Book 2 in the Heroes of Renegade series, written by Lisa Phillips! Created by USA Today bestselling authors Susan May Warren and Lisa Phillips. Complete story with HEA, but the danger continues!
Start the series with RENEGADE (Book 1) and discover why readers are obsessed with Warren and Phillips' most explosive series yet!
Lisa Phillips is a USA Today and top ten Publishers Weekly bestselling author of over 80 books that span Harlequin’s Love Inspired Suspense line, independently published series romantic suspense, and thriller novels. She’s discovered a penchant for high-stakes stories of mayhem and disaster where you can find made-for-each-other love that always ends in happily ever after.
Lisa is a British ex-pat who grew up an hour outside of London and attended Calvary Chapel Bible College, where she met her husband. He’s from California, but nobody’s perfect. It wasn’t until her Bible College graduation that she figured out she was a writer (someone told her). Lisa is a worship leader, tea aficionado, and dog lover of two crazy Airedales.
This book started off intense. Throwing us back in time to Saxon’s time in the military and an op in Syria - where he meets Kira when she patches him up after he’s shot… and then BAM! she “borrows” sensitive intel to copy and send off to her government.
I really enjoyed this no spice Christian romantic suspense novel. It was a great installment in this series set in Colorado. I loved the protective, veteran MMC and the doctor FMC who is struggling to trust. There was plenty of faith woven in with danger - WITSEC, medical procedures, the cartel, and more. This book added a lot to the web of the overarching series mystery while also satisfyingly getting these two through trials and danger and on to their HEA. I’m excited for more of this series! The romance is just kisses, intimacy level 1.
I received an eARC of this book from the publisher and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I was sooo happy to find out that book 2 was going to have Luca as the MMC! I really liked him in Rowan's book and I was excited to see him fall in love!
I absolutely loved his backstory with Kira! The fact that she met him so many years ago, worried about him when he "died" and felt the same connection he did when they reunited? Perfect!
I wish they had flushed out a little more what she had been doing when she lifted the flash drive off of him, but at the same time it was so neat how they both moved passed the unknowns to trust each other. As two operatives, they are conditioned to suspect everything. But choosing to embrace each other despite not knowing everything about each other was a very brave decision to make.
I am really enjoying this series and I cannot wait for the next one of the series!
Renegade is a dangerous place to live without a warrior by your side!
Luka Saxon served his country well. His last mission went sideways, through no fault on his part. But when the beautiful doctor took something out and then tried to return it without his knowledge…
Challenge accepted.
Flash forward five years and the same two run into each other in the most unlikely of places. Dr. Kira Yassan left her old life behind to start over as a stateside healer. Seeing Luca again…
Welcome to a cat and mouse adventure where the stakes are high and the danger is real. It’s a breathless race to get to the bottom of what’s corrupting their little town.
And I enjoyed every moment of it!
I received an advance copy from the publisher. I’m under no obligation and my review has not been solicited. Highly recommend.
Warrior, second installment of Heroes of Renegade created by Lisa Phillips & Susan May Warren at Sunrise Publishing is a fast paced suspense romance that has lots of danger but equally faith. Based out of Renegade, Colorado. I really enjoyed Luca and Kira’s fast chemistry, although idk if that’s totally how it works in real life it was still fun to read. This book has some really great characters along with adding some previous characters in book one. In the beginning I liked how Lisa plotted out about the past with the Delta Force group that Luca and his squad was apart of. Also, the story of cartel and The Syndicate (which I think I’ve heard of from her previous books maybe?), and the scary prison breaks 😳. Over all a really good story in this new Heroes of Renegade series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Another great installment in the Heroes of Renegade series! I couldn't put it down. Each book in the series can be read as standalones, but it's intriguing to have the storyline about a shadow government continue, and to see the characters from Renegade (Book 1) make appearances in Warrior.
