Akumi Agitogi is a Japanese writer and translator from Tokyo. She has published several works of fiction and non-fiction, including novels, short stories, essays, and translations of English literature into Japanese. Her works explore themes of identity, gender, and culture, and she has been praised for her lyrical and evocative writing style.
The relationship between Miyo and Kiyoka is slowly moving forward; it is hampered by both Miyo’s low self-esteem and the main conflict with Naoshi Usui who is her mother’s former admirer. Miyo’s hesitancy may be culturally conditioned or perhaps it is a result of her traumatized childhood in the Saimori family? The problem is that she is unable to express her feelings towards Kiyoka and that prevents them from moving forward in a significant way.
He, however, senses what is going on and so he never pushes her out of her comfort zone while quietly teasing her once in a while. It is his sister, Hazuki, and the Crown Prince, Takaihito, who finally lose their patience and set the two of them up by organizing a sleeping arrangement that forces them to share a bed. What ensues is a sweet conversation where Kiyoka voices his feelings for Miyo by saying, “Right now, I’m not satisfied with the current situation. I want to have even more. If possible, I’d wish I could become even more engrossed. Engrossed in you, no one else” (p. 131). It is a little sad that Miyo is unable to express the feelings that she clearly has for him.
Most of the volume is focused on fighting off the Gifted Communion led by Naoshi Usui. He is the clear antagonist with a romantic connection to Miyo’s mother and a power-hungry ambition that leads him to target Miyo. At the very end, Miyo realizes that Usui is planning to coerce her by taking down Kiyoka and this is achieved with a spectacular and unexpected betrayal at the very end. But perhaps this dire situation can coax Miyo into confessing her feelings to Kiyoka?
Talk about a vicious cliff-hanger of an ending! I can see why Arata defected to Usui's side, because in all honesty, the Usuba family has been so ill-used by the imperial family that it almost makes sense for him to be opposed. But part of that anger on both of their parts seems to be ire at not getting to marry Miyo, who is finally in a position to make her own choices - and they don't seem to want her to be, unless it involves choosing them. This is all important when it comes to Miyo standing on her own two feet and owning her life and her power, but in terms of reading? Volume six can't come soon enough.

rather predictable storyline if im being honest, arata's betrayal was foreshadowed in the previous volume so lost its shock factor but i love miyo and kiyoka and their interactions i added one star. i need miyo to save kiyoka and put usui in his place in the next volume please and thankyou, there is so much potential for her to be powerful af (not necessarily with her dream sight) and overcome her insecurities and don't waste anymore time confessing miyo you deserve all the happiness kiyoka can give you

I literally love how the author (in her note at the end) knows she has baited us with this title. xDD The story has still not reached, "my happy marriage." xDD The ending actually destroyed me. Thankfully, I could immediately read book 6!
This has been my least favorite of the series, but that’s because Miyo still wonders if Kiyoka actually likes her, despite him telling her just that. And she doesn’t want to acknowledge her own feelings ‘cause she’s been traumatized her whole life, thinking love would only make her lose herself (like her stepmother did with her father).
Also, this whole thing with Naoshi Usui and her mom was messy from the beginning. He was not a good person, not even as a young kid, and now that Sumi is gone, he wants to change the world into something “more fair” for people like her –yet the doesn’t mind the consequences of people not being able to grasp the meaning (and responsibility) of having supernatural powers.
It’s also a bit heavier on the politics and quite longer than the previous volumes, which took me a while to finish it. Anyway, I hope m the next volume can be better. I truly like Miyo and Kiyoka together, but they have to find each other again.
I think the best part was their conversation in the dark. That was very sweet.
The ladies night felt so modern day college. It didn't fit with how the series had been. Too nosy and bold for the time era. Drinking? And having a man in the same quarters at night?? But the rest of the story has been on how modest women are and like, hand holding is already big deal.
The whole idea of Grotesqueries and gift users being a secret did not make sense. With the media cover ups, it seem to suggest that the common people and most of the government does not know except for the very high up. But, wouldn't people think it is strange that a Anti-Grotesquerie Unit exists within the ranks?? And apparent, people know about Kiyoka - wouldn't the question what his rank is in the military if they didn't know the Unit exists.
From the last few books I've been wondering how genuine is the 'love' Kiyoka has for Miyo. Did he chose to marry her because he's in love with the person she is or because he had learned of her Usuba bloodline? Reflecting back I don't believe Kiyoka is in love with Miyo. He's interested in her because of her bloodline. I also believe that Hazuki who is so supportive of the pair is also interested in their marriage because of Miyo's special bloodline. Remembering how she hit Kiyoka for failing to keep her when Miyo went to the Usuba household.... yeah... I think the Kudou family is interested in her because of her bloodline. Fuyu too. She only showed acknowledgement after learning of Miyo's bloodline.
So yeah. The romance is not unselfish. It's rather based on building and maintaining a powerful influence on society.
Regardless, the plot is good. The romance is not for me because I don't like deluded fantasies of love which this writer is creating in this story.
To put it in simple words, I don't like the pairing now that I have seen how it lacks sincere love.
I know. In reality, not every marriage is formed because the couple are in love with each other.
I just wish the writer of this series stop trying to delude the readers into believing that the 'love' between Kiyoka and Miyo is pure. There's a selfish, power hungry desire in Kiyoka and the Kudou family. Miyo may or may not care. She did always wanted to be special, to be someone with a gift. But I don't like how the writer is forcing us readers to think that their love is pure and without selfish or greedy desire. However, the political/action plot is good.

