I work with the dead. I know what grief does to people, how it hollows them out or hardens them into something unrecognizable. I've made my peace with it.
I have a ritual I perform before every service. A quiet prayer over the body. It's the only one I know.
May you know the peace in death you were never allowed in life.
I've needed it more than most.
Ward Reddington is the last person I expected to meet on a rooftop at midnight. Loud, reckless, obscenely alive — he's the kind of man who treats danger like an inconvenience and boredom like a personal insult. He decided I needed rescuing. He was wrong. He showed up anyway.
Death has followed me my entire life. Not as a threat. As a fact. Things happen around me — near misses, accidents, moments that should have gone differently. I've learned not to fight it.
What I haven't learned is what to do with a man who walks straight into my orbit and refuses to be careful.
Wanting him felt like one more thing I should be sensible about. I wasn't. Turns out, quiet doesn't mean what most people think it means.
Then someone with a very old grievance decides Ward needs to suffer for it. And I find out exactly how much I'm willing to risk for a man who once thought I needed saving.

This is another book I’ve struggled to review. Not because it wasn’t good, but because it was so good that I’m afraid I won’t do it justice. Romeo has written another standout story, one that honestly left me speechless. This book was so much deeper than his other books and I don’t mean the story necessarily but in the emotional undercurrent and overall theme, maybe?. No idea what I’m trying to say.
I love Romeo’s style and how sweet yet spicy his stories always are. His books are consistent “feel good” reads, with characters who are well developed and interesting but not overly complex or dark. And then enters Arlo… “hold my beer.”
Arlo is the deepest character I’ve encountered in any Romeo Alexander book. He is deep, he is complex, he is poetic, he has a very dry serious demeanor, yet he’s funny and holy hell is he sexy! I pictured Loki the entire time I was reading this book. No idea…but I can’t see anyone else as Arlo.
When Arlo and Ward first met, I said, “Nope. No way these two are going to work.” And once again, I was wrong. They were perfect together. They brought out the best in each other, and everything else just balanced naturally. And another thing… Arlo is so quiet and reserved that when he took complete control and, in Ward’s words, “fucked like a rockstar,” I was shocked. I mean, shocked. I have no idea why, because it’s basically a rule at this point that Romeo’s sex scenes are hot AF and leave you begging for more.
The plot of the story was intriguing and I couldn’t tell where it was going, so when the story came to climax, I was again shocked. Never saw it coming and it played out beautifully! Of course in typical Romeo fashion even under dire circumstances there's humor and I laughed my ass off for 90% of this book and even picked up a few new sayings lol.
And one more thing, I’m convinced Romeo has a dark side just waiting to be unleashed. He’s flirted with that line in a book or two, and I’m dying to see what happens if (or when) he finally decides to lean all the way into the darkness. The man is brilliant and I will continue to read everything he writes.
It was a nice change to see such a deeper character. I loved Arlo and his views on things. To see a character with traits so different from what Romeo has wrote in the past was refreshing. Can't wait for the next book fingers crossed we get Dom!.

Finding the right brother, as a series title, could suggest any number of meanings, having now read all three of the titles currently written I am strongly of the opinion that it is a suggestion. It is suggesting that in the family, which consists of 6 children, only one of whom is a girl, there are matches to be made and anyone coming into contact with them all could find themselves looking for the match that feels right to them.
Anyone who has also read all three books will know that this is not as simple as it sounds but by the time this book closes four of the brothers have found their match, in more than one way!
Does this make this family sound a little less than ordinary? Good, it should for they are. I certainly wouldn't ever say they are dysfunctional, far from it, as quirky as their family tree is there is nothing but function among them, they are simply all very strong characters, each in their own right incredibly unique and special.
This time it is Arlo's story we find ourselves immersed in. Arlo is one of the adopted brothers and his back story, the years before and the reason why he was adopted, is heartbreaking but clearly made him into the man we meet. Arlo is a funeral director, a role that completely suits his personality - quiet, thoughtful, almost philosophical. You'll find it might take a little while to get used to his style of speech but once you do it is fascinating and insightful. A true window into his character and one that Ward soon discovers himself fascinated by.
Ward is the other half of this story, so to speak. He is as opposite to Arlo as can be and yet, in many ways they share a similar story. Ward sees Arlo. He stops to listen, takes him in, understands and respects him. He is also intrigued by the effect that Arlo has on him. Ward is the son of the state governor, his family are rich, they are from old money, he doesn't need to work, he doesn't, he socializes, has wild parties and, as far as possible, avoids his mother. He has his own money hidden away from her prying eyes and is content, well as content as he can be. It is meeting Arlo and the sad events that immediately follow, which open his eyes to how hollow his life has been to this point.
Together Arlo and Ward fascinate, intrigue and dominate the story, one another, their worlds. They are polar opposites quiet to loud, small in stature to bigger, reasonably well-off to filthy rich, yet they work and we fall deeply into their story, not for one moment wanting to come back out until we know how it will conclude.

