Trauma Hit Hard… Romance Hit Soft

What a storm of emotion!🌀 This is the 2nd book in the House of the Mafia series, & it absolutely had the bones of an incredible dark romance — revenge, trauma, forbidden tension, & a kidnapping that becomes a strange, unexpected taste of freedom. I loved the setup & genuinely wanted this to be a hit BUT…some pieces didn’t come together the way I hoped.

FULL REVIEW, POSSIBLE SPOILERS, & HONEST THOUGHTS ⬇️
Beaten follows Alek Morozov & Katya Ivanov in a dark mafia, enemies-to-lovers scenario that should have been explosive — but for me, the emotional punch never fully landed 😟

💔 Katya’s Trauma = The Heart of the Book

After witnessing her father kill her mother, she developed crippling panic attacks, so her older brother Dimitri kept her tucked away in a secret room for 13 years. 13! 😳 He thinks he’s protecting her… but he unknowingly freezes her entire life, every dream & experience she should have had. Katya’s trauma is raw & intense — easily the strongest, most compelling part of the story. You feel every piece of what was stolen from her.

🖤 The Romance…Didn’t Hit the Way It Needed To 🤷‍♀️

When Alek kidnaps Katya for revenge against Dimitri (yep, this happens 😬) I expected the dark-romance trifecta:
• obsession
• dangerous chemistry
• possessive energy

But instead, much of the relationship felt one-sided — like Katya attached herself from fear, isolation, & dependency rather than true heat or real chemistry. Alek does push her out into the world & shows her what she’s been missing — which I loved — but the actual romantic spark? The desire? The dark, addictive pull a dark mafia romance usually thrives on? 🤔 Not as strong as I needed.

And Alek himself? He’s written as a dominant, controlling, morally grey captor (which we love)…but emotionally distant to the point of feeling cold instead of compelling & alluring. 😒 He was protective — there just needed to be more fire, more emotional tension, more heat.

😵 And that Wedding Scene…I Have No Words

Truly? He up & spanked her in front of the whole congregation! Uncomfortable. awkward. Omg, I was mortified for everyone involved. 🫣🥴

🤦‍♀️ Alek’s Surrogate Daughters?

Absolute chaos machines — not in the fun way 🙄 Their presence added tension, yes, but not the kind that enhanced the story. Every time they appeared, I caught myself grinding my teeth. 🤬 Definitely not my favorite element.

🎬 The Ending

Alek & Dimitri become so consumed by revenge that their stubbornness literally gets Katya shot while they’re trying to kill each other 😳 She chooses Alek…and then the story just stops. Abrupt, rushed, & emotionally undercooked.

👉🏻FINAL THOUGHTS:
Overall, this book had real potential — trauma, darkness, healing, forced proximity, revenge. The foundation was there, but the execution felt softer & less intense than expected. I’ve enjoyed many Ivy Davis books, but this one didn’t dig as deep as I hoped.

Katya’s journey, though? Powerful. Heart-wrenching. Unforgettable. Her healing, her fear, her rediscovery of the world — that part stuck with me. So, if you enjoy lighter mafia vibes, trauma recovery, a sheltered heroine stepping into the world, & a HEA (mostly), then this one might be for you. 3.25⭐️'s

FAV QUOTES/SCENES:
• The first thing I notice is… how beautiful she is. Long dark hair, fair skin, pretty features. She looks a lot like Dimitri, just the female version. And while I hate to admit it, Dimitri is handsome. I may not be into men but it’s obvious to anyone who sees him. Makes me hate the fucking bastard more. If he were ugly, I’d have a leg up on him. 🤭
• Katya is an enigma to say the least. The last thing I expected was for her to seem more comfortable inside a cage than out of it. Who is this woman exactly?
• Katya is mine now. Mine to do with as I please.
• "You sound pretty when you beg"
• “You’re my wife now, Katya. I made a vow when I married you. I will always choose you. You’re not going anywhere. You are mine.”

