This a truly dark novel. Someone just hung a priest on a cross, upside down. And there were some very unusual symbols carved in the wood around him. This was a symbol to others that he was unfaithful to GOD. Morgan, an FBI agent, is assigned to the case mainly because her twin brother was abducted, or killed, by someone leaving the same cryptic symbols at his crime scene. There is very little to go on but they finally discovered there were some financial irregularities going on so they chased that angle. But Morgan is chasing the strange symbols and unusual handwriting on the notes that “The Shepard” leaves. I found very little interest in following an uninteresting trail, but I was hoping Morgan would find her brother or at least what happened to him. The irregularities gave Morgan and her partner a trail to follow. But they just lead to another murder.
Our FBI agent, Morgan, still heartbroken about her missing twin brother, has a whole new case to try so hard to solve. Somehow her brother is involved, but how?with her partner, Agent Vasquez, they sift through the clues to a conclusion, but is it the entire answer?
While the writing for this book was very good, the reasoning of the murderer did not make sense. Sometimes letting go is more comforting than going over the past again and again.
Good strong mystery that takes you deep into religion and a lot of inferences. I liked all of the ways the story intermixed with religious symbolism. There were a few times it was repetitive but overall interesting. Not sure if I liked it enough to read another 11 books!
Not my personal favorite. It was heavily set towards a religious cult killer. It did give a reasonable motive, but for me, it was a bit beyond. The actual story development and writing were fine.
Really enjoyed this book. Concept. Good depth. Nice characters. Obviously wound itself up to anticipate a larger series but could be read as a stand alone book.
