When a foreign dignitary’s secretary is found stabbed to death inside a locked office in the mayor's mansion, disgraced detective Rex Haining is reluctantly pulled back into the world that cast him out. Forced to navigate a web of departmental politics, clashing egos, and a high-stakes political cover-up, Rex must use his singular brilliance to solve an impossible crime.
This quick read is an easy page turner of a mystery. I enjoyed following the clues and trying to solve the mystery myself. There was a nice little twist in the middle and the ending was on point.
Great novella. I will be reading more work from Jason Fischer. I mean who doesn't love a good gum shoe story? Rex puts up with no crap, walks the thin line between reckless and savant. This was a fun ride.
