Madeline Murphy was born with “the sight”. Raised by her grandmother on the west coast of Ireland, she learned to see her special talent as a gift, not a burden. When her grandmother’s friend shows up with a jar of dirt and a mystery to solve, it sends Madeline on a journey into the past to solve a medieval crime.
Fate has her enlisting the help of Brennan O’Connor, a handsome and intriguing Irish history professor. The line between history and myth blurs, as they discover that the mystery is deeper, older and more sinister, involving a medieval monastery, a girl with a secret life, and an Abbot with dark intentions.
Together Madeline and Brennan unravel this long-buried mythically charged crime and find their own path towards the future.
Lost and Found is a beautifully written novel introducing memorable, likable characters. As you read, the descriptions make you feel like you are watching a movie. Irish legends and lore, a spark of romance, and one truly loathsome character are all set against a backdrop of the lush green Irish countryside and the rock-strewn Irish seacoast. The plots and subplots unfold as the reader easily transitions between the medieval past and the 21st century following the mystery through to a satisfying ending. Who knew there could be so much mystery in a jar of dirt. I am looking forward to Penny’s next book.
This book is so sweet, and it's built on an interesting and refreshing concept. I love the dual timelines in the book, the atmosphere of the Irish coast, and the selkie myths woven in. This is a great cozy genre-bender. The storyline is interesting, the romance is sweet, and the characters are relatable. I want to sit in Gran's kitchen and eat her and Maddie's food and travel the beach looking for selkies.
