With no other option, Tamara became a stripper to afford the fight for her son. When her brother’s best friend walked in, everything changed.
Eddie’s life was already complicated. Keeping his Irish enemies at bay and running the gentlemen’s club left no room for distractions... or attraction.
When passion ignites amidst chaos, they try to resist each other. Mixing business with pleasure is a disaster waiting to happen, but if they keep it secret,no one will get hurt.
As bodies pile up, and the truth unravels, will Tamara stay by Eddie’s side? Can he shield her from danger, or will he watch it all burn to the ground?
Victoria Jayne is the epitome of a Jersey Girl. She doesn’t [know how to] pump her own gas, enjoys pork roll, and grew up on the Jersey Shore.
She’s lived throughout the state of New Jersey and remains there with her sports journalist husband and two darling daughters.
When not writing, Victoria enjoys baking with her daughters, rooting for the New Jersey Devils, thinking of home improvement projects, and staying up far too late chatting on Discord.
From reading the previous books, Eddie was the character I was most interested in seeing. He always seemed so no-nonsense and level-headed. Apparently, that all goes out the window when he reconnects with his best friend’s little sister.
When Eddie and Tamara see each other for the first time in years, there is an instant connection. Eddie is not used to having actual feelings for anyone other than his family, and that can even be a stretch at times since they often do things he doesn’t agree with or understand. It was amusing to watch him fall so hard and fast for Tamara…and not understand what was happening. Poor sap. For her part, Tamara had always had a thing for Eddie, so seeing him again just rekindled her childhood crush. But she’s a single mom now. A single mom struggling to pay the bills, fighting a custody and child support battle, and with no extra time in sight to pursue any sort of love match. Not that Eddie or Tamara are looking for love.
In the beginning, I was afraid the story was going to look down on erotic dancers. Tamara didn’t like that she was dancing as one of her jobs, and the manager of the club where she worked was a sleazebag with a drug problem. That’s not the case, though. This story shows different elements of the industry. There are women in the story who love what they do, and others who are just trying to make ends meet. Eddie, when he comes in to take over the club, makes it clear that the dancers and other women who work for him are to be respected and have free agency when it comes to what they are and are not willing to do when they are on shift.
Tamara and Eddie are hot together. No matter how much they know it’s a bad idea to get together, they cannot seem to resist when they are anywhere near one another. But even after Eddie goes all-in, Tamara still has a huge wall up. She is not used to having help. She doesn’t ask for it and rarely accepts it. Eddie is used to taking care of things and just wants to make Tamara’s life easier. There are some compromises made, and Tamara does finally see the light on some of the relief Eddie is offering, yet she still holds back on taking it all.
I was really enjoying this story. I loved the chemistry between Tamara and Eddie, and the story flowed smoothly. As much as I was often annoyed by the decisions the characters made, I still understood their positions. With the heavy lifting of world-building having already been done in the first book of the series, Queen of Blades, this story is allowed to really revel in the love story of Eddie and Tamara. There is still a lot going on within the Dixie Mafia world. Things are not all roses and kittens there, and that becomes very clear by the end of this book. Which is where things took a turn for me.
To be clear, I still greatly enjoyed this story. I just do not like being blindsided by a cliffhanger. So I’m warning you, if you’re the same, there is a cliffhanger in this book. Tamara and Eddie get their HFN in many ways, but there is a lot of trouble brewing in the underground world they live in. This book ends with a shock. I wish I had known. It was disappointing and, honestly, changed my rating of the overall story.

The brother's best friend trope is done so well in this book, i was swooning, gigling and kicking my feet the entire time. The attraction between Eddie and Tamara is SCORCHING!❤️🔥
Reading this was very interesting especially when i learnt that Tamara is a single mom, trying to make ends meet while still chasing her dreams. And then there's Eddie our macho boy like the man he's ready to be her knight in shining armor. To say I’m so into him is an understatement🫠.
I love everything about Eddie, the way he carries himself, how he respects everyone untill they cross a line, and above all, how he's willing to put his feelings and desires aside so that he can listen, understand, and support Tamara without making her feel uncomfortable. That was beautiful.
All I know is never inconvenience Eddie or mess with his Tamara, because he doesn't second-guess using his g*n. He's unhinged and it looks good on him.
Everything was going on so well and i thought the plot was wrapping up nicely, until BOOM, it all went down. Just thinking about the possible outcome has left me hurt and not ok😭.
I swear the last-minute turn of events in Victoria's books will be the end of me.The Suspense is killing me...
🎀Fav Quotes: ✨️“I want her” ✨️If killing two men in her honor wasn’t enough, he’d taken several punches from her brother. As far as he was concerned, he and Tamara were practically married. ✨️“If you’re worried about Zach and me being in danger, I don’t believe Eddie would put us in harm’s way, and if we were to, somehow, find ourselves in a jam, he’ll get us out of it.”
