My planet made a deal with the ruthless Vandar. Now I belong to the most feared warlord in the galaxy.

It was supposed to be a random lottery with just one unlucky woman chosen to seal the alliance between my frozen outpost and the Vandar warriors. One bride to guarantee we wouldn't betray them to the Zagrath Empire.

But the moment the massive alien walked into my bakery that morning, his golden eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that stole my breath, I knew. Somehow, I knew my life would never be the same.

And I was right.

When my name was called, I was torn from my sisters, my home, and the underground rebellion I'd built in the shadows. Dragged onto a vast warbird, claimed by Raas Wrexonn, the Keth'rax himself. The Scourge.

He told me he saved me. That the Empire had marked me for execution, that taking me was the only way to keep me alive.
I told him I'd never forgive him for it.

But as we're hunted across the galaxy by Imperial forces, as I discover the truth about the war he's fighting and the pain he's buried beneath his ruthless exterior, I'm forced to confront an impossible the alien warlord I’ve vowed to hate might be the only one who truly sees me.

But the Raas wants more than compliance. More than tolerance. He wants me to choose him freely, even though he stole that choice from me.

And the most terrifying part? I'm starting to want that too.

Vanquished is a full-length, sci-fi romance with an HEA and no cheating. It features a fierce heroine, a tortured warlord, and arranged marriage tension hot enough to melt a frozen planet.

If you love dominant alien warriors, abduction-to-seduction romance, and rebel heroines who give as good as they get, you'll love Vanquished, the first book in the War Brides of the Vandar series.

I love sexy aliens and independent heroines. I grew up on Star Trek: Next Generation and Star Wars (and I adore them equally). My favorite superhero is Thor (with Aquaman a close second because, well, Jason Momoa), my favorite dessert is key lime pie (okay, fine, all pie), and I still lament the loss of Firefly.

I live in North Carolina in the US and have one husband, two teenagers, and two neurotic cats. I sometimes wish I could teleport to a holographic space station like the one in my tribute brides series (or maybe vacation at the oasis with the sand planet barbarians). :-) When I'm not writing, I love to paddleboard, dive, travel, and read obsessively!

Genre: Sci-fi Romance

🧠 3/10
Cliffhanger: 4/10
Noteworthy: Book 1 of a series of interconnected standalones. Part of a very expansive universe. Dual first-person POV (Prologue is in 3rd person). Available on KU.

I'm always excited when Tana starts a new series. Her Drexian Academy series is one of my favorites. But this one didn't land as well for me. It very much felt like a setup book because very little happened aside from the main couple bantering about and finding a way to set up future books. The chemistry wasn't there for me with these characters. Honestly the best character here is Kolt because give me an angsty 'I hate humans' alien romance any day of the week. I'm super excited for book 2!

Great start to the series

I loved, loved Jasmine and Wrexxon’s alien-human arranged marriage romance. Once again I was completely absorbed in the Vandar world from the first sentence. These stories are simply unputdownable with the perfect mix of humor, heartwarming love, real life issues, danger, missteps, and spice. I am always a fan of uber protective alpha males when they are paired with smart brave capable females who need loving more than they need rescuing like Jasmine. What’s not to love about kilt wearing Viking warrior aliens with axes and secret squishy hearts for certain women. Yes please. Jasmine is a human woman who lives on the frozen planet of Lexxona. She’s a baker and takes care of her two younger sisters. She’s also a secret resistance fighter. Wrexxon is a Vandar Raas who is known as the Qeth’rex, the Scourge. He and his warbird have come to Lexxona to finalize a deal to defend the planet in exchange for a bride. Jasmine, who has been marked for death by the Empire, is chose. This allows the arrangement to serve two purposes for the Vandar but Jasmine is having none of it and starts the exciting, intense, and surprising journey to their HEA very angry. Despite Jasmine being taken as a war bride, this is not a dubcon or noncon situation. Their relationship develops organically without forced intimacy. The story was well written and included engaging dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and a captivating storyline with all the good elements that you’d expect from this genre - fighting, dangerous situations, alien physiology and cultures, evil actors, loyal friends, painful pasts, drama, snark, mystery, plot twists, and laughs. As always with this author, the development of interesting secondary characters was quite good and has me excited for more books with these characters in starring roles. I am so happy to be back in the Vandar world. I love these leather kilt wearing warriors.

