The Souls Harvest

Rate this book
The Silvers in Red Queen meet dark, urban fantasy and action elements, as seen in Crescent City, with a touch of romance, an insane amount of betrayal and distorted family bonds.

"Our eyes, our powersthe very air in our lungs; everything makes us noticeable, different. Dangerous."

Would you bargain half of your soul for a second chance at life? Many Horigeans would, and July Sofia Crimson knows it well because, among the Harvesters, she’s Roden Breith’s best Reaper.

July crosses from Libera to Horigos whenever a soul's time is up to harvest it, leaving behind a Nistares—an empty vessel for the Deleteri to collect and discard in the Fields. However, if worthy of a second chance, the Writers will polish that soul for the Donatori to send back to Horigos.

But July’s speciality is Rogues—Harvesters that Roden failed to sense before their fifth birthday, doomed to lose their minds because of their untrained powers.

Until one day, July harvests a soul that doesn't glow purple like the others. It pulses, angry and red, and plants a seed of doubt in her what if the souls are stolen, not bargained willingly?

July’s life is about to change, as well as her opinion on her creator, Roden, and her best friend and occasional sexy distraction, Galen.

The Souls Harvest has officially begun. Are you ready to discover your soul's true value?

The Souls Harvest

4.5/5 rounded 5/5

Well what a fabulous read!

The Souls Harvest had me truly hooked till the end with so many twists and turns, and some wonderful characters!

I found the concept of The Souls Harvest to be very unique and honestly what lured me in as there are not many books I've read that are Reaper based. The pacing of this read was fast and it kept gaining momentum after the first couple of chapters where the lore foundations were set. At times, yes it did feel a little too fast and had to read just a couple of sections over again buttttt it did not detract from the read and the writing was almost poetic! Thoroughly enjoyable read.

TSH does have complex world building but the glossary at the front was perfect and so handy to have just to flick back to to refresh on some of the lore/places/people.

The book is written with multiple POVs however primarily lead by July, our FMC and soul Harvester, with a strong moral compass who begins to question the system and her role within it all. I love the way she does not yield and does not play the victim role, she remains herself throughout the plot twists, turns and betrayals.

Overall, this is great read for fans of unique 'magic' systems in a dystopia style setting with a fast pace that keeps you hooked and wanting to read more! Oh and FYI there's a big cliffhanger too so cannot wait to see what happens next!

Wow, I'm speechless... where do I even start? Okay, The Souls Harvest was an AMAZING dystopian fantasy story ❤️‍🔥 Totally not what I was expecting, and I LOVED everything! Thanks to the author for the ARC!! The world-building and plotline were so unique! And the pacing and the multiple first-person POVs had me hooked from the very start 🔥
They are Reapers! Harvesters of Souls 💀 trying to survive while their world is crumbling around them.. There were so many secrets, half-truths and betrayals, so much intrigue and backstories.. I felt their losses, their despair, and their yearning 💔 It was so devastating to read..
I really enjoyed reading July's POV; she's sassy and a little self-conscious at the same time, with a strong moral compass – a totally lovable character. And the twins, Merya and Mack, they are just hilarious 😆 Can't wait to read more about them! The ending was... mindblowing!
This is a MUST-READ 🔥

Wow - this book is full of surprises!

I was lucky enough to get an ARC copy of The Souls Harvest by Ade L. Sardo, and I’m so glad I did! While dark urban fantasy is not a genre I usually gravitate to, this book completely captivated me.

The story introduces you to the dark and imaginative world of powerful reapers known as Harvesters and the concept of trading souls. Without giving any spoilers, the book revolves around the protagonists, July and Galen, whose lives are unexpectedly intertwined and it culminates in a tense and dramatic ending that leaves you on the edge of your seat and wanting to read more.

Central to the book are the universal themes of love, family, friendship, loyalty, betrayal and good versus evil and it is set against a backdrop of power, division,  mortality and moral choices.