‘There was no life without suffering. The two went hand in hand’ – Brotherhood plus!
Michigan author Romeo Alexander has demonstrated that not only does he have a talent for writing romance but also the gift for exploring opposites in people’s lives and stations in life and how exploration of apparent disparities can actually be a source for bonding. In this new novel he explores the impact of extended grief, death, and more, as the plot summary suggests: ’Funerals. Silence. Grief. It’s easier to bury emotions when you bury the dead. I even have my own quiet ritual before each service. I’ve made peace with that. Then Ward Reddington explodes into my life—reckless, loud, and incredibly alive. He’s chaos to my control, a beautiful, hedonistic playboy who shines too brightly for his own good. He drags me into his noise, his heat, his world where life doesn’t wait for permission. Death stalks me, and being with Ward only makes it worse. Wanting him feels dangerous. Falling for him feels right. But death arrives in the guise of revenge, and neither of us comes away unscathed.’
With great skill, Romeo posts an entry statement – ‘Interesting, it’s always the quiet ones…I’ve always been quiet; past tragedy saw to that’ – and opens his novel with that idea well suggested as we meet Arlo: ‘It was the moment before the storm. I liked to take that moment, before the proverbial clouds rolled in and the rain started. That place where the details were more or less sorted, and all that was left was to wait and see if there was thunder and lightning. A moment to breathe, collect myself, and be the person I needed to be. The room was prepared, the flowers were set up, and the music playing softly from the speakers. I could take time to breathe and be ready for the next few hours …’ A fine description of a funeral home atmosphere!
The range of themes in Romeo’s impressively large output of novels always encourages his readership to plead for the next volume. This is a very well-conceived and written story with a significant theme worthy of everyone’s attention!
Arlo is a quiet person, content helping others say goodbye to their loved ones at the funeral home. He buries emotions as he buries the dead. And he is aware of the many different responses people have to death. He always takes a private moment for his own small ritual as well, knowing that life always involves some degree of suffering and now the dead will find peace. He heard his two co-workers arguing as they walked toward the room. Mitchell and Elaine seemed to constantly bicker back and forth. Arlo told them he didn’t mind the lack of professionalism they hurled at each other since it was okay to be themselves but only before anyone else arrived. So Elaine hurled an insult to Arlo as well, then started fussing with the flower arrangements as an excuse to end the argument. She and Arlo would never be friends, so it didn't bother him. When they left, he said his own prayer over the deceased and now appeared professional, respectful, and ready to speak with the grieving, hold their hands, and hear their stories.
When Arlo meets Ward Reddington, an upbeat loud playboy, who seems totally opposite in personality from Arlo, he seems to actually be Arlo's perfect match. Ward feels that death seems to always be around him; and Arlo feels stalked by death. Then "Plain Face" entered their lives. What was Plain Face's plan -- who was he and why was he here? Would Arlo be able to talk him out of his deadly plan? Or would Plain Face enact his revenge... and against whom? The twists and turns will keep the reader on edge and trying to figure everything out. Don't miss this one! This author will pull you in and make you care and understand, even more so as we find out answers to the puzzling questions.
Arlo, is part of a crazy family that is full of love but sometimes it can be too much. He is a funeral director and takes his work very seriously. One night he is on top of the building just looking out and taking it all in, but then he hears movement in the building and waits for the person to come up. And this is how he needs ward. Ward comes from Money and that night he was throwing a party, his flat is full of people he didn’t really know, where the alcohol flowed and there was other things there to keep the party goes going. But when he sees a guy looking like he’s ready to jump from the building next to his, he quickly makes his way down to see if he can help. Also has a discussion with his mother who I don’t like on the way up but when he is there, there is a strange connection to this man. But as Arlo and Ward are talking, they can hear a commotion from the party and it is somebody going into drug overdose. So Arlo jumped across to a balcony on Wards building and quickly get the Narcan to help save the man. But there’s also another commotion in the bathroom. Of course the police are called the ambulance is called. And that’s how these two men meet but it starts a friendship and hooking up. It’s like ever since Arlo Met Ward things have gone wrong for ward and Arlo believes it’s his fault death follows him. I will say that I knew what the storyline was going to be as soon as Arlo spoke to Ward about who he had in that day. But that didn’t ruin the storyline for me I thoroughly enjoyed this. read Arlo really brings out the best in Ward. And Ward fits in with Arlo family dynamics. I totally dislikes awards Wards mother. I’m truly loving this series.