You might want to make sure to double check that you are buckled up, dangerous men, alpha’s personified, possessive, oh, gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a story consisting with three D’s (dark, delicious, and dirty) 😊. There will be suspense, betrayal, death, darkness, secrets reveled, violence, hope, forgiveness, and maybe even love along the way. Alek sexy as all get out bratva pakhan who starts out with no redeeming qualities he does grow on you but he isn’t a man you want on your radar, he is dangerous, ruthless on a good day, deadly every day, and usually takes what or in this case who he wants to beat his enemy at his own game by taking his sister but she isn’t what he expected. Katya is sweet, young women dealing with issues after being traumatized at eight it left her to a point where she closed herself in her bedroom for thirteen years too afraid to leave basically no contact with the outside world, afraid of everything, but she dreams of being free of her fears just not sure how to make it happen and when she is kidnapped forced into an environment where two mean well evil girls inflict so much on her and a man who intends on exposing her to the real world in hopes she will become her own person. The longer they are together the more she grows on him but by the time he realizes she means something to him and her brother realizes that he wasn’t a very good brother, both nearly losing the very person they cared about but will the war drive her away, will Alek see the two sisters for the evil acts they have been doing, will they get what they deserve, will Katya learn to stand up for herself, will she gain her freedom learning to be herself, and is there form of happiness somewhere along the way for them?

It’s an emotional trauma with a hint of soft romance in a sense.

This is the 2nd book in the House of the Mafia series, and it absolutely was an incredible dark romance - revenge, trauma, forbidden tension, a kidnapping that becomes a strange, unexpected taste of freedom.

Alek the mysterious bratva pakhan who starts out with no redeeming qualities he does grow on you but he isn't a man you want on your radar, he is dangerous, ruthless on a good day, deadly every day, and usually takes what or in this case who he wants to beat his enemy (Dimitri) at his own game by taking his sister but she isn't what he expected. The longer Alex and Katya are together the more she grows on him but by the time he realizes she means something to him and her brother realizes that he wasn't a very good brother, both nearly losing the very person they cared about.

Katya is sweet, young women dealing with issues after being traumatized at eight thanks to her father and it left her to a point where she closes herself in her bedroom for thirteen years too afraid to leave basically no contact with the outside world, afraid of everything, but she dreams of being free of her fears just not sure how to make it happen. And her brother Dimitri goes along with how she is living her life.He thinks he's protecting her... but he unknowingly freezes her entire life, every dream and experience she should have had. Now, Katya's trauma is raw, intense but easily the strongest, most compelling part of the story. You feel every piece of what was stolen from her. But when she is kidnapped and forced into an environment with a man who intends on exposing her to the real world in hopes she will become her own person. And he brings her around his surrogate daughters who are
pure chaos machines. Their presence added tension, yes, but not the kind that enhanced the story. Every time they appeared, I caught myself just wishing they would disappear or he would band them from coming around.

Katya's journey, was what stuck out the most to me. It was Powerful. Heart-wrenching. Unforgettable. Her healing, her fear, her rediscovery of the world - that part stuck with me. I was truly happy that she was finally living after being so sheltered.

An excellent story about a kidnapping that brings a young woman who was traumatized during her childhood and her brother’s rival together.
The rival has someone kidnap the young woman for her. From the moment the rival sees her the man has feelings for the woman even though he doesn’t know why at the time but figures it out later.
The rival had a business partner who was also his friend that passed away who had two daughters that he treats like his own daughters but the two girls throughout the story treat the young woman badly.
The rival forces the young woman to marry him to hurt the young woman’s brother and also that his feelings for her have gotten stronger. After things happen during their reception the couple go on their honeymoon but don’t stay long due to more things happening and the woman’s brother causing trouble back home.
The rival makes a tentative agreement with a man from the Italian mafia to help deal with the young woman’s brother.
The couple goes to a gala because the rival wants to push the young woman’s brother to get upset. When the young woman’s brother shows up with his wife and finds them there the two men start fighting and during this time the brother’s wife takes the young woman back to her brother’s home. The young woman tries to talk to the brother and he doesn’t listen. She leaves going back home only to have the two girls not let her in. The young woman goes back to the brother’s home where the rival finds her and takes her home. At their home the rival gets angry with the two girls about not letting his wife in their home.
The young woman comes to their home along with some of his men to take her but they also take the two girls as well. The woman tried to talk to her brother again but it’s no use. The rival shows up and guns are fired, the young woman falls. The woman was shot. The young woman is taken to a hospital where she recovers. The two men come to an agreement about their war between each other.
The young woman goes home with the rival. The couple love each other and are happy to be with one another.