From the very first page, the book is fast-paced and it immediately sucks you in.  Ade is able to bring the world of Horigos and Libera vividly to life while maintaining tension throughout. Knowing this book is Ade’s debut and that English is not her first language makes the quality of the writing even more impressive! I loved the fact that the story is narrated through the perspectives of multiple characters which gives you a deeper understanding of their motivations, sentiments and relationships. The characters feel real, each with their own voice and personality and some you can’t help but grow to love and love to hate in equal measures. I especially loved that there are many strong female characters central to the book, many of them resonating with me.

The Souls Harvest is gripping, original and full of clever twists and turns. It’s a real page-turner, hard to put down and I found myself completely absorbed from start to finish. If you enjoy dark urban fantasy then I highly recommend it! I can’t wait for the next book - hopefully very soon!

[EN] First of all, I would like to thank the author for giving me the opportunity to read the book as an ARC.
This title immediately struck me because of its plot, and my expectations were not disappointed in the slightest.
Each chapter is a blow to the heart; there is never a moment when the reader can relax, because a twist is sure to come.
There were moments when I felt almost more confused than July in discovering all the intrigues that I absolutely did not expect.

Bonus poi te, I appreciated the references to Italian, and discovering that the author is Italian like me.
would be very nice if the book were also published here.
I hope the sequel comes soon because I need to know how the story continues!

I was gifted this ARC from the author Ade Sardo. She is truly such a sweet and engaging author. The blurb pulled me with its description but the book itself had me feeling like I was in another world.

This story pulled me in with its very unique world building and characters.

We start off meeting July Crimson who has a very interesting job. She harvests souls. This wasn’t really a job she applied for. She was unlucky enough to be born with this ability.
And she’s VERY good at her job. However, something isn’t adding up. Things aren’t as they seem.
July starts to question everything and everyone she has known all bc of this one soul she harvests and the interaction with the woman who owned it.

But what she doesn’t understand is how dangerous her questions actually are. Who can she trust? Is anything real?
I want to thank Ade for so graciously sharing with me her work.
This story is unique and makes you think. Is this character good or bad? What is happening next!? And then you’re like wait what!?!

The descriptions of the cities and what is happening paints a very vivid picture in your head.
You feel like you’re standing next to the desk in July’s apartment and in the restaurant with her and Galen.
I will say, it does end on a cliffy but I do know she’s working on book two right now!

Wow!

My soul was pulled from my body and swept along by Sardo within the first few chapters after I was selected to recieve an ARC.

The magic system intruiged me and the development of the characters kept me wondering where they would find themselves next.

Ade carries the reader seamlessly through different POVs expanding the readers knowledge and understanding of the realm they find themselves in.

The Souls Harvest differed from my usual read of dragons and conventional elemental magic. To be able to harvest a soul...that is true power over another.

I'd like mine back please...I have had to take a day or two to reset. I am looking forward to more from this creative author.

Thank you for the privilege!

TSH follows the life of the FMC July Crimson, a soul "Havester". I DEVOURED this ARC. I was only around 2 chapters in when I was hooked. The pages kept turning, the story kept going, keeping me engaged and needing more and needing to know what happened.

Im usually pretty good at predicting twists, turns and outcomes. But not this time, the twists BLEW MY MIND. I was NOT expecting them at all. It pulled at me emotionally like crazy. Especially around the MFC. July is depicted as a strong, determined, intelligent woman, who doesn’t take no for an answer, and will continue searching for answers to her questions. No matter the outcome.

The world & character building and depictions of cities, scenes etc was incredibly done. Just enough so you can actually imagine visually what you are reading.

I had a love hate relationship with quite a few of the other characters in the books, and my options changed of them pretty much every chapter.

And the ending????? OMG. Just, I have a love hate relationship with cliffhangers.

I just finished this book, and I have to say one thing: WHAT.

Okay so I was selected to be an ARC and I can't thank the author enough for this. I've read in English before (it's not my native language) and stopped, but this book has been perfect for me to go back to read in English.

Now, getting straight into the review.

