At forty-one, Neris MacIntyre finally found her magic on Aileandra Isle. She honored her mother’s legacy, claimed her Sky power, and is still fighting to earn her place among the island’s ruling Council.
For the first time in her life, she feels certain she belongs.
Then a young woman crashes through the island’s ancient wards wearing a dragon scale.
Not just any dragon scale.
Ka-Hul’s.
He only ever gave one away—centuries ago.
Now Neris isn’t just the new Sky Ailean.
She’s mentoring a dragon heir who doesn’t believe in magic. Standing against a Council member hungry for control. And helping hold together wards that are beginning to fracture.
Because something beneath the loch is stirring.
And if the ancient seal fails, it’s not just Aileandra that won’t survive it.
Midlife was supposed to be about reinvention.
Instead, it’s demanding leadership in ways that challenge.
Midlife, Magic & Mystery is the second book in the Mythic Midlife series—a sweeping tale of mythical Scottish creatures, dragon lineage, fractured power, slow-burn tension, and a woman discovering that her greatest strength isn’t youth…
It’s her experience. Her insight. And her refusal to step aside.

For fans of Shannon Mayer, K.F. Breene, and Linzi Day.
This is the second book in the Mythic Midlife Series—a heartfelt, magical adventure full of ancient secrets, sisterhood, slow-burn romance, and the reminder that it’s never too late to rewrite your story.
A very good sequel to the first book on this series. I found it a little flatter and a bit less captivating than the previous book. That said, I greatly enjoyed the struggles of the new character and the adventures of the old ones. I'm so happy that there will be a third volume! Thank you so much for including me in the ARC group.
Such a good book and sequel. I can’t wait for the next one. I loved the evolution of the characters. So many unanswered questions that I’ll have to wait until December for!
What a fantastic follow-up to the first book in this series by Fyre Hart! (I got a copy as an ARC reader, but this is totally my own review)
In Midlife, Magic, and Mystery, we meet Neris again, learning her Sky magic on Aileandra Isle, Scotland, which sometimes is still a challenge. Not everyone on the Council of Six is happy with Neris living on the Isle, and one even goes so far as to try to get her to leave.
But then a young woman, Xenia, washes ashore. Where did she come from, and what is she doing there? Neris and the local medicine woman Sileas take care of Xenia, who is there for an important reason.
This book is full of magic, mystery, and heart. I couldn't put it down, especially when the story takes an unexpected turn. Neris is learning and taking the role of protector at the same time.
If you love the Fantasy genre, this is the book for you. You could read it as a stand-alone, but I would strongly suggest starting with book number one. I can’t wait for the third book in this series. Thanks, Fyre Hart, for this wonderful story.
A quote from the book that I loved: "Maybe courageous was something you could learn to weave yourself. If you only had the audacity to pick up a thread."
I struggled with a rating for this second book in the series. I like where this is going. The characters, representing elements, powers, that protect the island are unique. I'd give it three and a half stars, though, if I could. Because I felt it meandered for the majority of the book, without moving either the characters or the story along. If it's in order to spread the story in order to have more books in the series, I think that's a mistake. I was getting very bored until it finally picked up again.
Magic, dragons, all manor of magical creatures and I really enjoyed every twist and turn. In this second book of the series Neris is trying to learn how to control her magic. The island has decided to claim her but not everyone is happy about her being there. Also, another newcomer has showed up and Neris needs to help her find a home on the island. Danger is stirring and things really start to get interesting! I had a hard time putting this down and can’t wait for the next book!
Book 1 was our introduction to Neris and the island. Now Book 2 brings us deeper into the history and relationships and mystery of the magical world of Aileandra Isle. What's really going on? Who can you trust? Will Neris gain confidence and control over her magic before it's too late?
Midlife, Magic and Mystery gives us a solid foundation in the world before we go deeper into battle in the next book. Can't wait to read more!
“She wanted to laugh at how the words might have sounded like superstition just a year ago, but the island seemed to have a way of rearranging certainty, thread by thread, until even skepticism shimmered with possibility.” Engaging storylines, plot twists, intriguing characters including mythical creatures, this is a clever and well-told magical adventure.
