Ugo
Ugo’s great big donkey heart loves to dance.
Ugo has been trained from a young age to follow the trail to the market, carrying the farmer’s grain to sell. He knows it’s important to stay on the path. But when the music of the trees calls to him, he just can’t resist the urge to drop the grain and…
Shake! Spin! Stomp!
To tame Ugo’s wandering spirit, the farmer trains ShinShin the monkey to be his guide. But when an accident befalls Ugo on this well-worn path, the music fades away, and he must dig deep inside himself to find his true place in the world.
With lush paper-cut illustrations by Pura Belpré award-winner Abraham Matias, this modern-day homage to The Story of Ferdinand is a gentle celebration of self-compassion, community, and kindness―a reminder to pause and listen to the music all around.

The illustrations are amazing! I was so impressed. Not only are they cut paper, but the use of shadows was so creative. The story didn’t impress me as much, but it was still enjoyable.
