The worst moment of her life became a viral video sensation. Now, she has to pick up the pieces and start again.
Stacy Parker is totally over her divorce. The fact that her cheating ex-husband and his affair partner are getting married less than a year later?
No sweat.
Until an… unfortunate… encounter between the three of them goes viral, and Stacy is forced to lock herself in her house. Quite possibly forever.
When her best friend offers her a chance to lick her wounds at a little house by the water on charming Sunflower Beach, Stacy decides to take her up on it. At least on the island, she has less chance of running into someone who recognizes her. She should have known it was all too good to be true. When Stacy arrives in Sunflower Beach and discovers that she has a housemate who’s less than enthusiastic about her presence, she almost tosses her suitcase back in the car before she’s even had a chance to unpack.
But it’s a good thing she doesn’t, because this summer has more than a few surprises in store for her.
Lose yourself in the saltwater days and firefly nights of Sunflower Beach, where a cast of unforgettable characters help each other navigate love and loss, hope and heartache, found family, and second chances. This romantic women’s fiction series is suitable for all ages, and is best read in order.
This is a predictable romance with all of the ingredients for a stereotypical love story, but it was also a lyrically told tale of lonely people coming together to help each other heal. This makes the book readable for me.
I never heard of sunflowers growing on a beach, but they grew all around this beautiful beach house. Stacy's best friend April had inherited it recently from a distant aunt, Sharon. When she saw how distressed Stacy was due to her husband leaving her for a younger woman, she thought that some time at the beach would be healing.
I could picture myself sitting in the rocking chair on the back patio reading, dozing in and out while gazing at a sea of sunflowers ending in swaying dune grass. The rocking of the wicker chair and the sun warming her all the way through with the lapping of water healing ones battered, weary soul is so real to me.
Stacy quickly discovers that she has a roommate, and this should have been a gorgeous, unmarried man. Instead, it was gray-haired seventy years old Arthur, the caretaker who wasn't talkative and didn't want her there.
But as Stacy sobs on the beach, she meets a man her age who kindly carves a phoenix out of driftwood as a gift to her, so romance is still in her future.
Tessa, the owner of the coffee shop called The Salty Mug, was charming. As delicious as her coffee was, her muffins were a disaster. Tessa had seen the video of Stacy dumping shrimp cocktail all over her husband's new bride, who was a demanding, entitled bitch. She thought of Stacy as a hero Unfortunately, the video of the incident went viral, and Stacy became known as Shrimp Girl.
Predictably, since Stacy worked for a caterer, she bakes good muffins, and she runs into the kind man for whom she immediately feels sparks. Of course, Joel is the local carpenter who fixes her front porch after Arthur falls.
Arthur has a heart of gold under his crusty exterior - you get the gist. As it happens, Joel has a nine year old daughter, Kenzie, who wants to learn how to bake.
Tessa introduces Stacy to Layla. They form a club called the Silver Lining Society for women who have survived rotten men. The women decide to have a healing event for women of the village. It will be named the Ex-orcismn. Stacy agreed to cater the event. They would not only throw an object representing a bad time into a bonfire, there would be a letter written to anyone who had hurt the individual. It would be burned in the fire also.
Joel reappeared after a two week absence with picnic tables for the event. Stacy wouldn't talk to him since she assumed that he was no longer interested in her. The event was enormously successful.
This book ends with Stacy finding Arthur unconscious on the bathroom floor. She and Joel are determined to find their friends missing daughter.
So I have to say a first time for me to be reading a book from this author. I really did enjoy it and found myself laughing at times. I also thought at times oh why haven’t I done that in the past. It would help to let go of the past. I have to say that there was no doubt that it was a series and I am looking forward to the next two books!
What a wholesome small town story. I am so glad that I have read it. The characters are so exciting and interesting. It is filled with so many great characters and I can’t wait to read the next in the series.
I cherished this book and look forward to continuing with the story. I enjoyed the complexity of the characters and lost myself in the beautifully described scenery. Thank you for sharing this story. See you in the next one.
