Sub-Zero: A Novel

Rate this book
The only thing colder than the Antarctic air is the icy chill of death.

Off the frigid coast of McMurdo Station, in waters untouched by man, a deep-sea discovery is made—something ancient, intelligent, and deadly.

Aboard a classified DARPA research vessel, scientists are harvesting a never-before-seen species of Antarctic octopus. Its sub-zero venom could revolutionize a painkiller that numbs without side effects. But nature was never meant to be weaponized.

When a brutal storm slams into the vessel, all hell breaks loose. The onboard lab is destroyed. Containment is breached. And in the aftermath, one of the team’s top scientists begins to change. His mind unravels. His body no longer fully human.

Now, stranded in the most isolated place on Earth, the crew must survive something far more terrifying than the cold.

International bestselling author Matt James' high-octane, suspense-driven novel SUB-ZERO is back—refreshed, refined, and sporting a stunning new cover. Sure, the genre may be a little "off-brand" for Matt, but fans of his work will still feel right at home. His trademark elements are all rich world-building, compelling characters, and relentless action. Just be warned—the thrills come with some serious chills.

A fun sci-fi thriller

subzero is an entertaining and fun sci-fi thriller set on a DARPA research ship in the Antarctic. A meteor introduces an exobioloical creature to the waters, one capable of taking over people and controlling them. The writing is good, plot, characters, narrative quality, everything is there to form a solid read. Overall, 4/5 stars, highly recommended to fans of sci-fi thrillers!
