ಹದಿನಾರನೇ ಶತಮಾನದ ಪೋರ್ಚುಗೀಸ್ ಯುದ್ಧಪರಿಣಿತನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಇತ್ತೀಚಿಗೆ ರಚಿಸಲಾಗಿರುವ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಪ್ರೇಮಗೀತೆಯ ಸತ್ಯಾಸತ್ಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಸಂಶೋಧಿಸಲೆಂದು, ಆ ದೇಶದ ಸ್ನಾತಕೋತ್ತರ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿನಿ ಮಾರಿಯಾ, ಮೈಯನ್ಮಾರ್ ಗೆ ಬಂದಾಗ ಅಪರಿಚಿತ ಗುಂಪೊಂದು ಆಕೆಯನ್ನು ಅಪಹರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
ಪಲ್ಲವರ ರಾಜನಿಗೆ ಕಾಂಬೋಡಿಯಾದ ಖ್ಮೆರ್ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯದ ರಾಜನೊಬ್ಬ ಕೊಡುಗೆಯಾಗಿ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದ್ಧ ಬಂಗಾರದ ರಥದ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಂತಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಕಳ್ಳರ ಗಮನ ಹರಿದಿರುವ ಸುದ್ದಿಯ ಹಿನ್ನಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತದ ಸರಕಾರ ಪೂಜಾಳನ್ನು ಒಂದು ರಹಸ್ಯ ಕಾರ್ಯಾಚರಣೆಗೆಂದು ಆಗ್ನೇಯ ಏಷ್ಯ ದೇಶಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸಲು ಅನುವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
ಅಷ್ಟರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಂಬೋಡಿಯಾದ ಕಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಒಂದು ಪಗೋಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲವು ಬೌದ್ಧಬಿಕ್ಕುಗಳ ಮಾರಣಹೋಮ ನಡೆದಿರುವ ಸುದ್ದಿ ಭಾರತದ ವಿದೇಶಾಂಗ ಕಚೇರಿಗೆ ತಲುಪುತ್ತದೆ. ಪರಿಣಾಮವಾಗಿ ಪೂಜಾಳ ಶೋಧದ ದಿಕ್ಕೇ ಬದಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
ಆ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಘಟನೆಗಳೂ ಭಾರತದಿಂದ ಪಯಣಿಸಿದ್ದ ಬುದ್ಧನ ಅಭೂತಪೂರ್ವ ಶಿಲ್ಪವೊಂದರ ಚರಿತ್ರೆಯ ಸುತ್ತ ಬೆಸೆದುಕೊಂಡಿರುವ ಸತ್ಯ ತೆರೆದುಕೊಂಡಂತೆ, ಪೂಜಾ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾರಿಯಾ ಒಟ್ಟಾಗಿ ಅದರ ರಹಸ್ಯವನ್ನು ಭೇದಿಸತೊಡಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಆ ಹುಡುಕಾಟಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಭಾರತೀಯತೆಯ ಜಾಗತಿಕ ಪಯಣದ ಅದ್ಭುತ ಚರಿತ್ರೆ ಅನಾವರಣಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ.

Dr. K.N. Ganeshaiah is an agricultural scientist and professor at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. He is also a novelist specializing in thrillers, and writes in the Kannada language.

Prof Ganeshaiah has pioneered a new style of writing novels and short stories in Kannada that seamlessly mixes facts and fiction in the form of thrillers. Through this style, his writings have captured a new generation of readers in Kannada contributing to the growth of story writing in Kannada.

Though an agriculture scientist, his novels and stories bring to the reader, the lesser-known and hidden facts of history along with science. Some of
his novels are also aimed at bringing the most complicated elements of science to the general reader.

Recognizing the novelty in the style of writing, he was awarded Kannada Sahitya Academy Datti Award for his novel Kanaka Musuku, which combines both history and science. As some experts have inferred, his thrillers have drawn a large number of new readers to Kannada.

In recognition of his novel contribution to Kannada Literature, Prof Ganeshaiah has also been honored with the Honorary President of Kolar District Sahitya Parishat during 2013

Prof Ganeshaiah has written Nine novels, and 41 short/long stories (in eight collections) and over 63 essays in the areas related Science and Society. His recent book Sasya Sagga on the wonders of plant life as told through his own journey in the field of botany and evolution has attracted your readers. Several of his novels and stories were serialized in Kannada Weekly Magazines

ಗಣೇಶಯ್ಯ ರವರ ಈ ಕಾದಂಬರಿ ನಿಮ್ಮ ತಾಳ್ಮೆಯನ್ನು ಪರೀಕ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದರೆ ತಪ್ಪಾಗಲಾರದು. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕತೆಯೆಂಬುದು ಗೌಣ. ಬದಲಾಗಿ, ಆಗ್ನೇಯ ಏಷ್ಯಾ ದೇಶಗಳ ಇತಿಹಾಸದ ಕುರಿತಾಗಿ ಬರೆದ ಲೇಖನಗಳ ಸಂಕಲನ ಎನ್ನಬಹುದು. Emerald Buddha ದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸೊಗಸಾಗಿ ಬರೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಆದರೆ ಲೇಖಕರ ಇತರೆ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣುವ ಅದೇ ಹಳೆಯ ಕಥಾಹಂದರ, ಕಳವು, ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ, ಒಬ್ಬರೋ ಇಬ್ಬರೋ ನಾಯಕಿಯರು ಈ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ಸಿಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಕಾದಂಬರಿ ಎಷ್ಟು ಬೇಸರ ತರಿಸುತ್ತದೆಯೆಂದರೆ ಕೊನೆಯ ಸುಮಾರು ಐವತ್ತು ಪುಟಗಳನ್ನು ಓದಲೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಲೇಖಕರು ಇಷ್ಟು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯನ್ನು ಬರೆಯುವಾಗ editing ಮಾಡುವುದು ಅಥವಾ ಮಾಡಿಸುವುದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು.

ಎಂದಿನಂತೆ ರೋಚಕತೆ ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಕಾದಂಬರಿ. ಕಾಂಬೋಡಿಯಾ ಮತ್ತು ಭಾರತದ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ ಹೋಲಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಭಾವದ ಮೇಲೆ ಒತ್ತು ನೀಡಿರುವುದು ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುವ ದರೋಡೆಯ ಪ್ರಕರಣವನ್ನು ಕಥೆಯನ್ನಾಗಿಸಿ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯನ್ನು ಬರೆಯಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಬೋರ್ ಆಗುತ್ತೆ. ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯನ್ನು ಎಳೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಅಂತ ಅನ್ನಿಸಬಹುದು
