This book is the perfect combination of cozy and magical.

The book is well written, with a smooth flow and is the kind of book you curl up with.

The magic system is simple yet intriguing. You learn things slowly through the book and not everything is thrown at you in the first chapter (also there's a glossary at the end, if you need it).

The characters are simply awesome. Isla and Andrew make such a sweet couple. I love when the FMCs are mentally and emotionally strong and mature and Isla's strength grew throughout the book.
And Andrew...he is the kind of MMC we need! He is not the hunky muscular guy you read about, but he is smart, is pretty good at his magic, a bit of a show off (imagining Andrew smirking), but he loves Isla to the core. Plus he wears glasses!!!

The side characters are all well placed and developed, playing an important part in the story but not hindering the couple's journey.

The mystery element is important, but I liked how it did not overtake the whole narrative of the book and yet you will get enough action to enjoy the story.

Overall a great first book in the trilogy and I am really excited to read what the author writes next.

I had the privilege of proofreading Sigils of Fate, and it's FANTASTIC.

Our two MCs basically embody the lyrics of Taylor Swift's "Timeless," so if the romanticism in that song speaks to you, I implore you to read this book!!!

AN ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!!!!

In 1940s England, Isla’s orderly academic life at an ivy-cloaked university shatters when she discovers she can wield the secret Aetheric Arts, ancient elemental magic tied to hidden sigils and dangerous truths.

As an underground crime ring targets those poised to change the future of medicine, Isla is drawn into escalating danger and a mysterious connection to Andrew. With betrayal closing in, she must master her powers and choose whether to embrace a destiny that could change everything.

What you'll love:
1940s acadamia setting
historical fantasy
multiple pov
soulmates
elemental powers/magic
suspense and danger
found family
swoony romance
rivals to lovers vibe

I love that magical feeling when you pick up a new book and, within just a few pages, you already know it is going to be a favorite...and then it somehow keeps getting better better with every chapter! This book did that for me and before long, had completely wrapped itself around my heart!

The acadamia setting was rich and completely immersive, the elemental magic felt fresh and unique, and the story had a perfect balance of danger, mystery, and emotional depth. Add in a swoony soulmates romance, fiercely loyal friendships, and some insane plot twists, and I was all in for this one. This book drew me in and refused to let go. There are some scenes that will live rent free in my head for a long, long time.

Andrew is not your typical brooding, muscular hero, and that made him even more irresistible. His intelligence, his glasses, and, most importantly, the way he loves Isla had me completely undone. No spoilers, but… let's just say, bring your smelling salts, because wow. Isla was strong, capable, and refreshingly complex, with her own meaningful journey of growth. The chemistry between Andrew and Isla was off-the-charts, filled with tension, tenderness, and moments that had me holding my breath. I will be shipping these two until the end of time.

The side characters were just as compelling, each adding depth and heart to the story (and I am desperately excited for the rest of the trilogy). And the found-family moments were pure perfection, bringing heartfelt warmth to the story.

I could not get enough of this book, and this author is officially a must-read for me going forward.

10/10, no notes. No hesitation. GO READ this one immediately! You can thank me later.

I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.

Wow!

I absolutely loved the fantasy element-wielding woven into the real world of a 1940s university in WWII England.

One of the main ideas presented from the beginning is that these elemental wielders have influenced and caused major events throughout history and this story shows us how and why certain events may have been manipulated in this world.

The fantasy/magic elements of this story were well developed and explained and we got to learn and understand more as the story progressed. We get to read from many viewpoints, heroes and villains, and it all worked well in bringing this story together.

Every character is well developed with their histories explained and tying into who they are now and how they interact with others and their world.

The main story follows Isla, a young female professor who is attacked after a lecture and discovers that she has terra- (earth) wielding abilities. Andrew, a young male professor and aqua wielder, has been her charming rival side she stayed working at the university. After her attack, Andrew, as well as her best friend Juliette and Edmund, an investigator assigned to her case, both of them element wielders, rotate through protecting her and helping her learn how to control her new abilities.

With her life repeatedly threatened, Isla and her friends must uncover the reasons for the attacks and do all they can to protect her and uncover the secrets that are causing the threat.