Quiet Grief Meets Wild Chaos and Somehow It Works Beautifully Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Tropes: Opposites attract, grief/healing, chaotic sunshine x emotionally guarded MMC, slow burn, dark tenderness, hurt/comfort
Review: Our MC is a funeral director who’s made a home inside silence — tragedy carved him down young, and burying the dead has become his way of keeping the world at arm’s length. His rituals, his quiet, his emotional distance… it all makes sense. And then Ward Reddington detonates into his life. Ward is loud, alive, hedonistic, and bright in a way that borders on reckless. He’s everything the funeral director is not, and everything he secretly craves: heat, color, joy, movement. Their chemistry is a slow-burning fuse — built on tension, humor, vulnerability, and the shock of being truly seen. But death follows the funeral director like a shadow, and loving Ward only heightens the danger. When revenge comes crashing down, both men are forced to fight for more than just their relationship — they’re fighting for survival. What works: The emotional contrast is gorgeous. The quiet MC’s grief is handled with tenderness, while Ward’s chaotic sunshine energy brings levity and depth without ever feeling shallow. Their build-up is slow, intimate, and intensely human. What might not: This leans moody and emotional. The pacing lingers in the MC’s quiet introspection, which might feel slow for readers craving high drama from page one. The tonal jumps from dark to humorous may jar some, but they ultimately make the story feel real. If you love opposites who fit together like missing pieces — one soft and grieving, one wild and blazing — this romance delivers a moving, slow-burn payoff wrapped in heat, heart, and just enough danger to keep you flipping pages.
I've been waiting for Arlo's story since the first book, and Romeo didn't disappoint! Arlo didn't turn out to be exactly as I thought he would be; he was surprisingly funny, but quieter and more haunted than I expected. Such a contrast to the other characters this author has introduced us to, but it was a compelling change of pace. Ward is both similar and different - a charismatic playboy type, hiding a deeper side. Arlo makes him feel seen, and their differences make every interaction electric. (Sometimes literally...) Their dynamic is slightly off-beat and I felt a little off-kilter after every chapter, but in the best way.
There's a specter of death that follows Arlo, which could really be a character all on its own, that adds an eerie tension to the story that had me on the edge of my seat more than once. This book is a departure from what I've read of the author before, including in this series. It is darker and more mysterious, but still filled with the same tenderness and emotion that he is known for.
This might be my favorite installment of this series (so far). And I LOVED that we got to learn a bit more about Dom. I cannot wait for the next book. I really hope it will be Dom's story!
[I received an advanced copy of this book. All reviews and ratings are my own.]
I adored the first two books in the series but this is on another level. While both couples in those had history, Arlo and Ward are strangers that meet on a drama-filled night that changes everything for them. Arlo is quiet and unassuming but with so much hidden from the view of almost everyone. Ward is a open book by comparison, an extrovert, a party boy, seemingly the complete opposite of the enigmatic and fascinating man he can't get out of his head. Their story grabbed me from the beginning, not least because the glimpses we've seen of Arlo in his brothers' books were enough to make me eager to see him reveal all his secrets. Ward is a compelling character too and, despite their obvious differences, they are perfectly matched. There's really hot and uninhibited sex too, which suprised but delighted me. There are family moments both good (Arlo's mob) and bad (Ward's mother), and the interactions of all, or any of, Arlo's family is always entertaining. There's plenty of drama along the way, and this is a much darker book than the first two. I wasn't expecting that but it was very welcome. Romeo seems to be as much of a mystery as his characters and I'm so impressed with everything he writes. We learn a bit more about Dom this time and I really love his character, so I can't wait to read his story.
I was so excited to find out that Arlo was getting his own story in the Finding the Right Brother series by Romeo. As the blurb says, “it’s always the quiet ones,” and Arlo definitely proves that true. He’s reflective, charming, and has a dominant side that comes out in the best ways—both in wit and in the bedroom. His opposite, Ward, is a rich playboy who lives life on impulse and excess. That is, until these two meet and things start to change.
The book hooked me right from the start. I wasn’t expecting all the twists and turns—it keeps you guessing in the best way. There’s also a hint of something darker that lingers over them, almost like a curse, and it turns some seemingly ordinary moments into total “wait, what just happened?” scenes.
Just like in the first two books, we get more of Arlo’s wild and lovable family. The brothers and their antics add so much warmth and humor, while Ward brings in a contrast with his strict, wealthy background. The tension between them—both emotional and sexual—really worked for me.
There are plenty of surprises, and I ended up staying up way too late one night just to finish it! I can’t wait to see which brother’s story comes next!.