I love the brotherhood of the former Delta Force guys. We get a bit more of the background of what happened in Syria with Luca and his team. "Luca watched Hammer's lips form the words 'not today'. Luca could barely breathe, but he coughed out the words, repeating them back to his team leader. "Not today."
Luca Saxon, is the perfect hero, he's protective, funny, and knows what he wants. Luca was Delta Force with the military, his team was betrayed by one of their teammates and reported killed in action. To stay off the grid until the case was figured out, he and the rest of the team became firefighters with the hotshots in Alaska. Now Luca's settled into Renegade, Colorado as a Private Investigator. "Making the world a safer place for people to raise their families was the reason he did everything he did."
He "thought the mysterious doctor who patched him up in Syria was just a beautiful memory. Now she's standing in front of him, and the chemistry that burned between them in that refugee camp hasn't dimmed".
"The last person Dr. Kira Yassan expects to walk back into her life is the soldier whose life she saved in a war zone three years ago." Kira has put her doctoring in a war zone and her assisting in some covert operations behind her. She's now the head of the ER in a hospital in Renegade. She cherishes her quiet time outside of work, but her life is just that, work and quiet, not much else. Until she's drawn into assisting a doctor who is treating a mob boss in US Marshall custody and meets Luca again. Then life isn't so quiet anymore.
Besides the captivating storyline, the page-turning mystery, and the romance with sweet banter and chemistry, this is a beautiful story about courage, and trusting God in all situations, especially the ones we have no control over.
I highly recommend Warrior by Lisa Phillips, and the whole Heroes of Renegade series! Thank you to Sunrise Publishing for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own.
3.5 ⭐️ I enjoyed this second trip to Renegade and l especially loved Luca and Kira as characters. First meeting in a war-torn field hospital years before, Luca is shocked to find Kira in his new backyard. That instant connection they had? Yeah, that's still there. Now they have to figure out if they trust each other enough to work together to find out what’s really going on under the surface in Renegade.
This one kind of took me to some highs and lows- the plot was sometimes jumpy with some holes. The beginning was amazing. I loved their first encounter and it drew me right in. But I’m still trying to figure out how Luca just stopped being suspicious of Kira. And how they kind of just slipped into being a couple without talking it over. It’s so hard to put my finger on exactly what wasn’t hitting for me in this one. Was it some of the weird transitions? Was it that I felt like some important details were just skipped or passed over? Or that I didn’t get some of the dialogue I wanted or felt was needed? Did some of the conversations feel a little off somehow? Some combination, I’m sure.
Shrugging it off because I absolutely loved book 1 and I totally can’t wait to start book 3. Overall, Luca and Kira won the day and saved the story simply because of who they are. I loved getting to know them and pursue truth with them. I also loved that this book wasn’t afraid to dig into their faith and their struggles. The suspense at the climax was top-tier.
I received a complementary copy of this book from Sunrise Publishing. I was not asked to leave a positive review. My opinions are my own.
Warrior took us back to the time where it all went wrong for the team. Up to now readers were told what happened, but this was the first time we were there with them. This is also where we meet Kira and where we see there is more than meets the eye.
Two years later they meet again under different circumstances and in a different setting. But the connection they had back then is still evident now.
Saxon is still searching for his own new identity and path in his search for the identity of the person behind the Shadow Syndicate, which we first heard of in book one. The author gives plenty of information to catch readers up if you have not read the first book, but if you read it in order, you will have a better understanding of the back story.
This story had a lot of intrigue and action, with a very climatic suspenseful scene in the prison. There was a lot happening over a short time, some conclusions but also still some unanswered questions. I enjoyed Hammer’s banter where he shares his wisdom with Saxon.
Saxon and Kira grow closer in their search for answers, learn more about themselves on this new journey and learn to be strong, yet vulnerable and how to trust again.
There are some characters we met and I am still not 100% convinced that we can trust them. I guess my answers will be answered as the series unfolds.
Looking forward to book three!