While the main story was quite good the two surrogate daughters characters were utterly disgusting and how Alex continued to let them treat Katya without holding them accountable for their behaviour properly was frustrating. They were old enough to know better yet never disciplined by Alex or Maria and allowed to hurt katya repeatedly. Author should have evolved their characters within plot.
Alek is a mafia man who kidnaps Katya to get back at her brother but he doesn’t know she’s spent 13 yrs virtually secluded in a bedroom with no outside contact. She’s afraid of everything And panics easily making alek have to modify his plans. He ends up wanting her for his own and sets about exposing her to real life in an effort to free her and allow her to become the woman she dreams of being. But trauma after trauma forces alek to protect her.
Katya is a young virgin 21 who was horrifically traumatized at 8 and never received the therapy needed to process the trauma. Her brother has kept her child like not allowing her to grow up wrongly trying to help her. He’s allowed her to live in a child’s bedroom hiding from life for too long. Katya comes to have feelings for alek but can’t get the two men to stop the war between them until a tragedy happens. Alek has to finally realize that he’s come to love his captive but due to the actions of the two men both may lose her forever.
I also found the ending was lacking and could have been written better, too short bit to abrupt and the 1 daughter was still acting horribly having learned nothing. She needed a darn good spanking instead of Katya. Needed bit more evolution to wrap up ending.

I’m done reading Ivy Davis. The quality of her work has spiraled downward such that I don’t have any hope that she will recover the vibe of the BOUND TO THE MAFIA series and the SINS OF THE BRATVA series, both of which remain excellent and I love them, no matter what garbage she’s putting out today.
Back to BEATEN… If she’s trying to make the MMC an unlikable b@st@rd, Davis is a resounding success. Her hero in this book, Alek, is all about posturing and pandering to his own ego. He acts like a big, bad, Bratva Pakhan, yet when it comes down to it, he runs around like a chicken with its head removed, power who knows where. He has also helped to spoil his late BFF’s two daughters, ̶A̶n̶a̶s̶t̶a̶s̶i̶a̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶D̶r̶u̶s̶i̶l̶l̶a̶ Nina and Susanna, who are evil mean girls. Susanna is alarming, as she tries to unalive or at least hurt Katya.
Katya is slightly more likable than Alek. Which is a low bar. She’s not a diva or a rhymes-with-witch. HOWEVER, she does slap a teenager (who got off lightly, because Katya was loaded for bear. But still, hitting a kid is completely inappropriate and I’m very surprised by Davis for including it). That was, however, the most interesting thing she did in the entire book.
Plot consists mostly of desperate attempts at power, flexing egos, and violent temper tantrums.
With characters becoming caricatures, big bad mob men who are all hat and no cattle, and plots that are wash, rinse, and repeat, Davis’s book is vapid and boring.

⚠️ Content Warning: This is a dark romance featuring sensitive material, including kidnapping, violence, and intense emotional conflict/distress (severe childhood trauma, panic attacks, and anxiety).
Beaten, book two in the House of The Mafia series, is a compelling and dark arranged marriage romance centered on Katya Ivanov and her brother Dimitri’s powerful nemesis, Alek. The story begins with Alek kidnapping Katya, a bold move designed to inflict maximum pain on Dimitri. Unbeknownst to Alek, Katya has spent 13 years virtually secluded, suffering from profound, unresolved trauma and crippling anxiety due to witnessing her mother's murder as a child.
Katya's extreme vulnerability immediately forces Alek to treat her not as a pawn, but as a woman in need of protection, inadvertently setting her on a path toward healing and self-discovery. The plot expertly navigates the explosive conflict between Alek and Dimitri—a war in which neither man considers Katya's true desires—while simultaneously focusing on the intense, unexpected emotional connection developing between captor and captive.
This is a visceral, high-stakes read that successfully handles the difficult transition of its protagonist from a terrified victim to a woman capable of love and fighting for her future. The intensity and complexity of the main relationship make Beaten a must-read for fans of emotional mafia stories.