This was an absolute whirlwind of a book! It will hook you from the beginning and the next thing you know you’ve binge read it in one sitting.

Absolutely check out this book if you like elemental magic (think Avatar the Last Airbender), sweet romance, mystery, and amazing friendships and found family. I sincerely hope we have a book 2 in the near future and there is definitely a pair of side characters that I would LOVE to have front and center in the own story.

Thank you to Emma Kate Ferreira for including me on her ARC team! I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

“Most of us never get to choose the battles we're drawn into… but we still decide what sort of people we'll be in the middle of it.”

That theme weaves through the story beautifully, highlighting characters who must decide—again and again—who they are willing to be when it matters most.

Set in 1940s England, Sigils of Fate drops readers into a dark academia–tinged university where ivy-covered walls hide ancient sigils, elemental magic, and secrets powerful enough to change the future. Isla’s carefully ordered academic life begins to unravel when she discovers she can wield the Aetheric Arts—a hidden, dangerous magic tied to fate, history, and time itself. As an underground crime ring targets those who could revolutionize medicine, Isla is pulled into a world of betrayal, peril, and impossible choices…including the deep, magnetic pull she feels toward Andrew, a love that may be written into the fabric of time.

Emma Kate Ferreira is officially an auto-buy author for me. Finding fantasy that delivers rich world-building, high stakes, and a clean romantic arc is rare—and this book absolutely delivers. The magic system is fascinating, the friendships and found family moments are heartfelt, and the good-vs-evil tension is chef’s kiss perfection. Fair warning: once you hit about 50%, sleep becomes optional. This story grabs hold and does not let go. Zero regrets, my friends!

If you love Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, or The Lunar Chronicles, this one deserves a top spot on your TBR. I’m already counting down for the rest of the trilogy (and yes—Juliette’s book is going to be incredible).

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Content/Trigger Notes: Fantasy violence, peril and suspense, betrayal, uses of magic, mentions of reincarnation, romance with references to fate, and kisses only.

Happy Reading 📚✨

“I am not diminishing your pain, nor your longing to be healed. But every scar you bear, every wrinkle you gain, every gray hair and callous that is to come, is beautiful. It means you lived.”

There’s a lot to like about this story! I really enjoyed the whole premise. The writing is engaging and descriptive. There’s plenty of action and mystery, and I really enjoyed learning the magic system alongside Isla. Isla is strong and independent but comes to recognize that letting people into her life isn’t a weakness but something that adds richness and strength to it. Andrew is so sweet, caring, patient, and protective. He anticipates Isla’s needs so well. Their love story is beautiful!

What I enjoyed –
+ 1940s, England
+ University setting
+ Elemental magic system
+ Lovely cast of characters
+ Told through multiple points of view
+ Mystery to solve
+ Clear good and evil
+ Super sweet and swoony romance
+ Fated love
+ Academic rivals to more
+ He falls first

This is book one in a series, but I wouldn’t say the ending is a cliffhanger. While part of the story gets wrapped up, there’s still plenty to look forward to in books two and three.

The magic is a born-with gift that’s honed with practice. There are three types of Aetherians – Wielders, Summoners, and Fated. Reincarnation is part of the magic system for Fated Aetherians. The reincarnation element threw me off a bit, especially since I’m a Christian, but it doesn’t seem to be at all related to anything religious. Here’s a quote that explains that part a bit – “A Fated couple’s love transcends time, and although they can still die, the permanence of their love allows them to be reborn over and over.” I hope this isn’t a spoiler, but I wish I had known more about this part before reading.

Content: kisses-only romance (not overly detailed, some thoughts of desire, remembering past intimate moments between a husband and wife – nothing described); clean language; lots of fighting and many perilous, life-threatening situations; on page death (not described in detail); childhood trauma; being an orphan

Why did I sleep on this book? This is exactly what I want in an urban fantasy, fated romance, elemental magic story!

Isla is a university professor in York, England who, upon awakening her magical powers, discovers a world of hidden magic and a threat against her life. With the help of her librarian friend Juliette, her annoyingly smug colleague Andrew, and a magical investigator named Edmund, she learns to master her abilities. Together, they seek to unravel the mystery of who is after Isla, and Isla learns that there is more to Andrew than she thought.

