Flour Power: A cozy small-town mystery baked with friendship, frosting, and foul play

Rate this book
In Willowbrook, flowers aren’t the only things blooming—murder is, too.

Lily Fairchild thought running the Bluebird Bakery during the town’s Flower Festival would be all sugar and sunshine. With Penelope’s outrageous float designs, a parade of floral cupcakes, and Cinnamon the cat supervising from the window, life feels almost perfect.

Until the local florist, Mabel Maynard, is found dead in her greenhouse.

The sheriff calls it an accident. Lily isn’t so sure. She overheard Mabel arguing with a pushy developer, and the secrets buried among Mabel’s prized heirloom seeds hint at something far darker than a slip on wet stones.

Now Lily and Penelope are on the trail of a killer, with Cinnamon pawing at clues no one else sees. Between nosy neighbors, hidden rivalries, and Jack Oakley’s distracting charm, the investigation may be more dangerous than they bargained for.

Can Lily uncover the truth before the killer strikes again? Or will the Flower Festival end in tragedy instead of triumph?

Perfect for fans of small-town charm, mischievous cats, and mysteries served warm with a side of pastries.

Bakery owner Lily Fairchild becomes entangled in a murder when florist Mabel Maynard is found dead in her greenhouse. Though the police think it is accidental, something doesn’t sit right with Lily. Along with her quirky friend Penelope and local vet Jack, Lily is determined to find the truth and bring justice for Mabel.

I was gifted this book and wanted to write an honest review. This book has both pros and cons to it. First of all, Ward does a fantastic job of describing the settings throughout the story. I can almost picture it in my mind. Also, the plot line is pretty solid, it’s a good story that cozy readers will enjoy. However, I did have some issues with the book. One thing I noticed was that it seemed as if Ward was trying too hard to make Penelope quirky. For me, that was distracting me from the story. Also, there were a few times that there were gaps in the storyline, that caused me some confusion . Overall, this book is a solid 3.5 stars and I look forward to reading more of this author’s work.

Lily with her cat Cinnamon are at her bakery, when her friend Penelope rushes in full of ideas about a bakery float in the annual Flower Festival. Then, the very knowledgeable Mabel is found dead in her greenhouse, apparently a slip, but Lily & her friends don’t think so. The police say “accident”. So they do some investigating themselves. Then the bakery gets trashed and then the police realise they were wrong! An easily read and enjoyable book.