You never know what is going to happen in this fabulous Heroes of Renegade series. But you can count on one thing and that is the action will be hot and the heroes will be heroic.
Luca Saxon is an American hero who has no problem running into the fire, literally, to save lives. He is one of those people I admire. He is trying to find where he belongs in his new home in Renegade.
Dr. Kira Yassan saves people in a different way than Luca, but she is a hero as well. She is a mystery that is slowly unwrapped as the story progresses.
The mystery behind the Shadow Syndicate is still a hot topic for law enforcement in Renegade. It seems when they get one puzzle piece in place, another one falls out. I am anxious to see who is responsible for all of the death and mayhem.
The suspense, intrigue and mystery, as well as the dangerous environment make this book easy to read and get lost in the story. The faith message is expertly woven into the story as the characters' strong faith shines on the pages.
Those final scenes were hair raising to say the least, as well as very unexpected. The hits just kept coming.
Trust is a big topic in this story and reminds me there is really only one thing that we can trust in this life and that is God is in control. Also, trust between individuals has to be earned, but you have to be willing to let your guard down to allow someone in.
Thank you to Sunrise Publishing for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
For those of us who are risk-averse and shy away from entering the arena and availing ourselves of the warrior attitude, Lisa Phillips’ heroes of Renegade, Colorado, give us (1) a glimpse into the potential we all have to be heroes and heroines of our own story, and (2) the encouragement to take action with tenacity and commit to something.
Luca Saxon exemplifies the warrior mindset. I love how he confronts his fears and doubts, takes action with intention and commitment, and balances this with compassion and vulnerability. In my mind, he’s a perfect hero and warrior.
I enjoyed being reminded that love is a powerful force, that we need “to trust that He’s got this”, to “live with boldness” and “find ways to allow God to change [us] and grow [us]”. The most vivid ah-ha moment was when the brothers were discussing sin and one reminded the other that “we aren’t better than any other sinner. We’re all the same at the foot of the cross, no matter what we’ve done.”
Renegade, Colorado, is richer with people like Luca Saxon and Kira Yassan. I can’t wait to get back to this small town and receive encouragement from the next romantic suspense installment.
Get ready for pulse-pounding suspense, a fresh examination of courage, and the reminder that we are all capable of brave acts.
I was gifted this copy and was under no obligation to provide a review.
“Did the guy really have to be so good-looking? It was almost untair, considering she had objections to so many other things about him.”
We are stepping back into Heroes of Renegade series. Warrior follows Luca Saxon and Kira Yassan as we get one step closer to figuring out who the Shadow Syndicate and what they’re planning.
Luca Saxon came to Renegade to set down roots. First step in doing that was to become a private investigator. On one of his first cases he runs into Dr. Kira Yassan, someone he met briefly on one of his military missions. Immediately the banter between them starts and has you smiling whenever they interact.
Kira Yassan came to Renegade to start over. Working as doctor in the ER gives her a chance to make up for some of her past mistakes. Her normalcy goes out the window when the US Marshals come to her and asked her to help with a surgery on one of their witnesses. Bringing back Luca into her life, the man that got away.
Warrior has a lot of good things going for it. I love the banter between Luca and Kira. I loved reading about them getting a chance to fall in love and learn to work with someone. We also got a lot of mystery and action going on as they work to figure out truths from lies with the Shadow Syndicate. We also get a few appearances from some people from the Chasing Alaska series.
Warrior by Lisa Phillips is a story taking place in Renegade, Colorado with the heroine, Kira, and the hero, Luca, trying to find a drug cartel that is rumored to be in their quiet town. Phillips does a wonderful job at crafting a heroine and hero who have met in the past, and they have to learn to trust each other to work together to solve this case. As for the setting, it was mainly at a hospital and a country club, so Phillips does a wonderful job at using descriptive words to allow the readers to see this world and to envision the characters moving through the environment. As for the plot, at times, I found it kind of boring. Many times, the characters were not moving forward in the hunt for the drug cartel. Readers will see them questioning their feelings for each other and what does this means. However, when the climactic moment does happen, sparks flew, then it was over in a flash. Not too long to solve the mystery. Overall, Warrior by Lisa Phillips has wonderful characters, setting, but I wanted a little more tension to the plot, so I could invest fully into the urgency of the situation.
