he loves Luffy so much Kid probably wouldn't take him in (though I bet they would be good friends and just fight over that one thing if they met).

I feel like this is slowing down? But the ending totally won me over for reasons ^^

This volume starts off with Chapter 722: The Bloodline of Royalty.

The final round of the tournament begins, and Rebecca is out to prove herself to Soldier-san. I'm kind of impressed by her defense only fighting style. On the other side of the island Ussop, Robin, Franky and the Tontatta tribe are making their final plans to knock out Sugar.

I'll write more when my editing mode hits.
Happy Readings!

Volume 73 – “Operation Dressrosa S.O.P.”
The plan to stop Sugar, the child with the Hobby-Hobby Fruit, begins. Usopp, Robin, and the Tontatta army sneak into the palace. Meanwhile, Doflamingo manipulates the birdcage, trapping the entire island. The threads tighten — allies form, lies are broken, and Luffy starts to gain an army without realizing it.

The plot threads of the Dressrosa arc are coming together, so that means it's simpler and easier to follow right? Eh, not so much and in some ways it's getting even more convoluted (i.e., Oda Sensei threw in the return of the Big Mom pirates, and the (admittedly enjoyable) return of two flashback characters from the Revolutionary Army) but it's still enjoyable. Probably the standout of this volume was the extended flashback showing how Donquixote Doflamingo ousted the Riku family as rulers of Dressrosa. Pretty heinous stuff on par with or beyond what some of the previous villains had done (at least as bad as what the Navy did in Robin’s backstory). The inevitable Luffy vs Mingo showdown will be epic and satisfying to see. The other highlight of the volume was the closing chapter with the revelation that Koala (from the Fish Man Island arc flashbacks) is working for the Revolutionary Army as was Luffy learning that Sabo is alive (his subsequent reaction was both funny and sweet). Looking forward to the next volume and having that interaction explained.

There were a couple of other enjoyable moments from the other characters.

- It’s a bit annoying that the Straw Hats are splitting up with Brook, Nami, and Chopper going to the next island but I really did like Nami’s logic for doing so in order to keep an edge over their enemies.
- Sanji being able to go toe-to-toe for a bit with Mingo was great to see, it’s a bit boring that the main villains take down the other Straw Hats with less difficulty than when they fight Luffy. So nice change of pace.
- While we’re waiting for Luffy vs Mingo, for the moment the fight between Mingo and Traffy was thrilling to see as was Zoro dueling Issho. Issho in general seems like a neat admiral or at least not as bad as the others so I’m curious as to where Oda Sensei is taking his story next (as well as his feelings towards the Straw Hats).
- Usopp getting over his fear when he finds out his enemy is a little girl was hilarious (and probably will be funnier when that attitude blows up in his face)

the crew on sunny was turned back to human. they made their way towards law and Caesar. doflamingo almost intercepted and was stopped by sanji. law and caesar boarded onto sunny, but all of them had to leave via sunny so that doflamingo doesn’t follow them, leaving half of the straw hat crew in dressrosa.

doflamingo was a celestial dragon.

all the losers of the competition were dropped down the rubbish chute. king riku, Rebecca’s grandfather, is still alive!

for 100 years, the dwarfs were enslaved by doflamingo's family. but for the past 800 years, they've been living in peace and no longer slaves during king riku's rule. mr. soldier is rebecca's biological father. years ago, doflamingo told king riku that he would sell him the country for 10 billion belli and king riku tried to get the money from everyone in the country without telling them why. the citizens trusted him and gave them their money. however, he started to slash at his people because he was being controlled by doflamingo. acting as their saviour, doflamingo entered the fight and “defeated” king riku.

VIOLET = VIOLA = REBECCA'S SISTER = MR. SOLDIER'S DAUGHTER = KING RIKU'S GRANDDAUGHTER?????

law is being pummelled by doflamingo, and was captured by the marines/doflamingo. big mom's ship caught up to sunny.

”If we hand over the cards Law tried to protect with his life to the enemy, we'll let him down!

someone was instructed by doflamingo to kill bellamy but bartholomeo saved him.

once they knock out the hobby fruit user (who made them into toys), the toys will become humans again and the rest of dressrosa will regain their memories of the toys.

although luffy really wants to retrieve ace's devil fruit, the situation calls for him to leave the coliseum and save his friends. someone took over luffy's identity as “lucy” while luffy snuck out.

(chapters 722 - 731: 5 stars) fighting for my life trying to remember everyone’s name, though I’m succeeding for the most part. someone from the past appeared at the end of this volume andddd i cannot remember them to save my life, but honestly so many past players are in this arc it’s insane. i’m actually obsessed with this saga and want doflamingo to pay for his crimes. after i think i know what’s going on, there’s another darker layer to unpack. it’s insane.