OMG, I got a lot of adult Hunger Game vibes from this story. Jasmine is chosen as the war bride for her community, ripping her away from her home and sisters. But all is not as it seems, she was part of a rebellion and slated to be eliminated, so by being chosen she was actually saved. I loved watching Wraxxon, known as the Scourge. He's a big bad warrior, who just so happens to want his bride to choose him and will do everything in his power to gain her trust and love. These two may start off as enemies, but they both fall quickly and are willing to do what it takes not only to be together, but to save all those they love and protect. Loved their HEA and peek at the next story. Amazing start to a great new series.

I thought Jasmin and Wrexxon's story was great. The combination of romance, action and drama is smart and holds your attention while giving your heart a workout and causing your pulse to race. The thrills and feels here are both ample and super enjoyable. Awesome start to a new series that I found irresistible. Really looking forward to book two and other future entries.

As a long-standing fan of Tana Stone, I was excited to go back to the world of the Vandar, and this book was a great addition! It was schmexy, seductive, and had delicious pining between the MCs. The arranged marriage trope was well-done, and the heroine was tough and doing her best to resist the MMC... But we all know resistance is futile against a tailed, kilt-wearing, axe-wielding muscled warlord in space who wants to make you his xD

***MINOR SPOILERS***
This book is the first in the War Brides of Vandar series. The series is a spin off series of the Raider Warlords of the Vandar. I think it takes place about 10 years after that series ends.
I thought I would try a new author and was disappointed. I do not recommend this book.
Jasmine is a rebel leader on a planet with a small population. It seemed that most of the rebels were women. It was a little unbelievable that she was a rebel leader as she had no sense of strategy and tactics after she became a war bride to Wrexxon. And, even more, she could potentially have useful information about the rebellion that could be used in a joint effort, but neither of them seems to think of it until later in the book and in a limited way. Everything she did seemed reactive and undisciplined. Jasmine swears that she will resist him but is hit with insta-lust and gives in to him so fast you have whiplash.
Wrexxon’s people offer protection to planets in order to grow their influence and to raise up a rebellion against the Imperial army. To secure the alliance, leaders take a war bride to ensure the cooperation of the local people. Jasmine has been chosen from her planet because she is a rebel leader and also because, when Wrexxon meets her, he is immediately attracted to her. I believe he is considered a warlord because he is the captain of a huge battleship that seems like it is the size of a city.
Wrexxon has dominant tendencies and orders Jasmine around. When she does not agree, at one point, he picks her up and carries her. Before they have s*x the first time, he tells her that she needs to beg him for s*x. None of the warriors on the ship are mentioned to be women.
There wasn’t much of a story line and there was little to no relationship development. The POV switches between Jasmine and Wrexxon. The book happens over a short period of time.
Note for some: Wrexxon has a tail and he uses it for s*x.
At one point, Jasmine is put in a seat belt type contraption but cannot get herself out of it. It did not make her seem very bright.
Jasmine comes from a very cold planet. She is wearing a dress the day she is taken as a war bride. It seemed surprising that she would not have been bundled up more. Also, after she is selected as a war bride, she is not allowed to take anything or to say goodbye to her family and friends. Wrexxon immediately takes her to his ship. Given that the purpose of securing war brides is to grow the Vandar’s alliances with various planets, you would have thought they would make it seem a little less like a kidnapping.
There were a couple of funny lines I liked.
I also liked this line that Wrexxon said, “I would burn the entire galaxy for you if you asked me to.”
Small nitpick: it seemed strange that the ship was built so that you would have to jump from spot to spot to traverse from one location to another.
Another nitipick: when Wrexxon and the Vandar left Jasmine’s planet, it did not seem that they left a mechanism in place for the people of the planet to contact them if there was trouble. If your reason for taking a war bride is to establish an alliance, wouldn’t you do so?
The “hero” of the next book is Kolt. He is a warrior/battle chief on Wrexxon’s team. Twice during this book, he said things that I found offensive and I do not plan to read his book. First, when one of Jasmine’s friends tries to rescue her, he disarms her (Skye) and then says “What if I don’t want to let you go”. To Wrexxon, who is watching, it is merely a way for Kolt to instill fear, but it is not a lovely thing to say and implies violence. Note: Kolt and Skye are the main characters of the second book in the series. Second, when Wrexxon says this, “I have no intention of forcing myself on the female” (meaning Jasmine), Kolt replies “She is your war bride. No one would blame you…” R*pe is implied.
I do not plan to continue reading the series or the author.

