Some love stories are born in blood, built on secrets, and sealed with hearts that no longer beat.
Lainey I fucked up… I managed to catch the attention of a serial killer. My biggest mistake? Critiquing his technique online. The smartest thing would be to block him, delete my account, maybe move to another state. So why am I still talking to him? Silas She called my work "amateur and predictable." No one has ever had the audacity to insult me so boldly—or so accurately. I should have ignored her. Should have moved on. Instead, I find myself breaking every rule I've ever made, revealing secrets that could destroy me, just to keep her talking.
A deliciously dark romance featuring an adorably awkward heroine and a swoon-worthy psychopath. Morally gray characters guaranteed.
Erica Jade is the author of Never Yours, a gripping dark Mafia romance. When she’s not writing, Erica enjoys binge-watching TV shows with her husband and their French bulldog, Ellie. She cherishes quality time with her husband and their three children. Erica has a deep love for all things horror, an insatiable appetite for tacos, and an ever-growing collection of books to fuel her reading obsession. Whether she’s diving into a spine-chilling horror flick or savoring her favorite tacos (yes, they’re worth mentioning twice), Erica’s passions always find their way into her vibrant and dynamic storytelling.
Fabulous read! I found this to be a light dark romance that was such a breath of freshness. The characters are engaging and I found myself thoroughly entertained through this book whole book.
There is Heat, plot and even some comedic relief that I love so very much. I am a proud fan of Erica Jade’s writing and I can’t wait for the next big hit!
Silas and Lainey's story was so good. From the struggle she had to the fully embracing. Two broken people coming together. The chemistry was good and it was well written.
A killer named Heartless; a girl with a peculiar taste for deciphering the why, the motive, or the catalyst behind each murderer. But what happens when you find someone you can talk to about your particular taste, and it turns out to be more than that…?
I was super eager to start this book. This month has been a little difficult for me to read, but I couldn’t put this book down.
It is a unique read, with characters who have undoubtedly earned a place on my list of favorites. Lainey and Silas are the perfect couple. The missing piece of each other’s puzzle. Both characters have a very peculiar interest in true crime, and you could say that for one of them, it is very real. Without a doubt, when the right person comes into your life, it doesn’t matter what quirks you may have; if they’re the one for you, they’ll accept you with everything they have.
📍Do I recommend it?
Of course I do! This is a book that I assure you will hook you from the first page, and you won’t even realize when you’ve finished it.
So, if you’re looking for a dark romance with unique characters, a peculiar take for serial killers, and an FMC who knows how to analyze everything and discover the smallest details that other people might overlook, and of course, we can’t forget our methodical and sexy Dr. Silas, who will not only heal your wounds but also avenge all those whom justice failed to protect.
Don’t forget to run out and grab your copy of “A Killer Connection,” and when you have it, come back and tell me.
What would be something unique that you do? Or that you would be one of the few people who do?
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5, rounded down for the pacing spice: 🌶️🌶️
A killer connection has such an intriguing and captivating premise. What are the chances of meeting a real serial killer in an anonymous forum, and talking shit directly to his face? I loved Laney, her messiness, the slight dread she feels every time she has to interact with her crush, the passion she pours into her hobbies. She felt so real, so human. And Silas, such an opposite. All methodical, precise, each movement, each world accounted for and balanced. And yet he can't stay away. The pairing was explisive, and we do see steam rising. I really enjoy getting to know them and see their relationship blossom.
The only drawback for me was the pacing. The start is really slow, which in part I appreciate, because we get to know the characters as they are, and we get the anticipation of the meeting, and the chasing. But. It took almost half the book for some action to actually come to fruition. We got some glimpses here and there in the first half, but the real story begin after a while, and then it felt a bit rushed.
Overall, it was a really great read, perfect for true crime lovers, and great to read around halloween!
A Killer Connection is my first book by Erica Jade, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! This is a dark romance with morally gray characters that ends in a HEA.
The book features Lainey and Silas: Lainey, a true serial unaliver and documentary fan, and Silas, a surgeon with a secret. Being an avid fan, Lainey spends a lot of time researching true crime. Her job as a forensic accountant allows her to sniff out even the most intimate of details. While researching the work of a suspected serial unaliver, she critiques their work. How was she supposed to know that it would catch the eye of the very person committing the brutal crimes! Silas, a leading surgeon, goes through the motions of his everyday life. He has little time for romantic affairs and petty relationships.
I loved the concept of this story, and I enjoyed how Lainey and Silas met, but virtually and organically. The story was perfectly paced for me, keeping me engaged and turning the pages! I loved Silas’s obsession with Lainey - clearly falling for her brain before ever seeing her in person.
