Cassidy Blake hasn’t been home for Christmas in years. As a Biomedical Engineer, Cassidy’s job doesn’t stop for the holidays, and adding in a now ex-boyfriend who’s never liked Christmas, there was no way she could get home to celebrate her favourite time of year. Now that she’s single and has a little time up her sleeve, she hatches the brilliant plan to surprise her family for the holidays. The week before, she checks into The Snowflake Inn, a cute and cosy Christmas themed B&B, in the next town over. It’s a place she has been desperate to experience since she was a child, and it’s everything she had hoped it would be and more. She’s just settling in, when a ghost from her past breezes in. World famous rockstar, the sexy and magnetic, Asher Mills. Her first love. Seventeen years ago at the age of twenty-two, Asher and Cassidy went their separate ways, amicably, but heartbroken. Now, a snowstorm has them quite literally snowed in, and Cassidy and Asher discover that those old feelings of theirs, aren’t really buried so deep after all.
This is a Christmas novella set in the snowed in B&B 'Snowflake Inn'. It provided all the Hallmark Christmas cosy winter vibes.
Cassidy needs some time off work and has decided to surprise her parents for Christmas, so chooses to stay just half an hour away from them at the Christmas themed Snowflake Inn til Christmas Eve for some R&R. At reception, she bumps into Asher Mills, lead singer of a rock band and ex boyfriend of Cassidy's. He is also there for some down time after getting stuck in the snowstorm and after 17 years, they are left wondering why they've left it so long to reunite.
This had all the cute, fluffy vibes but at times was a little too sickly sweet. I'm comparing it to the Pumpkin Spice Cafe. It wasn't anything groundbreaking, but cute. I just despise a pet nickname and 'Peaches' was not winning me over - but I acknowledge that's a me problem!
If you are after a cute Christmas novella (at only 160 pages it is short enough to breeze through in a sitting, but long enough to have some substance) I'd recommend popping this on your Christmas list and supporting this Indie author 🥰
I absolutely devoured this novella! As a lover of Christmas romance, this story ticked all the right boxes, and the trope of ex-lovers rekindling their romance had me hooked from start to finish.
Though fast-paced, Melissa Jean manages to pack an impressive amount of heart, depth, and emotion into a short space. The story never feels rushed with every moment feeling intentional, making it the perfect cozy read for the festive season.
The setting is beautifully imagined and instantly transportive; it’s the kind of place that makes you wish you could book a trip and step straight into the pages. It adds an extra layer of charm and escapism to an already delightful story.
I also loved the characters—particularly their names, their maturity, and their career paths. It was refreshing to read a romance featuring characters who are a little older than the standard fare, with real-life experience and confidence.
I especially appreciated the way the story champions a successful woman, giving her ambition and achievements the spotlight they deserve.
A charming, festive romance that delivers swoon, substance, and seasonal magic in equal measure.
10/10 vibes throughout the whole book. We have Cassidy planning to surprise her family for Christmas but gets snowed in the week before Christmas at a little cute Christmas themed B&B. Who ends up fortuitously checking in? Asher; Cassidy's first love from 17(!!!) years ago and now seriously famous rock star. I thought, oh 17 years apart is too outrageously long for a second chance romance, but Melissa did no wrong and I ate it up.
THE YEARNING! THE CD! CHECKING UP ON CASSIDY'S CAREER!
Spoilers up ahead
When I found out Cassidy was a biomedical engineer I loved the book even more because I was considering studying to become a biomedical engineer. Loved how down to earth Asher was as well.
Snowed in and forced to reconnect after 17 years apart absolutely yearning for each other, with a hot, 40yo rockstar and smart, life-saving FMC….okay, twist my arm, I’ll read it!
This sugary sweet Christmas-themed romance is easily consumed in one sitting, and will leave you with the warm and fuzzies. You’ll also be needing an ice cool drink after some of that spice 🌶️
What I loved: ❄️ Easy, quick read ❄️ The absolute yearning!! ❄️ Older-aged MMC’s ❄️ The CD 🫶
Final feelings after the last page: ❄️ This was super cute and would be an easy read during the Christmas season.
NB. I received a copy of The Snowflake Inn in return for reviewing the book. Thank you for the opportunity Melissa 🫶

Ice skating, mistletoe, a CD of love songs, crackling fireplaces, snowball fights, fresh baked cookies and a picnic in an attic library! Yearning, finding lost love, rekindling romance and just a smidge of spice!
Our MMC Asher is just the sweetest and most thoughtful book boyfriend a girl could want! 😍
If you're looking for a Christmas romance with all the cozy feels and a HEA then this is for you.
When the dedication really calls you out 😂 “This book is for the Hallmark movie watching, Christmas snack eating, tree-up-as-early-as-possible, festive playlist in the car, cosy romance book lovers out there.” Umm… hi, it’s me 👋
This was such a cute and cosy read with all the Hallmark feels — small town charm, long lost love, and that warm fuzzy ending. Do I usually prefer a little more spice? Absolutely. But sometimes you just need a soft, festive hug in book form. 💕
If you love second chance romances and Christmas magic, you’ll adore Asher & Cassidy’s story. 🎄✨
Couldn’t put this down. It is the sweetest Christmas romance and I want more. Cassidy and Asher two ex’s find themselves snowed inn at the same hotel not too far from their family homes. The roads are closed and by fate they get a second chance at love 17 years later. What I also loved is the age of the characters 39 and 41 - representing elder millennials yay. Any way I really loved this story, though it’s late as and I need to sleep especially when little miss is. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Melissa's writing has a way of transporting you to the magical place she has created and this book did not disappoint. Another great love story that was so easy to read.