🔥 “You were always meant to be mine, Jasmine.”
~~~
The Vandar are back and I couldn’t be more excited about it!!!
Jasmine is amazing! She’s kind, compassionate and caring. Even more, she’s stubborn, resourceful and resilient. Living on an ice planet hasn’t made her life easier. And being the leader of the resistance against the Zagrath Empire, shows that she’s tougher and more courageous than she might appear at first sight. Jasmine is an incredible woman and a total badass and I loved her so, so much!
And then, there’s Raas Wrexonn - the Qeth’rex, the Scourge! Wrexonn is deadly, fearsome, possessive, bossy and powerful. Even more, this Vandar is one confident, fiercely protective, considerate and delightfully dominant male. And that filthy mouth of his! Raas Wrexonn is one utterly irresistible Vandar and I couldn’t help but adore every single thing about him!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Jasmine and Raas Wrexonn! To strengthen the alliance between the Vandar and the colonies from the Outer Rim, it’s decided that the Vandar, through lottery, will take war brides. And Jasmine’s name was (not so randomly) chosen to be the one to become Raas Wrexonn’s bride.
I adored Wrexonn and Jasmine together! Their chemistry was off-the-charts from the start. And their banters, teasing and bickering were a delight to read. It was a pure pleasure witnessing their battle of wills. Even more, I loved Jasmine’s courage to challenge the fearsome Rass, when everyone else didn’t dare disobey him. I also loved how supportive and quite understanding they were of one another. And when they finally gave into the undeniable attraction, the passionate moments they shared were scorching hot! What can I say… those Vandar warriors definitely know how to make a woman melt. Jasmine and Wrexonn were absolutely perfect for one another and I couldn’t get enough of either of them!
In addition, the storyline was fantastic! The Zagrath might’ve been defeated but they’re far from gone. With all the suspense, dangerous missions and unexpected turns of events, I was glued to the pages till the very end. Even more, I loved meeting so many awesome characters - Jasmine’s sisters and the other women part of the underground rebellion, Raas Wrexonn’s majak and his battle chief - I’m pretty sure I’m going to love them even more in the next stories!
Overall, Vanquished is a spectacular start of the series! It’s filled with non-stop action, danger, suspense, twists, bits of humor, smoking-hot passion and awesome characters.
I couldn't put it down and absolutely loved every single page of it!
And, with that ending, I cannot wait to see what happens next!
I’ve missed the Vandar and this new series does not disappoint! Kratos & his brother Kaalek are both Raas (the title for a Warlord). Now that they are mated and have children of their own, they are pretty much retired, but there is a council meeting of the retired warlords and much like the Marines, a Raas is always a Raas. The topic of the convo is that the Zagrath are not as weakened as they all had hoped and they are making a come back and causing problems once again on many worlds. Raas Wrexxon, the Qeth’rex (The Scourge), is one of the younger warlords that have devised a new strategy to weaken the Zagrath Empire and gain allegiances from the colonies and outposts on the Outer Rim, by taking War Brides.
One of those colonies is Lexxona, who have made a deal with Raas Wrexxon and he will be getting a war bride. The Vandar had received word that one of the people on that colony is a rebel that has caused a lot of problems for the Zagrath Empire and finding out her reasoning was heartbreaking. At first, she is livid that she was chosen, because her rebels as well as her sisters need her. Jasmine is amazing. She truly is a hero and takes good care of her sisters and people and that is why she is wanted by the Zagrath. So, she is chosen by Wrexxon to be his War bride and I love her sisters, Kaya and Brielle, as they are a riot, as are her friends who is her rebel cell.
Wrexxon’s Battle Chief is Kolt, and he doesn’t much like humans, you’ll see why. The first officer or majak is Venik and I love him too. How the top three Vandar work together is just amazing, as the older books’ top three. Jasmine doesn’t make anything for Wrexxon easy and he enjoys the challenge she gives him. I found myself sitting there is awe at Jasmine’s strength of will. When they finally talk (not arguing, lol) they begin to see that they have some things in common. The book is exciting, fun, funny, has a few sweet and romantic spots. Loads of steamy ones, and some scary ones as well. The fight scenes are freaking awesome and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Looks like the most unlikely couple is up next.
