Bros and the Witch #1

Do You Even Hex, Bro?

Rate this book
On the run. Running out of power. Claimed by a pack of… himbo wolves?

When I found my boyfriend in bed with his second-in-command, I ran with what little I could stuff into a duffel bag and the dwindling magic in my veins. As a scarred, touch-starved siphon witch who feeds off energy, I need to Bond with another power source—and fast.

What I don't need? Four himbo wolf shifters claiming I'm their fated mate.

The jagged scars on my face are a daily reminder of why I hate shifters, but Stormvale University was the only place I could go where my former coven couldn't touch me. I just wasn't expecting Killian, Rowan, Micah, and Sean—the alpha shifters of Lupe Tau Fraternity—to offer me the energy I need to survive.

Or to be so enthusiastic about the means of providing it.

My ex will stop at nothing to drag me back to his coven so he can use me like a magical battery.

And the Lupe Tau wolves will stop at nothing to protect what they’ve decided is theirs.

-Do You Even Hex, Bro? is the first book in a Paranormal Romance RH series about a grumpy witch with scars and trust issues becoming the last thing she wanted - the unwitting obsession of a pack of massive himbo frat wolves and the center of a magical war.

2.75 stars. It was fine.
From the description, I was expecting more himbo. And I was all in for a funny book about a pack of himbos doting on a befuddled witch. Maybe I have the wrong idea of what a himbo is? I was thinking clueless or air-headed, sweet and friendly with golden retriever energy, and very giving in the sexual department. What I got was typical horny frat bros. The one MMC that was, I guess, closest, was just unserious and thirsty.

The ending was abrupt in a way that made it feel unfinished. I much prefer each book in a series to have a resolved story arc within the overall series arc.

Not to yuck anyone's yum, but the lone sex scene was icky. Period sex

I may check out the next book in the series because Villeneuve fascinates me.

Fun read

I saw someone share some funny quotes from this and it sounded fun, so I had to read it for the laughs. It definitely lived up to the ridiculous himbo frat boy shifter expectation I had and now I'm looking forward to the sequel.

The following quote about halfway through the book made me laugh:
"It's an ancient academic text on rare magical classifications, and the pages are yellowed and falling apart. That's how you know it's good. Or someone pissed on it. Hoping it's the former."

I cant read anymore. I had low expectations because of "himbo" being all in the blurb. But I expected more of a bimbo, clueless, airhead, but hot men. What we got was sex deprived frat boys drinking brewskis looking for p***y. And these are the heroes. Gross. I feel like I got hit on by a creep at the bar while reading their chapters. Nope. Pass. DNF. Not for me.

Why is this going to be a series? Pacing kinda made no sense. There was not a conflict beyond the first 80 pages, so I thought it was a standalone. Feel like it’s overall pretty weak in terms of writing plot and character arcs.

“𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐦?” 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐫𝐲𝐥𝐲, 𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐰. "𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐡, 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭," 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐬, 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠. "𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐈 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐨𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮."

not gonna lie, i read this book bc i saw it in a facebook group being described that all the males were himbos 🤣

would i describe them all as himbos? no, that would just be Sean 🤣 but they’re def all frat bros. and just bc Sean, Killian, Rowan, and Micah are frat bros, doesn’t mean they’re not going to rip apart anyone who threatens their mate, Regina.

this book definitely sets up the world and major players and the fight that is to come. it also just begins to introduce the relationship between Regina and the guys. there hasn’t been time yet for individual relationship development, just group. and a lot of it is told and you don’t see the actual conversations. so i am hoping for more in the next book. i am not sure how many books will be in the series, but intrigued to see how things go.

These men were disgusting. How did we go from traumatized and scared to period sex in the span of 1 chapter. Don't even get me started about the cookie cutter dirty talk, which is made worse by the astonishing lack of chemistry between characters.

The FMC didn't even talk to the MMCs until about 50% of the book. The pacing is awful. The chemistry and smut are even worse.

The only semi-interesting character in this book is the mysterious professor. But the writing ruins it. We have to hear about his unnatural stillness and mysterious energy every single goddam time he mutters a word. I GET IT ALREADY. HES MYSTERIOUS. THE WOLVES DISTRUST HIM. I GET IT I GET IT I GET IT. DO WE NEED IT REPEATED EVERY OTHER SENTENCE???

Ridiculously Amazing

I knew what I was getting into, the blurb didn’t lie. What I didn’t expect was such a deep story that I could get lost in. I thought it was going to be a fun ride, and now I’m anxiously awaiting the next book to see what happens!

