From the USA Today bestselling author of Savage Lands comes a sweeping new fantasy of secrets, betrayal, and the quest to unite a fractured realm.
In Silvervale, Wren—the White Raven, foretold to be born with the power to bring unity to divided kingdoms—has lived a life of privilege, kept sheltered by her paranoid father, the king. But on the night of her betrothal, her world shatters when northern infiltrators murder her lady-in-waiting and drag her into captivity.
Her captor, Onyx of the Night Realm, has waited months to seize her. Cold, ruthless, and burning with vengeance, he expects to hate the spoiled White Raven. Instead, he finds her defiant, clever, and maddeningly impossible to break. Killing her would be easy. But she is vital to a much bigger plan.
That plan belongs to Gavric Helvig, the enigmatic king of Ravenshadow—collector of beautiful things, lover of violence, and willing to do anything to claim Wren’s power. Under the new moon, he prepares a ritual to bind her to him forever … until enemies strike, and the White Raven’s fate takes an even more perilous turn.
Stacey Marie Brown is a lover of hot fictional bad boys and sarcastic heroines who kick butt. She also enjoys books, travel, TV shows, hiking, writing, design, and archery. Stacey swears she is part gypsy, being lucky enough to live and travel all over the world.
Thank you Blackstone Publishing and Netgalley for the e-arc!
I’ve been a huge fan of Stacey Marie Brown since her Savage Lands series and she is the type of author that does not hold back when it comes to dark romances and doing things non traditionally. I had high hopes for the White Raven and Stacey delivered.
I just finished reading it and that ending is going to haunt me. Oh boy, did I not see that coming but in a way it makes sense. The hints were so small that unless you paid really close attention it would seem out of nowhere but to me it just clicked. The fact that I have to wait even longer now for the next book it’s going to haunt me. I haven’t felt this gutted about an ending since reading The Sea Spinner.
Let’s get into the characters: the fmc was defiant but not to the point where she was overbearing. Most of her actions I understood them and I liked the fact that she never stopped trying to escape. She also isn’t perfect and because of her naivety she will piss you off at times. The mmc, oh boy, he’s a morally black character and I ate. It. Up. Their tension, delicious. The yearning, passionate. The slow burn, is indeed a true slow burn.
The side characters are memorable and I could easily picture each character. No one got lost and everyone was so well written. This book to me was 6 stars. Please note though the mmc is not a sweetheart, he cares for me the fmc, but he makes choices that are dark.
A fast paced, easy to read dark romantasy with curses and a sheltered princess that’s the chosen one to heal the land and save her kingdom. Please read the TW!
If you’re looking for something that’s hate to….still hate or enemies to…still enemies at the end of book 1 then this is for you. It’s nearly a bully romance at some points lol they are possessive and hate it and lash out at each other the second the feelings start. We’re waiting for the collision and I’m sure when it happens it’ll be explosive.
Read this when you’re in the mood for… - Hate to love - One horse - Forced proximity - Chosen one - Morally grey - Cursed raven shifters
It ends in a cliffhanger that I’m side eyeing but still has me intrigued.
Would I recommend? I’m unsure…I’ll be continuing the series but need to read more of the story arc before I could fully recommend.
I couldn't wait to read Stacey Brown's latest book, White Raven. And it didn't disappoint at all. I loved this book and all the characters. Stacey writes like she is seeing a movie in her head. I could see the characters and action around them like I'm watching a film. One of the things I loved about this book is that she writes the characters so well, both main and secondary. The plot moves forward through some twists and turns leaving you wanting more. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but I cannot wait for the second book to come out to find out what happens to Wren and Onyx; and two of her "special" secondary side characters, Fluffy and Munch. In their case, who will eat who???? I found this to be a really good, exciting read.
I was approved for an e-arc. Overall, it was a bit of a tedious story. For someone who is a trained fighter, the FMC always seemed to need rescuing and was always in danger but in a stupid way that she got herself into. If you like bully/hate love, you will like this because they are so mean to each other. I would definitely categorize this as a darker romance. No on page rape which is good but other violations so read the trigger warnings. The MMC was fine but just mean. The best part about this whole story was the cliffhanger at the end, which was very intriguing so that alone might encourage me to read the rest of the series.