I cried a few times as well as chewing on my nails and needing the AC on for all the reasons. I defo recommend that if you haven’t read the other Vandar books, you should. You will enjoy them. They have tails and are stubborn as all get out as well as Alphas. lol.
What an excellent start to Tana’s new series! I absolutely loved Jasmine and Wrexonn’s romance and story🥹 This was fast paced and exciting and even with it being on the shorter side, it felt like a fully fleshed out novel that set up an incredible series!
Jasmine is an amazing FMC and I loved how brave, compassionate, and caring she was - the chemistry between her and Wrexonn was off the charts amazing!! I couldn’t get enough of them! They had this immediate connection and undeniable chemistry. Jasmine was resistant at first, because she didn’t understand the reason why Wrexonn took her as his bride. She’s part of a rebel movement against Zagrath, the enemy empire, and they had her marked for execution, which Wrexonn and his crew were aware of. This resistance on Jasmine’s end created a really delicious push and pull between the two of them and when Wrexonn reveals the reason WHY she was picked in the bride lottery, that’s when we really start to see her walls come down around him.
Wrexonn is just the perfect broody, strong, possessive Alien MMC we love to see! He loved that Jasmine didn’t back down from him and always spoke her mind around him. He’s surprisingly vulnerable around her and I think they really brought out the best in each other. They were perfect for each other! She challenged him in every way and it created such an amazing tension that I just couldn’t get enough of!
With the way this one ended, I cannot wait for the next book in the series! The couple that we’re going to be with in the next book already has the most amazing chemistry (they meet in Book 1) and I can’t wait to see how their story plays out!
Book One in a New Vandar Series
I absolutely loved this first book in the new War Brides of the Vandar series. They thought the Zagrath Empire had been defeated, but that is not the case. They may have been severely damaged, but they are back and hoping the Vandar don’t notice until it’s too late.
Raas Wrexxon, otherwise know as the Scourge, has noticed the Empire’s new strategy. Take over distant planets in the Outer Rim where they think no one will notice. Wrexxon has a plan. Help keep these planets safe, but at the cost of one “war bride”. His theory is with one of their own females in his warbird, that will guarantee their loyalty. When he is secretly given a copy of the Empire’s hit list and he see’s the top person is a female from Lexxona, a frozen planet, he figures that is perfect! He will start with that planet and save the female. Little did he know what he was getting himself into!
Jasmine runs a bakery with her two sisters on Lexxona. Her two goals in life are to finish raising her sisters after her parents were killed by the Empire, and lead the resistance fighters against the Empire. She thinks she and her friends have been careful with their quiet sabotage of the Empire Vessels every time they come to Lexxona to collect the taxes the citizens have to pay. When she is chosen as the token war bride in a not so random lottery of all the eligible females, she is spitting mad! She will show that Vandar warloard just how uncooperative a human female can be. Who cares how hot he is!
These two are so perfect together! He is used to everyone following his orders without question. That is so not going to happen with Jasmine and he doesn’t quite know how to handle her! The action is fast and furious and sometime down right funny! Don’t miss this great book! Can’t wait for the next one!.
“He has conquered entire alien fleets, in time he will conquer her too “
I loved every second of reading this book, I didn’t want to put it down and who would when your have kilt wearing warriors that are possessive of their females.
Jasmine the responsible one who is looking after her sisters after their parents were taken by the Zagrath an enemy to her home world. The Vander are offering her people protection from the Empire but want something in return. Their warlord Wrexxon is there to take a warbride for himself through a lottery system.
When Jasmine sees Wrexxon first his golden eyes took her breath away, her knees wobble and her heart races. When Wrexxon sees her, he knew he would do anything to have her, to take her with him. Her beauty knocked him off balance.
He loves the way she challenges him, doesn’t fear him. Jasmine was furious about the lottery and that she was going to be Wrexxons but she wasn’t going to make it easy for him.