I liked how the reader learns about the Aetheric Arts as Isla does. It made it feel natural and easy to understand without info-dumping. This magic system was clever, more than just wielding and summoning one of the four elements, but also including extra abilities like reading lies, emotions, or memories.

Fated lovers isn't always my jam, but I loved the way that this one was written. The romance felt equally as important as the mystery plot. I loved the way Andrew pined for Isla, but also his patience and restraint as he waited for her feelings to catch up to his. I also really appreciated that Andrew was not the typical tall, strong hero.

My one disappointment with this book was that, while it is set in England and written by a Brit, it did not use British spelling. I find it jarring to see American spelling used by British characters and in a British setting.

What you'll find in this book:
*one-sided rivals to lovers
*elemental powers
*fated lovers
*he falls first
*mystery
*found family
*1940s England, academic setting
*multiple 3rd person POV

Content warning: discovery of dead body, near-drowning, fantasy violence
Romance level: 3/7 (kisses only)

Elemental magic and fated mates, what more could you want?

Set in 1940's England, this historical fiction fantasy is the first in a trilogy. Isla, a botanist professor is a woman in a man's world. She has to fight for position and now that her element terra powers have come to light, she needs to also fight for her life. Isla, along with her best friend Juliette, a rival professor who might just turn out to be much more than she expected and a detective, all of whom have elemental magic themselves, must fight against the underground crime ring that's targeting Isla and others who can help change the future of medicine.

My thoughts: I enjoyed the plot and the characters were all unique and complimented each other well. I liked the idea of the elemental magic systems and all the different abilities that came with each one. The chapters were varied in length which made reading go faster at times as this does have many chapters and it's on the longer side (IMO). I feel like it could have been shortened a little but what do I know 🤷🏼‍♀️
The relationship between Isla and Andrew was a truly sweet one and while I personally don't believe in the idea of reincarnation/physical rebirth, it was in fact a fantasy and make believe story so I felt it fit for what the author was trying to convey.
I would recommend to anyone who likes elemental magic systems, high stakes, lots of magic fights and escaping death as well as sweet fated mates who find each other through many lifetimes, this book is for you.

Content: this was a clean book. No language, gore (only mention of blood and wounds), no spice, kisses only mildly descriptive. I'd even suggest this for YA readers.

This is the first book in The Aetheric Arts Series and is a book you'll definitely want to check out.

I loved how it was set in the 1940s and pulls in a magical element to some real historical events. The story was compelling and kept me intrigued - which had me devouring it in little over a day. I loved the characters. And honestly, I loved that the MMC, Andrew, was more of a slim built, academic individual. He was still massively protective, had his quiet strengths, and would do anything to keep Isla safe, but he didn't have the typical MMC male physique.

I also loved the side characters and am so glad that we will get more of them in the series. One character I would really like to know more about is George. This book hints a little bit about his past, but we don't get much of his history.

I'm really excited for the rest of this series. Trust me, this is one you won't want to miss.

Quotes:
"True love makes us more powerful. It brings out the best in both people."

"What if I find someone and they leave? Or no one wants me that way? What if this mark is just a reminder that I'm not wanted?"

"But don't let your past keep you from finding love in your future."

"...what girl doesn't want to be fed cake?"

"The unfamiliar only feels strange until it becomes known. Love - true love - is much the same. We must never grow complacent about it, but we can allow it to feel like a gift rather than fear the unknown."

"Some people leave marks on you, lasting more than a lifetime."

Sigils of Fate by Emma Kate Ferreira is a book that pulled me in immediately and completely amazed me. This is a historical fantasy set in York England in the 1940’s. There is a dark academia feel to it, and I can’t even tell you how much I loved the old university setting with hidden secrets!!!

The characters are incredible and felt like dear friends! Their amazing personalities had me falling in love with them!

I adore Isla and Andrew. Their rivals to more story is utterly romantic! I highlighted sooo many quotes, and each one had my heart melting! I also looove Juliette, Edmund, and George.

I haven’t read a historical fantasy in a while, and this one was such a treat!

