She was never meant to love him.

Rhianelle and Svenn are bound by magic and a love that could destroy them both. Every decision drags them closer to ruin. Ancient curses awaken, enemies long thought defeated return, and the kingdom trembles on the edge of war. Shadows of gods, monsters, and betrayal creep in from every side.

The magic that once saved them now threatens to tear them apart. The bond meant to protect them may be their undoing.

In a world where every choice carries a price, Rhianelle must decide what she is willing to sacrifice, whether it is her heart, her crown, or the vampire she cannot live without.

To save her kingdom or the one she loves, she may have to surrender everything.

"My forever is however long hers lasts. I’ll walk beside her through centuries, through winters and springs, through all the years she has left. But someday, when she grows weary of this world and is ready to lay down the weight of existence and step beyond the veil, I won’t let her go alone. When that day comes, I’ll remind her of the grimoire, the spell she found to make me human. I’ll ask her to grant me mortality then—not to escape this life, but to follow her into the next. For three thousand years, I walked in eternal night. Now at last, I see the light."

"You are the only light I have known in a thousand years. And you think I will let anyone else touch what is mine?” His hand moves to my throat, feeling my pulse race frantically beneath his fingers. “Do you know what the bond wants me to do right now?” His voice is seductive and dangerous. “It wants to mark you so thoroughly that every fae, every elf, every being in existence will know you belong to me.”

This book was so much better than the last two. Overall, I really liked this series. I enjoyed the journey, but it slowed down a little for book two and three. I read this for the romance, which was really good in my opinion. Svenn and Rhianelle's relationship was a fun story, it was spicy and dangerous at times, and cozy and sweet at other times. I enjoyed learning about both mc's and felt emotionally invested in both of them, I loved reading both of their pov's which was really nice, because I hate when I'm reading multiple pov's and I find myself wanting to go back to the other bc the current pov is boring LMAO.

I loved the world building. some of it feels more unique and special to the story. And some of it feels borrowed and unoriginal. I like how much depth and detail there is to this story and the world this is set in. A lot of characters and names resembles pretty popular stories and it kinda made me roll my eyes. There's some names of places and people that remind me of the video game Skyrim, the books/movies the Hobbit/Lord of the Rings, and even other popular books about elves/fae/dwarves/etc. However, I eat that shit up, so how mad can i be?

The plot feels very uneven and plot-holey, especially in the first two books. As you get to the third and fourth books, the story does start to come together more. I found myself confused and lots of questions unanswered many times throughout the story, but it does feel like it comes together moreso near the end, but that almost feels too late for too many things that were going on. I also feel like the romance was the main focus on the first 2-3 books, and the plot was just kinda left on the backburner while the mc's figured out their relationship. Don't get me wrong, i loved the romance, the different tropes thrown in, I loved the slowburn and all the different things Rhiannelle and Svenn go through together-i had a lot of fun with their story. But it feels as though the end is nearing and the author was like, oh yes, let me actually sum up some of these plot holes, too. Like the story is actually focusing on other things now, and I just wish there'd been a better balance between the romance and the political issues/action scenes etc. that the mc's dealt with. Better balanced and consistent through all the books. There was a time where I was like....pls just pick one issue and stick with it. Like.... the Fae King/the war, the Aonenians/her position as queen being questioned, the Rhunraefn problem, the gods of astefar, the uncle being on asterdust and him being her sisters real father, the fact that svenn is a vampire bonded to her and he wants to be human,
Etc etc etc... like pls just pick a plot. Mind you, a lot of these issues didn't get brought up and/or solved until this book. So imagine being 3 books in and wondering if any of those questions are going to be answered. Many people probably would've dnf'd but I decided I was gonna keep picking up the next book because the queen and her vampire consort have me in a chokehold.

The characters closest to our fmc could use a little more backstory. Something to get us hooked onto these people a little more. I didn't understand until this book, how important these people are to our fmc and I feel thats such a missed opportunity. I want to be emotionally invested in these people. I wish i would've know from the start just how close Rhiannelle is to these people. Its said many times what their roles are and that she has a soft spot for them, but yet, its missing something. Maybe if there had been something to show me how emotionally attached she was to these people. Im not sure. I find myself wanting more. So when these people step In to defend her against the Aoneons, it doesn't feel like a measley knight is defending her, i wanna be moved MORE, I want to cheer and sit up in bed as im reading it and get excited. The buildup of their relationships throughout the series could have prompted this, probably.

Svenn's character is badass and his powers are very cool. Im in love with him and love how obsessed he is with our girl Rhianelle. He would literally burn the whole world for her and I wouldnt have my mmc any other way. But there were some inconsistencies with his powers and that bothered me. I get his back and forth inner monolog since he's been forced to be the villain for centuries, so he thinks hes the bad guy. That gets better with this book, so we like to see that development for him. Rhianelle makes him want to be good and hes confused about that and I love it. It's natural that he's gonna go back and forth with himself on morals and actions he should/shouldn't take since he's kinda a morally grey vampire now Ha Ha. I just hate how it's shown that he can just open up a portal and transport places but yet theres a scene where he hears danger and can't escape fast enough out of the building. I was so confused. Or other times hes described as so strong and fast etc and then there's other moments where "before he can blink" or "before he even registers what's happening" something happens ...like huh? Isn't he supposed to be super fast super great hearing super strong super everything like -what.?
I also feel like with the war comes many obstacles and i understand that Svenn isn't able to do as much for her. I understand that even he has his limits and I get that he's not able to fix absolutely every problem they come across, however, I do feel as though he lost a little bit of his..... essence? Right around midway through the book, i almost wonder if Svenn was being written by a different person. Idk. He just felt a little off to me. I understand it's going to feel weird near the end because he actually cares for Rhianelle and he's afraid to lose her and he's not typically afraid of anything. He's dealing with a lot of emotions and new realizations and so I can see how he's gonna seem different struggling with that. At the end, that is. But midway through the book he just felt like a watered down version of himself almost. I started to feel like he was coming back to being himself towards the end. Id read a chapter and be like, okay, yes, this is definitely how I'd picture Svenn reacting to that.
Other than that, LOVED Svenn from the beginning, and especially in the beginning. When she's having dreams of him and finally meets him-that's what sucked me in! Their love story is what kept me going. And it's not like with most stories, where they get together and you get bored. There's something new every book, and he still keeps his mystery and somehow still keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting more. He's definitely book boyfriend material.

I am extremely pleased with where this story is going and am so excited to see how they deal with Rhianelle getting a new Fae mate. I have high hopes that Svenn can win Rhiannelle back! I feel it's going to be a spicy, angsty, crazy ride.

I fear this review sounds extremely negative, but these are all just the little things that bothered me, and they were just that-little nit-picks. It is because I love this story so much that I'm being so critical. I truly do enjoy this series, and i'm excited to read the last book! I do recommend if you're a fan of fantasy and romance and slowburn. ♡

The series gets better and better as it goes on. This book was far more entertaining. The ending are far more natural and less abrupt than in the first few. I enjoy the scary Vampire making friends, like his wife just more subtle. Its his found family. Can't wait to see Lillith...I haven't read the next book my guess is lilliths posessing Morrigan. We'll see. The grammars and spellings also improved a lot. I am enjoying this series.

Sometimes Fantasy books loose me, but every book I have read in this series I have devoured. Now I’m impatiently waiting for the next.