I just have to thank the author one more time for the amazing book she wrote. This one had me on a chokehold most of the time, and honestly once I started reading I couldn't stop. This book has helped me get out of a reading blockage I had, and slowly I've been falling in love with more and more books as well!

I think I'm going in circles (lol) but I have nothing bad to say about this book. I can't wait for it to get released on 2026 because I will buying myself a physical copy of this! Again, thank you SO MUCH for the opportunity to be an ARC for this book, it was totally worth it! <3

Thank you to the author for granting me access to the ARC of this magnificent story. This will be released in January 2026!!

The concept for this book is original and unique. It took me a few chapters to really get into it, as the world-building is pretty complex—learning the names and places and the differences between all the abilities took a bit of time. Very thankful that the author provided a glossary as that was very helpful with organizing everything in my brain while reading. Once you get through the introduced concepts, the story is beautifully constructed. The FMC, July, and her journey as a Harvester prove to be filled with secrets and political intrigue. She is strong, adaptable, and smart. Her supporting characters give so much to the story, as you immerse yourself into their world. Mack is by far my favorite! His humor and quirky inventions are awesome. Galen and Kris—what a duo! And the ending….. what a cliffhanger!

I just adore these characters so much already and look forward to continuing this series in the future.

I am addicted! Hooked! Beyond recovery!

The mystery is so well written in TSH! Following July, I have have suspected and mistrusted each and every character, felt the betrayals and relief of true and tested friendships.
All the characters are so well developed and authentic! I could read Mack and Merya's banter all day long!
I found myself just wishing for the gang to be alright and unharmed and together forever and I am so nervous that might not happen!
Ms. Sardo don't you dare do this to me!! They must be protected at all costs!

✨July✨ is the only character I haven't doubted for a second! Her principles and moral compass are so strong; I love that she trusts her intuition even when everyone around her is gaslighting her! She is a prisoner of the system, but never acts like a victim. July shows initiative, and remains hopeful even when things look bleak and I so look up to her resilience!!

⋆.ೃ࿔*:・~Spoilers Ahead~⋆.ೃ࿔*:・

“You are something else, Evelyn, I admit that. After all these years, I still struggle to appreciate your best skill. That I-don’t-give-a-fuck aura.”

Miss P is a force of nature! I found myself clinging to every bit of lore she slipped! Each time Popplewish would say something vague, I would try to figure out the hidden meaning behind her words only to be left surprised whenever the next chapter revealed it. Only Tabitha can match her badassness!
“At least now we know you’re not some sort of perfect killing machine. Unless what’s wetting your eyes is the lubricant of your engines.” Merya about Tabitha

"I’ve heard you loud and clear while I was pretending to be a fat duckling waiting for his mother to come back. You’ve nearly told her everything and left nothing for me to say in a more—captivating way.”
“Ducks don’t nest on trees,” Galen states, crossing his arms.
“And metaphors don’t yield to the mundane rules of logic,” I retort seriously.

Now Galen and Kris deserve their own paragraphs. As MMCs, they felt like quite a breath of fresh air from the moody, brooding men-of-few-words from some popular books, and I am here for it. I love their dynamic and the snappy retors and small jabs to each other in front of July! Seeing their feelings and turmoils out in the open is so entertaining.

“I study his face searching for a single detail that would remind me of the Galen I used to know. But his jaw his clenched, and his eyes are full of memories he’s never shared with me.”

Galen has put me through a rollercoaster of feelings. I like him, I despise him. I am angry with him and angry that he's soo cool! Help! He's the character I doubted and suspected the most. But that's what made him so interesting to read about!
Kris, on the other hand, is charismatic and lovable and I find no flaw in him!! Immediately added to the 'protect at all costs' list. Because he comes in later in the story, we don't get to spend as much time with him as with the other characters, but I am so curious to know more about his past (with July (¬ᴗ ´¬ ) )! The book ends with lots of questions that we will (hopefully) find answeres to in book 2! I am mentally preparing for heartbreak, but hope Ms. Sardo will take pity on us!

