What Truth Reveals is an adventurous variation of P&P that kept me glued to the page from beginning to end. This variation gives protagonism not only to Darcy and Elizabeth, but also to Colonel Fitzwilliam and Mary, which I loved!
The plot is unusual but it works, with Mary's and the Colonel's points of view being the ones that interested me the most. Darcy and Elizabeth are early on on their acquaintance and misunderstand each other as expected but they soon reconcile as they need to work together to find out who is behind the kidnappings.
I felt that the initial interactions between Darcy and Elizabeth left a little to be desired compared to their conversations in Pride and Prejudice, but the relationship between the Colonel and Mary was well developed. The idea of Mary hiding her true personality and conforming to what she believed her family wanted was plausible, and the speed with which Richard and Mary fell in love is not uncommon when two people meet in dangerous circumstances. Charlotte’s wisdom in seeing what Elizabeth could not was chef kiss; the friends Darcy contacts for help were a welcome addition, and later, when the Colonel finally joins the group, I couldn't help but be reminded of the League of the Scarlet Pimpernel. I guess Aldry, Peters and Lightcliffe learned a few things from Sir Percy Blakeney.
What Truth Reveals is an imaginative take on Pride and Prejudice, full of action, intrigue, and romance. It completely captivated me.