I went into this a little skeptical. I didn’t love the title, but the blurb captured my attention. I ended up really enjoying the story! It’s fast paced and fun, there are a couple really funny moments. There is one sex scene in the book, but it’s a period sex scene and I’m not really a fan of those. The ending of the book isn’t a cliffhanger but it IS very abrupt. It felt like there should have been a little more at the ending. Luckily the next book is supposed to come out soon. The plot is a little flimsy but I think the author laid the ground work for a few different things to expand on. Mostly this was just a fun read if you’re not looking for anything super serious.

The solitary sex scene didn’t really do it for me, and the guys’ chapters were kinda blending together, aside from maybe Rowan. I know they’re really similar because they’re all alphas and all in the same pack, but I did struggle to differentiate their personalities at first, and I still kinda do even after finishing. Hoping that gets remedied in the next installment though.

Will I continue? Eh, honestly not sure. Maybe if enough people say questions get answered in the next book; otherwise, I’m content with having given this a chance. Imo, I expected more lighthearted banter or funny himbo moments, and was instead met with lots of frat guy sex jokes and men whining that they’re horny.

I feel like my original rating was altered... is that a thing?? while I did really like this book, a lot more than I thought I would, I am very stingy with my 5 stars (side eye), but I would definitely give this 4 stars. It was surprisingly good.

Decent and Intriguing

My Synopsis and potential spoilers

Starts off with Regina boarding a train station, on the run from her old coven. Shes ran a full 3 days with no rest and her ex, the leader of her old coven, was found pumping into his secretary of sorts. Regina is a syphon, someone to basically amplify the magic’s of her coven casting. She can only absorb other people’s magic to recharge, and she can only do that by being bonded to a group of magic users. Kyle her ex old coven leader had his buddy find her at the station just as the train was leaving. Thats when she got a text message from an unknown number, she knows it’s Kyle from the threat of coming after her if she doesn’t show her face in 24 hours. Basically it counts down with his newer texts coming in. Regina lands at the academy town, gets a hostel then heads to a coffee shop the next morning. Pans to the a group of wolves in a fraternity who are threatened fo be expelled and forcibly disbanded then termed lone wolf (by the council) if they don’t bond with a witch. Micah contacts his step sister to cast a spell to help them find their mate. They show up at the coffee cafe and lay eyes on Regina at the same time her ex and his goons show up. Regina runs, and everyone runs after her. She’s drawn to the wolf’s dorm which is where the show down happened. The only saving grace was one of the wolves professors shows up, saving her from them all. Regina is deathly afraid of shifters due to her history of being mauled by one. I’m unsure if she knew a were wolf vs wolf shifter were different. The wolf boys instantly know the scar on her face was made by a werewolf. They turn into killing machines when the shift, where a wolf shifter is completely present with their inner wolf and are aware and can control their instincts. Regina originally went to the vampires to bond with them but they rejected her after seeing her facial scar. Professor Villeneuve walking into the scene with Regina ex coven and ex bf are having a show down with Micah, Killian and Rowan. The guys claim she’s their mate while the ex coven leader Kyle claims she’s their 13th witch which is a high coveted position (usually means more powerful than any of them). Professor Villeneuve gives her a choice. Leave with her ex coven (Kyle’s arm gets bitten(By Killian the pack leader) off and they rush off to a hospital minus an arm because professor Villeneuve made the grass and plants eat it) or the wolf shifters or himself. She chooses professor Villeneuve. He makes her feel safe by giving her options. The wolves follow them back to the professors house and isn’t allowed past the borders since he put up magical wards. Thankfully, the professor gives her a choice to talk with the wolves or stay with him. She chooses to talk to them and after speaking to them decides to give them a chance. She moves in with them, they head to get her stocked up in bathroom stuff, and house stuff since she ran from her coven with only a back pack. There was a few dirty scenes, there was talk of knots, and the mystical mate feelings they all felt. She thinks through their offer, and after witnessing how they act around her, gives them the chance to bond with her, as a witch, she’s holding off on the mate stuff for now. Basically the end is her speaking to Micah’s step sister, the witch that cast the spell to help find the guys mate. They click instantly, which gives Regina so much relief. She has a chance to get to know the guys without them putting up a front through the step sister. Regina has good reason not to trust wolves but so far she’s decided to give them a chance at mating with her on top of bonding as a witch so the guys can graduate from school and not be disbanded.
A new book comes out Dec 10, this review will be helpful once the new book comes out so I don’t have to re read this one.

oh. my. god. I had SO MUCH FUN with this book! 🤣

Regina is on the run from her coven, who have used and abused her, and needs to find a replacement STAT. As a siphon witch, she needs a magical group to draw energy from or she'll shrivel and eventually die. Problem is, her (now former) coven was prestigious, and finding a group willing to face them isn't exactly easy, ESPECIALLY with said coven still hunting her. When she runs into a pack of shifters she's terrified, although they attempt to fight off the coven. Shifters (particularly wolves) are dangerous and unpredictable, but they might be her only option. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, Regina needs to make a choice. Go back to a coven where she'll surely meet more abuse, or try to stand up for herself amongst wolves...