I received a complimentary copy of Warrior by Lisa Phillips from Sunrise Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
Ooh, Warrior is the super mysterious second story in the Renegade series, and it's awesome! I love how Phillips dribbles out the details and keeps us guessing - not just about the plot, but also about the characters and their backstories, too.
That means there's a lot to figure out throughout the entire story. What is real? What is only a cover story? What is mere accusation? This blend of stories, motivations, and plotlines is really well done. The complex blend of backgrounds, cultures, and fears mesh to make a deep story.
I don't think we've heard the end of this plot line, though. A few things aren't quite wrapped up by the time I turned the last page, and so I hope that this continues into the next book.
And that's not all! Amir is super mysterious. Is he what he seems, or is there maybe something happening beneath the surface? I hope he gets his own book eventually!
So multiple plot lines, deep backstories, and sizzling romance? Bring it on!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Warrior (Heroes of Renegade Book 2) begins with action that continues all of the way through to the end.
Lisa Phillips brings Luca and Kira’s story to life beginning with their intense first meeting in a medical tent in Syria to their reunion in Renegade five years later. While Kira is tasked with attending a patient who is in protective custody of the US Marshalls, Luca is in charge of the man’s security. In addition, they are trying to expose a shadow syndicate threatening to destroy Renegade. While, in the beginning they are forced to work together, as the book progresses they develop feelings for each other.
This book has a great balance of action, suspense, romance, and faith. My favorite part of this book was the faith element that Lisa Phillips weaves throughout the story. The faith conversations blend into l seamlessly into the story without feeling forced.
I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to book 3.
I received an arc of this book from the publisher. My opinions are my own.
He was the soldier she saved… Now he’s the one risking everything to protect her.
This story starts intense and never lets up. From a war-torn past in Syria to present-day chaos in Renegade, Colorado, this book throws you straight into danger—and keeps you there.
Kira is a heroine I instantly respected. Strong, capable, and deeply scarred from everything she’s endured, she’s built walls for a reason. Watching her navigate fear, trust, and her faith again while being thrust into a deadly witness protection case? So compelling.
And Luca Saxon?? Protective, relentless, and full-on warrior energy. He’s the kind of hero who runs toward danger, not away from it—and yet still carries compassion and vulnerability beneath it all. I loved how steady he was for Kira, even when everything around them was falling apart.
✨ What I loved: 💥 Nonstop action (shootouts, prison riots, cartel threats 😳) ❤️ Reunion romance with lingering chemistry 🙏 Strong faith themes woven through the chaos 🩺 Medical suspense elements that added depth 🏡 Small-town setting with BIG, dangerous secrets
This book balances adrenaline and heart so well. The suspense kept me flipping pages, but it was the themes of trust, healing, and redemption that really stuck with me.
And one of my favorite reminders: We’re all the same at the foot of the cross.
If you love Christian romantic suspense with high stakes, strong characters, and a faith thread that actually matters—this is one you need to pick up.

This was such a captivating, fun read! I loved the characters, and especially the fact that they were in the first book (Renegade), and now they get their own story.
Luca and Kira were such a fun romance to watch happen, and then, of course, there's all the action and excitement to add on to it - only what comes along after people that lived in such high-level-intensity careers involved in military and secret ops.
This story is action packed and exciting, and will keep you hooked, and guessing, from the first page to the very end!