He wanted her willingly not unwilling he wouldn’t force himself on her that’s not the Vandar way. He tells her the real reason why he saved her life and she couldn’t believe that he would risk not only his life but the life of his warriors to keep her safe.
Eventually her walls come down and when he kisses her she surrenders to him, realising she is falling for him. She drove Wrexxon made with desire.
He fell for her the first moment he saw her the way she challenged him showed him no fear he relished this.
“I would burn the entire galaxy if you asked me to”
The chemistry between Jasmine and Vander 🥵how protective and possessive he is of her and he would do any thing to keep her safe, with Jasmine he found tenderness and gentleness. If you want a spicy alien romance where the MMC worships the FMC I highly recommend this.
She is now and forever, his mate.
The Vandar are back and they are as fierce as ever! Right from the very start, my Vandar loving heart was SO HAPPY! We get to see Raas Katos and Raas Kaleek again! This book takes place 10 years after Raider Warlords of the Vandar, but can still be read as a new series. Still, this book felt nostalgic in some ways that I got to almost relive meeting the Vandar for the first time in a way.
When Raas Wrexxon and Jasmine first meet, sparks fly despite their uncertainty of one another. The tension and chemistry between them was undeniable, even if Jasmine was trying to fight it. She is such a rebellious, fierce and spirited character that is so loveable. Wrexxon on the other hand is a smoking hot, possessive piece of alien man candy. Who wouldn't want to lick his abs? He was a little morally grey at times, borderline being a villain. Buuut, he also always put Jasmine's best interests first, prioritizing her safety and ultimately her happiness.
I loved the push and pull between Wrexxon and Jasmine. It was almost like a battle of wills mixed with Jasmine's denial that Wrexxon was her fated mate. It definitely made their spicy time extremely steamy! I loved seeing how things clicked into place for them and how they fell in love.
I also loved getting to be back on a warbird again. Between the raid, the intergalactic battle and the conflict at the end, this book was action packed! If you haven't read this series of Tana Stone's Raider Warlords of the Vandar, I highly suggest reading them! They're both equally as excellent!🛸
I want to thank Tana Stone for the opportunity to read this ARC early and for making my little alien heart feel so happy and full reading this! My thoughts and opinions are my own in this review.
Once again Tana stone starts a new series featuring a new generation of vandal raas with a good book. While this once happens very fast which was a bit surprising the details and world building was excellent. Jasmine is the leader of a resistance movement on a very poor frozen mining planet that’s mostly forgotten. She’s feisty, caring, strong, no nonsense and determined. To save her wrexxon rigs a lottery to take her as his war bride and she’s spitting mad and not about to go quietly. Using her as insurance the planet will stay loyal to the vandal as they provide protection. But she soon learns the truth which changes things. She also starts seeing him in a different light and the chemistry is high. Wrexxon is trying to save jasmine from execution but upon meeting her is instantly entranced. Very quickly he falls under her spell which causes its own issues. They must work together to save other humans while navigating this new world they find themselves in.
My only complaint is it kind of happened a bit too fast. Jasmine submitted way quicker than her character should have with the way she was written and there really wasn’t much conflict between them. He kind of fell instantly. Wasn’t a ton of plot to create emotional highs and lows. Even the after rescue scene fell kind of flat for detail and content skipping over healing and stuff that was important to story. It set up next book easily but a bit more tweaking, more content and more conflict and angst would have improved it. Almost read like an instalove.
🌟ARC REVIEW🌟
“You think you can resist me, little rebel? I’ve conquered entire alien fleets. In time, I’ll conquer you too.”
Although I have read many of Tana Stones novels previously, this is my first encounter with the Warlords of the Vandor and it absolutely did not disappoint! I’m not sure I’ve ever devoured a book so quickly before. It absolutely delivered exactly what I like best: fast-paced sci-fi romance, strong chemistry between FMC and MMC, high stakes and a world whose imagery a reader can immerse themselves in. This is a wonderful start to Tana Stones new instalment of her Vandor series, War Brides of the Vandor. It blends action, tension, and an emotional payoff in a way that keeps the pages turning.
