Initially I'm excited with the masters and slaves theme especially for a m/m romance. But the slavery that was represented here left me out of sort. I guess I can't just ignore the fact that the men in here actually okay with slavery. I was expecting some kind of rebellion or the constant need for freedom or maybe HEA with an actual freedom towards the end.

Gun is the Queen's First Concubine and he got rewarded with a slave of his own. Maddox was the said slave that the Queen brought for him. For Gun who actually went through being a slave himself, I can't stomach the way he treat Maddox in the beginning. It did get better as they spend more time together, he even call Maddox with a sweet pet name. But considering this book is pretty short, things move very fast and Maddox succumb to Gun in a blink of an eye, at least for me.

All in all, this fantasy world where slavery is running rampant with the present of technology just doesn't do it for me.

At first, this seems like it would be pretty hardcore – a slave bought for another slave, a new slave with an established slave at that. But it quickly becomes apparent that is not the case.

At first, Maddox puts up quite the fight, seems to be a big strong alpha fighting against his newfound slavery. But, in a matter of days, he becomes an almost perfectly obedient picture of submission, which rather disappointed me, to be honest. One punishment by Gun, and Maddox shrank into a somewhat meek and whimpering boy and not the strong man Gun had been wanting to tame. However, Gun is thrilled with him and they settle into a rather symbiotic relationship. I think most of that had to do with the coddling and language gun used – he was extremely fond of calling Gun “Sweetie,” which felt out of character to me based on the blurb.

This was a bit of a confusing world in that it felt somewhat historical, yet there were cell phones and fancy cars, along with some other modern amenities. Yet it is set in a sort of kingdom where the Queen rules the society. Therefore, I have chosen to tag it as fantasy. I would have liked to have seen some more detail or explanation about this world and its surroundings, but the focus was more on the various characters. I loved the relationship Gun had with the Queen, and am very interested in learning more about the Queen’s other favorite, Hunter, who ended up being gifted with Maddox’ friend, Rage.

There are a few other interesting characters as well, including a glimpse at Maddox’s younger brother, Draco, who will be matched with Val. It looks like we will see more of them in the next books, and I’m hoping their stories are a little bit more involved. I prefer my slave stories with a little less “fluff,” but it was a quick enjoyable afternoon read, nevertheless. So, if you are looking for a light slave story, this would be a good way to dip your toes in the pool before diving into something more heavy.

J'ai tenu 2 chapitres.
Je ne doute pas que l'histoire doit être bien mais le nombre de fautes de conjugaison m'ont soulé au point que j'ai arrêté ma lecture.
Dommage pour ce manque de qualité.

Era da un po' che volevo leggere questa serie ma, grazie alla cronica mancanza di tempo, non ci ero ancora riuscita. Inizio dicendo che questo romanzo non è perfetto, è un pochino acerbo per certi versi, ma mi è piaciuto davvero molto! Il rapporto tra Gun e il suo schiavo inizia sotto auspici tutt'altro che favorevoli: Maddox viene regalato al bel preferito della regina per ricompensarlo dei suoi servigi e della sua lealtà. Ma Maddox fino a due settimane prima era un uomo libero, abituato a comandare, non ad obbedire. Gun dovrà mostrare anche il suo lato più umano, oltre alla sua durezza, per piegare il suo schiavo ai suoi desideri... e sono stati proprio gli attimi di dolcezza e di protezione di Gun che mi hanno fatto apprezzare maggiormente questa storia.
Anche i protagonisti dei prossimi romanzi promettono scintille perciò non mi resta che correre a leggere il resto della serie!

This is the first time I have read a book by this author and I can't wait for the next in this series. Maddox was a free man who gave no thought to the slaves that surround him, until he is taken and becomes a slave himself. He has a hard time being beaten and starved until he his sold. He then enters a new world that he doesn't understand. His new owner seems like a fair man although he is still pushing. He feels safe for the first time and this confuses him as being a slave hasn't been good for him until now. Gun being a slave himself and developing feelings for Maddox quickly tries to gently lead Maddox through the rites of ownership with a firm loving hand. This book is well written and really interesting. The characters are full of life and reveal secrets to the very end. I will definitely be looking out for this author again.

I fell into the pages meeting Gun and Maddox.
Gun is the Queens first concubine she has decided to gift him his own slave.
His slaves name is Maddox, he is trying to accept his position of slave or maybe lover?
An excellent read well written and very well translated.

L'histoire se déroule dans un monde fictif mais à une époque similaire à la notre. Il y a de la technologie de pointe, mais aussi des esclaves et même des rangs à l'intérieur de cette caste. On se retrouve au sein d'une royauté régie par une reine, plutôt bienveillante, ayant sous ses ordres tout un bataillon d'hommes qui forment son harem mais dans laquelle elle n'a tout de même pas droit à l'erreur.....Ça peut sembler un peu ambivalent le rapport technologie - esclave - harem - reine, mais ça fonctionne vraiment très bien, on a vraiment l'impression d'être dans un autre monde comme un univers parallèle.

Dans ce tome un, on suit l'histoire de Gun, un dieu blond aux yeux verts, premier concubin de la reine qui se voit offrir Maddox, jeune noble capturé et mis en esclavage quelques semaines auparavant. Autant dire que ce dernier a du mal à accepter cette condition toute nouvelle pour lui qui le prive de sa liberté et de son libre arbitre. Il tente donc de se rebeller contre cet état de fait -et on le comprend bien - mais se retrouve, sans pouvoir rien y faire, sous la coupe de Gun. Gun est lui aussi un esclave, mais c'est le haut du panier car la reine l'adule, le comble de tout et il possède même beaucoup de pouvoir par rapport à son statut.

Le mode "dressage" de Maddox par Gun nous le fait appréhender en temps que maître, un maître relativement tendre et qui s'attache très vite à son jouet, en plus de sa position, son rôle où lui-même est confronté aux règles de l'esclavage qu'il ne peut éviter. Il se retrouve souvent tiraillé entre son statut, sa place et ses désirs.

L'accent est mis sur la psychologie des deux personnages - l'opposition esclave / non esclave est bien pointée du doigt,comme sur le fonctionnement des rangs d'esclaves et un peu sur la politique de ce royaume dominée par une reine. Le côté BDSM est présent mais reste léger et émoustillant - enfin surtout pour le lecteur - car les fesses de Maddox ne seraient peut-être pas du même avis. En général, je ne suis pas une très grande fan du genre mais là, j'ai bien aimé le style de l'auteure,elle aborde le sujet de façon sympa - j'avais presque envie d'y participer, explicite mais sans vulgarité ni mots crus, ça donne presque - j'ai dit presque - envie d'essayer on se laisse bien porter par l'histoire. On découvre un Gun en maître plutôt attentif et tempéré, un Maddox très rebelle au départ mais qui va, petit à petit, découvrir des choses sur lui-même et sur le monde nouveau qui l'entoure. Ils sont assez fougueux ensemble et ça marche bien, très bien sur moi ....

Ce fut une bonne découverte qui va me faire attendre le 2nd volet avec une certaine impatience ....

et bien moi, j ai bien aimé, bien sûr on sent que c est un premier livre mais l histoire est pas mal même si parfois certaines expressions m ont énervées ( chouchou, mais c est personnel) je suivrais cet auteur.