Thanks to Erica Jade for gifting me an eARC of A Killer Connection. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was such an amazing read. It was my first read from this author and it absolutely will not be my last. Silas had me hooked immediately, Lainey took a little longer to grow on me but she was amazing once she did. Her interactions with Heartless, both in person and online had me swooning so hard. I loved the fact that Silas couldn’t resist Lainey and was willing to forego his “compulsion” in order to be with her. I loved how Lainey’s forensic accounting skills were so integral in her evaluations of serial unalivers and thought it was awesome how Silas was totally accepting of the fact that she was completely obsessed with true crime. I honestly wasn’t a huge fan of Mya and Zoey as friends for Lainey because they were always pushing her outside of her comfort zone from a social standpoint but Lainey seemed to love them regardless of their endless interference so I guess they couldn’t have been too awful. Lainey’s Gran was HILARIOUS and her book club antics had me cackling the spice in this was drool worthy in every possible way. The ending was perfect and I’m so happy that everything worked out for Silas and Lainey.
Besties... I swear "A Killer Connection" was the dark romance palate cleanser I needed! After a week of pitch-black reads, this book hit me with the perfect balance of danger, heat, and humor. Lainey is this adorably clumsy, socially awkward sunshine who accidentally insults a s€rial unaliv€r online—enter Silas, our morally gray, poss€ssiv€ surgeon who’s as terrifying as he is irresistible. The age gap? Chef’s kiss. The dirty talk? Melted my Kindle. The sta£king and praise kink combo? Yes, please... and more! 😏
It’s twisted, a little unhing€d, and somehow… sweet?! Erica Jade gave us a psycho MMC we shouldn’t root for but absolutely did. If you like your romance dark but not pitch-black... run, don’t walk to this one. It was such a fun read!
My Ratings: ⭐ 4.5/5 ▪︎ 🥵 3/5

I adored this book, the characters, how it was written. Everything about it!
Lainey is endearing and also so freaking smart. I learnt something’s, she’s got an “unhealthy” obsession with serial unalivers but the girl knows her facts.
Silas starts off as cold, clinical even. But as the story evolves he’s actually quite lovely. Plus his back story gave me watery eyes. 🥺🥺🥺
Special shout out to Gran and her book club. She had me cackling!!
We’re now at the point if Erica Jade writes it, I will read it.
Favourite quotes-
“I don't know what it is about her. Her calling me out got under my skin, despite the fact that I've never cared what anyone else has said about me before.”
“Netflix and chill? More like Netflix and kill.”
“yes, I named him after Jeffrey Dahmer because I'm that kind of true crime weirdo—nearly knocks me to the ground with his enthusiastic greeting.”
“A Killer Connection” by Erica Jade hooked me from the very first chapter and didn’t let go until the final reveal. Jade’s writing is sharp, atmospheric, and wonderfully suspenseful—every scene feels alive with tension and emotion. The characters are richly drawn, the stakes are high, and the twists land at exactly the right moments.
What I loved most is how seamlessly Jade blends mystery, danger, and heart. The relationships feel authentic, the pacing is flawless, and the story delivers that perfect mix of intrigue and intensity that keeps you up way past bedtime.
If you liked Butcher and Blackbird Series, you will love this book!!
If you’re looking for a thriller that grips you, surprises you, and stays with you long after you’ve finished, A Killer Connection is a must-read. Erica Jade absolutely nails it!
Oh my. I usually write copious notes when I'm writing a review but this one was so good and kept me enthralled with the book that I forgot to make lots of notes!!
All I can say is that I never thought stealing and sending a human heart would be romantic but there we go! I also really struggled when at one point I said outloud "aw dahmer is such a good boi" and realised how that sounded 😅
I think if you dislike how serial killers in our real world are romanticised then this might not be for you but personally I could look past this as it's not something I watch/read 💜
Also when I'm 80 I want to be in a smut reading care home like Marty and be half as cool as her!
Silas….. dichotomy at its finest. Possessive, methodical, and totally obsessed.
He and Lainey start in an online chat forum about crime. Silas gets a bruised ego by Lainey’s assumptions. And what starts as defending its lack of impotence from his mom’s basement turns into a roller coaster love story.
Are we able to accept all parts of a person if they treat us well and we get to be authentic? Lainey will have to decide!
I haven’t read a story line like this before and it was the perfect blend of thriller, spice and dirty talk. Amazing. I’ll be reading more from Erica Jade moving forward!!
Erica Jade has become one of my go to authors. If she writes it I’m going to read it. And a killer connection is one of those that I’m going to read again and again. It’s well paced, engaging, and fully thought out. She’s created an exceptionally original story that I couldn’t put down. The character characters are unique and have wonderful chemistry. The twists are unexpected and shocking. I absolutely loved it. It’s perfect for the spooky season or anytime of year. I Highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an original dark romance with wonderful writing and characters that you can root for.
A heart surgeon hiding a secret. A forensic accountant obsessed with true crime. When their paths collide in a true crime chat room, the chemistry is on fire.