4⭐️ Read
First I want to thank the author Ivy Davis and Booksprout for giving me an eARC of this book. 📖
I enjoyed reading it.
I felt sad and sorry for what happened to Katya when she was younger and it made her want to hide and stay in her safe space then to be a normal person enjoying life and finding love. 💕
I loved her brother Dimitri and how he took care of her and protect her too. And I also liked Dimitri’s wife Sofiya in this book and how she also was there for Katya. At first I hated Alek and how he kidnapped Katya and wanted to use her to get back at Dimitri and also how he treated her and also wanted to force her into marriage, but then getting more into the book I started loving him. Loved how Alek wanted to take care of his friend’s family but I hated the daughters Nina and Susanna and how they treated Katya throughout this book but I was happy when Alek protected and also stood up for Katya in this book against them. And I also loved how Katya stood up to them too. Loved the romance between Katya and Alek and also loved how he protected her too. I also felt sorry for Katya and everything that was happening to her when she older too. I hated the bad guys in this book and what they did to Katya but loved how Alek protected her from them. I loved how Dimitri did everything to get his sister back. And I loved when Katya and Alek fell in love with each other. And I was happy when Dimitri and Alek decided to make peace with each other for Katya. And was happy when Nina and Susanna apologized for all that they did to her. And I was so happy that Katya and Alek got a happy ending together and I recommend this book 📕. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

They say that revenge is best served cold, and that's exactly how Alek will be when he kidnaps the elusive Katya to drive Dimitri, her brother, insane for all the times he tried to kill him. But what he doesn't count on is how beautiful Katya is and how she interacts with the outside world.

Katya has existed in her comfortable bubble since the horrific incident in her childhood. Dimitri has kept her safe and hidden, which is what she wanted and needed. But Alek doesn't afford her the same courtesy; he doesn't know the terror she feels.

Alek soon realises that Dimitri may have enabled his sister's condition. He also admits he feels protective of the woman he has kidnapped, but he will not allow her to wallow; he will make her face her demons, and some of them are!

Katya knows that she must face these challenges if she wants to be the woman she wants to be. Alek accepts that he has feelings for Katya, and he can't allow anyone else to hurt what is his. It may have started as the sweetest revenge, but Katya brings out a side of him that he never knew he wanted or needed.

This is the 2nd story in the House of the Mafia Series where Alex is out for revenge and decides to kidnap Dimitri’s hidden sister, Katya. When it’s discovered Katya does exist Alex makes his move and doesn’t understand her behavior of wanting to be in a cage. Katya’s past has caused her trauma at a young age and has lived in a hidden room for safety. Alex is tough on Katya and pushes her boundaries then forces her to feel comfortable outside a confined space then forces her into marriage and much more. Katya starts to become a woman and experiences what it’s like to kiss and much more with a man who desires her. The struggle between Alex and Dimitri becomes explosive and Katya learns to stand up for herself and what she wants over Dimitri’s need to keep her safe and Alex ends up with more than revenge! There are some interactions between Alex and Katya I was not a fan of. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Beaten (House of the Mafia #2) is a raw, gripping arranged-marriage mafia romance.
Ruthless Alek kidnaps Katya Ivanov to destroy her brother Dimitri, his sworn enemy. What he doesn’t expect: Katya has lived locked away for 13 years, shattered by childhood trauma after watching her mother die. She’s terrified, fragile, and nothing like the weapon he planned to use.
One look at her broken state flips everything. Alek becomes her reluctant protector instead of her tormentor. As war explodes between him and Dimitri—two men who never bother asking what Katya actually wants—something fierce and unexpected grows between captor and captive.
Dark, emotional, and intense, Beaten takes a traumatized heroine from terrified victim to a woman strong enough to claim her own future—and the man who started as her monster. Perfect for readers who crave high-stakes mafia romance with real heart.

