What a marvelous book. The characterizations, the down to earth advice, the rhymes and the art all blend to create a feeling that is ... well ... magical. It is like a mixture of Walt Disney and Dr. Seuss and couldn't be more delightful. It's difficult enough writing something that captivates and enchants. Difficult more to write something with meaningful life lessons. The Zabbit seamlessly combines them both. Whether read to or by your children, or as a guideline for 'words of wisdom' to share with your offspring, The Zabbit delivers.

2.5 Stars This book about half way through was a 4 stars for me...then...it went on and on and THEN...It had an agenda.. I really hate it when children's books have an agenda! The being your self and being your own person and the Magic in you is great and an important lesson to teach children, but then...when we got to the hunter part, and yes, hunting for the sake of hunting, kill or poaching is NOT cool, but I live in an area where hunting is huge. Some people live off the meat of an Elk all year! To say that hunting is bad, is ridiculous. If it is for sport, or just to hurt animals that is wrong, and I believe in animals right but the reason we have a deer hunt in our area is to keep the deer population down, so the whole herd doesn't get over populated and they all starve to death...which is more cruel hunting a few or letting an entire herd die. Is that the point of the book hunting is bad? I don't think so, but it rubbed me the wrong way!

I wonder if the author is a city boy, sitting in an office high rise,or at PETA meeting in a fancy urban ball room rise writing a story about hunting is bad. Yes this story would be sad if the hunter got the rabbit, but animals are for the use of man (not in a cruel way) The Hunter was hungry...hence while he trapped for food...yes, there is always a victim in the food chain...but they are animals. We are to protect and preserve them, but they are also a food source. Okay rant over...wanted to like this book...the pictures are great, just can't endorse it!!

I found this super sweet and valuable book at goodwill. It will become a favorite of mine to read to kids of all ages. And one that I hope I can find more of to give as gifts. Great message.

The Zabbit, he spoke with great poise and great pride. All the animals listened and none were dry eyed. "You too, are quite special we're just different types. I'm no better than you just because I have stripes. Since we each are quite different we must always take care to cherish what's different when we find it somewhere. In ourselves or in others, it matters not where. It's what you do with what you've got. It's saying I CAN and never CANNOT!" -The Zabbit by Jim Walkow.

This is just one of the great lessons the zabbit explains. Love it, love it!
