There was obviously a careful plot to this spy thriller, but it was hard to hang onto the thread. There were no introductions to the characters or any background information given. Then the timeline was not sequential. One chapter was present day, the next three days ago, the next a couple of years ago such that it was difficult to establish a chronology. That’s a shame as the characters are great, bringing to life the espionage and counterespionage atmosphere in Washington.