I could not put this book down. The relationship building between Arlo and Ward was amazing to read. And boy oh boy was the spicy of this book prefect! Ward is bored and looking for anything that will bring him something unique in life. He wants to be entertained with difference and is rich enough to bring it into his life. But as it all starts to become stale, he crosses paths with Arlo. Arlo sees the world in a way most do not. He is quiet, pensive, and believes death has cursed him. But Arlo cannot help being drawn to Ward. The two open and honest souls, despite their early years in life, blend the other into their life that is so vastly different from the other. But somehow, it’s not that hard at all. RA has done it again with another HEA, MM, POV book that has me on the edge for more. This is the 3rd book of the “with benefits” series. You do not have to read the books before this one for this couple’s story to make sense. BUT I would recommend you do, so when the past characters show up, you are not kicking yourself BECAUSE you will want to go back and read their stories from the glimpses you get of them in this book. I would give this one 4 outta 5 peppers.

On the surface, Arlo and Ward are complete opposites, but once you start peeling away the layers, you find they have many of the same or similar attributes, making them an intriguing couple. Their connection seems to begin building instantly, though it does take time to delve into their deeper emotions and feelings and truly learn one another. Accepting each other in their entirety is a gift that each man gives and receives, and leads them to their well deserved HEA. This book started out a bit slower, almost dragging in the beginning, but soon picked up the pace and kept me engaged and entertained throughout. Arlo and Ward have a rather large number of incidents happening to them, creating an interesting mystery that lasts for the majority of the book. This book delves into some darker themes, but these are balanced nicely with some good laughs and a couple who truly are meant to be. There are plenty of steamy sexy times, an abundance of secondary characters that provide depth to the story - the majority of them likeable - and a lot of personal growth. Overall, I did enjoy this book and I would recommend it. This review is my honest opinion.

Arlo is a funeral home director but knows how to do it all and had a terrible life when younger but Matilda and Marcus adopted him after he had been in the system. Ward is the governor’s son and at odds with her so he does things as a rebellion against her, one night he has a party they see Arlo on the rooftop from his drug party and goes to see if he was going to jump to stop Arlo. Arlo just hanging out but when someone says that a person is in trouble of ODing he jumps into the apartment and saves that person. Ward and him finds someone who killed herself in Ward’s bathroom and found drugs in her not allowed at his parties and ends at Arlo’s funeral home. Ward takes Arlo on a date to a charity gala afterwards his car crashes so goes home with Arlo the next morning he is going home and his apartment had caught on fire. He moves to Arlo’s parents hotel until he can go back home plus he gets attacked in an allyway. Ward is asked to go home for a dinner so he asks Arlo and his parents to go to diner gets heated so they take a break when they go to finish they all get tied up but a grieving brother then Ward gets shot. But things work out.