💚Tropes: ♡Mafia Romance ♡Brother’s best friend ♡Age Gap - 12yrs ♡Single Mom ♡Workplace Romance ♡Touch her and D!e ♡Third Person Pov ♡She fell first but he fell harder ♡Overprotective MC
This series is for sure my favorite Victoria Jayne series that I’ve read. The action, the drama, the romance, the overall insanity that occurs in the plot: it’s so addicting. I’m obsessed. I also love that we got to start this series with a novella that introduced us to the world and characters, especially because since reading that novella, I have a special connection to this series and world that I would’ve missed out on otherwise.
This story in particular has the messiest character dynamics ever and it makes me love it all the more. They shouldn’t be together, especially because of course he’s her brother’s best friend, but also because they come from two entirely different worlds. And now, her secret rests in his hands. And on top of that, they have this secret, forbidden romance vibed relationship that they don’t want anyone, especially her brother to know about.
But when the mafia is involved, secrets never really stay secrets do they. And how else could that possibly end than with some death, some chaos, some torn alliances, and of course, some heartbreak (but maybe not the way you think).
I can’t wait to see what crazy comes out of this world next. It’s so addicting.
Thank you so much to Victoria Jayne for an arc of this book!
Tamara doesn’t want to be out celebrating but it provides an opportunity to meet Eddie again. Eddie was her brother’s best friend growing up and her first crush. Tamara wasn’t expecting to run into him again the next night at the club she works at where Eddie is the new owner. The more Eddie learns of Tamara, the more he wants to help her. But Tamara wants to earn her way not get handouts and that’s what Eddie’s offering. So what happens when Tamara learns Eddie’s a part of the Dixie Mafia?
Tamara and Eddie agree to try a relationship at the end of this book. The book is a standalone but leaves off on a cliffhanger.
I loved how strong Tamara is for how much life has thrown at her and I can see why she doesn’t just want handouts. If Eddie knew them growing up, one would think he would know that too. I do wonder if Eddie will ever come clean as to what he’s done for Tamara to keep her safe or if he wants to keep her safe from his world and not tell her. Or if Eddie will tell his family about Tamara and what they will think of her as I don’t think his brother approves of her without knowing her.
I received an advanced review copy from the author, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Eddie & Tamara gave me all the workplace trope vibes, and I was rooting for them from the start. Eddie is all about good times mixed with Dixie Mafia business. If you’ve read book one, this is Paul’s brother. (don’t worry, can still read as a standalone but has better flow if you grab book 1) He’s charming, confident, and knows exactly how to step up when it counts. Tamara is a single mom superhero doing whatever it takes to keep her life running. Between working at the club Eddie now runs, juggling another job, and going to school, she is pure determination. I loved her strength and her constant push to stay in control of her life, even when things get messy. One night out meant to unwind turns into that kind of night with Eddie. From there, Eddie slides into protector mode, fully committed to taking care of Tamara and her child. That said, Tamara isn’t blind to Eddie’s lifestyle, and her discomfort with his world adds tension to their relationship. Victoria, that cliffhanger hit HARD. Painfully hard. Now I'm stuck in the waiting game. If you love romance with strong single mom energy, protective MMCs, workplace tension, and spice mixed with heart, this has it all.
if you're looking for a good ol' Mafia romance, this is it. Holy cow. I loved it.
Childhood crush, to a birthday fling, to possessiveness. Absolutely delicious.
Eddie is very much a morally black character. As in, he is only nice for a small handful of people, but will do anything he can for them to be happy and not feel bad about those steps. It was so entertaining reading his POVs because it was very "yeah, I did that thing....so what?".
Upstanding citizen? no. Upstanding book boyfriend? yes.
I also enjoyed Tamara. She was meant to be strong, but life kept knocking her down and she had to let go of that part of herself....until Eddie came along.
Such a whirlwind of a book. I HAVE to know what happens next (did I scream at the last line? maybe).
This second book in the Dixie Mafia series took me a bit to get into, much like the first, and while I did enjoy it, I felt less engaged and committed to the read than the previous book or novella. This time we follow another brother of the Mafia MC from the last book, and his romance with a single Mum/stripper who just happens to be his best friend’s sister. With some of the gore and horror I associated with the last book, and expected with the mafia theme, but a calmer feel … right up until the epilogue! Left on a cliffhanger ensuring you will come back for the next book, and I will, because while not a fantastic book for me, it was a genuinely good read and now I need to know what happens.
Ma’am, what was that ending!! I love this series, we are following Eddie, the other brother from the Dixie Mafia and Tamara, his best friend's little sister. Two of my favourite tropes. After a night that leaves Tamara to be a single mom, she does everything she can to keep a roof over their head, that is until Eddie buys the club she dances at and has other plans. She has always had a thing for him as a teenager, but knows it “shouldn’t” happen. I enjoyed Tamara's strength, standing up for what she knows she deserves and she also knows when to be soft as well. Eddie is great, he’s gentle just for her and very protective of her and her son. They worked great together. I need to see what’s next, that ending was heartbreaking.
Victoria Jayne has done it again. A mesmerizing book full of twists and turns when you least expect it. Eddie and Tamara bring a new meaning to work place second chance mafia romance. From their first encounter to the end of the book things get hot and heavy and keeps you on your toes. The story ends with you wanting more. I love how she ties her characters together and makes the story work as both a sequel and a stand alone.