Set in the mid-1900s England, Isla is a botanist professor at an English university who life is quickly upended when she learns she can wield elemental magic—and that someone wants her dead. To protect Isla and help her learn the Aetheric Arts, her friends ban together…including Andrew, a colleague she can hardly stand but who is inexplicably attentive to her.

The plot in this book is simply stunning. I love elemental magic and how it’s incorporated into this series. And don’t even get me started on the longing in this book! Isla’s past has made it difficult for her to open up, and Andrew’s past has made him long for a love that transcends time. He was a highlight for me in this book—steady, unassuming, and undeniably devoted to Isla. These two are so sweet and their love is soft yet binding.

Not only is the romance gorgeous, but the friendships and side characters are so fun! I’m forward to seeing them get their own stories!

An open and go fantasy setting, fated I'll-cross-the-universe-to-find-you love, mystery with twists and turns, and ancient dark academia setting?

Yup, I'm in!

The YEARNING in this book! The magic of being fated combined with this "it was always you" trope played out perfectly for Emma and Andrew's romance. I also loved that Andrew was not a big, buff guy, but rather a nerdy, spindly, smart hero with a complete lack of upper arm strength. It gave him a realism and relatability that I appreciated.

One of my favorite parts was the giant fight scene towards the end! There's this epic, multi chapter fight with tons of cool magic and great moments. I felt like the magic system was simple enough to grasp pretty quickly but still complex enough to make for an interesting story and plot. I'm excited to see what the author does with the second book.

I also loved how the book was written from different perspectives. Bad guys always seem badder when we get to see the world from their perspective. One tip I do have is to pay close attention to the dates at the beginning of the chapter, as the author occasionally skipped forward a few days in time to keep the story moving.

Overall, a fun read! Can't wait for the grumpy/sunshine vibes in the next one. 4.5 stars rounded up!

"The moment her hand found mine, I understood what no book could teach: that eternity is not measured in stars or centuries, but in keeping my vows."

A promising new series, complete with an intriguing magic system, a fiendish plot against humanity, loveable characters, and sweet romance, all set against the backdrop of British academia during World War II.

I loved the characters and connections in this story. It was so interesting watching the romance from the two MC's very different perspectives/experiences. I adored Isla and Andrew's story, it was sweet and complicated, and worth fighting for.

The magic system is unique and the gifts/abilities are utilized in very inventive ways.

The side characters are just screaming to have their stories told. Juliette, in particular provided a welcome sense of levity in the midst of the darkness with her determination to find the perfect superhero names.

I was so excited to find out this is going to be a series and can't wait to see how the story unfolds in Book 2!

The Aetheric Arts, book 1

Man oh man. Another wonderful read by the amazing Emma! I truly enjoyed every spellbinding moment. The real emotions and creative world was something to behold. I will be recommending this read to everyone I know.

1940’s England
Conspiracies
Hidden Abilities
Secrets
Mystery
Fated Souls

Isla. Such a powerful woman with such a humble heart. Thrust into a world beyond comprehension and handles it well, but expresses fears through it all. Powerful because she won’t back down even though it would be easier. Standing with her convictions. I really enjoyed how realistic this story was. Real reactions to impossible situations.

Andrew. Oh what a sweetheart. Not the usually tall dark and handsome, but tall, stalwart, and ingenuitive (apparently I’m making up this word). He knows his strengths and weaknesses and doesn’t let them determine the fate of the one he loves.

AND the side characters were really stars of the book as well. Juliette, Edmund, and George! I loved each for what they brought to the story and so many more characters added depth.

The real patent love throughout the story was the stuff of dreams. Small touches, thoughtful care, patient understanding, and the emotions that arise from near death experiences and being saved! Next level.

Favorite Quotes:
“most of us never get to choose the battles we’re drawn into. We just find ourselves in them, whether we’re ready or not. But choice or no choice, we still decide what sort of people we’ll be in the middle of it.”

“I just like holding you.”

••I give 5 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Don’t let your past keep you from finding love in
your future.”