I was thrilled to see Arlo finally take centre stage in Dead Serious with Benefits, and this story absolutely lived up to the anticipation. As the saying goes, “it’s always the quiet ones,” and Arlo proves that in spades. He’s introspective, steady, and carries a quiet intensity that contrasts perfectly with Ward’s larger-than-life energy. The chemistry between them is electric — a true opposites-attract pairing that feels both passionate and deeply emotional.
The mix of darkness, humour, and heart made this such a compelling read. I loved the unexpected twists and the thread of danger running beneath their romance, which gave the story real depth and momentum. The family dynamic continues to shine too — Arlo’s brothers add warmth, chaos, and plenty of laughs, balancing the darker undertones beautifully.
Romeo’s writing captures grief, desire, and redemption in a way that lingers long after you finish the last page. It’s poignant, sexy, and full of surprises — another excellent addition to the Finding the Right Brother series.

Arlo, one of six children of Matilda and Marcus, instantly intrigued me. At first, I genuinely thought he was a creepy funeral director but really, he’s just a sweet, anxious soul convinced there’s a curse of death following him. And then there’s Ward, the governor’s wild, party boy son. Talk about opposites colliding. Their first meeting? Ward thinking Arlo was about to jump off a building. Only these two could start a love story like that. I’ve loved every book in this series, but this one? This might be my favorite so far. Then again, I say that every time and I know I’ll be saying it again when Dom’s story arrives. Visiting this family always feels like coming home. They get bigger, louder, and funnier with every book, and they never fail to make me laugh hard enough to spit out my drink. Honestly, I want an invite to one of their family dinners. And that first kiss was soft and intense all at once. You can practically feel their emotion. I absolutely adored this one. I loved the first two books in this series, so I was really looking forward to Dead Serious with Benefits. Romeo Alexander is an excellent author who knows how to quickly captivate his readers. He has a great writing style and his characters are also deeply developed. Unlike the first two books, this one is much darker, but no less exciting and captivating. Arlo and Ward meet on a memorable night, after which nothing is the same anymore. The two are very different. While Arlo is rather quiet and reserved, Ward is very open and more of a party guy. But Ward can't get Arlo out of his head. I found both characters likable and captivating, their chemistry was right, and the attraction was clearly palpable. So there were some very hot moments! The story is entertaining, there is quite a bit of drama, which keeps the tension high, and whenever the family comes into play, it gets particularly interesting. It was an absolute pleasure to read this book and I am already looking forward to the author's next book!
This was gonna be my favorite couple of the whole series, but the ending ruined it for me, also, the bonus scene I half read.
One thing is forgiveness, and being who you are, that's all you, but the you involve other people who were deadly hurt, and you won't change, but expect them to act according to your beliefs? You're not only being true to your person, you are being demanding and inflexible towards your partner. You can't act as compassionate towards a total stranger, and then act like an unmovable rock towards your partner.
What about his feelings, where is the compromise? How is this fair, you act to forgive and be at peace, because you understand, but you can't understand that what you are asking the person you love to do is unreasonable?
If you forgive the "killer", then you have to forgive the mother, if not it's hypocritical of your whole being. Just because your sad story match with some of his, that's bullshit.
This is my favorite book in the Finding the Right Brother series so far. The storyline, the pacing, the way the author wrote it all just works. Arlo and Ward are such interesting characters, and their relationship feels natural as it grows and shifts throughout the story.
Arlo’s family makes appearances throughout the story and brought that perfect touch of humor and chaos. As the story progressed, you could really feel the tone shift between Arlo and Ward. It went from banter and lighthearted to something deeper and more meaningful.
The story also felt unique and different from so many other romance books I’ve read and I’ve read a lot of them so that’s really saying something. It’s hard to stand out in this genre, but this book absolutely does.

This book is part of the Finding the right brother. This is the story of Arlo and Ward. Arlo works at a funeral home and believes that death stocks him. He had a horrible childhood and has been happy since with his adopted family. Arlo is calm, quiet and happy to blend into the background. Ward is a rich playboy who spends his nights partying. He is flamboyant and loves the spotlight. He is also the only child of his mom the Govenor and his dad. Both Arlo and Ward have a very diverse background and upbringing. This is their story. The book is very well written and easy to read. I found myself caught up in the story and the surprises. I enjoyed the book and watching Ward and Arlo's relationship grow. another great read by this author.