♡₊˚ 🐸・₊✧
To wrap up, this book is captivating, smart and addicting! I love each and every character and I am so invested in their well-being! The plot twists have destroyed me only to revive me again with hope.
Read. This. Book. Now!!

The world building is stunning. There is so much going on that it holds onto you and you jump right in and you cannot let go. The Souls and how they harvest them is so intriguing. Reincarnation of Souls and the love between them no matter what body they have is so beautiful. I really enjoyed reading this as an ARC.

Summary:
The Souls Harvest follows July Sofia Crimson, one of the most skilled soul reapers, tasked with harvesting souls and leaving behind empty vessels. Most of her assignments involve collecting the souls of other Harvesters, beings whom Roden, the ruler and creator, could not reach or save, and who therefore slipped beyond his control.
When July encounters a soul unlike any she has harvested before, she begins to question everything: her work, the system she serves, and even her creator himself. As she searches for answers, she is drawn into a web of secrets, dangerous situations, and revelations that shake her very existence.

Review:
This is one of the few books that managed to hook me from the very first page until the last. Words hardly do justice to how much I enjoyed exploring the world of The Souls Harvest and its characters.

The writing is magnificent, the world-building exquisite, and the characters so well crafted that I genuinely struggled to put the book down (something I sadly had to do -forcefully- because of work). The pacing is exceptionally well balanced, shifting seamlessly between fast, slow, and steady moments exactly when the story requires it.

One detail I absolutely loved is that the book begins with an index/glossary. This immediately draws you into the world and prevents confusion early on, rather than leaving readers to piece things together pages later. The story is told through multiple first-person POVs, though it is primarily centered on July. Each character has a distinct voice, clear personality traits, and is impossible to confuse with another. The balance between description and dialogue is spot-on.

This is easily one of the best books I’ve read, not only for all the reasons above, but also because it made me fall in love with two of its characters. Although July is an incredible protagonist: strong-willed, determined, and fueled by an unyielding inner fire, my heart belongs to Roden. I would love to elaborate further, but that would risk spoiling moments best experienced firsthand. The other character who completely won me over is Kris, it’s simply impossible not to love (or like) him. He embodies the perfect balance of character traits.

The book is also filled with memorable quotes. Some of my absolute favorites include:
“Truth tastes sweeter if spoken well.” - Popplewish
“A bad apple tastes rotten from whatever side you bite it.” - July
“Nobody can stop us from liking or disliking another soul, no matter what kind we belong to.” - Galen
“Even the darkest place feels like home if it’s filled with the people you love.” - July
“If you can breathe, you can fight.” - Mack
“I gave it to you. And I would do it again if that’s the only way for you to return to me, a hundred times again.” - Kris

I am truly looking forward to discovering how this story continues.

Thank you to the author for an Arc, all opinions are my own.

This book hooked me from the start and I have a feeling this is one that is going to be discussed everywhere as soon as it's released. The Souls Harvest is a dystopian urban fantasy with dashes of romance, and some of the most complex world building I've read in awhile. This world lived, breathed and spoke to me the whole time I was reading, and I absolutely loved it.

This is an absolutely must read for fans of dystopian fantasy; the world is so unique but it resonates with allusions to contemporary issues in a way to make it feel so real and grounded. There are so many twists and turns, and we get to unravel the lies and betrayals alongside our FMC, July. This is an example where an unreliable narrator in a first person POV really serves the story rather than just being there for shock value. July is such a complex FMC - she's badass yet vulnerable; she's a cog in the system but never anyone's victim. There is such a wonderful cast of supporting characters that make up our found family, and having multiple first person POVs means we get more depth to these characters and they each have their own unique voice. Mack is 100% my favourite, I can't wait for us to learn more about him! I love the fact we get more POVs the more the mysteries are unravelled, it's a very clever show don't tell that we (and July) are finally getting some answers.

