For six months, I survived the end of the world alone. Then my own body became the enemy.I outran the dead. I scavenged in the ashes of Atlanta, trusting no one but myself. My paramedic training was my armor, my fierce independence the only law in a world without them. I was a survivor.
Then the fever hit. An agonizing transformation, a biological Awakening I never knew was possible, turned my body into a beacon. I’m an Omega now, and my scent is a siren’s call in the silent ruins—a lure for the infected Ash-Walkers and something far more Alphas.
Captured by a ruthless pack of survivors, I'm no longer free. I'm a "protected asset." A prize.
Ronan, their cold and dominant leader, sees me as a strategic problem to be managed.Dante, his brutal second, looks at me with a hunger that’s half hate, half desire.Lennox, the quiet Beta healer, views me as a medical anomaly to be studied.Owen, a fellow Omega, looks at me with a terror that mirrors my own. They think they can cage me, but they've underestimated the woman they dragged from the rubble. I am not a possession to be claimed.
But our fragile truce is shattered by whispers on the wire. A rival pack, led by a tyrant who collects Omegas like trophies, has marked our territory. They’re not just a threat to my new pack—they’re a horrifying glimpse of the fate that awaits me if my protectors fail.
My captors think my scent is a weakness. They’re about to find out it’s a weapon. And I'm not just the bait in this trap. I'm the one who's going to spring it.

This one is an engaging read, I couldn't put it down because I wanted to learn what was next. I'd say it's more a 3.5 with the deficiencies.
The book starts with Zora, an ambulance worker who is responding to a medical emergency with her partner Ben. They come upon a zombie-like scene when trying to save someone, Ben disappears somewhere and suddenly Zora is at the hospital emergency room alone. From there, it's pandemonium and people running trying to escape the infected who want to eat others. Zora is supposed to meet up with her family at a checkpoint but when she gets near, she sees her family's car sitting with doors open and her mother's red scarf. Given the visual evidence of the zombies crawling all over and no signs of anyone running, Zora concludes that her family is dead and she's alone. The story then fast forwards 6 months where Zora has been surviving on her own but has started to become ill with fevers and cramping. Her DNA rewriting her junk genes into becoming an Omega. The zombies are attracted to noise but also to the scent of an omega which Zora's starting to give off in waves as her first heat approaches. Just as Zora is about to be overtaken by zombies, Dante and Ronan arrive. They save her from the zombies about to devour her and install Zora in their stronghold. Zora is resentful of their rescue and doesn't like the reality that her biology is showing her. Lennox, a beta, and Owen, another Omega round out the inner circle. However, there are 15 people in the stronghold which they call the Bastion. It's fortified from the zombies and outsiders with a stash of supplies and medical stuff.
Zora slowly makes room for herself in the Bastion as she battles her first heat. The scent drives the Alphas crazy but Ronan, who is the leader manages to keep her from being claimed against her will while he watches over Zora and doesn't succumb to his Alpha instincts. Ronan just feeds her and makes sure Zora is hydrated until her heat breaks. However, another Alpha pack knows about her and wants her. They also hear a broadcast from someone claiming to be the mayor of all survivors and puts out a call for all Omegas. The other alpha pack attacks the Bastion and the five main end up surviving through the siege, Zora, Dante, Ronan, Owen, and Lennox. Zora somehow created a bond between all of them through her and eventually allows Ronan and Dante to bite the scent glands on either side of her neck which stifles her Omega scent since she's now bonded to them. Together, the five of them leave the Bastion to try and find another place to survive together and rebuild. The book then ends.
Although this book is billed as a reverse harem, no harem like activities occur and the bonding doesn't happen until the book is almost over. What kept this from being 5 stars for me were deficiencies in the storyline and often Zora. Names and occupations are just known without the customary knowledge sharing between people who don't know one another. The book moves from one scene to the next without transition and we're all of a sudden in a different place with new scenarios and no information about how we got from one to the other. Zora is refusing to let someone in her ambulance that's slow crawling through congested traffic with no outlet, the ambulance seemingly surrounded by zombies, the next she's abandoning the ambulance with no explanation for where the zombies may have gone so that she can leave the ambulance safely. There are a lot of times the book falls through on necessary details to get from one point to the other. The repetition is also a challenge to get through in the book because almost every reference to Owen was his sour stench of fear overriding his accent of Omega-ness. At some point too, Zora's scent signature changes to match another Omega when it was something else in the beginning of the book.
About Zora. Although the book cover shows Zora, Dante, and Ronan, the descriptors are non-existent. I picked it up because there was a black woman lead only to have no black woman descriptors. Anyway, in this new world Zora finds herself in, biological markers are scrambled by a virus that turns certain human survivors into Alpha, Beta, and Omega. She's an Omega and claws and fights for a place in the Bastion where she and her brains are the assets to the pack as opposed to what her biology marks her to be. I rolled my eyes several times at her fight for independence which was the catalyst for much of the violence late in the book. Zora's stubborn refusal to be practical cost lives. For an analytical, strategist as she comes to be known for, I thought it was short sighted of her not to be able to see and understand how a bite from an alpha would make their survival easier. It was all about her wants and needs, wholly ungrateful of her life that was saved, distrustful of everyone around her, and stubborn pride getting in the way.
We don't really get to know much about anyone other than the 5 despite there being others in the Bastion. At one point, I was terribly confused because the mayor's name was Marcus, the alpha of the rival pack was named Marcus, and suddenly in the middle of the siege, Lennox foolishly runs out into the middle of the battle to save a Marcus that's one of the Bastion's pack who hadn't been named or mentioned until that point in the book. Head scratcher for sure. The book was a page turner but had massive holes.
I loved this book! Great world building and characters. I liked how they showed all the different personalities. Now, I have to wait for the next one. We are left in a satisfying place but I need to know what's next.
Slow and many repetitive sentences, not really a revers harem No intimacy, not even a kiss, which is oaky, but there is the word "Romance" in the title, very misleading. It's basically a BF and WM's in an apocalypse Almost seems like it's an AI written Glad that I read this via KU
This was an amazing read. If you are interested in a well paced book either well defined characters this is it. I look forward to reading more from this author