Katya had been protected by her brother Dimitri all her life after she witnessed their father end their mother she didnt want to be around anyone or anything so he kept her hidden, despite the rumors of her captivity. Now her brothers enemy Alek has taken her captive and forced her into marriage to spite him, Alek never wanted a wife but when presented with the opportunity for revenge against Dimitri he takes it, not expecting to feel anything for his new wife, she certainly doesnt want him but he begins to crave her like no other, will he bring down her isolated wall, will she give in to the enemy? Engaging story that held a lot of promise but again like the first book both the main characters feel more childlike and less developed although Katya is meant to be more childlike due to her sheltered life it just didn't mesh as well compared to other series by the author.

I kept thinking I had the wrong author. This is Alek and Katya's story. Just skip it and read the author's "Bound by Hate"

If you're going to have a character traumatized as Katya was, please do the research on what's helpful. The actions by Alex and others were extremely harmful. Alex treated her horribly. He forced her into areas that set her panic and trauma off. He knew his friend's daughters were horrible to her and he never did anything about it. Her brother never got her help. The only one who tried to help was the sister-in-law. I forced my way through this one and went from hoping he'd wake up and realize he was horrible and change to wishing someone who brutally destroy him and get Katya the help she needs. I hate giving anything less than a three, but this was extremely bad. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is the second book of the series. I didn’t really like the first book. There were no redeemable characters in that one. This book is better. However, the FMC, Katya is another weak FMC. She was traumatized as a child; she was hidden away for years by her brother. She gets kidnaped because of her brother being in the mafia. He ends up marrying her but unlike the first in the series, he doesn’t try to break her down more, he helps her heal from her past. The two men come face to face and Katya jumps in the middle and gets shot. She loves both her husband and brother and wants them both in her life. A truce is struck and she they get a HEA. It’s dark, intense, emotional, and overall an interesting read.

Book 2 and Alek and Dimitri are still trying to kill each other and will try anything that would result in the hurting.
Katya watched her father murder her mother when she was only a child witch resulted in panic attacks.
Her brother Dimitri was protecting her by isolating her from everything that would terrify her, instead of getting her professional help.
Finding out Dimitri has a sister hidden away Alek not only kidnaps her but marries her, the perfect way to torment her brother.
Treating her horribly at first but treating her as a woman not a child results in feeling he never expected.
So the drama goes on Dimitri wants his sister back and Alek wants to keep his wife, nobody asks what Katya wants.

Beaten by Ivy Davis delivers a dark, intense mafia romance that’s both haunting and strangely addictive. Alek kidnaps Katya to hurt her brother—but instead, he unlocks a deeply traumatized young woman’s path toward love, healing, and empowerment. The premise is brutal, but the emotional journey and the stakes make you invest in their twisted, painful bond.
The story moves fast and the plot twists keep you turning pages, though I wish some relationships—especially with the surrogate daughters—had more growth and accountability. Despite that, Katya and Alek’s evolution from captor and captive to reluctant partners with a shot at redemption feels real and gritty. If you’re drawn to dark, emotional mafia romances with complex characters and high stakes, this one hits the mark.

Katya is a prisoner in her own mind and isolates herself in a hidden room in her Brother, Dimitri’s home. His wife Sofia encourages her to come out of her hidden bedroom. It takes an enemy of Dimitri's to get Katya out of her self claimed cage. Alek kidnaps Katya to get back at Dimitri and their ongoing feud but he comes to understand her real prison is made up in her mind. This quickly becomes their love story Bratva style. It has violence and treachery. The chemistry between Katya and Alek is hot and undeniable. Katya needed her story told. The author did an amazing job with her storyline. It had the perfect ending for Katya. I throughly enjoyed reading this book.

This one was fine, but definitely not a favorite. I felt for Katya the entire time. She is so naive and immature because she was locked away during the years she should have been learning how the world works, and no one in her life seems to care. The side characters walk all over her, and Alek just stands there letting it happen. No one protects her or puts her first, and it honestly took almost losing her for anyone to wake up.

The story had potential, and there were parts I liked, but the ending came out of nowhere. I kept waiting for more, some kind of resolution or emotional payoff, and instead it just ended.

I usually love Ivy Davis, but this series has been rough compared to her other work. Not terrible, just not great.

Beaten is the second story in the House of the Mafia series. It is well-written and suspenseful.