Given Regina's past encounter with a werewolf, it's understandable that she'd rather bond with ANY other magical group than them. She has never been truly adored but and absolutely struggles to accept the boys doting over her. She doesn't trust them, although she desperately wants to believe someone (three someones!) could actually want her for her and not just for her powers. 🥹

For a short book this has a crazy lot of plot (the mystery around Villeneuve has me at the edge of my seat)! It's fast paced, sweet & spicy, and SO fun. (My ideal book, really.) These wolves are adorable dorks, but they worship the ground Regina walks on and I CANNOT wait to see her reach her full potential as the series continues! 👀

"You've had precious few allies in your life, haven't you?" His voice is softer now, almost gentle. I look away, uncomfortable with his perception. "I manage." "Yes," he says thoughtfully. "You strike me as someone who has always managed, no matter the cost. Perhaps now you might consider the novel concept of thriving, not just surviving."

This series will be right down your alley if you liked Psycho Shifters by Jasmine Mas. 😈
These boys are a lot sweeter than Jasmine's shifters are, but overall it's a similar vibe and humor.

This actually came out more as a 4.25/5 stars for me, but I'll gladly round up this time.

I enjoyed "Do You Even Hex, Bro?" so freaking much. Regina has so much potential and I can't wait to see her grow into it. The MMCs - Killian, Sean, Micah, and Rowan - did initially come off as interchangeable, but they came a little more independent of each other as characters by the time I hit the halfway mark.

Other positives:
👍 The scene where the guys were building a nest around Regina while she slept (pretty sure this will live rent free in my head now for the sneaky caretaking)
👍 The Twilight Market - I want more of this!
👍 Villeneuve - yeah, I said it. This guy intrigues me so much and I can't wait to see where this goes.
👍 Sean giving Regina the nickname witchy woman. Maybe I'm tired of the "little xyz" pet names, but I loved this.
👍 The humor. Ah, this hit so perfectly. Here are some of my favorite moments:

"Look at his name, for fuck's sake!" I bellow. "Villeneuve? It even sounds evil. And you know what else? Evil has a 'V.' So does Villeneuve."

Micah blinks. "I thought you meant because it sounds like villain."

I throw up my hands. "That, too!"

And this one:

"I have an IUD. It's okay," I pant.

Sean freezes. "Do we uh, need to call the bomb squad?"

Some things that didn't quite work for me:
- I would have liked the relationships to be introduced sooner. I think it was around the 40% mark when it really started to get going between Regina and the wolves. I can understand why all the build up was needed and I don't think it should have been skipped out on. I'm just impatient when it comes to the MCs meeting and connecting.
- The book was pitched as the MMCs being himbos, but I really only get that vibe from Sean. Frat bros, sure. So it's a little disappointing that they're all not himbos. I was really looking forward to that.

A heads up: While this book doesn't really end on a cliffhanger, it's definitely a To Be Continued situation. Not everything is quite settled and there's definitely more to explore.

Final verdict: Pick this one up! I'm heading off now to preorder the second book because I really can't wait for more.

Regina is a witch with extremely rare powers… who's running from a big mistake. The coven she joined wasn't what she thought and her controlling jerk of an ex is even worse. But leaving the coven behind and breaking ties is not as easy as she hoped. Enter Killian, Rowan, Micah, and Sean - 4 alpha wolf shifters who'll do anything fit her. The question is… can she trust in something new?

A really good read. The characters are intriguing and their antics had me cracking up. Can't wait for more!

Do you even hex, bro? was not the book I was expecting it to be and I was glad it wasn't. Witch Regina is running from her Coven and her Ex boyfriend. Only to land at a Supernatural University and the Lupe Tau Fraternity - Micah, Killian, Rowan and Sean. A group of Wolves that definitely brought on all the fun and some laughs too. I really enjoyed reading this first book in this series and I'm looking forward to the next book now.

Vibes: 4⭐
Plot: 3.5⭐
Characters: 3.75⭐
Spice: 🌶️🌶️

This is a fun, very easy, quick read. I almost DNF'd it at the beginning because it wasn't hooking me in, but after about 50 pages it got better.