The Souls Harvest had me completely gripped from start to end, and oh my what an ending! I would definitely recommend reading the glossaries at the beginning, as there is a lot of terms and world building we dive straight into from the very start. I can't wait to return to this world in the future, and see how the story continues to evolve.

"Waiting for you is the most exciting part of my life."

I was very lucky to be given an ARC for The Souls Harvest. The world and character building in TSH was flawless - there was a perfect level of detail that allowed you as a reader to get fully immersed in the world, but not overwhelmed with information.

The FMC, July, is one I fell in love with very quickly. Her intelligence and drive to search for answers, even when she knew they might not lead to the truth she’s quite ready for, was extremely enjoyable to read.

As the storyline unfolded, I was left constantly wondering what the next moves would be. And boyyy did this book get me with its twists. 🤭 I naturally had ideas and suspicions for the plot, and usually I’m not too far off, however in this case, I could not have been further from the mark.

And the ending?!? Ms Sardo - you are one wonderful and devious woman. I haven’t felt this kind of emotional damage from a cliffhanger since Onyx Storm, and I have survived the Twisted Sisters.

I always hope that a dystopian novel, after reading The Hunger Games, won't destroy your soul so much.

And then there's the story of an entire civilisation, raised on lies, which led most “people” to hunt down those they believed to be evil and who deserved to have a part of themselves taken away.

Sofia July Crimson is the perfect Soul Harvest in the hands of the Chapter, especially in Roden's.
After all, what harm can come from following the beliefs you were born and raised with?

Well, having witnessed what she should not have and experienced the forbidden first-hand, the coven will corner her, her friends and those who stand by her, whether near or far.

It's a devastating book, especially because it reminded me of 1984, Animal Farm and other more modern dystopian novels whose titles I can't remember.
But shall we talk about the ending? All these new characters, the revelations that disrupt the already fragile realities, the precarious trust of those who stood by Sof...

The battle has only just begun!

ARC review but my thoughts are always my own.

I can't believe I am about to say this about a fantasy book in this day and age, but this world building felt unique, at least to me.

The beginning had me a bit too confused to be honest, but with every chapter I understood that everything was as it should and my confusion started to align with our main characters confusion. Hehe. We went on this road towards understanding together and I became more and more invested. July is my homegirl now.

At the ending I was not only invested in July's story, but I had fallen in love with so many of the side characters, without saying too much and ending up spoiling something. I really do hope we get to know them more in the future.

The pacing is fast and the world building is strong. The last 25% had me in a chokehold with all the tension and twists. I am really looking forward to the second book. I hate waiting!

I got this as an ARC review. I loved reading this book! The author was very detailed when she described scenes in the story; it made me feel like I was one of the back characters observing the entire plot.
The beginning was very fast-paced and really invites you into the world that was created for harvesting souls. There were a lot of lies and sneakiness going around in the story, wanting you to think about what's going to happen next.
July and Galen were my favorites throughout the tale, with July especially trying to figure out what Roden was up to. Lots of POVs from the characters and what they were thinking at any given moment.
I don't like revealing spoilers, but the twists in the story were amazing in this one. I do love the book cover art, too. I am hoping there will be more stories from this universe!

Right from the start I loved the fast pace of this story with so many twists and turns, that kept me guessing all the way through.

Even with the fast pace, I was fully able to immerse myself in the world that Sardo built so well within the book. Her world and character building is amazing and kept me hooked. I loved our FMC July and the plot twists kept me wondering just who to trust just like her. And just like July I kept reading on to her the answers I craved.

Finally I am so glad that book 2 is in the works as that cliffhanger has me wanting more!

Thank you so much to the author for letting me read this as my first ARC!

ARC REVIEW.

This book had me in a chokehold,

It had me questioning everyone and their motives, if I could trust them. Exactly how you believe July would be feeling.

The tension, the fear, I loved it.

And then, the ending!? My goodness I need the next book now!

Big praise for the helpful glossary at the front of the book and the maps. I’m sure in my head I was pronouncing half of the names wrong too!