I always forget how great Romeo Alexander is in advancing his stories through good dialogue. I especially loved it in this book. As for a first in this series we go from strangers to lovers.
The conversations connecting the characters (that’s a mouthful) is how they forge their bond and how we as readers start to root for them. And oh boy how I root for them.
I loved how their banter and serious conversations brought them together rather quickly but not surprisingly. No weird pining or questions and more lustful connections.
Now there is just Dom left unless Mathilda decided to take in another kid….
Arlo was the quiet member of the wonderfully messy family featured in this series - and is definitely my favourite. He was so true to himself the whole time, and having dominant parts in his growing relationship with Ward really showed his unexpected depths. The idea of a curse that convinced them that all the failed attempts to kill them weren't really against them was an unusual idea but fit them well. Ward and Arlo fit together perfectly, developing a truly equal relationship (including the physical side). The danger at the end had some somewhat surprising causes and results. I received a complimentary copy of this book via Booksprout (thanks) and am happy to leave a voluntary review.
This is the Third book in the Finding the Right Brother series. I really loved reading this series. This is Arlo and Wards story.
Arlo has always been the quiet one. While Ward has been a bit of a Richie Rich playboy. But together everything is sizzling hot. Arlo has a dominant side and Ward cant resist him.
I think these two are my favourite couple so far. The story is full of twists that kept me glued to my seat.

I really enjoyed this book. Good world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Arlo and Ward. They were opposites in personality- Arlo quiet and contemplative, and Ward rich and impulsive. Yet something in them clicked.
“We really must get you to play poker one day,” I told him when he saw me watching him. “Not just for the poker face, but because I suspect that deep down, there might be a devious card player waiting to be released.”
I liked how they brought out something in each other and there was good chemistry between them. I liked the pacing of their story and building of their relationship. I also liked the supporting characters. 4 stars
This story pulls you in and has you connecting with the Disfunctional family from the start. You also get exposed right quick to the upper crust of society and their privilege. This story develops into the crossover between both main characters and their love for each other and the needs for acceptance for who you are as a person and not allowing the society " norms " to define you. There's growth in all characters involved and the discriptivness of family dynamics are spot on for many reads. The action and suspense added gives an edge that compels the reader to finish this great story.

I was thrilled Arlo finally got his own book in Finding the Right Brother. He’s quiet, witty, and surprisingly dominant—especially with Ward, the impulsive rich playboy who turns out to be his perfect match. Their chemistry is intense, and the story is full of twists, emotional tension, and a touch of mystery. Arlo’s wild family antics bring warmth and humor, while Ward’s more rigid, privileged upbringing adds a compelling contrast. The emotional and sexual tension between Arlo and Ward is palpable and perfectly paced. I can’t wait for the next brother’s story!
This was a fantastic book! I really enjoyed Arlo and Ward story. These two are opposites but they are perfect for each other. Arlo is really sweet while Ward is standoffish. I really enjoyed the connection, tension, drama, love and chemistry that book offered. I thought that this was a great addition to this series and I can't wait to see what happens next!.

Wow. That is a lot of drama. I was not expecting it, honestly. This is a very quick paced, well-written addition to the Finding the Right Brother series from Romeo Alexander. I LOVED Arlo’s very unique voice and character. He fit beautifully with Ward and their banter was exceptionally entertaining. This is probably my favorite of the series so far, though I am looking forward to Dom’s story as well.
Awsome! Romeo, has definitely upped his game! I love it when people you don't think will fit, actually fit perfectly and are exactly what the other needs. Ward and Arlo, brought out the best in each other and filled each other's empty space. Add to that the adventure and mystery, both men stretched themselves and became better more fulfilled men. This is a read straight through, no way can you put the book down story. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved Mason's story but the oh I can't think of the word so I'll go with atmosphere between Ward & Well is AWESOME 👍 The sexual tension between them in their conversations blows the top off the chart!!!! Let alone when they finally do have sex and it was hilarious when meeting Mason that Ward beat him at his own game!!! Then you get the anguish & hatred to murder before you get the understanding - fantastic book Thank you so much - Lori