The FMC is resilient without being unrealistic or flawless, she has a strength that draws the MMC to her on first sight. The MMC brings that classic warrior, “don’t mess with me” vibe. He’s dominant, battle-hardened, and instantly recognises the magnetic attraction between them, and although he’s fiercely protective, he instinctively understands her need to be involved at every step of their journey. Their dynamic is a clash of wills that evolves into something genuinely meaningful.
My view: The plot moves at a sharp pace, balancing the romantic aspects with the external conflict nicely, and while the sci-fi elements are not overwhelming, they don’t feel secondary to the story. There’s the obvious danger from the Empire, power struggles between the main characters, as well as tension to keep things interesting, alongside the heat readers expect from this author. Also, kilt wearing, axe wielding warriors…yup, this is a bit of me!
I loved the Raider Warlords Of the Vandar series so was super excited to get more Vandar stories with this series. After the first two chapters is where things started going downhill for me. The words were all there and the story between Jasmine and Wrexxon should have had the same magic with the exception of “Prince” in the Warlords collection which seemed to be a disconnect from the other stories in that series. Unfortunately I was mostly underwhelmed with Jasmine and Wrexxon.
Things just felt rushed or off but the chemistry was missing and that delightful push and pull wasn’t there to have me really invest in the characters. When I read a book in between a book that’s telling that I’m not invested in what’s happening to the characters. Like I said all of the words were there and maybe it felt like a bit of each story that I had already read of the previous series on top of that the super cheesy sexy time talk and I skipped pages. With the exception of “Prince” I hadn’t skipped pages before with the Vandar and was disappointed with the start of this series. Hopefully the next one gets things back on track.
The best part was getting a little update on Kratos and Kaalek and what they have been up to.
While not a bad read it was just an average read with nothing that really stands out for me with the characters except for a bit of childishness on both of their parts.
Vanquished is book 1 of Tana Stone’s new series War Brides of the Vandar. The main and minor characters are well-developed and interesting. As alien soldiers, the Vandar protect those of space who cannot protect themselves. They are tough, honorable beings who get the job done, and their job is to vanquish the Imperial soldiers of the Empire who are trying to take over the universe’s resources and subjugate all sentient beings. Raas Wrexxon is the newest leader who has made a name for himself through his fighting skills. His enemies call him Qeth’rex—The Scourge. He meets and takes Jasmine as his war bride when he learns that her name is on an Empire kill list. She’s a baker who leads a rebel group against the Imperials. And so begins Wrexxon’s real war; it’s one with the opposite sex, and he cannot use brute force to triumph. The Raas leader must use tact and diplomacy because she is a fighter who is determined to win. The story is good, and the characters’ strong personalities make the tension an exciting adventure of male versus female. Will Wrexxon and Jasmine fall in love? Will they be able to save their friends? Will they save her sisters? Only time will tell, and I cannot wait to read the next book in this series. I received an ARC, and I am giving my honest review.
Raas Wrexonn is a terrifying Vandar warlord, determined to completely defeat the Zagrath Empire. Jasmine is fiery, compassionate, and just as determined to keep the people she loves safe from the Zagrath. Her life is ripped out from under her by a rigged bride lottery, but instead of folding, she fights back, not willing to make life easy for him as his war bride.
Jasmine challenges Wrexonn at every turn, even when he offers her protection, choices, and truths she never expected. Wrexonn is lethal, powerful, and unexpectedly vulnerable when it comes to Jasmine. The tension and chemistry between them sizzles from the first encounter.
I was fully invested from the beginning—not just in their love story, but in the expanding universe of the Vandar. I can't wait to see what happens next! A fantastic read for fans of the Raider Warlords of the Vandar series and for anyone looking for a blend of sci-fi adrenaline and emotional romance; you will enjoy this return of those dangerously sexy warlords!.
Vanquished
It's always fun to return to the Vandar. It's not quite next generation from the original series but these are newer, younger characters. I liked the intro from the OG's and I loved the rebel baker that is the MFC.