-My friends, SIGILS OF FATE, is such an epic first book in the exciting Aetheric Arts Series. It’s an amazing work of fantasy with the delightful flavor of 1940s England. Thid is not a work of historical accuracy. Instead, it asks what if...?—weaving and blending exciting flawless threads of history into a world of dear magic, invention, and imagination. It is also a clean romance with endearing characters and high-stakes adventure. For fans of dark academia vibes, there is a beautiful love written across centuries and heroines who don’t back down with bravery. Without giving too much away my friends, it is absolutely a story that intrigued, inspired, and had me captivated all along the way. It definitely is one I can’t stop thinking about! I am eagerly anticipating more for more to come in this series and to be honest, anything @emma.ferreira_author writes. Her writing this year has impressed me greatly. Sigils Of Fate, I#is absolutely worth reading and loving!❤️📚💯✨

“Every scar you bear, every wrinkle you gain, every gray hair and callous that is to come, is beautiful. It

it was okay. I can't put my finger on what exactly I didn't like. I do feel like I'm probably not the targeted audience. I also felt like the conversations between the characters didn't really feel natural.

I also feel like we needed a little more world building but I do appreciate that the author put information in the front and the back of the book to help you understand what's going on.

it also gave me an X-Men vibe with the whole professors and school for gifted kids but this time in aetheric arts.

my daughter liked it a little better than I did so I'll probably get the second one for her to read.

If you're into fantasy read with charming characters and action packed scenes Sigils of Fate is for you. Some fun things about this book is how many different view points there are. You get to know whats going on the the heads of so many characters. The action keeps coming and the story is very intriguing.

Favorite Line: She realized that sometimes fear could hold people captive, but movement—even the smallest action—was the first step to freedom.

First of all this book was so original! It is set in 1940’s England and I loved the magic system and the academic setting! If you enjoyed Town of Shadows by Jessica Scarlett minus the Caraval Vibes of the under city then this will be right up your Alley.

Isla is a botany professor who has a weird episode during on of her lectures and finds out not only is her life in danger but she is also one of a select few Fated Terra Summoners of the Aethertic Arts. Is that a mouth full? Yes but when you read the book the different types of magic are clearly explained and you might even want to mark that section to go back and refer to until you have it down!

This one has romance, suspense, mystery and plenty of action to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Emma knocks another book out of the park with this new series full of history, elemental magic, and action. I was fully immersed in the story and loved the academia setting. I loved all the characters and watching this group of friends come together to fight a powerful group set to terminate Isla. Elemental magic is my favorite and it was written so well. This is the first book in The Aetheric Arts trilogy. Isla discovers she has the sigil mark, a tattoo like marking on her wrist, which means she can wield the Aetheric Arts- a secret form of elemental magic. This book quickly became a new favorite of mine! I'm a sucker when it comes to magic...add some historical fantasy, mystery, adventure and clean romance, and it's the perfect story!

The writing is beautiful and I devoured this book in a little over a day. I loved the relationship building between Isla and Andrew. I love that Andrew is a nerdy, extremely sweet guy, that wears glasses and will protect Isla at all costs. The side characters are also developed well and play an important part to the story.

This is my first book of Emma Kate Ferreira and I loved it! I can't wait for her next book in this trilogy to come out.

Quotes:
"We often dismiss what we cannot explain as myth or madness simply because we do not yet understand it. But that doesn't mean it isn't following a logic- just one we've yet to comprehend."

"It is not darkness that is evil; it is how we choose to use the darkness, or what we try to conceal within it."

"...he had saved her, cared for her, supported her and fed her cake- and really, what girl doesn't want to be fed cake?"

"Our gifts don't define us- our actions do."

"The unfamiliar only feels strange until it becomes known. Love- true love- is much the same. We must never grow complacent about it, but we can allow it to feel like a gift rather than fear the unknown."

This is a 4 star for YA genre. A very cute YA fantasy romance. A fun world is built in this book. It was very simple to follow the world building and it didn’t take away from the plot. There is magic, plenty of romance, and a fast paced plot. The characters are sweet and you get many perspectives. I didn’t have any issues keeping track of whose perspective I was reading.
Only kisses. No foul language. There are non graphic deaths.
I think young teens will really enjoy this story as well as anyone who enjoys fantasy, romance, and YA genre.
