“There’s a cracked-open robin’s egg on the sidewalk, which means either a deep loss or miracle happened here” (3). Novy’s work reads a lot like a Phoebe Bridgers song, which is to say it’s a little millennial but totally poignant. She complimented my boygenius tote at the AWP Button Poetry table, so I know she knows the comparison is a compliment. The longer a poetry collection is, the more it blurs together for me, but good luck in the real world lasts just long enough to endear itself. “robin’s egg blue” and “chosen speed” are highlights.