Alek is enemies with Katya's brother, Dimitri. He is trying to get revenge on Dimitri and decides to kidnap Katya. Katya is a reclusive person who mostly stays to herself in her bedroom. She has little contact with her family and no contact with the outside world. When Alek kidnaps her he has no idea what type of life she has been leading. As he begins to understand her he feels protective of her.

I loved how Alek wanted to get Katya to face her problems. I loved the chemistry between them and how protective Alek was of her. Another great story in this series and I look forward to more.

Katya has spent most of life in seclusion due to trauma. Alek kidnaps her to get back at her brother.

I was undecided about the lead couple. I felt there was something lacking between them. I didn’t feel that connection the characters claimed. At times, I felt she loved him due to the Stockholm Syndrome. Akek’s two surrogate daughters were utterly unlikable. They were awful and frankly, needed some discipline. The ending was just ok.

This one was a little bit lacking for me, I believe that the surrogate daughters ruined it a bit for me. I realize it was meant for us to understand that Alek had spoiled them their whole lives, but the lack of discipline was just head shaking since all the Bratva & Mafia men have this disciplined image that they prevail over all the women that are part of their lives. Also, not sure if Katya would even know if she was in love, since she has been stowed away all her life.

Beaten is book 2 in the House of the Mafia series by Ivy Davis. It is a continuation from the first book, Broken, and is the story of Dimitri's hidden sister Katya and her kidnapper Alek. I enjoyed this story more than the first, it was much more of a romance. Alek is much more likable than Dimitri. Even though Alek kidnapped Katya, I found myself rooting for them to develop a relationship. Looking forward to another book in this series.

Katya has had a strange and sheltered life with her caretaker brother and his wife. She has stayed hidden away in her windowless room because of trauma she experienced as a very young child. Alek Morozov has had an ongoing fight with her brother plots to steal Katya, not knowing her situation. What started out as a way to hurt her brother turns out to be a chance at the freedom in the "real" world which she never thought would be something she would ever experience. Great and addictive storyline.

This is the second book in the House of the Mafia series. Alek kidnaps Katya for revenge against her brother, Dimitri, but along the way something changes. I enjoyed watching Katya find herself and finally see what freedom could offer her. The betrayal, death, suspense, violence, and unexpected twists kept me hooked up until the end. Another fascinating read from Ivy Davis. Highly recommend. Can't wait to read more from the series.

This is how you do a mafia romance right here. Ivy Davis is the queen for this genre. I have read numerous books by this author. And every single time it’s a complete new story. I have never once felt like I’m reading a recycling or retelling. This author gets you invested. I care about the characters, even when I might shouldn’t. I always have to know what’s going to happen and how things end. When I started Beaten I didn’t put it down until I was finished. My sleep schedule suffered. But my romance addicted book soul was happy.

Beaten is book 2 in the House Of The Mafia series and is the dark, arranged marriage journey of Katya Ivanov and Alek. Katya is the sister of Dimitri Ivanov from book 1 Broken. Katya suffered great trauma at a very young age and suffers badly from anxiety. Alek is Dimitri's nemesis. These two are always going at it about something! Alek has a bold plan to get back at Dimitri and this makes their journey intense, dramatic, dangerous and intriguing. Beaten is another great read by this author!

This is Katya and Alek story. Katya has kept herself locked away since she witnessed her father kill her mother when she was eight. Her brother, Dimitri, has kept her safe. Now he is in a war with Alek and Alek decides to get Dimitri back for trying to kill him, he will kidnap his sister, Katya. This is the start of a roller coaster of a romance for Alek & Katya.

This compelling story drew me into Dimitri and Katya. He kidnaps Katya t get at her brother but in doing so gets more than he bargains because Katya has lived in a protective bubble. Having to experience a different lifestyle has her growing in ways unexpected and giving Dimitri a run for his money. The emotions are raw, and her transformation had me connecting with them.

Wow, what a wonderful story! This is the second book in the House of the Mafia series. And just like the first book, it's gripping from the very beginning. This is the story of Alex and Katya. Their journey begins after she is kidnapped by her brother's enemy, Alex. It includes action, danger, drama, suspense, lies, betrayal, romance, and plenty of steam.
