Lisa Phillips is a USA Today and top ten Publishers Weekly bestselling author of over 80 books that span Harlequin’s Love Inspired Suspense line, independently published series romantic suspense, and thriller novels. She’s discovered a penchant for high-stakes stories of mayhem and disaster where you can find made-for-each-other love that always ends in happily ever after.
Lisa is a British ex-pat who grew up an hour outside of London and attended Calvary Chapel Bible College, where she met her husband. He’s from California, but nobody’s perfect. It wasn’t until her Bible College graduation that she figured out she was a writer (someone told her). Lisa is a worship leader, tea aficionado, and dog lover of two crazy Airedales.
This book started off intense. Throwing us back in time to Saxon’s time in the military and an op in Syria - where he meets Kira when she patches him up after he’s shot… and then BAM! she “borrows” sensitive intel to copy and send off to her government.
I really enjoyed this no spice Christian romantic suspense novel. It was a great installment in this series set in Colorado. I loved the protective, veteran MMC and the doctor FMC who is struggling to trust. There was plenty of faith woven in with danger - WITSEC, medical procedures, the cartel, and more. This book added a lot to the web of the overarching series mystery while also satisfyingly getting these two through trials and danger and on to their HEA. I’m excited for more of this series! The romance is just kisses, intimacy level 1.
I received an eARC of this book from the publisher and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Another great installment in the Heroes of Renegade series! I couldn't put it down. Each book in the series can be read as standalones, but it's intriguing to have the storyline about a shadow government continue, and to see the characters from Renegade (Book 1) make appearances in Warrior.
I love the brotherhood of the former Delta Force guys. We get a bit more of the background of what happened in Syria with Luca and his team. "Luca watched Hammer's lips form the words 'not today'. Luca could barely breathe, but he coughed out the words, repeating them back to his team leader. "Not today."
Luca Saxon, is the perfect hero, he's protective, funny, and knows what he wants. Luca was Delta Force with the military, his team was betrayed by one of their teammates and reported killed in action. To stay off the grid until the case was figured out, he and the rest of the team became firefighters with the hotshots in Alaska. Now Luca's settled into Renegade, Colorado as a Private Investigator. "Making the world a safer place for people to raise their families was the reason he did everything he did."
He "thought the mysterious doctor who patched him up in Syria was just a beautiful memory. Now she's standing in front of him, and the chemistry that burned between them in that refugee camp hasn't dimmed".
"The last person Dr. Kira Yassan expects to walk back into her life is the soldier whose life she saved in a war zone three years ago." Kira has put her doctoring in a war zone and her assisting in some covert operations behind her. She's now the head of the ER in a hospital in Renegade. She cherishes her quiet time outside of work, but her life is just that, work and quiet, not much else. Until she's drawn into assisting a doctor who is treating a mob boss in US Marshall custody and meets Luca again. Then life isn't so quiet anymore.
Besides the captivating storyline, the page-turning mystery, and the romance with sweet banter and chemistry, this is a beautiful story about courage, and trusting God in all situations, especially the ones we have no control over.
I highly recommend Warrior by Lisa Phillips, and the whole Heroes of Renegade series! Thank you to Sunrise Publishing for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own.
For those of us who are risk-averse and shy away from entering the arena and availing ourselves of the warrior attitude, Lisa Phillips’ heroes of Renegade, Colorado, give us (1) a glimpse into the potential we all have to be heroes and heroines of our own story, and (2) the encouragement to take action with tenacity and commit to something.
Luca Saxon exemplifies the warrior mindset. I love how he confronts his fears and doubts, takes action with intention and commitment, and balances this with compassion and vulnerability. In my mind, he’s a perfect hero and warrior.
I enjoyed being reminded that love is a powerful force, that we need “to trust that He’s got this”, to “live with boldness” and “find ways to allow God to change [us] and grow [us]”. The most vivid ah-ha moment was when the brothers were discussing sin and one reminded the other that “we aren’t better than any other sinner. We’re all the same at the foot of the cross, no matter what we’ve done.”