This story is sharp, cleanly written, and layered with mature themes. Where the fine line between justice and obsession blurs. The pacing is tight, and the psychological tension keeps you questioning who’s really in control. It's romance meets suspense in the best possible way, intimate, intelligent, and just dark enough to make your pulse race.
My favorite couple hands down. .. this was nothing what I expected and I enjoyed every single part of it .. Omg… The dynamic the plot of it all revealing actual documentaries that actually happened in real life the females enthusiasm for killer documentaries and the Male character ughh to die for literally Now this is A Male who does not wait he devours and gets straight to it. But the grandma omg I love her. Ahah made it better the whole book it’s self is A Killer Connection From beginning middle end ….. This is more than. A 5 star rating …
My first time Erica Jade and I’m sure I’ll continue as long as she continues to write.
At first I thought this book will be good but I was wrong this book is GREAT 🤩🤩. Like you’ll be left thinking how can she write book like this. I was hooked from the beginning to very end. Who doesn’t like a stalker serial killer book with spice and plot. I devoured this book without any ounce of regret. This book is so well written. While reading I forgot about everything. My focus was on this book. I would recommend this to everyone
This is Lainey and Silas' story. Silas is a morally gray psychopath serial k!ller. When Lainey "insults" his "work" online, he actually responds back, much to her surprise. And Silas finds himself shocked that he doesn't want to stop their online banter. This is a dark romance but with a quirky and charming MMC and a nice touch of humor. So maybe it's a dark romcom. I loved this story. I thought it was a unique plot and had likeable characters even if they were a little morally corrupt. Definitely check out this author's backlist too.
Calling a serial unalivers work amateur wasnt Laineys best moment and now shes on Silas radar. Laineys hobby of diving into true crimes leads her to conversating via an online forum with Silas, surgeon by day, vigilante unaliver by night and when she digs into his crimes and picks up things Silas hadnt thought of he becomes obsessed but opening up to Lainey will it be his undoing or the unraveling of her? Well written engaging steamy desires, twists, dark themes obsession and more.
yassss mam this book was soooo good a 10 outta 10 😌 omg Dr Silas that man is so freal and Lainey l love her she's this strong and courageous woman with a lot of ambitions her and Silas are so perfect for each other 😌 her gran is so funny 😂😂😂 i loved her and that ending was perfect you did an amazing job with this book 👏🏾
This book is truly so good! I couldn't put it down! At one point I did get a little scared 🫣😅 but that was partly my partners fault for not announcing their presence while I was reading 🤣 Stalker romances are some of my absolute favorites to read and this book has to be at the top of that list for me! The absolute obsession Silas has for Lainey is just so perfect!! 15/10 recommend!!
This book was different to others that I have read in the past. I really enjoyed it. I loved reading the conversations between the two main characters. As a crime lover myself I found their discussions super engaging. I enjoyed the spice and banter between the MMC and the FMC also. Their chemistry was great. Highly recommend 🙂
I have to say I’ve never read a book where I can’t seriously see myself as the FMC, and this one was it. The true crime obsession was on point. I don’t know if I should be concerned that I knew every serial killer and their case or that the FMC names her dog Dahmer because that’s something I would do.
Lainey obsessed with true crime, and her attention to details is how she ends up on her forum talking to no other than a serial killer who becomes obsessed with her. I love Silas; the reason he does what he does just like Dexter is also the fact that he would do whatever Lainey wanted.
What happens when you insult a seri@l un@liver in the internet?
If you want a dark romance that’s on the lighter side of things that’s not going to leave you feeling heavy and questioning your sanity, this is the book for you! You get the perfect amount of dark with dirty talk, age gaps, and a touch of obsessive/possessive!
Our MCs were written perfectly! Lainey our clumsy and a little socially awkward FMC and Silas our k!ller surgeon stalker MMC! The stalking aspect was done nicely and their relationship dynamic was really good! The plot was great, the pace is mediumish and its flows with the writing well!
Loved the witty banter and complex dynamic between Lainey and Silas. The story kept me guessing. A dark, addictive romance with morally gray characters I couldn’t put down.
What's not to love about a serial killer romance when you throw in some light stalking? This book includes almost all of my favourite tropes, so it was easily a top read for me.
Lainey is a clumsy wierdo obsessed with numbers and true crime, and I've never related to an FMC more. Silas is a surgeon by day and a vigilante by night, a hot combination.
Their banter had me laughing out loud, and I enjoyed how easily they connected with each other without really knowing who the other person was.
This book is a standalone with a HEA and, like all of Erica's books, was a great read
This is more a 4.5 star read for me. I loved the dynamic between the FMC and MMC. I found myself literally giggling at the banter in this book. I was also so intrigued with how this story played out as I wasn't sure which way the story was going to end. The curve ball that you get with Lainey, jaw dropped. I highly recommended this book.
A Killer Connection by Erica Jade Silas and Lainey are fantastic. This was so different and I love the banter, the back and forth between the characters. This was a delightful darkish, stalker romance.