It's not deep, and the world is complex and not clear. But the characters are entertaining. The end is just like the end of a chapter so a bit abrupt. It feels like it stopped in the middle of it all.

Really good

Don’t let the name fool you, this is a really good, nuanced and well rounded story with a damaged and vulnerable witch learning to trust the 4 wolves who are her mates against all odds. Action packed well paced well written fun and funny with a surprising depth.

Fantastic writing, I love the vibes. Fairly annoyed that it kind of just got cut off at the end waiting for the next book. Like it was supposed to be one big honk of a book but the author just split it down the middle kind of regardless of where the story arc is. Excited to read the next though.

The book was surprisingly easy to get through, considering how little actually happens. There's no major conflict, no real drama except from the very beginning, just... mellow. I've read feel-good comedic romances with a bigger tension curve.

The insta love is pretty standard too; no interesting twist to it that would've added to the chemistry of the mcs. And that would've helped the story a lot, because their whole relationship is based on the 'mate' shtick. I do like a good mate story, but there was minimal meaningful interaction between fl and mls before the fl suddenly decided that cunnilingus is actually a good idea.

The world building isn't good. Interactions happen between a whopping 10 people if you don't count a one-page-dialogue with a random witch.
The fl gets the most detailed backstory, but still we barely know anything before she was a coven witch.
The mls barely get any attention. One of the males is rich, the other is a thirsty labrador with no filter, the third is a serious guy who's a bit more reasonable than the others, and the last one is a jock who likes to read and has a stepsister who is annoying af, and gets along with fl for no reason whatsoever.
The only guy who is remotely interesting didn't get a lot of screen time.

The book also ends at a weird point. It felt like the story was cut off in the middle without leaving a conclusion or a proper cliffhanger.
I seriously wonder how this book is over 300 pages long without any of the content that you usually expect from a good book.

I did like a few things. The mls are all hopelessly catering to the fl with no alpha shit, like "I just want to protect you" shit to downplay toxic behavior. Though, it doesn't feel like they're alphas at all... no idea what actually makes an alpha in this world, that's never explained.
The fl is funny and some of the phrases are hilarious. I didn't feel bored despite the lack of plot progress.
And the mcs don't feel like nutcases. They're all reasonable and there's no unnecessary drama (well, there isn't ANY drama, but you get the gist).

When Regina finds her boyfriend and coven leader in bed with another woman, she runs from the coven. But leaving is just the beginning. To truly be free, she needs to bond with another power source before her rare syphon magic runs out. Surprisingly, she attracts the interest of four dude-bro wolf shifters, who are convinced she's their mate. Can Regina trust these wolf-y fools? Or will her ex force her back into the coven?

Regina knows her last relationship was abusive. But rising above her previous relationship is causing some major hang ups. Adding in her survival of a suspicious werewolf attack, the last thing she wants is to bond with some wolf shifters. She's cautious but running out of time, which forces her to give the men a chance. Her distrust and skepticism balances out the mayhem of the shifters. The Loupe Tau wolves are the perfect combination of chaotic energy, idiotic choices, and enough earnestness to give them some heart without being obnoxious. While we don't spend much time with each boy in this book, we get just enough of a glimpse to recognize their characterization and set the foundation for the next book.

My only complaint is just as things were getting settled, and I was excited for the next part of the storyline, the book ended! While it didn't end on a cliffhanger, it was a bit jarring, and I can't wait to see how the story develops in the next book.

This story lacks a lot: stronger worldbuilding, better pacing (especially for an insta–fated mates setup), more maturity, and more distinct character personalities.

It’s also an incomplete book, it ends mid-scene, and nothing truly OMG happens (except for the moment where the ex gets a taste of his own medicine). Overall, the story still feels rough and underdeveloped, and it’s difficult to tell where it’s headed. There are hints of additional MMCs (there are four so far).

HOWEVER, because the cliffhanger hits so early, this feels more like one story split into multiple parts, SO I don’t have a full picture yet.

It’s clearly still in the beginning stages. The tone is very light, but it does touch on themes like trauma and manipulation. I really appreciated that the FMC has a loved one as family (her sister) and isn’t completely isolated.

So far, all of the MMCs are green flags (yay!), but they aren’t very fleshed out yet, and they barely know each other with the FMC.

I have some expectations, but I’m not fully invested just yet. That being said, I’d still recommend it.

If you’re impatient, though, you’ll want to read this and the next installment back-to-back, because this one ends on a massive cliffhanger.
