Wow, wow, wow. I couldn’t be more biased if I tried, but I really mean it when I say this book is a must read. My Uncle so eloquently puts his life on the page. While, of course, it details his life as a quadriplegic, and is an informative read for everyone, but most importantly I think the fellow SCI community. It also satiates curiosity, it also shares who he is as person— it’s really just sharing a life, his life, with all of you.
My sister and I also had the upmost privilege of writing the epilogue for this book. We share our experiences with Uncle Jim (to us that’s his God given name, and is used as such) and how he has greatly impacted our lives and continues to do so.
Again, this is one of THOSE books. You have to read it, you’ll be the better for it. My mother who emphatically never reads, finished it in one day. When I tell you that is saying something, I’m saying no best selling author has ever managed to pull that one off.
So, what are you waiting for?

Full disclaimer: this book was written by my uncle, who is a quadriplegic. He painstakingly typed it letter by letter using a stick because he wanted to share his experience with the world. This is an excellent resource for anyone wanting to better understand this disability, and I especially liked the section on wheelchair etiquette! If you know someone with a disability, this book is a must-read! It offers meaningful insight and practical guidance. It’s also a wonderful resource for anyone who is newly facing this disability and has questions.