I recommend it to anyone who loves a good suspense novel, and especially Susan May Warren style (which this closely mirrors)

A chance meeting in Syria leads to Dr. Kira Yassan saving the life of Luca Saxon, but what is the likelihood that they will both land up settled in Renegade, CO? There is plenty of friction when they meet again, but is it even possible they will learn to trust each other?
The ongoing search into who heads the Shadow Syndicate overshadows all the cases Luca, PI is working on. The small town of Renegade is being overrun and someone or something is behind it. Will they figure it out before it is too late? Thrown into a witness protection case, Luca and Kira must work together. Will those sparks work for or against them? Plenty of mystery, danger and murder finds both of them being reminded to leave the outcomes in God’s hands.

Warrior By Lisa Phillips Book 2 in the Heros of Renegade series Rating: 4.5/5
Wow! The ideas and stories that come out of the duo of Susan May Warren and Lisa Phillips are so awesome and exciting and I cannot get enough!
After reading the first book in this new series and being introduced to the MMC, I was excited to read Saxon’s story. The characters feel real and authentic and their stories require you to keep reading until the end. The relationships are genuine and full of relatable backstories that make you want to root for them even more. The plot and characters keep you guessing until you don’t know who to trust. LOL. I will definitely need to read the next books in this series.
Highly recommend this Christian Romantic Suspense thriller!
My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.
Action-packed right from the start, I could hardly put down this intense second installment of the Heroes of Renegade series. It starts off in Syria and then moves forward five years to the present day in Renegade, Colorado.
Saxon was an easy guy to like. He’s amiable, hardworking, and just an all-around good guy. It took a little longer for me to figure Kira out, but once I got to know her a little better and heard about her past, I ended up really liking her too.
I’m really looking forward to the next book! And highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys faith-filled romantic suspense. While this could technically be read as a standalone, I’d still recommend starting with Renegade first. There’s an overarching story thread that will run through the series. Plus, it’s fun to catch up with characters from the previous book!
I received a copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.
Warrior, by Lisa Phillips was 100% AMAZING!! It seemed like Luca and Kira set the pace of this romantic suspense and even leveled off the playing field after a chance reunion. Mystery, danger, unknown threats and a long list of suspects is becoming common knowledge in this town. Yet, fear, doubt, lies and unanswered questions meddle in with truth and honesty. Luca's warrior mentality stabilizes Dr. Kira's peacemaker attitude and medical caregiver persona. I loved how they worked well together, taking the time to ensure the truth mattered in their hometown -- where fact had to overcome fiction. I loved the action, suspense and "team" values within this book, as well as their trust and faith in God above. This is definitely a book I will read again someday. For that, and the fact I could not put it down after the first page -- I give Warrior 5 out of 5 stars!! I was excited to find it on Kindle Unlimited and thoroughly devoured this book in less than a day!!
Dr. Kira Yassan is working as a doctor in Syria when soldier Luca Saxon is injured and needs her help. Five years later, they meet again...this time in Renegade, Colorado. They are forced to work together on a witness protection case. But the shadow syndicate in Renegade wants the witness silenced, and Kira and Luca work together to figure out who wants him dead. The attraction between Luca and Kira grows as they try to untangle the mystery. Murder, a terrifying prison riot and hostage crisis, a missing prominent medical researcher, all combined with the growing romance will keep the reader on the edge of their seat. This twists and turns in this book kept me guessing and reading all the way to the incredible end. I highly recommend this book and this series, and cannot wait to read the next one! I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Finally, Luca Saxon got his story! Both Luca and Kira came from traumatic, difficult backgrounds, and it was intriguing to see how they tried to overcome their past circumstances in order to deal with their present dangers. The suspenseful, descriptive writing kept me turning the pages and the unexpected twists kept me on the edge of my seat. One of the most important messages from the narrative was this: Every danger, disappointment, and unforeseen foe pales in comparison to the power and sovereignty of God. I enjoyed seeing characters from previous books and series make an appearance as well. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series! I voluntarily read and reviewed this book for the publisher. A positive review was not required, and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.