⚠️.SPOILER ALERT.📢

I love this series so much. In this one, Miyo and Kiyoka are staying at the Emperor's estate surrounded by serious magical barriers since Usui threatened to take Miyo away with him for her Dream Sight abilities. But he did get away with the Emperor himself, whom he plans to kill to take over as the ruler of all of the Empire. It's also settled into winter, which is what was foretold in the visions that Prince Takaihito had been having. So the entire book, I'm turning page after page to find out what Usui has planned.
Kiyoka is so protective over Miyo. He knows she has her own abilities, but without much control over them, he knows that she has to be kept safe. It's so cute how devoted he is. There's one scene where they're staying together in the house and he's trying to be so gentlemanly. Their awkwardness and shyness with each other is also absolutely adorable.
Miyo has also really let herself SHINE in this book too. In one particular instance, Miyo shows major gumption when they're attacked by one of their enemies. Yes, her physical prowess is pretty much ZERO, she still fought back in a very scrappy way. It was awesome. Then at the end of the book, she says her major line of the book and is definitely going to be a little reckless to get to Kiyoka.
I never really have a lot of things to say when these books are so short, but I'll end it here for now because ... well ... I just love these books. I don't know what else I can say about them.
I wish I could give this 3.5 stars, as I believe this is what this book really deserves...but alas...
I enjoy the story of My Happy Marriage. It has certainly evolved since the very first book (which in my opinion, is still the best), and let's face it - I want to read the books because I'm watching the Netflix series, and I'm a purist. I heard S2 goes up to book six, so I refuse to watch the series until I'm done with the corresponding novels.
Without spoiling it too much - we are diving deeper into the Usui Arc, and things certainly come to a head in this book. Most of it is spent at the palace of Prince Takaihito, and that in itself has some interesting moments - there is one in particular that genuinely made me laugh and was truly enjoyable to read. (Hint: Girl's Night!)
The best moments, however, are still between Miyo and Kiyoka. Akumi Agitogi does a beautiful job describing their blossoming love, and it never ceases to amaze me that battle-hardened Kiyoka can become so soft with his beloved Miyo. I do feel, however, that this book was mostly plot development, and I wanted more of our favorite couple - the series is called My Happy Marriage, after all, not Usui Overthrows the Empire.
However, things do get interesting at the end of the novel. Let's just say I have Book 6 right next to me, waiting to go.
The author in the afterword was like: I know this title has nothing to do with the book for now, let's don't talk about it.😂 Prince Takahito is iconic being at ladies' soiree and being like: “Please feel free to talk as much as you would like. Do not pay me any mind. I shall make my heart into a woman’s and exclusively focus on listening along. If that still would not suffice, you may refer to me as ‘Takako,’” he stated, looking wholly unperturbed.
The cliffhanger was brutal. We have the first I love you and it is Kiyoka saying it and he can't even hug Miyo back because of handcuffs.
The biggest thing. This couple gives me the same vibe as Kyo and Tohru from fruits basket (their relationship changed me on a molecular level, I'm obsessed about them) and there were a few similarities between these two animes regarding the romance and in this book we have: "Kiyoka gave a big sigh and gently rapped Miyo’s head." EXCUSE ME Kyo always would knock on Tohru's head to show affection because he couldn't hug her but his main love language is physical touch, and he'd done it from the begging even when they weren’t together. Now Kiyoka does the same and i know that this is probably insignificant detail but this detail won't let me sleep tonight.

5/5❤️ 1/5🌶️ “If he did, it would suggest he truly did wish to be by Miyo’s side guarding her. Though that was, in fact, the truth. It’s frustrating to leave Miyo in someone else’s hands.” Ahh bro is so whipped😭❤️
“…Miyo, it’s a little difficult to change with you watching me,” Kiyoka tentatively said to her as she stood in blank amazement.” “I don’t really mind you watching me, though.” Screaming!!!!!!!!!!
“Right now, I’m not satisfied with the current situation. I want to have even more. If possible, I’d wish I could become even more engrossed. Engrossed in you, no one else.” Please universe let this love find me!! I beg you!!!🧎🏼♀️🧎🏼♀️
“Allow me to tell you something. So I won’t have any regrets.“ Then, in her ear, he left a single whisper. “I love you.” Brooo screaming, crying, throwing up!!😭❤️
No sé no sé 🤷🏽♀️
It was okay compared to the other books in the series. To me, it was rather flat at the beginning and got more interesting towards the end. In terms of character development, I felt like Miyo made growth in each of the prior books but I personally didn’t really feel that this time. As always, I love Kiyoka! Thank goodness he is super patient with our girl.
I just read this because I already bought the 6 volumes. Miyo is insufferable the entire freaking book! This is vol 5 and she still behaves the exact same way as in the first one!! They keep saying : she is stronger , she is braver but it’s the classic case of tell no show. She is weak and just useless even tho she is supposed to be “the strongest gif user” 😒
Anche questo nuovo capitolo romanzato della serie mi è piaciuto tantissimo; sto trovando la storia dolcissima e romanticissima ma naturalmente non manca quel pizzico avvincente che rende il romanzo fantastico.
This book felt more like a bridge, a prelude to the true climax of the conflict. I feel this is is the volume with the least romantic scenes of our couple
