Dead #11

Blood & Betrayal

Rate this book
The days of being afraid of the walking dead are long since past. While they still prove to be a menace when they are found in massive herds numbering in the hundreds of thousands if not the millions, it is now the living that can be the most terrifying. Humanity is clawing to regain its place, and some will do anything to ensure their own survival... even at the cost of others.

The world is a wide open place and lawlessness abounds. The fate of civilization hangs in a delicate balance. With nobody looking over your shoulder, would you choose good... or evil? The choices made by a few could mean the end of hundreds of lives and reduce the chances that man will outlast the zombie in a world without order.

Tucked away in the Pacific Northwest with my wife Denise, a Border Collie named Aoife, a guitar collection, and an increasing number of aquariums sporting a variety of fish (cichlids are my new favorites), I live for football season when I can cheer on the Oregon Ducks and be disappointed by my Seattle Seahawks once again. I am a fan of Cookie Monster, KISS, and Dr. Who (along with most things British).

As a person who always dreamed of writing as well as one completely enthralled by all things zombie, it is hard to believe that I never once considered writing in the genre. It is true. I wanted to be more “mainstream”. The first novel I actually wrote is titled Dakota (as Todd Brown). It is about a pair of DEA types tossed back in time to just prior to the start of the Civil War. They are in Charleston, South Carolina, and one of them is an African-American.

The zombie thing really started when I wrote a short for a college Creative Writing class. The teacher, Ms. Bose, pulled me up and told me I had an obvious love for the subject and a real talent for the style. I decided to give it a shot.

The first thing I cobbled together was Zomblog. I wrote it as a warm up for the project I had brewing in the back of my mind. It is a journal account of the apocalypse. The funny thing is that it was never intended to be published. A few things happened and it ended up being presented to me as a gift in book format by my wife for a Christmas present. There was something I will never forget about holding the copy of that book in my hand the first time.
Because it gained a readership, and those readers asked for more, I made it a trilogy (Zomblog, Zomblog II, and Zomblog: The Final Entry). It is also because of those fans that I have returned to the Zomblog universe and just released the sixth (and FINAL) book in the series on Halloween of 2013: Zomblog: Snoe's Journey. I freely admit that I will sellout my plans to write what the fans ask for.

I really want my DEAD series to be what I am known for, and in the last year, it has really taken off. However, I will say that with the release of the fourth book in the DEAD series (DEAD: Winter), the numbers started to pick up beyond my wildest dreams.

The DEAD series (DEAD: The Ugly Beginning, DEAD: Revelations, and DEAD: Fortunes & Failures, DEAD: Winter, DEAD: Siege & Survival, DEAD: Confrontation, DEAD: Reborn) is scheduled to be a 12 part epic series.

It is told in three rotating chapters. One is from the first person perspective of Steve Hobart, a man thrust into the role of leader for a group of survivors struggling to keep alive. One chapter follows a group of four self-professed zombie “geeks” who initially believe that the zombie apocalypse would be fun and soon discover that it is nothing like the movies. The third of the rotating chapters is called “Vignettes” and is a series of snapshots from all around the world. Some of the vignettes are single chapter episodes, others are continuing threads that carry on for several chapters. A few are merged into the Steve story or the Geek story line.

Last year,I began my horror/comedy series, "That Ghoul Ava" and have found it to be my new guilty pleasure.

What about Zombies?

In the Dead series, Man is the true Monster, with little law and order humankind is free to act out their perversions, there are still "the good guys" but can you guess who is friendly & who is not? This is book 11 and was the most intense of all the novels, you need to read the books in order, but is worth the ride, you can get the first 3 books in a compendium for 99¢ or enjoy the audio books, I own both versions: books & audio and have read each book twice and when the series is over will re-listen to the audible versions, if you like post apocalypse stories w/zombies this is one of the Best out there! Hope you enjoy.

Excellent read and great build until last book!!

Exploring the what if's and gray areas of decisions many of these people have to make has always been a strength of todds writing, and this is another great example. I kept asking myself, what would I do?
.
Also, finally, in book eleven, more humans get killed than zombie(seemingly).....so I guess civilization is almost back to normal!!

I really enjoy the dead series! I never read any apocalypse books till I read the walking dead books I really loved the tv show. So when I started to read the dead books I was hooked. And I recommend them to all my friends. I can honestly say I enjoyed this series more than the walking dead. And believe me I was surprised, so keep up the good work can't wait till October

Great book!! I can't believe there is only one more book to end the series!! Fast paced and you really see how evil people have become due to the zombie apocalypse!! Zombies are no longer the threat!!

Overall enjoyable, but the story lines aren't as creative at this point. A lot of fighting against other peoples and out-group derogation/sinister attribution that fuels it. Brown continues to paint humanity's future in shades of pessimistic grey.

I keep expecting each new book to be a let down but each just gets better and leaves me waiting for the next. One of the best series...

So far these last 3 books could be a stand alone trilogy. The book picked up the pace from book 10 and kept the action going until the end. As time goes it is more and more clear that people are the monsters of this series and we have less and less people even trying to be good.

And it's understandable. We live our lives in comfort, with food and medicine and we spend our time debating morals and what's good or bad. What right do we have in judging the people that had none of this? The people that lived before us and by our standards they did horrible things; the people that did anything they could to stay alive. I don't condone violence, but I am not a hypocrite to say that we aren't violent by nature. Let's accept the fact then. How we accept that cats can sometime scratch you and dogs can bite, why can't we accept that it's in our nature to be violent?

T W Brown's Dead: Blood and Betrayal is the eleventh book in a series about a zombie apocalypse and different perspectives. The action is still going... these survivors are still fighting... we've lost some we've found some new allies and foes... I am still addicted and cant wait to read more....

Narrator eally brought the characters' personalities out and the story came to life. Great job. Love it!

3/5 So now the series is less about the zombies, and more about the survival of mankind. Sure there's a few walkers thrown in here and there. Plus the threat of a herd just over the horizon, but noting like this first few books. Now it reads more like a bug out series than a zombie series.

3/9 More about the different faction trying to survive. A few zombies thrown in here and there. Gonna finish out the series simply because I got this far, but I miss the good ole zombie scenes.

If you like dark books then boy howdy is this series for you! I naturally gravitate to darker plots and this series had me guessing on the final ending. It was so well written, yes there are a lot of characters BUT they are so detailed and built up it’s not confusing or hard to follow.