I am so enjoying the Heroes of Renegade series. Containing suspense, romance, and a faith-filled message, these books are the perfect escape for my imagination.
Warrior takes place right after the previous book, Renegade, leaves off. Here, we have the story of Luca Saxon - someone I've been itching to learn more about since first reading about him in previous books by the same authors. He makes a wonderful hero, especially when coupled with Dr. Kira Yassan. I loved the interplay between these two characters, the intrigue, and the plot that made it difficult to set the book down. I am highly anticipating the third installment, and I know I will not be disappointed!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Warrior is Luca Saxon's story from Renegade. He has chosen to stay in Renegade as a private investigator and be close to his friend, Hammer and his family. We get Luca's backstory from when he was in the military at the beginning and how he first met Dr. Kira Yasson. In Renegade they are asked by the U.S. Marshall's to work on a case involving a major drug cartel leader who is in WITSEC protection but needs medical assistance. While working that case Luca is still trying to figure out who is involved in the Shadow Syndicate that almost killed Hammer and his family. This story has plenty of action, a strong faith element, romance, suspense, banter, humor, and wonderful characters. I'm looking forward to book 3.
It was good to return to Renegade and catch up with Hammer's friend Luca. I enjoyed getting to know his backstory and his character. His loyalty, thirst for justice, protective instinct, and tender heart made Luca a great hero. Kira was the perfect blend of strength and compassion, a core of steel wrapped with soft silk threads. The action was fast-paced and the suspense intense. Even at the end of this book, we have no conclusion on who the Shadow Syndicate that is terrorizing the city of Renegade may be. So onward to the next book and here's hoping that we'll be closer to the answer!
I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Sunrise Publishing and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.
Heroes of the Renegade has not disappointed! I love how this book shares the back story with Saxon, Hammer, and the team. While deployed overseas, Saxon meets a mysterious doctor. Fast forward to Colorado and Saxon again meets the mysterious Dr. Yassan. While the sparks between the two of them are still there, Luca and Kira have to overcome their distrust from what happened overseas and trust each other. The Shadow Syndicate is still operating and confusing the law enforcement of Renegade. Every time they think they have a piece figured out, there is another piece to add to the confusion.
Book two in the series! Loved both main characters and the way the novel starts.
In Renegade, both Kira and Luca are in Renegade, Colorado to start over after tumultuous times in the Middle East. Kira is a successful emergency room doctor and Luca is building a private investigator business. The troubles that started in book one bleed into this one. Luca is committed to bringing down a crime ring causing trouble in their small town.
Lots of action in the pages and can't wait to continue the series.
My gratitude to publisher Sunrise for a complimentary copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.
These books are so hard to put down. The author does an amazing job of delivering the perfect amount of suspense and romance along with incredibly portrayed characters.
It always takes me a minute in these series to reacquaint with previous characters but it comes pretty quickly.
Luca seems like the dreamy guy that you want to meet. He cares deeply for those around him but is also ready to mete out justice to those who need it. Kira was also a complex character with a heart for the patients that she served.
I was gifted an arc of the book. The opinions are my own.
Another marvelous book full of danger and suspense in the Heroes of Renegade series. Luca Saxton and Dr. Kira Yassan had met briefly during an overseas mission when he was wounded. He has since become a private investigator searching for the truth surrounding the mysterious Shadow Syndicate that seems to be presiding over Renegade. Meanwhile, Kira is now an E. R. Doctor at the local hospital working midnight shifts. They are drawn into danger as they work together to find answers to questions that arise during a medical procedure on a mystery patient.
Lisa Phillips never disappoints. Warrior, the second installment in the Heroes of Renegade series, has romance, action, faith, and danger. I enjoyed the chemistry between Luca and Kira. Phillips crafted another hard-to-put-down romantic suspense read with great characters and an exciting plot featuring a cartel, witness protection, a syndicate, and prison breaks. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
