Morgana le Fay has waited fifteen centuries for freedom, and Audrey's body is the perfect vessel. Trapped in a crystalline prison between realms, Audrey watches helplessly as the legendary sorceress steals her life, her face, and the trust of everyone she loves. With only a chivalrous knight from Camelot's golden age to help her escape, Audrey must master ancient fae magic and reclaim her body before Morgana's dark plans destroy everything.
But breaking free is only the beginning.
As necromantic rituals unravel, covens fracture, and old enemies emerge from the shadows, Audrey discovers that some prophecies cannot be avoided—and some family legacies demand a reckoning.
The Coven Games is the second book in the slowburn Paranormal Why Choose Romance series Hollow Hill Academy, a spellbinding dark academia story about found family, dangerous magic, and the power of choosing your own destiny.
Love, love, love it! You can easily see that not only does the author have a good knowledge of mythology and a passion for it, but they are a skilled enough author that it weaves throughout the story so seamlessly that reading it and understanding the world and magic system feels effortless. The pacing was great and the sense of urgency to keep you turning the pages was definitely there. A fantastic sequel to book 1 and an amazing lead up to book 3. I can’t wait to see what happenes next!!!
The Coven games is the second book in the Hollow Hill series and it does need to be read in order. This is a magic academy why choose romantasy that incorporates elements of mythology. I enjoyed reading this book as a follow up to the first. Our FMC finds herself trapped in a shadow realm while an ancient sorceress uses her body to enact her grand plans of revenge and domination. My rating was a little lower on this book than the last as I felt there was quite a bit of filler. We do get to know the MMC and their abilities a little better and meet a new love interest but this book felt a little like a long set up for the next one with no real action. This in no way means I am not hanging for the next one because I am. This is worth the read for fans of Camelot and Aurthurian legends. It had almost no spice as our FMC is trapped for a good portion of the book.
Whilst the FMC Audrey is just growing to adjust to the Hollow Hill Academy, Morgana le Fay traps her in a crystalline prison between worlds, while she possesses her body, and steals her life. With the help of the Knight of the Round Table, Gawain, she learns to master her ancient fae magic and escape her prison, before Morgana’s plans destroy everything and everyone. I love how LK Shear writes! The way she explains the different Scions and different magics is so great! Being a bit of a nerd for King Arthur and Camelot, I really enjoyed this sub plot! Tropes: Found family, Slow burn, Fated mates, Love triangle, Magic academy, Good vs evil, Discovering powers, Prophecy Triggers: Imprisonment, Kidnapping, Possession, Death, Gore, Necromancy
The slow burn in this series is NEXT LEVEL!!! I can feel it building to a culmination and I frankly cannot wait for it to explode. I absolutely loved the introduction of Gawain. It felt perfect and seamless. He is absolutely my favourite MMC. The nature of the progressing relationships between the other MMCs was great. It's going to be fantastic to see as it continues to move forward. I can't wait to see where this story heads - there is so much potential for greatness and we've only just begun scratching the surface.
"Six threads, woven together by forces older than kingdoms, stronger than death itself."
I could not put the book down I finished it in one sitting! Things just got way more complicated in the best way! I can't wait to see how everything plays out between Audrey and the guys!