Renegade, Colorado, is richer with people like Luca Saxon and Kira Yassan. I can’t wait to get back to this small town and receive encouragement from the next romantic suspense installment.
Get ready for pulse-pounding suspense, a fresh examination of courage, and the reminder that we are all capable of brave acts.
I was gifted this copy and was under no obligation to provide a review.
Ooh, Warrior is the super mysterious second story in the Renegade series, and it's awesome! I love how Phillips dribbles out the details and keeps us guessing - not just about the plot, but also about the characters and their backstories, too.
That means there's a lot to figure out throughout the entire story. What is real? What is only a cover story? What is mere accusation? This blend of stories, motivations, and plotlines is really well done. The complex blend of backgrounds, cultures, and fears mesh to make a deep story.
I don't think we've heard the end of this plot line, though. A few things aren't quite wrapped up by the time I turned the last page, and so I hope that this continues into the next book.
And that's not all! Amir is super mysterious. Is he what he seems, or is there maybe something happening beneath the surface? I hope he gets his own book eventually!
So multiple plot lines, deep backstories, and sizzling romance? Bring it on!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
This is a clean, Christian story with kissing only. Great characters — noble, strong, dedicated and spiritual. The story begins in a powerful way and my attention was riveted. Luca and Kira first meet under dangerous and stressful circumstances but still think of each other years later. When their paths cross once more, sparks fly — in more ways than one. In this action-packed romantic suspense, there are plenty of bad guys to fight and a lot of chances to rescue the girl he loves.
The book was good with just a few believability issues. I wanted more details about what Kira had experienced in the beginning of the story, but an overall compelling story. I’m enjoying the Renegade series and will read the next one.
I received a digital advanced copy of this book. A positive review was not required. My opinion is 3.5 stars.
Warrior, second installment of Heroes of Renegade created by Lisa Phillips & Susan May Warren at Sunrise Publishing is a fast paced suspense romance that has lots of danger but equally faith. Based out of Renegade, Colorado. I really enjoyed Luca and Kira’s fast chemistry, although idk if that’s totally how it works in real life it was still fun to read. This book has some really great characters along with adding some previous characters in book one. In the beginning I liked how Lisa plotted out about the past with the Delta Force group that Luca and his squad was apart of. Also, the story of cartel and The Syndicate (which I think I’ve heard of from her previous books maybe?), and the scary prison breaks 😳. Over all a really good story in this new Heroes of Renegade series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Lisa Phillips never disappoints. Warrior, the second installment in the Heroes of Renegade series, has romance, action, faith, and danger. I enjoyed the chemistry between Luca and Kira. Phillips crafted another hard-to-put-down romantic suspense read with great characters and an exciting plot featuring a cartel, witness protection, a syndicate, and prison breaks. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Fast-paced suspense will keep you guessing until the end. Wonderful characters and sinister criminals race against time and each other. Worth the read. This book was provided by Sunrise Publishing for me to read. The opinions expressed here are my own thoughts.
I loved it! Once again falling in love with Renegade and the people who live in it. Kira and Luca’s story of redemption and recovering from past trauma all why saving people. The story is engaging and I was “mad” when it was done because I have to wait for the next one.
What a ride! I loved the twists and turns that Phillips led you to believe one thing and then bam! something else happened. It was storytelling at its best.
Warrior is book two in the Heroes of Renegade series, which is a multi-author series. Warrior is written by Lisa Phillips, who is one of my favorite Christian Romantic Suspense authors; she is an instant read for me.
Luca has settled down in Renegade, Colorado, and started doing private investigative work. That is when he runs into none other than Dr. Kira Yassan, a doctor who fixed him up when he was on the front lines. Never in Luca’s wildest dreams would he have thought he would run into her state side, let alone find himself working alongside Dr. Kira, when the US Marshal asks for help with a special case, a former cartel kingpin.
This story kept me on the edge of my seat in this veteran medical suspense story. Warrior is a great addition to this new series that intertwines with favorite series like Chasing Fire and Last Chance County.
This romance was perfect and sweet.
Lisa Phillips did a great job of intertwining faith elements throughout.