What warrior doesn't want to be described like this,
“Maybe your eyes aren’t working properly, but the Vandar who just left was hotter than our bread ovens.”
And his description of her,
“Her jaw was set. Her eyes were blazing. Every line of her body screamed fury barely contained. She was magnificent.”
The fate of the council leaders is deserved after treating women like they have no rights or choice,
“...serve as some kind of living insurance policy for an alliance I'd had no voice in negotiating.”
Her attempt at seduction is hilarious,
“Wasn't seduction supposed to be more straightforward? Shouldn’t there be less debate?”
And their wedding is right in line with this
“For a wedding ceremony, there was considerably more yelling than I’d expected.”
**ARC Review**
Jasmine has three priorities: bake bread, take care of her sisters, bring down the empire that killed her parents. She's content with keeping her head down and focusing on what needs to be done.
Then the Vandar come to town. Raas Wrexxon is huge and mean and gorgeous as sin, and Jasmine doesn't know if she can keep her eyes in her head when he walks into her bakery.
But obviously, the Vandar aren't on her home planet just for bread. They came to help protect everyone from the Empire, and also to claim a war bride. After a rigged lottery sends Jasmine aboard the Vandar warbird to become the Raas's warbride, she will have to figure out if the fire inside of her is only hatred for her unwanted circumstances, or something else entirely.
Vanquished is a sweet and spicy enemies-to-lovers alien romance novel. I recommend it for anyone who wants their heroes to be dangerous and take charge, and heroines who aren't afraid to stand up for what they believe in.
I might not be the hero she'd envisioned for herself, but I would happily be the villain who took her, anyway.
4 stars
This was an adventurous and sexy start for another series by Tana Stone! I was so happy to be back in the world of these alien raiders. These Vandar know how to get under a girl's skin, and Wrexxon definitely made a notable first impression on Jasmine. Both were reluctantly intrigued by the other when they first met and unwilling to admit that there were feelings developing between them. There was plenty of action and romance to keep the story moving, and I cannot wait to see where Kolt's story takes us next🖤
Tropes: hate-to-love-you, arranged marriage, obsessed protective hero, headstrong heroine, forced proximity, he falls first, bride lottery, hurt/comfort, only one bed, slow burn, steamy🔥
I absolutely loved this first book in the new War Brides of the Vandar series. Jasmine is running a bakery with her two sisters who she has been raising since their parents passed. She is helping to organise the rebellion against the Empire and thinks that she’s got away with it, but when she is forced to participate in the war rides lottery, she is furious when she learns that she used to be the bride of Raas Wrexonn - the Qeth’rex, the Scourge! I loved the chemistry between the two of them and loved how Jasmin showed Wrexonn that she wasn’t going to just lay down and take it, she had spirit and determination. I enjoyed the way the story progressed and how their love grew for each other. I’m really looking forward to reading the book in the series.
I was super excited to find out we were getting more of the Vandar as I loved the Warlords series! Vanquished however, although an interesting story, felt a little too quick paced.
The entire story takes place over just a few days and so much of it, from the key events of the plot to the development of the characters, their emotions and mate connection, just felt rushed. Adding to that, Wrexxon employed some seriously questionable tactics at times for an experienced warlord, and I felt there was a plot hole that left us with unanswered questions. Unfortunately by the end I was left feeling a little frustrated about it all - I wanted more.
I am intrigued by the set up for Kolt’s story next though, which I plan to read, and I hope the series will proceed with a bit more finesse.
They're baaaack! And OMG am I glad! I love the Vandar Raiders. This is the perfect example of why I love them. Jasmine is THE perfect War Bride for Wrexxon.. The Scourge. Unlike everyone else in the galaxy, she isn't afraid to give him a piece of her mind or push him. He is everything a Warlord should be, smart, powerful, and cares about the hoard above all else...well until he meets Jasmine anyway. I loved everything about Vanquished...the characters are awesome, the world building is outstanding, the story itself is spectacular!  I cannot wait for Kolt and Skye's book. I can only imagine the fireworks that are going to happen between those two! This book is 5 stars for every aspect of it!
Vanquished by Tana Stone is a wonderful sci-fi romance. It is action packed and filled with intergalactic fights and spice that will have you swooning.
The story follows Wrexxon, an alien warlord and Jasmine, a human baker and rebel leader who is taken to be his ward bride.
Jasmine is stubborn, fierce, and snarky. I loved that she was not afraid of Wrexxon.
Wrexxon is one of the most feared warriors. He is so protective, especially of Jasmine.
The moment these two met there was already a spark. Jasmine tried to fight their attraction throughout the story but Wrexxon was already a goner the moment he saw Jasmine.
From beginning to end you are going to be captivated by the world and characters the author created.
I can't wait for book two!
Thank you to the author for an eARC of this title.
Tana Stone's Vanquished continues the story of the mighty leather kilt wearing Vandar warriors fighting against the Empire. Wrexxon is the next generation Vandar warrior heading to a human outpost to save a human female rebel that the Empire is after. Once he meets her, he's enthralled, wanting her as his Raisa. Jasmine is the leader of the resistance and is ready to kick Wrexxon's butt, except he is so handsome, she loses that focus. The two smolder until they come together in a hot affair. On a raid to save her sisters and other rebels, the Empire nearly wins, causing harm to Wrexxon and capturing his second in command and Jasmine's bestie. I can't wait for the next installment.
Be still my heart, the Vandar have returned!
Vanquished is the first book in the new war brides series and the first of many I hope.
Vandar Raas Wrexonn, known as the scourge far and wide has been insuring loyalty from human outposts by taking war brides drawn by a lottery and MFC Jasmine has just become an unlucky winner, and not a happy camper!
But resisting the lure of one of these alphas is darn near impossible and what a bumpy spicy ride this one was and I loved it all from the wonderful writing, great characters, to the action and adventure, intrigue, drama, steam, and that amazing Vandar tail.
Can’t wait for more!.
Tana Stone has delivered a blockbuster hit with Vanquished, the thrilling debut of The War Brides of Vandar series.
I've been eagerly awaiting this series, and it completely exceeded expectations! The story centers on an explosive arranged marriage between Jasmine and the fierce Warlord Wrexonn. Their sizzling, undeniable chemistry is the stuff of fantasy, making every interaction a pleasure to read. Beyond the romance, the action is non-stop: an exciting, high-stakes space chase keeps them moving across the galaxy, constantly dodging relentless Imperial forces.
This compelling, edge-of-your-seat tale proves why I'm devoted to the Vandar universe. Highly recommended—I'm counting down the days until the next book!
An amazing story. Jasmine took over the bakery after her parents died along with her two sisters. She also leads the rebellion against the Zagrath Empire who are responsible for her parents death. Wrexxon is a Vandar Raas and is on his way to Lexxona to save a rebel who is on the Imperial execution list. The moment he sees Jasmine he is determined to keep her safe and takes her as his warbride. Jasmine vows never to fall for the Vandar responsible for taking her away from her sisters. But when she finds out his reason for taking her she starts to understand. Wrexxon is ready to make Jasmine his Raisa, but will Jasmine accept? Loved reading their story. Thanx.
I am so happy that the Vandar are back. This new generation is everything you want and more. Rass Wrexxon is powerful but also has a softer side that just makes you melt.
The first book in the War Brides of the Vandar series is without a doubt an amazing story. The instant connection between the Qeth'rex and Jasmine is emotional. The turmoil that envelops them is a battle of the wills. Beautiful and heartwarming. This page turner leaves you wanting more. 💜💜🔥
The continuing fight against the Empire is back in full throttle.
"’Let me show you that being mine doesn't mean being owned… It means being worshipped.’” 😋
Vanquished follows Jasmine and Wrexxon as he saves her from death by taking her as a war bride. I was immediately hooked with the politics of this universe and who doesn’t love a bad boy alien warlord WITH A TAIL 🫦 if you like your aliens with a more humanesque appearance with fun appendages, then this is the book for you. It flew by and once the tension snapped between Jasmine and Wrexxon, it was HOT. I loved how badass Jasmine was, she held her own and we love a powerful FMC 👏🏼 and the spice? Absolutely delicious. Reading this makes me want to go back to the original series and binge it, and then binge Tana’s backlist!
Thank you, Tana Stone, for the ARC!
